Angel di Maria endured a dreadful 45 minutes for Manchester United this afternoon in our 2-1 win over Sunderland. Bereft of confidence, the Argentinean couldn’t get much of anything right, apart from a couple of decent crosses in to the box.
Di Maria was replaced at half-time by Adnan Januzaj, who went to put in a much better shift. Louis van Gaal has talked about the decision to make the substitution.
I want to win. I have to observe and analyse. We were better in the second half so I cannot say it was the wrong decision. We have to give him [Di Maria] time to adapt and lift his confidence again. He’s a human being and makes mistakes like everyone else.
