During Manchester United’s 2-1 win over Swansea, Phil Jones was substituted at half-time, before Ashley Young was taken off with 10 minutes to play. Louis van Gaal has explained these two decisions were forced because of injuries, but reveals he took Ander Herrera off at the end of the game to waste time, after Swansea had spent all match taking their time with every freekick and throw-in, apart from when they were losing.

Jones is injured, more or less the same injury as before. Young has played a lot of matches in a row, so he was stiff and had to be changed. It was not voluntary, I changed them because I needed to change. With Herrera, it was because I wanted to waste time, as Swansea did all match.
