Wayne Rooney held his nerve to score an injury-time penalty in Manchester United’s 1-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday in the FA Cup.
The United captain doesn’t have a great record with penalties and has been taken off penalty duty by Louis van Gaal for missing. Juan Mata and Ander Herrera have leapfrogged Rooney in pecking order, but both of them had been subbed off the pitch by the time Memphis Depay was brought down.
“He’s my third man, I changed number one and number two, so he was lucky,” said Van Gaal with a smile.
