Following Ashley Young’s late winner against Newcastle on Wednesday, the United bench leapt to their feet in celebration. Louis van Gaal turned to Ryan Giggs and sort of grabbed his face, in a bizarre interaction between the two. Giggs didn’t really know how to respond to it.

The following day, papers falsely claimed that Giggs did not celebrate the goal and suggested there was a problem with the relationship between the manager and assistant manager.

Van Gaal has denied these claims.

“We have a very bad relationship,” Van Gaal joked when asked about the rumours. “I’m very irritated because of this question because everyone can see we have a very good relationship and we work very hard together. I think it’s a way of suggesting things. So then I’m very irritated and then I take my measures against the media. I’m not pleased. I think 90% [of suggestions] are not happening.”
