Manchester United stars set to shine at Euro 2012

The Manchester United squad have had an exhausting and emotionally-draining 2011-12 season, and for some a well-deserved break is in the offing after a rigorous campaign. However, with the big summer tournament just round the corner, a contingent of Sir Alex Ferguson’s men will have little rest before heading to Ukraine and Poland with their respective countries. The Betfair Euro 2012 odds could well be impacted by the performances and abilities of Red Devils personnel this summer – here’s who may well feature at the 2012 European Championships for United:

David de Gea – The United number one has been included in Vicente del Bosque’s squad for the international friendlies against Serbia and South Korea, and has a chance of being included in the final squad for Euro 2012. However, with Iker Casillas as captain, De Gea chances of gametime are very small.

Anders Lindegaard – The five-times capped stopper has been included in Denmark’s squad for the tournament, but similar to De Gea will need to oust the more experienced Thomas Sorensen to play.

Patrice Evra – The United full-back will be a key player for the French national side this summer, and will most likely face club team-mates in the opener against England. With Eric Abidal’s health issues, Evra will be up against Gael Clichy for a place in Laurent Blanc’s side.

Phil Jones – The former Blackburn man’s versatility could well be a factor for Roy Hodgson’s men this summer, and Jones will compete for a place in the centre and on the right flank of England’s defence.

Nani – Along with former United man Cristiano Ronaldo, Nani will be charged with helping Portugal out of the ‘Group of Death’ and be one of the Iberian nation’s most dangerous attackers.

Ashley Young – Young could well be a wild card for the Three Lions this summer, and is one of Roy Hodgson’s most incisive attackers. The former Aston Villa man could well start for England, on either flank

Wayne Rooney – England’s top forward Wayne Rooney is suspended for the first two games of the competition, but will look to return in the final group stage fixture against Ukraine to seal qualification.

Danny Welbeck – The home-grown forward has had a strong season at Old Trafford and was duly rewarded with a place in the England squad. With Rooney’s suspension Welbeck will hope to play, and may partner his club team-mate up front once both are available.

What about the Manchester United stars who are about to come Manchester United stars?

    ;)

Quick Get David Gill to get the camera out and go shopping

  2. United till I die says:

Wouldn’t bother me at all if they all went out in the group stages so our players can rest.

Irelands going to win it anyway!!!

  3. dela says:

Yawn. It is going to be a long, long summer. Can’t wait for real football to resume.

  4. Gorse Hill Red says:

Will be interesting to see if we buy any players on the back of a good performance; like Proborski!

  5. Redbilly says:

No offence lads . But an early team choker with no united injuries please . Back home in time for a long summer break.

Then cheer on the spaniards and Germans .

  6. Costas says:

A betting thread about the Euros?

Will De Gea make the Spanish squad? They already have Casillas, Valdez and Reina. Talk about stacked.

  7. mancdub says:

I’d say De Gea’s already better than Reina but I don’t think he’ll make the squad.

  8. Albert Ross says:

Thanks Admin! An interesting thread, with many of our stars on show.
A relief too, for those whose browsers become drowsy after 600 comments.

Good luck to all our players! As I browse the Euro fields, it is only you I will be rooting for.

  9. Evras_left_foot says:

Drogba just confirmed leaving Chelski….replacement for mickey owen?

    LOL

  10. mikekelly12 says:

    Costas
With his distribution from the back De Gea could get a game at CB!!

  11. mikekelly12 says:

    Evens left foot
We could do a lot worse than bringing Drogba in for a season or two. Pretty sure he’d add to the development of our other strikers too! Looks like he’s off to the far east though.

  12. mikekelly12 says:

Out of our internationals this summer who is going to be the shining light?? I’m going to go for Young!!

  13. Evras_left_foot says:

Can you imagine Rooney and Drogba starting?! The opposing CB’s would be sh***ng it!

  14. TheCANTONA says:

Hope our lads comeback without injured & have good summer vacations.
Read the previous thread I just knew today is Costas’ Birthday.
    HAPPY B’DAY Mate!
U share the same birthday with our Bestie. U Lucky U!

  15. mancdub says:

If by some miracle England have a decent tournament with players like Wellbeck and Jones giving a good account of themselves. It would do them the world of good.
People should wish all our players well. I know they are likely to become scapegoats when things go wrong but that’s all part of being a United player.
It never did Beckham any harm.
I hope all United players taking part have a successful tournament and return for pre season full of confidence.
I also think if England are to get anything from the first game Ashley Young will need to have his shooting boots on because I can’t see anyone else scoring.
I can’t see Danny getting a game against France. It will probably be the pikey with young supporting.
Admin never mentioned the best bet of the tournament. France to beat England 2.78 on betfair.

  16. Homer Simpson says:

Anyone into F1? Just checked the odds of a Brit on the podium at Monaco this weekend

    Jenson Button 20-1

    Lewis Hamilton 10-1

    John Terry 2-1

  17. Jay says:

I hope they all do well also, I think it is a little selfish to hope that they fail just because they play for Manchseter United, who doesn’t want to do well for their country. There is more of an emotional tie when a player represents their country. The better the players do for their country the more confident they will feel. Look at Chicharito as an example, he did well at the 2010 World Cup and came to United full of confidence knowing that he performed against very good teams at the tournament. I’m always happy when our players do well internationally.

  18. FletchTHEMAN says:

    Happy Birthday to Georgie Best!

  19. King Eric says:

Evras left foot. I would take Drogba on a free in a heartbeat mate.

  20. Vilhelm28 says:

Anyone know if Miguel Delaney is for real? Check him on twitter

  21. fenamufc says:

    any views on this one?
    thefootballproject.net/2012/05/22/dont-expect-a-summer-spending-spree-from-manchester-united/

  22. zelh says:

Vilhelm – Miguel Delaney is very reliable.

  23. zelh says:

    Drogba on a free?
    to much cons for me.

wages high as fuck. He’ll fuck around if he’s not playing regularly.

  24. LoneStarRed says:

As many have said, I hope every team with a United player gets kicked in the first round. :)

  25. CedarsDevil says:

With King Eric on this one, would love Drogba for a couple of seasons, just cannot see it happening though

  26. CedarsDevil says:

I will be supporting Costa Rica in this tournament, should they fail than its St Lucia

  27. Albert Ross says:

Drogba would be half the player at United. We clamp down on diving.
He has been a feared opponent for years, but my hate will be hard to quell should he join us.

Never happen, nor should it. A top player that we’re better off without.

  28. partylikeits1999 says:

Manchester City confirm they’ve released Owen Hargreaves. Gunther von Hagens is favourite to pick him up next…………….fuckin brilliant………….i guess gunther wont touch tevez……….no hope there….lol.

  29. Daniel says:

Danny could come back from this tournament a world star if he plays and steps up in Rooney’s absence and bags a few goals.

I hope Nani has a good summer with him missing the last World Cup with injury.

  30. CedarsDevil says:

I can totally understand how some may feel about Drogba and I respect that, personally though I really like him…Top bloke, especially off the pitch

  31. parryheid says:

Rather have Torres at 18/20 mill any day.

  32. LoneStarRed says:

What’s that Hargreaves released? Well that open shim up to be signed by another top club. Cedars perhaps he can get St. Lucian citizenship in time for the Euros.

  33. CedarsDevil says:

    LSR

That would be swell! A dream island in my books, I even get their monthly news letter!!

  34. redbilly says:

Cedars- totally agree re Drog. He does annoy me when he goes down easy as hes built like a barn door. imagine if SAF had signed him 8 years back. Hes reputed to be China bound on 200,000/week. Playing for the same club as Anelka. The forementioned having issues with management so we will see. maybe City will sign him and only play him against chelsea. Nothing would surprise me with them.

  35. redbilly says:

Owen -Steve Austin- Hargreves . Fergie fergie dont sign him up.

  36. samuel - united WE stand says:

Drogba is off to the middle east. where the oil are flowing, the sun is shining and riches are plentiful. Why would people even contemplate him joining united? has won everything and he’ll earn millions over there, more than most clubs could ever offer. Retirement earnings as they call it, set up for a long time of enjoyment.

  37. CedarsDevil says:

Thought the Drog is off to China? Besides, is oil a drink?

  38. CedarsDevil says:

    Redbilly

Hargo would love to be re built like Steve was!

  39. WillieRedNut says:

Torres is a busted flush. Drogba has been a top player, but we won’t get him. Fergie talked about bringing in younger players, hence, why the Berb is leaving.

  40. samuel - united WE stand says:

Cedars – so it isn’t the middle east then? fuck, that must be the first time they’ve been out-bid. Oh well, china or kilimanjaro, he’ll still earn millions and he won’t be lambasted for wanting to roll on the grass so much, that seems a crime in the premier league.

  41. redbilly says:

Cedars- in the austin tracksuit, with that hair he would look like a scouser, and he could run as fast as a scouser avoiding the police.

  42. Ugandan Red says:

    Drogba at United o_O…..

I imagine that Micheal Owen will replace his namesake at City. Knowing how those chaps think….then Hargreaves is signed by Chelsea. Now that is why I miss Barter trading :-P

  43. CedarsDevil says:

    Redbilly

Thanks, just pissed my self! Underwear bill on the way!!

  44. MG says:

    Cedars

Should they both fail I’ll be supporting the South Pacific :D

  45. CedarsDevil says:

    Sammy Sam Samuel

The Chinese have the cash mate as well as an excellent cuisine

  46. CedarsDevil says:

    MG

Bora Bora all the way, always were my second team of sorts

  47. MG says:

I personally thought Drogba would be enlisting himself in the National Ballet

  48. MG says:

    Cedars

I can live with that – Bora Bora our second team – Beat that Dubai!

  49. Costas says:

willie has pretty much nailed it on the head regarding why we wouldn’t get Drogba. It contradicts Berbatov’s marginalization and possible departure. After seeing his form this season (a true matchwinner!), even I am tempted to see him at the club. But it won’t happen. If he’s leaving Chelsea, he’s going somewhere where he will get paid a shitload of money. And that won’t be us.

    @TheCANTONA

Cheers mate! I share the same birthday as the great George Best, but I am 1/100 the player he was and 1/1000 the drinker he was. :)

  50. planetx6 says:

In other news: Hargreaves to make City exit

Midfielder Owen Hargreaves will leave Manchester City on the expiry of his contract this summer, the Premier League club have confirmed.

good job Hargo sticking a finger in united’s eye.

  51. Costas says:

    @Mikekelly

You know, with Spain’s shortage at CBs, he could be an option. He just needs to work on his aerial presence. ;)

  52. MG says:

Manchester United are proud to announce linking our great club with Bora Bora

SAF: No doubt about that, we will be sending our best supporters for a free holiday starting with Cedars and MG

David Gill: I will be accompanying the two lucky chosen ones and shall upload the photographs ASAP – sponsored by Sony – capturing great pictures as nature intended.

  53. CedarsDevil says:

    Costas

I pretty much see where you’re coming from but Willie cannot nail fuck. come on be serious….

  54. CedarsDevil says:

    MG

Ha ha, will we be using Asia airlines and sitting on Audi seats?

  55. dannysoya LOVES SIAN MASSEY says:

On the Eden Hazard issue. this man is asking for 200,000 pounds A WEEK and he also wants a 6 million euros fee for his agent. WTF? Please United forget him and go for Shinji Kagawa who is much cheaper and is not far off from Eden Hazard in talent. I f we lose Kagawa to flipping Arsenal i’ll be really angry.

  56. redbilly says:

Cedars- the scouse are always good for a laugh

  57. Vidic says:

    Happy Birthday : GEORGE BES7 !

  58. zelh says:

dannysoya – don’t think we will lose Kagawa to Arsenal. I think Fergie has more or less bound him to the club when they met.

  59. Fred says:

dannysoya – my theory is that he’s only asking that of City. Let’s be honest, players need a little extra “incentive” to sign for that club. So if he’s going to play for a shit club like them, they’re going to have to make it worth his while. That’s probably why City are baulking at his agent’s demands – because they know he’s not asking the same from other clubs. 8)

  60. MG says:

    Cedars

Absolutely Cedars – we will also be wearing Hublot watches eating Mister Potato crisps and drinking Casillero del Diablo wine.

We will also have to wear DHL t shirts shorts and sandals.

  61. Fred says:

zelh – I agree. Shinji-san will have given his word that he will sign, and everyone knows that a Japanese man’s word is as good as his bond. 8)

  62. Sandeep1878 says:

    Evening reds,

I just hope Jonesy will smack that Balotelli cunt if at all England face Italy..

Have high expectations on Danny Boy..

Go reds, play great football but be injury free please..

  63. CedarsDevil says:

    MG

Can we ditch the shorts? They sort of give me an itch in me privates…….Plus can we bring Jimmy James along? We need someone to laugh at, sorry I mean WITH

  64. nani4ever says:

I bet we let kagawa slip because of penny pinching, this was a slam dunk deal and a much needed one an we messing it up

  65. nani4ever says:

I bet we let kagawa slip because of penny pinching, this was a slam dunk deal and a much needed one an we messing it up

  66. Fred says:

How do you know we’re messing it up?

  67. CedarsDevil says:

Slip? Why??? Did we need him in the first place?

  68. Fred says:

Yes we need him, he’s fucking class.

  69. zelh says:

    I’d say we do.
We need a midfielder who can score goals.
Scholes can’t play week in week out. Get’s barely 90 minutes out of himself.

Cleverley is injury-prone, Anderson performs for 3 matches only to dip in form for the next 3 months.

  70. CedarsDevil says:

No we do NOT need him, what we need is character, someone to boss the team and urge them on….

  71. zelh says:

What we need is quality in midfield.
You can say what you want, but we have more quantity, than quality.

  72. nani4ever says:

    CedarsDevil@
No we don’t need an intelligent composed, great technique midfielder, scholes alone will do right

  73. Vilhelm28 says:

According to the dude I talked about earlier in this thread SAF is in for Kagawa, Baines, Hazard and the polish dude. United have put in bids for the first three. He also states that if Hazard slips SAF will go for Modrich.

Just stating what the guy is saying, not my words. Seems SAF is ready to take the crown back

  74. WillieRedNut says:

    Roy Keane? ;)

  75. Fred says:

Cedars – LOL let’s just sign John Terry or Scott Parker in that case.

  76. zelh says:

Vilhelm – He just said that we had a bit for Lewandowski rejected. Said we’d most likely sign a Baines, Kagawa and 2 others. Assuming another midfielder and a striker.

  77. WillieRedNut says:

Vilhelm28 – Were you talking to Fergie? The dude? That’s what the Berb calls him! :P

  78. Sandeep1878 says:

Heard bitters are releasing the pig?

how about we having a second shot at Hargo then? ;)

  79. WillieRedNut says:

Cedars – Someone to urge the players on? Jimmy Tarzan James! :D

  80. CedarsDevil says:

    Fred

Being serious mate, what we’ve lacked is not creativity but leadership……As much as I love Evra, he is NO leader and neither is Vidic….Since RedNev has gone we have not replaced him……

Like Willie says, boy could we do with a Keano right now

  81. CedarsDevil says:

    Willie

Jimmy will drive them mad mate!!

  82. zelh says:

We need quality and consistency. Both things we lacked in the last season in midfield. I’m not taking anything away from Carrick, but he needs a consistent quality player next to him.

Things both Cleverley and Anderson lack atm.

  83. Sandeep1878 says:

Sir Alex will take back the crown, with or without new signings..

Bring back the Fletcherinho, he will eat them alive..

    Get well soon homie..

  84. YS says:

    Jones for midfield
any one thinks he can/should be converted into a CM, IF
Fletcher doesnt return ; not in all matches ; not generally with Carrick is partners

    - wish he was not selected for Euros so we could work on him

  85. Albert Ross says:

Picture of Ji-Sung Park taken today. I think he will become the leader of South Korea one day.

He and Rio play tonight in the Asian Dream Cup charity match

  86. Vilhelm28 says:

Williered, no the dude being the journo miguel delaney

  87. nani4ever says:

    Fred@
We should have had some kind of fee agreed complete with personal terms. This should be a slam dunk deal buut one again we are making a mountain of things, the factors state that the club as to sell and the player wants United so win win right

  88. Sandeep1878 says:

    Evening Albertex,

    thanks for the link,

such a humble guy this Park…

The most popular and effective Asian footballer over the years!!.

  89. Fred says:

Cedars – I agree that we need plenty of character as well as technically gifted players. I’d love a hard bastard in central midfield as well, giving players like Rafael, Jones, Evra and anyone else who needs it a rocket up their arses when they misplace a pass or get caught out of position. I really think we miss that Keano/Neville type in the squad, letting our young players know the standards that are expected of them.

I think I said on here last season, my fear is that we are becoming a soft touch, or as I put it, a bunch of fannies like Arsenal. I think the fact that we blew an 8 point lead with 6 games to go suggests I was right.

  92. Fred says:

nani4ever – Kagawa is on international duty with Japan for the past week. They have a few games coming up in the next couple of weeks, so he’s busy with that. He’ll sign for us after he gets back from Japan. 8)

  93. CedarsDevil says:

    Fred

We were clear and we were also behind were we not? We lost the league, city did not win it. All that with no investment whatsoever. If we had a leader on the pitch we would not have drawn against Everton

  99. WillieRedNut says:

nani4ever – Clearly, you’ve no understanding of how transfers work? It’s not like going to the supermarket. The De gea one rumbled on for a long time, but we got it done in the end. Just chill mate…. ;)

  100. King Eric says:

nani4ever – How are we letting it slip? Are you privy to the negotiations or summat pal?

  101. FletchTHEMAN says:

Lets not bash on Cleaverly. Had a couple of serious knocks. Mostly from really bad tackles and so not his fault. Also Giggs and Scholes were both considered injury prone and at times almost considered wastes of space. Tom is a gem who will come good.

  102. ak47 says:

Clevs had 1 bad knock which was down to that bastard Kevin Davies, i’m glad his team got relegated the anti football cunt

    on a funnier note….

  103. King Eric says:

Was watching some old games the other day and FUCK ME do we miss Fletcher. We really do. Top drawer player. Ball winner, tenacious, good passer of the ball. Had the lot. A HUGE miss.

  104. Sandeep1878 says:

    Prasan,

    Evening mate,

yeah thats a good idea to bring the bugger on FB :)

But he wont, i know, hez got steel balls :P

  105. King Eric says:

FLETCH – well said mate. You beat me to it. Cleverley isn’t injury prone just been very unlucky. Well he may be injury prone , who knows but I feel its too early to label him that. What the fuck am I talking about? Fuck knows.

  106. CedarsDevil says:

    King Eric

You can bet your left nut we miss Fletch, fuck me how good was he?

  107. Sandeep1878 says:

I m sorry reds if i hurt you guys,

Tom C and injury prone? Just because of last season?

Rooney gets injured once or twice every season!!

but he is not injury prone..is he?

    this is utter bull shit..

    ##

    King Eric,

    indeed mate,

    we have missed Fletch massively..

just hope he will get well soon, football or not

  108. Mikekelly12 says:

    You been smoking fella?!

  109. Sandeep1878 says:

as i said in my earlier posts,

    Fletcherinho will eat them alive!!

  110. ak47 says:

Although we’ve missed Fletch, i wouldn’t say he’s a good passer. He keeps it simple, anything fancy is above and beyond him.

We’ve sorely missed his energy, along with Anderson, who needs to sort his weight problem out, i do hope he leaves in the summer mind you. He’s had ample opportunity and just can’t stay fit.

I’ve said it before on here, don’t hold your breath on Darren returning, it’s a nasty energy sapping illness.

  111. CedarsDevil says:

    King Eric smokes?

    FUCK!! Welcome aboard mate

  114. Balaji Sivaraman says:

Instead of bashing Cleverley, how about we bash the cunt who gave him that injury? Trust me, if it weren’t for that idiotic neanderthal named Kevin Davies, we would’ve had a fully fit Cleverley this season. It amazes me that that tackle went unpunished.

  115. CedarsDevil says:

So we had a clear run it was up to us convincing de gea to leave his home town, in the case of kagawa arsenal are interested (even thou they are in a worst possition than us) chelsea are interested an shitty are probably waiting to throw in a double what ever we bid offer so the longer this gets drawn out the less possible it becomes for us which is so fucking sad and unbelievable how far we have fallen :( sorry for the incomplete post, posting off a my blackberry

    Not really.

In the end Kagawa decides where he wants to go and I’m pretty sure that he’ll meet up with SAF again after his internationals to negotiate the deal.

    It’s a waiting game.
Some players want to go on holidays first or play their internationals.
And it seems to be the same with Kagawa.

  122. WillieRedNut says:

nani4ever – The point about De gea was transfers take time. That panned out over the whole summer. Kagawa met with Fergie. I’m assuming some kind of verbal agreement was agreed by both parties. Not sure how interested Arsenal are in him anyway? They’ve got their hands full trying to keep RVP. Arsenal are notoriously stubborn on paying money for players. Dortmund want 20 million Euros. If we want the lad, we’ll get him. 8)

  123. MrKirie says:

On Hargreaves. Now that he’s no longer a player there, he’ll probably be the new City team ambassador with Viera…. :)

  124. prasan_UTDfan4life says:

    @ Cedars

Thanks mate…always at your service! :D

Where the fuck has Mike gone? Ohh I get it…to sympathize with Hargreaves! A great example of how to LOVE a club full of cunts! :P

  125. Mikekelly12 says:

Eh up Sandeep. How is it?
Prasan – you may address me as the illustrated man!!
Fletcherino is Manchester United. Anderson is not. I think we’ve given the lad EVERY opportunity to prove himself. We forgave him for nearly killing himself and 2 passengers in a 2 seater car after a night on the piss during his recovery. He recently refused a breath test by all accounts and I’ve not heard much else since. Doesnt seem to be showing the effort and desire off the pitch to justify his inclusion on the pitch. I won’t lose any sleep if he goes, never really warmed to him to be fair.

  126. Sandeep1878 says:

breaking news, i found out that the delay in our signings is because that STR and ROM have an agreement with Gill, the more traffic to the site due to transfer gossip, more fund to sign the players :P

  127. prasan_UTDfan4life says:

    @ Mike

  136. Fred says:

Is it too soon to label “TC23″ a sicknote? I’m not so sure…

“His first appearance for the reserves came in a 0–0 away draw to Bolton Wanderers almost a year later, on 15 February 2007, by which time he had become a regular in the under-18 team. However, just over a month later, he suffered a long-term injury and was ruled out for seven months.”

“After two goals in 15 matches for Leicester, Cleverley’s loan spell came to a premature end after he suffered a season-ending shoulder injury against Colchester United. He then returned to Manchester United for treatment and underwent surgery on his shoulder on 2 April 2009.”

“Cleverley scored a further five goals in 20 appearances for Watford before a knee ligament injury in April 2010 ended his season prematurely.”

“Cleverley sustained a ligament damage in his foot after being tackled heavily by Bolton’s Kevin Davies in the 3rd minute of United’s next game, a 5–0 away victory at Bolton Wanderers”

“On 25 October 2011, Cleverley made his return from injury in the Carling Cup, a 3–0 win against Aldershot Town. He made another appearance 4 days later, away to Everton. Cleverley played in a more advanced midfield role, linking defence with attack and was arguably Manchester United’s best player. He left the field of play after 57 minutes due to an ankle injury”

  156. Fred says:

Albert Ross – every season since Tom has been a pro, he has suffered a major injury that caused him to miss several months of the season. That is not the case with most footballers at all.

  160. NBI Red Onion says:

I will miss Drogba. You need big names in the EPL. Torres is not in the same league.

Eden Hazard sound more like a ho everyday, liking the guy less and less – first United, then City, now Chelsea. Keep your mouth shut, licking the as of every club means no one will respect you. Actually, fuck off.

  165. Albert Ross says:

    Fred

I think the jury is still out considering the verdict on TC being injury-prone, or unfortunate.

  166. zelh says:

Imo TC is injury-prone. Has missed a lot of games at Wigan due to injuries.
That might change with getting older.

  167. Fred says:

    Let’s hope so, Zelh.

  168. zelh says:

Looks like Ole has pulled the plug for the Villa job.

  169. WillieRedNut says:

Ole turns down the Villa job. Good man!

  170. zelh says:

Would have loved to see him back where he belongs.

  171. Albert Ross says:

I was also thinking of mentioning Tom’s age, for he has only recently beefed up a bit.
I haven’t looked at his medical history closely, so I’m unsure of my ground.
It’s too soon to tell, but obviously we wouldn’t be talking about it were his history good.

  172. zelh says:

Bryan Doogan (Aston Villa PR executive): “Ole Gunnar Solskjær has decline the Aston Villa job because of family reasons.”

    It’s official.

  173. Costas says:

    @Mike

To clarify. She represents Greece but she’s from Cyprus. Doesn’t change the fact that she’s hot as hell. :)

  174. FletchTHEMAN says:

Always felt Ole was going to turn down the Villa job. But it is in his best interests to take a look a careful structured look at any opportunity. Every big club does some things well and Villa is big enough to learn some things from that only would be opened up in an interview of this type. They obviously like what they see in Ole and were willing to try and impress him.

But Ole said he was going to Molde while his kids were young. There is still much he can do there. He has gotten them into Europe and looks to be in a position to do that for many years from his seat at the top of their league. He should take this opportunity to learn and scout good players. He should not rush anything.

Best decision for Ole at the moment. However, his relationship with Molde will require some fixing now. Hope they iron out their problems and we get to meet up in next year’s Ch.League.

  184. iced earth says:

hazard agent “We are no longer in the negotiations stage,” Bico said. “We have reached agreement with all parties. There will be no higher bid.
Bico’s claim that an agreement has been reached with all parties differs from the private positions of the Manchester clubs, but the agent insists that Hazard is considering all three clubs on an equal basis. “Eden is in the reflections stage and a decision will be taken quickly,” Bico said. “Those who have come forward have a one-in-three chance (of success).”

  185. Fred says:

    And now for a musical interlude… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ivBmvOxAOGo

  186. Wakey says:

    RE: Hargreaves

While I doubt his claim at the start of season that he was ready for 40 games we didn’t really hear too much about him actually being injured while at City. I get the feeling perhaps that they signed him simply to get one over on us but never really intended to play him and certainly weren’t going to put their trust in him getting through anything but throw away games.

    RE: TC

Young players are prone to injuries, they will often still be physically growing into their body (Be it just physical growth like Welbeck had issues with or just bulking up to be ready for the Premier League like we have Seen Rafa struggle with), they don’t know the limits so will over extend themselves and even with advise can lack the mental maturity to look after themselves perfectly (Look at Giggs early on, took time for him to learn his limits, start to look after himself but once he did his Hamstring issues became a non issue)

I think alot of Toms issus this season was over eagerness to get back, certainly he seemed to rush back from the initial injury and unless you are fully fit you will always be prone to then picking up other injuries as the player tries to protect the original injury (It was Saha’s problem imho, was never confident he was fit and as such would protect the injury and puts strains on his body doing so that he shouldn’t be which made him prone to other injuries)

  187. WillieRedNut says:

We could do a lot worse than Baines. Fact is, we someone to cover Evra. As always with these players, I’ll go with bosses judgment. ;)

  188. Mrad_leb says:

baines is a great FB..he has a great left foot his crosses are class plus he take some very good free kicks..it’s nice to see a competition in the LB position next season if baines joins UNITED

  189. FletchTHEMAN says:

Costas. Saints preserve us. It’s been in the cards but here is the rub.

When you write the list….. Heinze, Evra, Baines

Seems there is only one name that is really and truly out of place…

    Just sayin

  190. Fred says:

    Heinz beans?

  191. Costas says:

    @willie

No doubt Evra needs cover. But if it was up to me, I’d keep Fabio or De Laet around as backup and spend that 12 mil on a CM. If the Mirror article is indeed true…

  192. Fred says:

I’d rather we signed Lorraine Baines tbh, but it’s always exciting to have a new player in the fold.

  193. Costas says:

For the record, my comment at 22:56 was a play with words. It obviously doesn’t pain me, lol.

    @Fletch

    Heinze. He’s a cunt, the other two aren’t. :D

  194. Fred says:

Tony Valencia’s reaction: “DO NOT WANT” http://i55.tinypic.com/1608nid.jpg

  195. zelh says:

Yeah we saw how well fabio worked as cover.
the only thing he covered was the couch in the physio room.

De Leat couldn’t even get in Norwich’s side.
    Besides that he’s gone.

  196. Costas says:

Fabio was fit from January and on. Sir Alex never trusted him anyway. I’ve critisized him for getting injured often but that’s not why Evra never lost his spot in the last 5 months.

It’s a luxury to have Evra and Baines in the team when we are still relying on Scholes at CM, is all I am saying.

  197. FletchTHEMAN says:

Costas. I’m not talkin’ the smell of their whiskers mate. I’m talking pedigree and football!
If you don’t agree…. well fair enough I suppose.

  198. Fred says:

Good riddance to bad rubbish. Welcome to United, Leighton Baines! 8)

  199. Fred says:

Fletch – be serious, pal. Baines is better than Heinze.

  200. dannysoya LOVES SIAN MASSEY says:

WOW i just seen that we are in for Baines. what happens with Paddy now? maybe he starts at rb while Baines takes his place at LB? Anyways i am very happy with this development.

  201. Costas says:

    @FLetch

Can’t say for sure mate. We’ve seen Baines at Everton but we don’t know what he’d look like at United. Personally i don’t know how I’d rank him among the other 2. Heinze and Evra were quite the players in their best seasons for us. I’ll say this much.

  204. samuel - united WE stand says:

Hargreaves sold united out, almost like someone meeting a new girl and talking badly of the one that stood by him all along, not realising the bitch he got with was using him to annoy his friend. Now he’s been dispatched with clubs definitely not wanting to take a gamble on him.

the cunt Lost all my respect!!.

As for baines, decent left back but i can’t see him taking evra’s place even though i think the french man has played below the standards he set for a while now. Probably another baseless rumour, nothing has been confirmed.

  205. JC says:

agree Fred, I think Baines is better than Heinze too and if not I’ll bet he’ll ketchup quick… ;)

  216. Marq says:

About Cleverley being injury prone, well guys, bad news is that it has some truth in it. I remember there was an article about it, and it wasn’t pretty reading..,

  217. Fred says:

Wow, that Michu sounds like a real bargain. Let’s get him signed up first, ask questions later. 8)

  218. Fred says:

The only thing I have against Michu is is hairstlye. He looks too much like Samaras for my liking.

  219. Costas says:

Sounds like a plan b in case the Kagawa deal doesn’t happen?

  223. Fred says:

Rio was a Liverpool fan? I’ve never heard that. I know he slagged United off to some United fans on holiday a couple of years before he joined us.

  224. WillieRedNut says:

Liverpool listed their most famous fans on their website. They claimed Rio was a fan! My sources tell me skullduggery is at work…. ;)

  231. Ancha says:

    Costas

I agree…with the current state of our squad Baines is a luxury.
We need a backup for Evra but Baines is good enough to play in the first team on regular basis and too costly for a backup. I don’t think he will agree to come here if he is going to be a backup player.

  232. Ancha says:

Real Madrid Legend Raul gone to AL SADD for his last huge pay check!

  233. Ancha says:

Ronaldo said: “Rio is the best centre-back in England and still one of the best in the world. I don’t understand why he is not in the national team.

“Maybe the coach has justifications and we have to respect those. But I have to be honest, I love Rio.

“He’s a great player, great man and he should be in the national team because he would help England do well… maybe to win the tournament,” Ronaldo told The Sun

  234. Corea says:

So Hazard’s choice will be known by next weekend ?
    Then after Euro then etc.
It’s so tough and exhausting i guess doing the business nowadays. At least they know what is happening exactly.

  235. Corea says:

    As for Baines welcome ANYTIME!
English player and a quality one and we need competition for Evra and he will provide the sort of competition. But who knows if he wants to fight for his place being 27 year old with Evra still having couple of years in him as a strong candidate for the starting place. I guess rotation is going to become reality for the LB spot as well.

  236. Ancha says:

    Corea

Lot of rotation in defense last season is one of the reasons that it turned out like this. I hope we stick to a stable back four for the next season. That means if Baines is IN then I guess Evra will be sold.

  237. Jeet says:

    Morning, United!

I see that we are getting ourselves a wee Baines clique with Fred as the leader? But of course we’ve got to have beans to go with the little pea!

I almost choked with disbelief when I saw that many on here want The Drog in a United shirt. Listen, I don’t care if he’s donated half his wealth to Africa (which he could have for all I know), and at 34 he’s still got the minerals (which he most definitely does), but as far as football is concerned he’s a cunt on the pitch and in the dressing room. Have you forgotten Ancelotti’s (last man with an iota of class seen in the Chav camp) comment on Drogba?

“‘Look at Torres and his crisis. If you decide you are going to invest in him, you have to sell Drogba….He tends to swallow up all his competitors. It is not because he is evil, he is just like that”

And you want a guy like that to “mentor” DannyW? Get a grip, man!

Besides, it would take the lustre off one of Jonny Evans’ best career moments till date ;)

  238. Jeet says:

Personally, I think Fergie will sign a novice fullback this season. Probably Clyne and nobody else. He’ll gamble with Evans as back-up for Evra (and touchwood, Evra maintains his amazing fitness record), and Smalling/Jonesy to do a job at RB as backup for Rafael. The idea is to get Fabio gametime, and get him back next season. 2 seasons from now Fabio is the first choice LB. Bringing in Baines or an experienced LB is very, very tempting, but may not be the best course of action in the long run. Anyway, I hope so cos I simply ADORE the twins.

  239. Jeet says:

@Willie; Thanks for the lovely Bestie pics…awesome, and sad to think what he left unachieved. But then for genius like Bestie, I guess it’s always better to burn out than to fade away…

  240. Marq says:

Please can we just get someone for central midfield before anything else?

Btw, Mourinho has just extended his contract with Real, tying him nicely to Sir Alex’s retirement plan. Looks like he really has eyes on the hot seat

  242. . says:

    Marq says:
Please can we just get someone for central midfield before anything else?

Hargo’s available i heard he’s quite good, just needs prem experience

  243. lordrt says:

still waiting for a first signing to be made, and believe me if we are after lads in europe, their prices will skyrocket after the euro games, so better try get them now than afterwards

  244. kanchelskis says:

So now apparently Hazard will make his big announcement after the Belgium friendly with England.

    In his defence:

    - At least he’s not rushing into a decision
    - At least he’s playing the media, which is funny (although playing the fans less so)
    - I can perfectly understand the delay to his decision, given Chelsea’s CL win. It was presumably initially a toss-up between City and United, with him thinking they were the only interested parties that could offer him CL football. Then Chelsea get 300 minutes of luck against Barca and Bayern and the picture changes.

Also, the fact that he’s having to even think about it … doesn’t that suggest he’s not just interested in the money? If it was only cash he was interested in, he’d have chosen City ages ago – not even Chelsea can match their wages.

The worry is if he IS choosing on footballing reasons, and still finds City a more attractive prospect…

  245. CedarsDevil says:

    Morning all

Is there a player called Dick Van Dickinson? What a signing he would be! Would have his name on the back of my shirt for sure

  246. MG says:

Manchester United have announced the signing of Lipton Ice tea

SAF: Lipton Ice tea will give us much refreshment in the middle of the park no doubt about that.

David Gill: Sony Cameras – where pictures are made for memories that quench the thirst.

    Morning United ;)

  247. berbatov9 says:

has the look of our past King 7…from the country of our ex nobody that now play for Virus… young and has bag of potential… worth a look maybe for 4th choice striker…and when he ready give him the no 7 or maybe 9…

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EvkGjxAuBro&feature=related

  248. CedarsDevil says:

Better still, how about Dick Van Cuntingson? Just think of the shirt sales!

    Morning MG

Lipton’s bound to be a success, him and Lil Pea, what a combo

  249. Atin says:

Cedars – That could be RvC’s new name if he moves to City? His dad better ensure that doesn’t happen :P

    :D

  250. MG says:

    Breaking News:

    Uncle Woy interview

So Uncle Woy how do you think it’s going to go down this summer?

Well, it’s all about variables and in our case we have a 1 in 16 chance and that’s a good return.

I see, well Uncle Woy what about leaving Rio?

Well I had a conversation with the famous photographer David Gill and we agreed on one thing: Rio isn’t as good as JT when it comes to photo shoots, as John proved on Saturday in the aftermath of the CL final. That was a world class performance you know? And that’s the commitment that I want in the team.

Excellent answer Uncle Woy, how do you see the relegation of Wolves being someone from Wolves?

Well Wolves are just hopeless. I mean at West Brom I point out to you that I got the England job and really didn’t set the world alight, and Roberto and Eddie they were sacked and have just won Chelsea the FA cup and the CL! So you know looking at it that way I’m going to win the Euros all because of WBA. And Wolves should take note, because they are in a dire situation. If they had kept up with Mick they would have still been in the premiership and maybe Mick might have got an international job – like the manager of Tahiti or something!

Right Uncle Woy, well thanks Uncle Woy it was a pleasure.

Well the pleasure is all mine you know, and say my hellos to Sir Alex.

    Bye Uncle Woy!

    Bye MG!

  251. MG says:

    Morning Cedars!

I agree – our team looks so strong that I just cannot see what Hazard Kagawa etc will add to the team.

    :D

  252. CedarsDevil says:

    Atin

I will disown him if he makes that move God forbid!

    MG

Nice one mate, but I always thought Wolves were your first love, no?

  253. MG says:

    God forbid Cedars

    United first

    Then Bora Bora ;)

  254. Ancha says:

Even if Roy selects Ferdinand and hands over the captaincy to him, if England wins the final Terry will be kitted up with the armband(although he is not in the squad) and he will lift the trophy while adjusting his Captains armband.

  255. MG says:

    Cedars

Count me in – just for fun I was adding up how much it would cost for a holiday

Just the airfare would be near 3 thousand return per person

    Ouch

The Hotels plus food would cost a lot more.

    MG must work harder!

    :D

    One day Cedars, one day!

Imagine it – The ROM does French Polynesia ;)

  256. Marq says:

About Hazard choosing the best football side ahead of money, that would all but rule out Chelsea, and the reason? Because no team has defended their CL trophy before, therefore, going to Chelsea means unlikely to win the CL, haha

  257. CedarsDevil says:

    MG

Its very expensive indeed, checked my self many times…..Getting there is the problem otherwise its quite affordable…….

We could settle for a Greek Island in the meantime? Been to Santorini my self and its gorgeous, besides we could meet up with a certain Kebab genius!!

  258. Ancha says:

    Keano on GNev job@England

“It’s important you are yourself,” Keane told The Guardian. “Listen, Gary can talk but don’t think for one minute he was as influential in the dressing room as people might think he was.

“Gary would say his piece but he wasn’t running the show. Far from it”.

  259. Atin says:

MG – afternoon to you my friend! Got any interaction between Mancini and Gill? :D Let’s just go the whole hog and get Cyril on here and have his agents on this too!

Cedars – When is RvP gonna sign for his dad’s club? That would be a good day! :)

  260. Mikekelly12 says:

    Morning brothel dwellers
Everton have had no contact at all as yet from Man Utd about Leighton Baines – not to say they won’t but that is the current position. From a respected twitter source. Keep it real reds.

  261. AntiScouser says:

All of you suggesting Leighton Baines would be a good addition to the squad have completely lost it. English, late 20s, never won anything, clumsy and inept… sounds right. Why don’t we just buy Heskey and Downing and get it over with?

  262. CedarsDevil says:

Keane at it again……..I just grow ‘fonder and fonder’ of him every day……..

Nice way to support an ex team mate Keano

  263. kanchelskis says:

    @AntiScouser

    Behave.

    - When did ‘English’ become a byword for incompenent? Spose Bobby Charlton was a crock of shite was he?

    - “Late 20s” is pushing it. He’s 27.

    - “Never won anything.” Yeh, cos he – from his left-back position – is single-handedly responsible for trying to deliver trophies to one of the most cash-strapped clubs in the league, isn’t he?

    - “Clumsy and inept.” You’re either guessing or making stuff up. Behind Ashley Cole, he’s the second best LB in the league.

But then I guess you thought broadly the same things about Young, so I don’t know why I’m getting too exercised about your opinion. Probably a good indication that Baines would be a decent signing.

  264. MG says:

    Cedars

;) I agree – It would be good to meet up with my fellow Professor of Kebabology

    Atin

    Mancini’s contract was officially terminated.

Sorry mate – but I’ll keep it going got Uncle Woy on the books now ;)

    Morning Mike – :D

  265. Atin says:

    MG

huh? whaa? when?? You actually made me go to the shite website! Not cool!

Uncle Woy – flavour of the summer? alongwith Red Runner (GNev)? ;)

  266. AntiScouser says:

    @kanchelskis

    - When pointing out he was English, I did not mean to say English players incompetent. Rather, I meant to say they were overrated. Aren’t they? Last two major competitons? Ah yes, failed to qualify for Euro 2008 (LOL), WC 2010: failed to beat USA and Algeria, Germany 4:1 England. Sorry, my mistake, them lot are world class. JT all the way.

    - Late twenties = over 25. 27 (he’ll be 28 in December) is over 25, isn’t it? I can’t believe you’re willing to argue over this. Pathetic.

-never won anything = fact. As for “single-handed responsibilty” well that’s a textbook example of a straw man argument, my friend. I’ve never actually said that.

-Best LB after A.Cole? You’re joking, right? Wait, so Evra < Clichy < Baines. LOL. Come on, you can do better than that. LOL

    Joke.

  267. MG says:

    Atin

Watch the adventures of Uncle Woy unfold

Also this summer we do have David Gill SAF and the Manchester United transfer threads.

Sadly Harry is off for the moment as well

But hey I’ll always find something

    ;)

  268. TC says:

Heskey’s been released, it’s official!! Sign him up fergie!!

  269. Albert Ross says:

Keano is correct in what he said. His honest views are fair, valid and not disrespectful.

“Gary will not be calling the shots, he will be learning his trade and being a link between the manager and the players, and I think he will be good at that.”

“There’s a lot of thumbs-up, everyone says it is a good appointment. Let’s wait and see. We’ve got to give him a chance. He’s not done any coaching before. He has done his coaching qualifications but sitting in a studio talking about teams is very different.

“Gary can talk but don’t think for one minute he was as influential in the dressing room as people might think he was. Gary would say his piece but he wasn’t trying to run the show. Far from it. What he has got is he’ll be working under Roy Hodgson. It is not as if he will be calling the shots. He can learn his trade. I’m pretty sure if they have a decent tournament, or a decent couple of years, Roy Hodgson and his staff will get praise.

“If they don’t, the manager will get criticism and people will start criticising Gary. Gary’s a decent guy and he’s played at a decent level, but that doesn’t guarantee you success. You have to look at these opportunities when they come. You can’t be too clever when you are outside of football and not involved in a team, and if an opportunity comes up.

“He is going to be working with top players and a top manager so there is no surprise Gary jumped straight into it. There is only one way to find out if you can do it or not – let’s get into it. It’s no good just talking about it. It’s not a week-to-week job. He will still have a bit of time off and will be learning from a top manager.”

“I’m surprised he has kept his role with doing TV,” he added. “That can be difficult. You can get your way around criticising players by saying: ‘I’d expect the player to do better.’ He probably won’t be as critical as me and speak in the terms I do. I know Gareth [Southgate] does it, but he’s not in the dressing room, he’s not on the training pitch, he’s not working with the players.”

  270. kanchelskis says:

    @AntiScouser

    1. Then you should’ve said so. You just said he was English, as an oblique term of denigration. Didn’t say anything about being overrated. But then if you were going to carry on and detail exactly HOW he was overrated, it seems irrelevant to mention it in the first place. And then in your second post you’ve gone from saying they’re overrated, to pointing out that they’re (all apparently – including WR?) objectively poor. Sort your arguments out.

    2. Yawn – splitting hairs. Early mid-twenties. Happy now?

    3. You get my point entirely. You are judging his achievements trophy-wise, with no consideration for the squads he’s been playing with at Wigan or Everton. I could equally point out that Ryan Bertrand has a CL winner’s medal. Should we sign him instead?

    4. On Evra’s current form (you really think he’s going to arrest his decline?), Baines is miles better than him. And Clichy isn’t even a guaranteed starter for City.

  271. kanchelskis says:

    early late twenties*

  272. Redbilly says:

Cedars- would you be annoyed if RVP signed for city?. :-)

  273. CedarsDevil says:

Keane should think before he speaks………..Oh wait, he needs a brain to do that!!

  274. MG says:

    Heskey is on!

Where is Costas – we have some major transfer dealing to do!

  275. Jeet says:

@kanchelskis: Probably semtimental of me, but I do hope and believe, Evra will come back with all guns blazing. I don’t mind Baines, not one bit, but personally speaking I abhor anything that will impede the twins’ progress. Actually, for the life of me I can’t figure our why Fabio is being loaned out. More than able deputy for Captain Evra if you ask me.

  276. Redbilly says:

Cedars- The thought of kettle neck hugging RVP after he scores in a derby match would be unbearable.

  277. Jeet says:

At this rate i’m going to start hating Keano simply for starting RoM fights… :)

  278. Redbilly says:

    Heskey+ red shirt=. Season 2013. Sorted.

  279. kanchelskis says:

Players who’d “won nothing” before signing for United:

    Cristiano Ronaldo
    Wayne Rooney
    Rio Ferdinand
    Roy Keane
    Bryan Robson
    Denis Law

I could go on and on, but let’s just satisfy ourselves by saying thank fuck AnitScouser doesn’t influence transfer policy at Utd.

  280. CedarsDevil says:

    Redbilly

Enough already…….Making me feel all nausea in me stomach

  281. Albert Ross says:

Jeet – perhaps Fabio is being loaned out because Moyes has agreed to sell us Baines.
It could even be connected to Gibbo’s move.

Either way. the 2 managers surely trust each other.

  282. Sandeep1878 says:

    Afternoon reds around the world,

    Heskey released?!!

Now i know why we are hell bent on letting Berba go ;)

    ###

Some good news, heard Fletch is gonna resume training?

    that would be awefucksome news..

  283. kanchelskis says:

    @Jeet

If Evra were younger, I’d share your confidence that he’ll get back to his best. At 31, I’m not so sure.

Agree that the Fabio loan is somewhat perplexing, as has Fergie’s reluctance to play him this season, in spite of Evra’s form.

  284. Albert Ross says:

Jeet – many a true word said in jest.

Those who denigrate our Legends loudly and publicly do effect the views of other fans.

It is particularly unfortunate that despite this interview showing Roy’s support of Gary Neville in his first attempt at management, his words are twisted to serve some selfish aim.

  285. Sandeep1878 says:

    Cedars,

You have plenty of fan following from around the world..

    you lucky bugger ;)

and even our old friend smarty aka Smart Alex has many followers..

    wish he was here,

    anyway,

    afternoon Albertex Rossi ;)

  286. CedarsDevil says:

    kanchelskis

Robson was a fluke signing………No body to say the least

  287. Redbilly says:

Sandeep – hello mate. Yes it’s good to hear fletch is fit and healthy enough to resume training, though to the nature if the condition I suspect it’s to see how his body and more importantly his heath are affected. Let’s hope it’s positive .

  288. Albert Ross says:

Jeet – many a true word said in jest.

Those who denigrate our Legends loudly and publicly do effect the views of other fans.
    Deliberately or otherwise.

It is particularly unfortunate that despite this interview showing Roy’s support of Gary Neville in his first attempt at management, his words are twisted to serve some selfish aim.

  289. CedarsDevil says:

    Sandy

    I do? Where?

  290. Albert Ross says:

… double-post … oops! Twice as nice, perhaps.

  291. CedarsDevil says:

I bet Keane has no friends, too mad to keep any

  292. Albert Ross says:

    Afternoon Sandeex!

  293. Sandeep1878 says:

    Kanchelskis, Jeet

Evra needs good amount of rest folks, physically but more importantly..

This race storm, WC fiasco, then learning his brother’s death before he pulled on the shirt in that massacre 1-6 defeat, coming so close but so far with this title,

adding to it the non stop football he has been playing for 3 or 4 years now!!

    The lad needs real rest,

Having said all this, Sir Alex has been ruthless with players when their time is up at United, but i reckon Evra will stay until the young lads gain experience..

We cant afford to lose the experience, esp in defense after the departure of JOS and Brown..for sometime at least..

and oh boy, Vidic the monster will be back, thats a big sigh..

  294. AntiScouser says:

    1. I would say that not qualifying (2008) and an embarrassing second phase exit (2010) are objectively poor records for a footballing nation of such high aspirations. But you can also call them overrated. Since I couldn’t care less about England, either way is fine by me, as long as you don’t hype them up.

    2. No. If 28 (in December) is not late twenties, I don’t know what is. Mid twenties = 24-26, Late twenties > 26.

    3. I don’t know about signing Bertrand, but he is a better prospect than Baines, surely. Baines is a mediocre, underambitious, mid-table team player with no skill. While not being entirely responsible for his teams’ failings, having a player like Baines in the team, didn’t do Everton or Wigan any good.

    4. Baines better than Evra? Seriously? Sure enough, Evra’s not what he was, but he can better Baines any day of the week. We needn’t discuss anything after this display of ignorance. Clichy has just won his first PL title. Fabio, Kolarov, Gibbs, Bosigwa, hell, even Assou-Ekotto are all better prospects than Baines.

Once you acquire a mid-table team mentality, you become a mid-table team. Can’t wait to see a team featuring Jones (at RB), Baines, Park and Young. Dreamy.

  295. PeteyRedRed says:

Soooooo. Heskey or Hazard? Both very similar players so it will be a tough call for Fergie. Let’s look at the facts…
    1- Both play football.
    2- Both like football.
    3- Both are world class.
4- Both are flooded with offers of top-flight football.
5- Heskey is black, Hazard wears black socks. Coincidence? I think not.
6- Both can score or have scored goals.
    7- I’m starting to struggle now…
8- Both want to play football?
9- Kompany has a humongous head.
10- I made it to ten.

  296. kanchelskis says:

    @Sandeep1878

Vidic SHOULD be back. As I understand, he’s not taking part in pre-season. We shouldn’t expect too much of him at the start of the season. 9/10 months is an awful long time to be out.

  297. Sandeep1878 says:

Can anyone give me a run down on Mombasa beach resort?

  298. Sandeep1878 says:

    Redbilly,

    afternoon mate,

yeah lets hope this testing come training brings positive news..

    Kanchelskis,

agreed pal, can’t expect much, but certainly a force when he is in the dressing room..

    Cedars,

You have them fans in the world which you hate the most ;)

    Albertex,

    Good day sir,

  299. AntiScouser says:

    @kanchelskis

How old were they when they were bought?

    Cristiano Ronaldo (18)
    Wayne Rooney (18)
    Rio Ferdinand (23)
    Roy Keane (22)
    Bryan Robson (24)
    Denis Law (22)

    Use your B(r)aines.

  300. Sandeep1878 says:

If any Bulgarian league followers here,

The Bulgarian League is set for a thrilling conclusion, tonight. The final game of the season sees 2nd placed Ludogorets Razgrad host leaders CSKA Sofia, attempting to overhaul a 2-point deficit and secure a maiden league title.

  301. kanchelskis says:

    1. You’ve moved this point away from Baines entirely, so let’s drop it.

    2. We won’t be signing him in December, will we. He’s currently 27. By your definition that’s late 20s. By my definition it’s mid-20s. Whatever, he’s not old, not past his prime. There’s 4/5 years of good service in him.

    3. Again, you’ve moved this point from your initial argument, which was that you saw it fit to judge him on his trophy haul. In an attempt to re-address this point, I refer you to my post at 11:00. Should we not have signed any of those players? Apparently one was at Everton, you know.

    4. You accuse me of a “display of ignorance” while also stating that Clichy’s just won his first PL title. Top stuff, fella. Keep up the good work.

  302. AntiScouser says:

If I had written an idiotic statement like @kanchelskis (Baines is better than Evra, even better: A.Cole > Baines > everybody else) I’d be buried under negative “what kind of a fan are you” responses. Yet when he does it, others don’t seem to mind. Interesting.

  303. CedarsDevil says:

    Sandy

Curious now, which world is it?

    Antiscouser

    Your mathematical skills are admirable

  304. kanchelskis says:

    @AntiScouser

“Can’t wait to see a team featuring Jones (at RB), Baines, Park and Young. Dreamy.”

    - Yeh, can’t believe Jones isn’t a world-beating RB at the age of 20. Poor show. Besides which, I believe he’s third choice in that position, so not sure what you’re on about.

    - Park. Again, he’s obviously a massive part of our plans for the coming season, isn’t he? It’s not like we have 3 far, far superior wingers, is it?

    - Young. Don’t make me fish around for the stats again. Not after you basically conceded that he’s a lot better than you were giving him ‘credit’ for during his mini-slump.

  305. AntiScouser says:

    @kanchelskis

“Clichy’s just won his first PL title”

    LOL. He didn’t?!

  306. MG says:

    Sandeep

    Yes mate.

Christopher Nolan took Di Caprio there whilst in the middle of an inception

  307. kanchelskis says:

    @AntiScouser

Maybe it’s cos other people don’t think it’s idiotic? Just a thought.

  308. kanchelskis says:

    AntiScouser says:

“Clichy’s just won his first PL title”

    LOL. He didn’t?!

  309. Sandeep1878 says:

    Cedars,

    the social networking world :)

Facebook or fuckbook as you call it ;)

  310. Albert Ross says:

AntiScouser and kanchelskis – If I may interject.

Leaving semantics aside, AntiScouser’s 10:08 is intended to highlight Baines unsuitability.
    He lists the negatives:
    - English
    - Too old
    - never won anything
    - clumsy and inept

All 4 points are wrong, or cannot be listed as a negative.

    - English is good. We want as many of the top English players as possible.
    - Too old is nonsense. He’s 27, 3 years while Fabio grows into the role, then sold as a winner.
    - never won? City, Chelsea, Arsenal, LFC, Portsmouth, Birmingham have won. A bit limiting.
    - clumsy and inept – ridiculous. He is one of a few decent left-footed players in the league.

  311. CedarsDevil says:

    kanchelskis

Thickness is a tough nut to crack

  312. Sandeep1878 says:

    MG,

you bugger, i dont need Hollywood run down fella, keep it real,

keep it buzzing as the Brigadier19 says :P

  313. kanchelskis says:

    @CedarsDevil

Still nothing … either he’s still thinking (or an approximation thereof) or he’s noticed and is too embarrassed to say owt.

  314. CedarsDevil says:

    kanchelskis

    Thickness cannot think………..Too daft

  315. Jeet says:

Guys, is this really worth fighting over? Peace and love brothers…all’s Red, Ja says be happy cos everythings, gonna be all right…hail Rasta

  316. Shebangsthedrums says:

Hiya Reds, anyone else watching the Japan friendly? Kagawa looks decent so far.

  317. kanchelskis says:

And he’s gone. Bottled it. Tara, AntiScouser.

  318. mancdub says:

    AntiScouser
On the last 2 years form Baines is a better Left back than Evra.
Also your argument that all English players are over rated is not only bullshit it’s racsist.

  319. Costas says:

I think Clichy was part of the invincibles team in 2004? He got a medal that year. Just wanted to point that out.

    Oh and SIGN HESKEY NOW!

  320. CedarsDevil says:

    Jeet

We are men therefore we fight no? Just felt like I am in an X Men movie, or wait could be Brave Heart…

Scratch that, Pay Back, damn did he cause some damage

  321. kanchelskis says:

    @Costas

SSSHHHHH! We were letting AS figure it out for himself! You’ve gone and given it away now!

  322. CedarsDevil says:

    mancdub

He’s no racist mate, just daft

  323. MG says:

    Sandeep

In the Zone Sandeep In the Zone

    ;)

  324. Costas says:

    @kanchelskis

Ah damn. Sorry mate. Going by his post, I thought he already knew it.

  325. samuel - united WE stand says:

Ok let’s calm down. Baines is archetypal over-hyped english player. The english media love to do that and fans fall for it. Baines is decent, he’d do a job but i wouldn’t call him roberto carlos or evra (when he was immense). He’s a steady possibly reliable player and is potent going forward but against some top wingers like robben or the lesser heralded antonio valencia, he’s been shown up. Good player and would be a nice addition to the squad until fabio hopefully improves and return stronger.

At 11:27 you wonder why kanchelskis wasn’t buried under negatives for the statement:
“Baines is better than Evra, even better: A.Cole > Baines > everybody else”

Firstly, it’s not that controversial or unusual. Many fans appear unhappy with Evra this year.
Rating 2 other Premiership players as better than Evra is not a view deserving rebuke.

Secondly, his statement goes directly to your discussion. Is Baines good enough?
kanchelskis rates him as 2nd best in the League, that is relevant.

Thirdly, as this is about a potential United signing, your descriptions of Baines were far more derogatory than being rated as outside the top two. Your “clumsy, inept, mediocre, underambitious, mid-table team player with no skill” is a little more scathing. You bracket Baines with Heskey and Downing for goodness sake!

How is calling english players “Overrated” racist?. How does the term refer to colour though? i’m baffled and secondly, aren’t english players rated more than their capabilities? have they not been shown up on the grandest stage of all that technically, they are no where and will never be as good as those around the continent?. I’m sorry but those are the cold hard facts. For every english player getting praised, south-america or somewhere in europe or africa produces produce triple of these players and they’re better both technically and mentally, they’re able to perform on the big stage but can that be said of england who continues to struggle in the international scene? giving out hopes to fans that another football messiah has been born only to find out you actually need a full team of top players to compete.

It’s nothing to do with race.

    1. Semantics. English is a nationality, not a racist. If it’s anything, it’s xenophobia, not racism.

    2. Being ‘overrated’ cannot be a term of direct criticism. It’s a passive term, referring to the people that are doing the rating not he players themselves. To be overrated is no fault of one’s own.

  339. Costas says:

  340. samuel - united WE stand says:

It’s not racism, it’s the cold hard facts that you probably don’t want to hear. England produce good players but elevate them into super-human status as quick as possible, they get exposed for all their deficiencies as footballers and that’s the truth. The english players tend to be overpriced or over-rated, it’s been going on for years (carroll, henderson). The irony of england screaming racism though, i don’t think any of us want to really look back through history.

  347. zelh says:

    Evra better defender?
Not really. Got skinned by almost everyone in the league this season.

Whatever some of you may say, Evra is ten light years ahead of Baines in terms of overall quality. That’s why Evra is at United, and Baines, in his late twenties, at Everton, an underachieving mid-table team.

Can’t wait for A. Cole to retire so Baines can be the best LB in the country. You made my day kanch, LOL.

I don’t get it, were not losing any wingers and park doesn’t count since he’s been drafted into midfield. in fact we may have Danny plying his trade on the wing should SAF decide to ditch two on top.

I’ll take any kind of cover for pat. hell I’d get JOS back

  358. kanchelskis says:

    @AntiScouser

Yeh, can’t waste your precious time getting basic facts right. First the Clichy thing, then citing Baines as having played only in a CC final. Mind telling me who contested the 2009 FA Cup final? I suppose Chelsea winning the thing satisfies your bizarre logic of left-backs single-handedly settling the outcomes of games, since they had Cole…

Really don’t know why I’m lowering myself to arguing with someone who clearly doesn’t watch a lot of football. There is very little evidence, from the past couple of years, of Evra being ‘ten light years’ ahead of Baines. As has been pointed out all season long, and on this thread, Evra’s defending has been absymal ever since the World Cup. I could point out countless instances where his balls-ups have cost us points. If you can do the same for Baines at Everton, I’d be very surprised.

Also, how do you define Everton as ‘underachieving’? In terms of points gained per pounds spend, you’d probably find they’re the biggest overachievers in the league. Again, don’t let facts get in the way of your crackpot arguments though.

Again, if you look at the FACTS, you might get an idea as to why Baines is at Everton. United, up until a couple of years ago, had the LB spot nailed. Chelsea have had it nailed for years. City have got two very good options in there. He’d obviously never go to Liverpool. Arsenal … they’ve constantly been linked with him. Again, you’re defining his quality purely by the team that he’s in, and it’s fucking bollocks. The summer that we signed Berbatov from Spurs, they’d finished ELEVENTH (6 places and some 20 points behind Everton). I guess we shouldn’t have signed him, cos he was in his late 20s at an underachieving club, right?

  359. Atin says:

@ Kanchelskis – noooooooooooooooooooooooooooo! Now you’ve gone and dragged Berba into this! “That” berba debate just might get opened again…!

  360. kanchelskis says:

    @Atin

    Ohh … GOD!

    WHAT HAVE I DONE?!! :)

  361. AntiScouser says:

” terms of points gained per pounds spend”

First of all, it’s not true. There are better teams than Everton in terms of points gained per pounds spent. Look it up. Since when is “points gained” less important then “points gained per pounds spent”?. Let’s stick with the more basic “points gained” concept, shall we? Everton are, points-gained-wise, a mediocre, mid-table team. If they had more money, they’d be a better team, I’m not denying that. But then again, if they had more money, they’d get a better player than Baines to do the job. No, wait a minute, tey wouldn’t because there’s nobody better than Baines apart from A. Cole. LOL

“The summer that we signed Berbatov from Spurs, they’d finished ELEVENTH (6 places and some 20 points behind Everton). I guess we shouldn’t have signed him, cos he was in his late 20s at an underachieving club, right?”

Apples and oranges. Berbatov is a talented player with a mesmerizing touch that won a couple of things before he joined United.

@kanchelskis: “After A.Cole, Baines is the best PL left back”

  362. kanchelskis says:

    @AntiScouser

Oh yeh, sorry. Berbatov won stuff. Thank God we never followed up on those leads with Cristiano Ronaldo, Wayne Rooney, Rio Ferdinand, Roy Keane, Bryan Robson, Denis Law etc etc, eh? Nipped that shit in the bud. Phew.

Who would you put in between Cole and Baines? I will listen to arguments for Assou-Ekotto, but that’s about it. Clichy? No. Evra? Certainly not.

Nothing you’ve said follows any logic. You obviously just don’t like him. Like you just don’t like Young. Nothing wrong with that per se, but you’re letting your bizarre personal hangups – whatever they may be – interfere with any sort of logical debate.

  363. wayne says:

I was just getting over the depression of losing the title and then watched that pile of shit Sat night, fuck me what a crap season

AntiScouser – You look it up.

  365. WillieRedNut says:

I’ve a suggestion? Make AntiScouser our new chief scout! Kanchelskis can then go over the finer details of any transaction. Cedars and MG can arrange the travel. Costas will supply any needed stats on said players. Jeet and Albert Ross can sing the new arrivals some nice Stone’s songs. Sandeep will introduce them to FB. Sammy and Slim will tell them face to face whats required of United players. King Eric and Kings will forcefully tell them to sign the contracts, or else! I’ll sit back and watch the whole fucking show!

  366. Sparkz says:

Baines may not be the best left back in the world. In fact, I don’t think anybody would claim he is. But he’s a damn sight better than Evra. if he signs for us, he’d easily be the best left back at the club. Evra has been a shambles for coming up to 2 years now.

I’m not 100% convinced on whether Baines is Utd class, i’ll be honest. But he is a good player, and his delivery would also be another vital asset for us. If Fergie signs him, I’ll be more than willing to give him a chance.

This point about “he’s 27 and is still at Everton” is rubbish. Dwight Yorke was playing for Aston Villa at that age….he didn’t do too badly for us did he?

  367. kanchelskis says:

    Signings who ‘won stuff’ include

    Veron
    Kleberson

    Laurent Blanc

Doesn’t get any better, does it AntiScouser?

  368. kanchelskis says:

    @Sparkz

Yeh, I hadn’t even touched on that yet. Might finally get back to having a player who can actually stick the ball in the fucking net from a FK.

  369. kanchelskis says:

“the amount each club spent in the 2011 summer transfer window and the January 2012 equivalent”

Hahaha! What a great study. Two transfer windows examined, and not the slightest mention of either players sold, or wage bills.

Wouldn’t wipe my arse with that if it was printed out.

  370. kanchelskis says:

Plus, you realise that Everton are essentially third even in that piddly little study. Only 2 clubs have spent LESS than them on each PL point.

  371. AntiScouser says:

    @kanchelskis

Every study has its limitations, of course. But you accuse me of being illogical. My dear Andrei, logic stepped out of the discussion the minute you said:

@kanchelskis: “After A.Cole, Baines is the best PL left back”

    LOL.

  372. kanchelskis says:

    @AntiScouser

If all you’re going to do is repeat something I said – which I stand by and which many have agreed with – you may as well give up now. How is that moving the debate along?

    1. Did you realise that Everton were 3rd, not 18th, in terms of value per point? Be honest.

    2. WHO comes between Cole and Baines? And on what basis?

  373. coomy says:

  374. AntiScouser says:

    @kanchelskis

Ah, finally, you resort to insult. Sad, but predictable.

    1. Yes (honest). I din’t claim Everton were one of the worst in terms of points gaind per pound spent, so this question makes no sense. I only pointed out they were not the best.

    2. LOL. I’ve answered that already, check one of my earlier posts. Let me leave you by reminding you of your life’s work:

@kanchelskis: “After A.Cole, Baines is the best PL left back”

    LOL squared.

  375. Albert Ross says:

    AntiScouser

You correct my english incorrectly, and why point away from the facts and towards grammar?

Everton have consistently over-performed in the Premiership. You cannot consider 1 season when squads evolve every year. Talk-shite is anyway a pathetic reference.

You end with LOL – very condescending.

A big joke because instead of linking your ‘proof’ you asked us to do it for you, and when you were asked to do it yourself you brandished it instantly. It’s not funny, and laughing at your own silly trick continues your pathetically disrespectful approach.

I have spoken politely to you several times on this thread, each time logically backing my view. You have ignored all these posts, until childishly finding amusement by laughing at my grammar, and then chortling at your stupid trick.

You are obviously unable and unwilling to discuss your views rationally. In fact, it is your intention to be abrasive and condescending, and you chose your topics accordingly.

Insult?! Where’s the insult? Seriously, sorry if I hurt your feelings, but I really can’t see anything in my previous post that could be called an insult.

    1. OK I believe you. They’re not far off the top – in the very narrown window examined in that study. I’m convinced that a longer view would push them further towards the top.

    2. I don’t need any reminding. I’ll stick by it, and you seem to be the only person, either on here or in the real world, who finds that such a hilarious proposition.

Listen, I’m sorry Leighton Baines offends you so profoundly, for whatever reason. But I think we’ve established that – whatever the reason may be – it’s naff all to do with logic or football. Every attempt at a logical argument which you’ve come up with has been shot down, either by myself or by someone else. In the end, your last line of argment is: “copy kanchelskis’s proposition” … “paste” … “write LOL” … presumbably you’ll forgive us if we don’t take you entirely seriously.

    RE: Overated English players

Of course English players are overrated In England, it’s hardly surprising and happens in most countries because that’s what the general public and the media are exposed to most.

Mind you I think saying that other countries produce better is wrong. We generally only see the pinnacle of the foreign football so it looks higher, it’s much like the way people will complain about the quality of British TV and hold the US up as an example of top quality TV when in reality the overall quality of UK tv is higher it’s just we don’t see much of the lower quality shows or have to experiance the scheduling in the way we do British TV. Also sometimes their leagues just as as Competative so the foreign players themselves get overrated, just look at the number of Brazillians who while I’m Brazil are labelled the best thing since Pele but how many have gone onto be really top class players when the come to Europe?

And people have said that England’s failure internationally shows that that’s English players are poorer players but I put that down to 2 things. Expectation which is higher than in most countries and that pressure seems to make players who usually perform freeze when they wear the 3 lions. It’s slightly understandable when you see the way the press demonise players for mistakes. The second is the general playing style in England, many of the other Countries natural playing styles translate better to the style needed internationally (perhaps partly because England seem to decide to play agains our natural game style).

  380. Jeet says:

    @Kanchelskis & Antiscouser:

The Evereton angle is ridiculous – I mean TonyV was signed from Wigan from ffs!!! However, IMO, there are players who I think are just as good, if not better than Baines, and despite all, I still think Evra is pretty damned good (I can explain why I think so, but it’s too lengthy). I think Fabio for one, is probably just as good, if not better than Baines (minus the freekicks of course). People will slaughter me for this, but I like the look of Assuo-Ekoto as well. Clichy seems to be doing surprisingly well at shitty, compared to some of his arsenal performances. Mind you, Cole has also started signs of being on the wane. But like I said, the entire thing of “he’s from a mid-table club and hence he’s shit” is absolute fuckall, if you ask me.

  381. kanchelskis says:

    @Jeet

If only AntiScouser could construct an argument like you, eh?

Looking at Assou-Ekotto and Clichy, of course the issue of availability becomes relevant. Everton are a selling club, where Spurs and City predominantly aren’t.

If Messi, Ronaldo, Hazard and Kagawa wanted to join us from Everton, you’d moan.

  384. AntiScouser says:

Everybody says stupid/incorrect/childish things. The difference between me and you boys is that I’m man enough to admit when I’m wrong.

Look, for example, at this pathetic excuse for a human being that goes by the name of Albert Ross. I cite a reference that supports my point (a valid point if I may add), not a perfect reference, but still a reference (something which he’s not done), and he goes on to say:

“Everton have consistently over-performed in the Premiership. You cannot consider 1 season when squads evolve every year. Talk-shite is anyway a pathetic reference”

…he cites no reference to back his own views and practically copies kanckelskis critique of my reference. I’ve offered something when challenged. I accept the criticism, the study’s not perfect, if you find a better one with different results I will gladly change my opinion.

And that’s a quality you do not possess. I’m supposed to respect you? Take a look in the mirror, pal.

  385. kanchelskis says:

AntiScouser, 14:47: “Ah, finally, you resort to insult. Sad, but predictable.” (in spite of no insult uttered)

AntiScouser, 15:08: “Look, for example, at this pathetic excuse for a human being that goes by the name of Albert Ross”

    Fun times.

  386. NotoriousRedDevil says:

@ Jeet – Hello mate. You ain’t going to get slaughtered by me for bringing up A-E. Seen a lot of Spurs games this season and he has got better as the season has gone in.

Hypothetically speaking if Evra was unavailable for first few months of next season I can guarantee people will start to miss him. I don’t think he should be replaced I just think he needs a spell out the team for a while. I’d prefer to see Fabio have a run at left back or even Zeke Fryers (if he’s signed a new deal) but thats unlikely to happen.

Baines would be a good option and we can start to have but I would never put him as the best LB in the PL behind ashley cole.

  387. AntiScouser says:

    @kanchelskis

I could construct a better argument if I had more time to accumulate all the facts. I’m working so I don’t. This is not an excuse, but you should be aware of the fact.

“Albert Ross is a pathetic excuse for a human being”

Correct. It is my moniker. A fairly pathetic excuse for a human being (me!)

I use it to excuse myself from the forum, and be ably represented there.
It protects me from foolish abusers.

Speaking to the forum about me, instead of conversing with me is cowardice. Their views of me are not determined by your silly abuse, and anyway I don’t tailor my views to pander to the fickle opinions of the audience. I present them as they are, and in my manner.

You are not “supposed to respect” me, or anyone.
That you even consider that respect is demanded, tells why you never show any.

  390. kanchelskis says:

    @AntiScouser

No, it wasn’t conceived as an insult. The way you had ‘LOL’ed when referring to the fact they were ONLY 3rd in the table, suggested to me that you had been confused by the admittedly bizarre decision to format the table backwards and to have Everton in 18th. Having them in third broadly supports the argument of those arguing that they have good points/pounds ratio. Them being 18th – for me – would’ve warranted a lol. Being 3rd, less so.

  391. AntiScouser says:

    @kanchelskis

Ok, I believe you. Can we move on?

  392. dannysoya LOVES SIAN MASSEY says:

Actually Baines is one of England’s best left backs and one of the world’s best left back. He’s at least a top 10 left back on the world stage without a doubt. Just because he plays for Everton takes NOTHING away from his talent. he is a far better DEFENDER than Evra but Evra is much better going forward. He takes freekicks, superb corners and generally all setpieces. He is FAR BETTER than Evra when it comes to positioning and getting back. Evra LOVES to get sucked in which is why nearly EVERY team we have played has put its most dangerous winger on the right side cuz they know fully well our vulenrability at the back. I think we should sign him and he should start STRAIGHT AWAY. he is four years younger than Evra too which is always a plus. Evra must be getting tired after not missing a single game ALL YEAR again.

  403. Albert Ross says:

    kanchelskis

Thanks! A witch-hunt averted, thank goodness!

coomy does NOT = AntiScouser or anyone else!

  404. AntiScouser says:

    @kanchelskis

    Thankfully, reason prevails.

  405. WillieRedNut says:

King Eric – I know mate. It’s not like Fergie to wait on a player? He must have something about him. Personally speaking, I won’t be gutted if we miss out on Hazard. We missed out on Shearer, got Ole. Nuff said. Didn’t get Ronaldinho, but signed Ronaldo. The boss will have back up plans in place. Hopefully that’s Kagawa.

  406. Albert Ross says:

    I’ll bet coomy is glad!

  407. Corea says:

On Hazard. I think you should get used to it. The world has changed. There is a big big thing as money.
So get modest. We want trophies and we want quality players who would come here to play for the clubof their dream. We have one with Berba and he is going to leave. We want better players and we have nothing to do rather than wait for Hazard to make his “choice of his life”. You know, he hasn’t played a single game for us and you want him to straightforwardly play for our history and our manager and our fans etc. Cmon, get modest guys! ;) :-P

On Baines. He isn’t worse than Evra so no gamble. Just a competion for places which Evra, oupps, United, badly needs.
Fabio for LB ? Don’t think so already.
    Cheers.

  408. King Eric says:

Jeet – Hazard looks a great player mate but I do not like all this bullshit at the minute.

  409. Fred says:

Shinji is no back-up plan. He’s our #1 priority. 8)

  410. Fred says:

Hazard and his agent will not turn down the money. This bandit is Eastlands-bound and down, no doubt about it.

  411. King Eric says:

Corea – Hello mate. No. I do not want cunts having to decide between us and those two shit house clubs else its ALL about money pal. Don’t want those types. If it isnt for money then one look round OT’S trophy ROOMS and ground etc should make it a no brainer.

  412. King Eric says:

Fred – Inclined to agree pal. Greed and self loving written all over the pretty boy cunt.

  413. Corea says:

@King Eric – i wholeheartedly agree with you pal. But how many of those who go to the games think exactly the same ? Who is at fault that bargains like Ozil etc go to other clubs ? Who is at fault Pogba chose to leave ? Who is at fault that the world is different ?
There things Fergie must understand and like he said he knows that the change has happened and sometimes you should just get on with it. Agents thing included.
Sign Kagawa for 16 mln and let’s just move on. To our next target. Hazard may choose what he wants. This whole thing is sad and we may get angry but it’s the way it is.

  414. Fred says:

City and Chelsea will be sending him all sorts of bribes and sweeteners to help him make his decision, no question of that.

  415. AntiScouser says:

I don’t get this “players who sign for other clubs are greedy money grabbing whores” rethoric. Like our players are poorly paid? Like we don’t sign players by offering them huge wages? Come on. We’re no different.

We are in a weaker position when bidding for top players: (1) due to Glazeronomics, as we have less money to put into bidding and less wage money to offer, (2) because SAF is coming to the end of his tenure and players are affraid, in my opinion reasonably, what will happen with the club once he retires.

  416. samuel - united WE stand says:

I know evra has dropped in standards he set but baines being better defensively?. Have you actually watched him against some top wingers?. He’s good but he is not the world class player some people make him out to be. He’s decent and will provide competition for patrice but he’s no world beater and for someone to say he’s amongst the top 10 left backs in the world, well name me at least 5? the quality in full-back position around the world has dropped significantly. You get mostly wing-backs these days. Not many quality all round players.

  417. WillieRedNut says:

Fergie will bribe him by sending over Jorge Mendes to seal the deal. 8)

  418. Fred says:

You know, I’ve never heard anything like this in my life. A player keeping three clubs on tenterhooks before very publicly rejecting two of them. :? I can’t imagine Fergie being very happy with that.

  419. slim says:

    willirednut

I shall perform my duties with the respect and diligence the post derserves :-)

  420. Albert Ross says:

    AntiScouser

You attacked me viciously and without cause.

  421. kanchelskis says:

    @Fred

See my post at 8:58 for some possible defences of Hazard’s behaviour.

  422. Costas says:

How has he managed to agree personal terms with all 3 clubs? Either United have matched City’s offer in wages (which I find as hard to believe as an Antiscouser comment) or he’d like to join us for less? Either way, they say he will make up his mind by June 2nd. Here’s hoping. That way we can focus on finally buying Heskey.

    @wayne

    Thanks mate. Still undecided!

  423. Fred says:

England fans heading to the Euros are going to be targeted by a group of Ukranian radicals. http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/4333917/England-fans-Euro-2012-topless-demo-targets.html Please join me in praying for their safety.

  424. Fred says:

Costas – could well be that he is demanding more from City than he is from us, as I theorised the other day. That would explain the reports that City of all people were baulking at his excessive demands.

  425. Albert Ross says:

Costas – The 3 packages will not be identical, and that applies to wages.
United offer a far bigger market for endorsements, so perhaps that will balance it.

  426. Costas says:

    @Fred

    Poor sods.

  427. CedarsDevil says:

By the way I think Willie is frigging hilarious…….. Just saying, for what its worth

  428. slim says:

    KE

hey up mate. don’t like hazard. boy got skills but can’t figure out what fergie wants with another winger. what’s the story mate, is young or nano on the way out. been out of the UK for a couple of months maybe I’m missing something here. the layaway links on the other hand sound tasty

  429. WillieRedNut says:

I truly believe Fergie could convince any player in the world to sign for United. All he would need, is a one on one sit down, with that player. 8)

    slim –

  430. samuel - united WE stand says:

I’m no longer laying blame at pogba’s agent anymore, i think he wants to move juve for whatever reason. Perhaps that’s dream club but he has left united high and dry. Maybe FERGIE shouldn’t have given him all those credits, it’s all gone into his head but he’ll realise the italian league isn’t all rosey. It’s tactical over there, more pragmatic than any league. Good fortune to him adapting.

I’d imagine FERGIE has someone else lined up. Nick powell has been doing the rounds, his stats back up all the hype of being a talented midfielder. Time will tell if united are actually interested/ Wanting to sign or have signed him.

Hazard is fucking about. Never placed my hopes on him signing, seems bound for city and to avoid the embarrassment, it’s probably best we show less reliance on his arrival.

  431. CedarsDevil says:

Oh and so is Fred! Always puts a smile on my face

  432. Fred says:

kanchelskis – that’s all very well but there’s no excuse for making his decision in such a public way. Clubs like to get their transfer business done quickly and quietly, but Hazard is doing the exact opposite.

  433. slim says:

    lol nano.
    Nani

  434. Costas says:

    @Fred, Albert Ross

Probably guys. I found it hard to believe that we would match their offer in wages. And Fred is onto something about City baulking at his demands. Didn’t make that connection.

At least it’s good to know that there are still some players that won’t accept City’s offer with their eyes closed. I still expect him to sign for them or Chelsea though, lol.

  435. kanchelskis says:

    @Fred

    Agreed.

  436. WillieRedNut says:

United won’t offer the same wages as city. As been said, incentives will be included in our deal. Also structured in a way like Rooney’s transfer. Depended on how the players fares, and United of course. His appearances. United winning the CL…..

  437. Fred says:

Cedars – thank you, I’m touched! You’re pretty darn funny too. :)

samuel – that last paragraph you wrote sums up my thoughts exactly. Anyone hoping for Hazard should heed your advice.

  438. WillieRedNut says:

    You’re a beautiful soul, Cedars? And a drunk! :P

  439. CedarsDevil says:

    Willie

I only drink on weekdays, on week ends I only have booze!! If anything though, I am no drunk, just ask Mike and Jimmy James, I just cannot handle alcohol. Always out drunk by women, well one woman in particular and she is Irish!

  440. Fred says:

Speaking of Hazard’s decision, I’m sure Vincent Kompany will be offering plenty of advice over in Belgium’s training camp.

  504. Wakey says:

    @AntiScouser

We don’t have less money for wages. The clubs policy for atleast the last 25 years has been that wages should be no more than 50% of revenue. To blame the Glazers for continuing a sensible policy on wages is just idiotic.

    @Costas
There are reports in France he has agreed wages lower with us than at the other clubs. There are factors other than wages that do come into play and some of these are factors which Chelsea and City can’t better us on.

Mind you I doubt our offers that much lower than the other 2.

    @samuel
Nah Pogbas agent is the root cause. Footballers aren’t traditionally the smartest people anyway and when they are young players as well it won’t be hard for an agent who is supposed to be looking out for you to keep whispering in their ear to influence them. I suspect Juve and Pogbas agents is telling him that he will get more game time at Juve which I personally doubt he will get as English clubs seem to blood young players more than the Italian clubs.

  505. FletchTHEMAN says:

Rumors that our bid for Hazard is in the £31M range.

United leads all other EPL Clubs in

    But also leads in
    Net Debt £308M
    Interest payable £50M/year

Wages as percent of turnover: at 46% (lowest in league) yep even with Rooney factored)

  508. Albert Ross says:

    OPTA website.

Baines was dribbled past 10 times this season.
Patrice Evra and Ashley Cole were both beaten 29 times.

  509. Udhala says:

Evra and Ashley played in the champions league while Baines played in only local competitions hence meeting world class wingers.

  510. Udhala says:

Evra and Ashley played in the champions league while Baines played in only local competitions hence they both met world class wingers.

  511. Costas says:

    @Wakey

Yeah, that’s probably what’s happening with Hazard. Although I imagine that if City are offering him wages in the Toure range, then it’s a lot more than what we are offering. But we don’t know for sure.

Quick comment on Pogba. It’s all on him I feel. There were comments from his agent where he said that he advised him to accept United’s offer. So the fact that he’s yet to commit to United has to do with him wanting out.

  512. Fred says:

That’s a pretty interesting stat from Albert Ross, especially as it disproves the anecdotal evidence I’ve been reading on United blogs and forums since last night, which suggested that Baines’s biggest weakness was the ease with which he is frequently beaten by wingers.

It would be useful to know if those are domestic-only stats, as Udhala makes a good point ALTHOUGH it’s worth noting that in Basel, Benfica, Otelul Galati, Ajax and Bilbao, United weren’t exactly facing the world class opposition Udhala suggested

  513. Wakey says:

    @Udhala

I suspect that the OPTA stats are just PremierLeague games. In Evra’s defence mind you he played 5 more games and United play a more open style of football where as Everton pack the midfield more so Evra’s always going to get caught more just as Baines would playing for us.

  514. Wakey says:

    @Costas

I don’t think it’s anywhere near what they are paying Yaya Toure. Everything in the press suggest the days of overpaying wages to that level are now gone because with a League Title and CL football they don’t believe it’s needed to attract players now.

On Pogba I haven’t seen those quotes but personally agent quotes are meaningless. They may be the bad guys but getting a rep as a bad guy isn’t good for business. Pogba just doesn’t strike me as someone wanting away. He looks happy when with both the first team and reseverves and surely if he wanted off that badly he would be gone. He seems to me like someone being pulled in lots of directions by people with motivates of their own .

Mind you what I don’t understand is why United haven’t activated the extra year clause to atleast force Juve to have to pay a higher fee.

  515. Costas says:

    @Wakey

Maybe he was happy at Le Havre too. Until a lucrative offer came along and he left without second thought. I think this is a case of history repeating itself. Only this time we are in Le Havre’s shoes. Can’t find a link with the Raiola story I told you. If I remember correctly, the gist of it was that Raiola told him to accept United’s offer but Pogba still hadn’t made up his mind. I have a feeling he still hasn’t…

  516. Fred says:

Hasn’t he noticed that we’re short on central midfielders? You’d think he’d fancy his chances of breaking into the first team, but apparently not. Seems like he blew his chance by faffing about with his contract.

  517. Marq says:

Getting dribbled past is one thing, being there to be dribbled past is another, stats can be misleading

  518. Albert Ross says:

OPTA stats is from eplindex .com – Everton Analysis – it applies only to the Premier League.

“If Leighton Baines’ statistics going forward were not quite as imperious as in recent seasons – although he still created the 11th most chances in the league – his defensive performances were excellent once again. His ability at the back is often masked by his superb contribution going forward, but few wingers ever get the better of him. Baines was only dribbled past 10 times this season, whereas Patrice Evra and Ashley Cole were both beaten 29 times. It was very fitting that he made the PFA Team of the Year.”

Like I said, if he went walkabout in the final 3rd, the opposition didn’t have to dribble past him to create a chance from his side. So that statistic is flawed. Perhaps if you couple it with tackles attempted/won, it would show the better picture
