Anthony Martial has spoken about his pride in getting to wear Manchester United’s number nine shirt but wants to make a name for himself at the club, in an interview with MUTV.

For sure, it’s a shirt that a lot of great players have worn, but I am confident in my own ability and I hope one day to be able to honour the shirt myself.

Martial has also reflected on the moment last summer when his agent told him that United were interested in bringing him from Monaco to Manchester.

When my agent told me that Manchester United wanted to sign me it was a truly exceptional moment for me and I did not hesitate for one second. Now I’m actually here, I can totally appreciate that it’s one of the biggest, and probably is the biggest clubs in the world. So now I just want to perform really well here and make the supporters proud.

When talking about himself, Martial comes across as fairly down to earth.

I’m quite a reserved person, a bit shy at first when I don’t know someone. I like to have a laugh and a joke, people have seen that in me. But yes, I’m fairly quiet and I love spending time with my family. We go out for walks, out to a restaurant. Nothing special, just normal stuff.
