It was a huge shock when Anthony Martial signed for £35m in the summer, as most supporters had never heard of him. But he made a great start to life at Manchester United, coming off the bench to score in a 3-1 win over Liverpool. Ahead of Sunday’s game against our big rivals, Martial has reflected on his debut.
It’s a high-intensity game that is very important for the fans and it’s one of the most viewed games anywhere in the world. From the minute I arrived, I was told that I’d got here at the moment that we were about to play against one of our big rivals. I was told that I would have to be ready and waiting, so I made sure that I was prepared mentally and focused for the game ahead. So the fact that I managed to come on made me feel really great and then it was even better to get on the scoresheet, as it allowed the supporters to get to know me and see what I could do as a player. It was a really great start to my career at this club.
