Juan Mata has made a good start to the season and Manchester United’s best performance of the season came when the Spaniard replaced Wayne Rooney in the no.10 role against Leicester. Mata scored one and assisted another in United’s 4-1 win over the champions.

When Jose Mourinho first took charge of United there were lots of rumours that Mata would be sold, just as he was a few months in to the manager’s first few months when he returned to Chelsea. However, Mourinho has claimed that the player who was “good” at Stamford Bridge is “very good” at United, now that he’s in his “natural habitat”.

Mata has today spoken about the lies that were written about his relationship with Mourinho in the summer.

Many lies were told about me and Mourinho when he arrived at the club this summer and it bothered me that every day I had to read and listen to rumours that weren’t true. With him I’m fine. You read a lot of comments on Facebook and Twitter but they just make you laugh. I really want to lift titles at Manchester United, the Premier League is a trophy I have never won but I believe we can do it with this group.
