Having turned down the opportunity to be David Moyes’ assistant manager at Manchester United, it has today been announced that Rene Meulensteen has replaced Guus Hiddink as FC Anzhi Makhachkala manager.

Meulensteen had joined Anzhi as Hiddink’s assistant but has been promoted to manager following Guus’ resignation.

“This decision was not easy for me, but I’ve always said that my mission is that Anzhi can continue to develop themselves without me,” said Hiddink. “Now that time has come. I am convinced that this club has a great future ahead and I’m glad I’ve been part of this project.”

We wish Rene all the best.
