Manchester United players’ player of the year is…

Michael Carrick has been voted as our player of the year by his team mates. He had been shortlisted for the PFA player of the year and RoM argued why he deserved to win it.

Carrick also came 2nd for the Sir Matt Busby player of the year award, as voted for by the fans.

“Obviously this means an awful lot,” he said. “I work with the lads every day and train every day. We’ve got an unbelievable team spirit and players from all over the world come and fit in and make a real effort to fit in. For them to give me the vote for this means an awful lot. It really is special for me.”

  1. LoneStarRed says:

Fully deserved!!!! As many have heard me say here …Makelele, Deco, Alonso…Carrick!

    There’s only one Micheal Carrick
    There’s only one Micheal Carrick

  2. King Eric says:

Massively deserved. Been absolute class. Old timers on here will know I’ve defended Carrick for years. As have lads like Costas.

  3. King Eric says:

He’s been schooled superbly all his career from Wallsend to West Ham and United. Fantastic player and great lad.

  4. Costas says:

That’s the one I was hoping he would win, King Eric. Fans tend to go with the attacking players since they get all the headlines. But Carrick’s team mates know how crucial he was to the team this season. Maybe even more than Robin.

  5. FletchTHEMAN says:

    Well done to Michael Carrick.

RvP gets goal of the season and Matt Busby Fans POTY.

    Great evening. Great lads.

Well done to Pearson and Januzaj as well! Cracking good.

    Future is bright!

Both Carrick and RvP said they want the double next year.

Carrick “We are all desperate to win [the FA Cup]”

That would do very nicely!

  6. LoneStarRed says:

As many have said about Scholesy , if Carrick was Spanish or foreign he would be respected so much more. But that is to our advantage.

  7. Toms says:

Tough choice between Carrick and RVP for MVP. Fitting that they each get acknowledged. I hope we keep on seeing this Carrick.

  8. NBI Red Onion says:

Well done and deserved, but in fairness this has been his best season, he obviously realised taking half a season to wake up was not going to cut it and his slow starts also put off fans, think it was the wes rumours what done it.

  9. NBI Red Onion says:

I would have given rvp MVP like most fans but Carrick and then Rio next.

  10. NBI Red Onion says:

has any defender ever won this award?

  11. Sushi says:

who the fuck is this fat ape cunt martin samuel?? i swear this fuck has to be the biggest ABU out there all he ever writes is shit pieces having a dig at Financial fair play and saying how united engineered their dominance…and now hes having another dig at Rio….fucking twats there is no winning with these twats

  12. Sushi says:

@NBI didn’t vidic win one of these awards a few years back???

  13. TheCANTONA says:

Just dont waste your time to read his articles. One of worst ABU cunts, second only to David “mr hypocrite” Conn of the guardian.

  14. TheCANTONA says:

On Carrick, fully deserved for this award, one of the un-song hero in united modern history.

  15. Sushi says:

Carrick really deserves it yes! Well done lad hopefully Moyes will find a player to complement your skills and take the load off. We really need to reconstruct that midfield into something resembling and effective operation.

@TheCantona I can’t fucking believe what passes as journalist these days fucking travesty. Thats what you get though when you have thousands of twats coming out of University with BA’s in English lit and no real sense of the world. Just spew bull shit and get awards for it apparently

  16. FletchTHEMAN says:

    NBI, Cheers mate.

3 defenders have won the Matt Busby trophy. Pallister Heinze and Vidic are all former winners. Vidic won in 2008-09.

    After that:
    2009–10 Wayne Rooney (his 2nd)
    2010–11 Javier Hernández
    2011–12 Antonio Valencia

Great night. Most years we have a game to prepare for. This year, with the title done and dusted, the lads seemed able to relax much more.

  17. obiDred says:

    Well done Michael Carrick

  18. King Eric says:

Sushi. That fat gorilla cunt Samuel is a West Ham fan who’s bitter about Rio.

  19. FletchTHEMAN says:

King Eric, Cheers mate. Can’t stand Samuel. ABU as they come. Doesn’t miss a chance to support whatever the FA needs supporting. Can’t wait for Rios memoirs. The FA and media role in “For footballing reasons” ought to be fun reading eh?!

On topic: Does anyone have a link to lists of all the former winners of the Players POTY and Young Players of years past. I have a rather incomplete list on both. There is an up todate WIKI page on the Matt Busby award, but cann’t find a decent list for our other end of season awards.
Don’t think we were doing some of them back in the day. That said, many of these awards seem to have started with Fergie’s arrival. The Jimmy Murphy award a case in point.

  20. Viva United says:

Quilty player fully deserved. its carrick you know hard to believe its not scholes.

  21. DiegoForlanDK says:

Well done Michael Carrick! What a season he’s had. A pleasure to watch on the pitch and seems like a very sympathetic fella off the pitch

  22. DiegoForlanDK says:

Btw do any of you guys reckon we’ll see Januzaj in action against wba? Wasn’t he given a number recently?

  23. FletchTHEMAN says:

Diego, That would be class and a good shout. Surely on the bench. I heard that Nick Powell just underwent surgery but can’t find a source to confirm that. Love to see a team of youngsters but Sir Alex will want to send out a squad that can win.

    Off topic
    Interesting interview with Ancelotti.
    – Rubbishes rumors that he was in line to replace Sir Alex
    – Reveals that Alex Ferguson will become the director of the Forum for coaches of elite European clubs for UEFA starting this Summer. Hope he also gets a work in to sack Cakir ;)

  24. DiegoForlanDK says:

I was about to say something about Fergie not really retiring or scaling down his scope of work by the looks of it. Member of the Direction with us, Director of Forum for Coaches of Elite European Clubs – but OK, they meet once a year :)

Most, if not all, in his position and in his age would probably call it a day with working with football – but not the old wiley Scot. What work ethic and passion for the game. Just stunning, really.

Well, about the game. Yeah he’ll probably hate losing his last game, and given our performances after having sealed the title, which have been pretty woeful, he’ll probably aim to finish with a bang and pitch a strong starting eleven. But, there could be places up for grabs on the bench with Rooney, and maybe Scholes?, out of contention. So potentially a Januzaj in there somewhere
