David May has sung the praises of Manchester United youngster, Chris Smalling, claiming he’s getting better all the time.
“He’s done really well, he’s been fantastic,” said May. “He’s only 21 and to go from non-league to Manchester United and the England squad is fantastic. He’s 6ft 3ins, he’s got pace and he’s getting better on the ball. At United it improves you. It’s not a question of whether you can play football, you have to play football. It’s all about confidence in the people around you. When you’ve got the quality of players around you like you have at United, you know you can pass it to them. If you take Vidic and Ferdinand out then you’ve got two fantastic centre halves in Jonny Evans and Smalling to fill in. They have the potential to be the future. Potential is a big word with footballers, it’s whether they step up to the mark.”

Man Utd News 24/7

Always liked David May, great bloke and will never forget his celebrations when we won the CL in 99…
As for Smalling, I agree, he seems to be getting better and better, I am sure he will get a game tonight
Tonight’s line-up, anyone?
Amos
Brown
Evans
Smalling
Fabio
Obertan
Gibson (is he fit?)
????
Bebe
Kiko
Chicho
Not sure about the other CM. I fully believe we should stick with Ando and Carrick on Saturday – when they click they’re our most complete midfield partnership. But it seems silly to play either Scholes or Fletch in a match like this.
What do you think?
I hope Ando plays, he needs games under his belt, the rest of your team seems very likely, not sure about Gibbo either…. I am sure that Sir Alex will have some experience on the bench though, just in case
I can see that team being put out but I think Fergie will play
Kuscasck, O’Shea Smalling Evans Fabio Bebe Gibson Anderson Obertan Macheda Hernandez, Subs: Amos, Rooney, Brown, C Evans, Nani, Morrison Gill
Always look forward to cup ties especially in a location thats bound to be intense…Upton Park. I think the fact that Kuszack is on his way out would mean Amos gets to play but I cant help but feel Fergie will milk everything he can out of what seems to be VDS”s last season so he starts. Giggs may start due to a lack of match fitness
Van Der Sar
Fabio Smalling Evans O’Shea
Giggs Anderson Carrick Obertan
Macheda Hernandez
Subs: Amos,Brown,G.Neville,Gibson,Rooney,Morrison,Giggs
Smalling has been impressive so far, indeed. but I have concerns about Johnny. he goes from bad to worse
five
So you have Giggs starting and at the same time on the bench? lol
not telling us anything new we all know smalling is getting better and playing for utd normally makes players better.must be a slow newsday
Whatever team you put out tonight you will beat us as Kovac and Boa Morte wil play and they are awful to say the least. Up the hammers
@five fletcher didnt play on saturday so it is very likely he will feature and vds is probaly not going to play.
@kanchelskis
on Tonight’s line-up, anyone?
Amos
Brown
Evans
Smalling
Fabio
Obertan
Gibson if fit
O’shea
Bebe
Kiko
Chicho
Agreed on Anderson/Carrick, altough Ando will benefit from more games, they should be played together after seeing that game against B’burn. They fulfill each other so well. Anderson driving midfield forward, playing short passes, and Carrick, staying put some way back Ando, and spreading the long passes. And both have the physical capasity to win the ball back.
off topic, just something id like to get off my chest. (and get some opinions)
i was out w the boys last weekend and inevitably, we got talking abt football. and this plastic of all plastic United fan mentioned we need to sign Benzema. we slagged him off and he shut it after.
however, my question is this: this benzema(&dzeko) thing is not just contained to my friend alone. various forums and many lesser RoM commenters have also thrown his name about whenever there is a striking debate going on. to me, he has not impressed at champs league, Real or at international level, so why are there people who keeps going on and on that he’s the best thing since sliced bread? i really dont understand this.

@user404
I feel the same as you do for Benzema, he is quite the lesser footballer when compared with Hernandez, and in my opinion, Owen, still. We don’t need none of them, and even if we need a striker, that’s Welbeck.
@user404 sir alex has followed him since he was a teenager and before moving to real benzema showed promise alot of players seem to struggle at madrid, if real hadn’t outbid us he would be a utd player.still think if he becomes available for a discount price utd will move for him
@user404 – Benzema played well against us three seasons ago and scored a nice goal – I think that’s it pretty much.
Off topic, I really hope that Nani was watching Pedro’s goal against Madrid last night – he could learn a lot from that. (Nani > Pedro, before I get accused of being an idiot)
Off Topic: Its going to be tough to predict the lineup for today’s match but i think SAF will field a strong team considering its at Upton Park against a team which has nothing to lose so my lineup for today would be:
VDS
FABIO EVANS SMALLING BROWN
GIGGS ANDO CARRICK OBERTAN
HERNANDEZ MACHEDA
Gimme Eikrem!!! If there’s a match for him, is today, cup tie against the Hammers.
wayne, i think sir and the scouting team probably follows quite alot of people, not just benzema.
i’ve really never seen much from him personally. there’s probably quite a number of stikers that are better than him i feel. benzema is certainly not fit to polish either rooney or berba’s boots!
@user404 sir alex has already tried to sign him twice and when he came onto the scene in 07 he was only 19 and scored 31 goals,i agree hes not as good as rooney or berba and his form at madrid has been very poor all i’m saying the reason we always get linked with him is because sir alex really likes him.
i think a strong team will play, but not eddy. Can see berbatov and rooney playing this one. Wazza needs games and you don’t drop berbs after the weekend, he did so after the liverpool match and his form suffered for it. Anderson was class on saturday and think he’ll start again due not having played much and to keep his form ticking over
amos
o shea, smalling, evans, fabio
obertan, anderson, gibson, giggs
rooney, berbatov
about benzema, never been a fan plus he’s got those child prostitution charges hanging over him with ribery. With all the fuss over rooney don’t think we’d waste our time with him anymore. hernandez has the potential to be a 20-30 goals a season forward so signing another forward is last on the agenda unless we sell first
He’s got more medals than Shearer…
As for the team tonight, my predicted line up:
Kuszczak – Brown, Smalling, Evans, Fabio – Obertan, Fletcher, Anderson, Giggs – Chicha, Macheda.
We are reaching the point where a loss will hurt a lot due to our undefeated run. If we don’t lose in the next 6, we will set a new record under SAF.
@Costas: I was thinking of the same line-up…telepathy? Or that’s more in the MG-RedGem line LOL
Costas – Hello mate. How is the weather in Greece ? Hope you are well. I agree with your team but I have a sneaky feeling Amos will get the nod.
Off topic . Anyone hear Norman on Paddy show last night? Comedy gold? “The wetherby hillbilly” Superb.
@Jeet
Nah, I think that the MG-RedGem stuff is on a whole different level, lol. I don’t particulary to care to win the league cup again, but I’d hate if the streak was broken tonight.
@KIng Eric
Hi mate. I am good, thanks. Hope you are well too. I didn’t want to flaunt our weather over here, but it’s still quite warm here. People still walk around with t-shirts during the day. Winter probably got lost on its way to Greece, lol.
Has anyone any idea who David Mays hero is??????????
@King Eric, So tell us about the show then.
peak/Costas – I agree that it would be a good thing for SAF to give Anderson another start – even if he is limited to sixty minutes in anticipation of Saturday. The guy needs playing time – and lots of it. In that regard, I think that WayneRooney is another one who is likely to be starting tonight because he also needs playing time – and lots of it. But “predicting” the team sheet is sheer folly – it “almost” seems that SAF chops-and-changes just to play with our (supposed) minds.
Somewhat off-topic: I was somewhat surprised that Jose Mourinho was so honest and so very “gracious” in defeat. He will probably use that total humiliation to provoke his own players – “see, that’s the level you guys have to reach if you want to be champions”.
Thanks David for telling us something we already know.
“Yaya Toure’s on about £200,000 a week. He couldn’t lace Scholes’ boots.” – I though this was a much better quote from May!!!!
Fletch – There is this idiot “John from Wetherby” which incidentally is 3 miles from me who phones the show every week to moan. He suggested a while back we should buy Nolan. Anyway Norman is an old man who has followed United since the 50′s attends training and knows Fergie and the players inside out. Well he called Paddy last night saying where is that “Wetherby hillbilly, he is probably a Leeds Fan and never even seen United play, his best comment was a few weeks back when he said sell Rooney and get Carew” Excellent.
Costas – You lucky man. Its awful over here mate.
Xyth – There’s not many CM anywhere that could lace Scholesy boots, never mind Bore bore Toure.
