Louis van Gaal has sung the praises of the young players in the squad following United’s 3-1 over Barcelona. What we can presume is his first choice team were subbed off at 1-0, with an hour played. In the final half of hour, United scored a further two goals. The first one came when Andreas Pereira brought the ball forward, passed it to James Wilson, who played through Tyler Blackett, who pulled it back to Jesse Lingard. Then came some brilliant solo work from Adnan Januzaj for United’s last goal.
Yes I was very happy with the reaction of the youngsters because they were more aggressive and that I always want. They were defending more, going forwards and, okay, sometimes you make the wrong choices and you are always the loser, but that is also useful. But it was a team with the spirit. We created chances and we scored two goals with the youngsters so I am very happy.
