“You keep caning me and then you ask for interviews,” Owen said, turning down requests to speak about his goal against Wigan to the press.
There is something appealing about Owen’s “me against the world” attitude. It’s a feeling we so frequently feel against the FA and the press. He became a bit of a laughing stock at Newcastle, something I certainly enjoyed, so it is understandable he wants to stick his fingers up at everyone now he’s a Manchester United player. In an interview at the beginning of the month he smugly said those who doubted him should feel ‘embarrassed’ now.
Before that he looked at how the media had treated him during his time with Newcastle.
“If you don’t score and you don’t win, you are wrong to have a helicopter and fly home each week to see your kids,” said Owen. “If the goals had been going in I would have been a great lad, popping home to see my three kids and be a family man on a Tuesday after training. I would have been thoughtful and innocent little things would not be misrepresented.”
So, he didn’t give the press their interview after scoring, but he did have a word with MUTV about the criticism he’s had already at United, and likened that to the criticism United have faced over the years.
“I only played an hour or so against Burnley and had 15-20 minutes in the home game against Birmingham, so I’ve not played 90 minutes yet in total but there has still been quite a lot made of the fact I hadn’t scored,” said Owen. “It was as though I hadn’t scored for a couple of years, so it was a nice feeling to score. The stuff I’ve had to face over the years is the same for United. They have won the Premier League so many times, including the last three, so it is inevitable that one defeat or even one draw and everyone is mentioning the word ‘crisis’. Well, we’ve come up with the answer today.”
Who would have thought it? I’m actually starting to like Michael Owen!

Man Utd News 24/7

One of the best response to the media I have ever heard. That and Evra’s interview.
I am starting to like him too. Before, my feelings for him was neutral.
keep it up owen
just tell the ABU media to jog on and the fans will respect you for it
15-20 goals a season wouldnt hurt either!
Eeeasy Scott, lol! I have said that as a character, i liked him even before he came to us. And it’s nice to see someone identify what kind of shit United go through from the tabloids.
He’s right though, the media take the piss, I just hope he’s never on newsnow, some shit that’s written on there by the papers and that cunt Piers Morgan (Scott has a link to the article) he actually said that he’d faltten Ferugsons nose had he spoke to him like that. Who does this prick think he actually is? We lost to Burnley, a team that beat West Brom, Fulham (gets better) Arsenal and Chelsea last season, before they bought more players and improved their squad, there was no talks of crisis after them games, oh no, West Brom have bigger things to worry about, Arsenal played their kids, Chelsea were caught of guard as they’re focusing on the league and Fulham are in the top half focusing on Europe. We lose to them and Owen is shite, we can’t win without Ronaldo (the overrated one that did nothing for most of last season but now he’s in a Madrid shirt he’s great again). You can only sit back in disbelief really.
Fantastic Invertivew!
1 goal every 90 minutes played would do for me!
Its Dissapointing when the Pundits & Media jump on the Doom and Gloom bandwagon! The love to knock players & Managers for anything that they can do! They do it every year, they build them up to knock them down, then when they are down they Keep knocking them!
Whats more dissapointing is that because its Owen, & Because he played for Liverpool They are as bad with Owens Critisim,
What do they expect?….. i think they want him to clear the ball off the line, Dribble up the pitch, Cross the ball & Run in the box and volley it into the top corner..> I forgot to mention this must be Against Liverpool & His goal Celibration must consist of Running Over to the Liverpool Fans Giving them The Fingers then kiss his Badge!
Last section was our own fans being Worse than the reporters!!
As scott mentioned, brilliant attitude.
Brilliant interview..you’ve got to hand it to him..maybe he’s not as sharp or lethal as he once was but he still has the skill that a lot of footballers dont..i hope he always gets a difficult chance to score cos he never scores on easy ones!! and the guy has a helicopter!! c’mon..you’ve got show some love..atleast for that
@Don Pablo
Yup..and laughed my ass off!!!
Only 1 way to shut them up mickey keep sticking the ball in the back of the net.
“Celibration must consist of Running Over to the Liverpool Fans Giving them The Fingers then kiss his Badge!”
I know you’re only joking trevor but that image had me laughing my ass off.
this is arguably why the daily mirror article was written
in MO7 we trust
why refer united as “They” when he IS actually a united player?
@ Red Rooney. I have heard him refer to United as ‘we’ in the past. I would imagine he only used ‘they’ in that sentence because he wasn’t involved in the teams that won the league.
He’s a good lad, it looks like he is ready to commit to our cause.
It’ll be interesting to see if owen scores against the dippers if he’ll celebrate the goal or do a ronny wen he scored against sporting lisbon.
I just read Simon Bird’s article in the mirror on Owen’s behavior and it seems as though this guy’s got an agenda against owen. He’s slating Owen left, right and centre with all the bullshit he dug up. Yes owen is not perfect, but to critisize someone so harshly for not giving an interview is hardly justifiable. I am sticking with Owen on this one and say it as boldly as I can! Fuck the media! Fuck Simon Bird and fuck the mirror.
11.47 Former Arsenal and Barcelona defender Sylvinho is weighing up a move to Manchester City, skysports.com understands.
Great response Michael !!!I’m starting too like him tooI
If lescott is worth 24 million wats vida and rio worth.
ive owen on the back of my jersey as a pure shot to the dippers around me but the guy has balls
and he’s not a media whole as a united man
and he’s also a united manas a united man
he is playing and aying the right right wa as in he wants to win alot more at united than a place in the in ger land world cup squad
and now he ot his name on the score sheet
when i was in the pub watching united beat liverpool 1nil last season ater a ronaldo peno the pub screamed in joy
thats the same reaction to owen getting his first real united goal
and what a great goal it was
but he’s keeping focased on the next united game
not getting cought in in the fact that he scored his teamwon big now everybody look at me
remember thisfirst goal and the happiness hecelebrated with
to the way tevez scored his last goal at united and the disrespect in his last 2 goal celebrations
im jumping on the scott bandwaggon
im startin to like micheal owen as a united player
and not just as a fantastic shot at the 2 decade failures
its now a fantastic bonas that could be in united season to the historic 19
(sorry f none of this makes sense, apart from the 1nil win over liverpool last season, i keep having to stoptyping and coming back)
Any of Evra’s comments are brilliant but this is a pretty good one from St Michael…
he can say to the press whatever he wants as long as he’s scoring and helping us win I couldn’t care less, I’m begining to like him
Good to see you back and on form ghtt. I was shocked wen we signed owen and lost out on benzema, but im starting to belive, it mite just be a master stroke by saf.
If Lescott is worth 24million whats Evans, Brown and O’Shea worth nevermind Rio and Vidic!!!!
Owen is decent player. I would eat my very shirt if he chose to play for Hull City.
A whole lot walter.
willierednut
who the fuck is benzema
is that the guy who scored the last min winner in a one nil victory against shamrock rovers
FUCK JOHN TERRY
I’m optimistic abt d lad goin 2d world cup cos he wll do anytin 2b dere,he wll score vital goals, luv d way he looses defenders.see hm on d score sheet cum saturday
seen him out in chester on saturday night in bar lounge, then apparently he was having a “private party” in the pub across the road from cruise night club!
The mitey shamrock rovers.
I think MO7 will do very well as long as he stays fit. He’ll score 15 -20 goals. He can play with Roo or Berba, no problem. You on yer MO.
its fantastic for the fans
united fans are split as far as i can see over owen
half think he will do well
half are dying that he’ll do well
its better than last season
half loved tevez
half didnt want the prick
Once he cupped his ears at fergie in the city game that was the last straw for me, owen will get more goals no doubt.
Go on Owen lad, at least you are quickly learning the United way. Fuck the ABU’s!
Just watched the game. Again. A bold statement but for me Fletcherino is THE best ” box to box” midfielder in the Premiership. Has alot more to offer than Mascherano and Mikel. Better passer of the ball than Essien.
Fletcher future captain.
willierednut
im not gonna lie
i liked tevez for the first 18 months of his united life
but i didnt know if i wanted him at united for the way he left west ham.
when you read the cover of the book it’ll read how tevez saved west ham
but the more you read of it the more you find out the guy knew west ham where only a stop gap
he settled for west ham because they were stupid enough to break the rules to get him
he did nothing but get his name out in the media for the start of the season and scored the odd goal ,like for us last season, but by not playing for the team west ham we’re getting into a mess they couldnt get out of
then tevez started playing when he knew a move away was happing and started playing and scoring to get his name out again ,like the end of last season for united. he played for himself not for the team the jersey or the club. he played the fans to make out like he wanted to stay but west ham werent doing enough. he used west ham and stood on them like a step to a team higher up the table.
i didnt know if i wanted this guy at united but after one season he grew on me and i sung his name.
but then last november, i seen how he was playing the media and the fans and i also seen his 2 goals in the league and it made me think he’s gonna do it again.
he did it again
but ive got a good feeling about owen
i know he’s at united to better himself and to leave football on a high and win trophys and a league
but he plays for the team to make sure they win.if united wins micheal owen wins,
tevez knew he was leaving united and west ham so he never really gave a shit
Spot on ghtt he played the fans of against the manager som united fans were fooled by em i was’nt. The interveiw he give to the papers the day of the city game was out of order, and as ive said that was the last straw. Hello king eric see wrightys not doing bow time anymore darren gough replacing him, any1 but mickey quinn lol.
Hello willie. Has Wrighty fucked off for good? To be fair to him he usually sticks up for United against the ginger one. He will probably be recording a new TV show.
Owen 1 – 0 Tevez
just to warn everyone here this is not a link to this weeks lotto numbers
its an anti tevz chant sang by emily
dont click it if you dont want
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xol0s4ENh_o

Thats him finished wiv bow time now, he was’nt the worst think he’s doing a show on channel 5.
See there is ANOTHER article on the Daily Mirror website slagging Owen…. they are like a jealous ex girlfriend
Like an obsessive ex girlfriend the Daily mirror have posted yet another critical article about Owen.
Are they verging on pathetic. Yes I think they are….
http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/opinion/columnists/simon-bird/Why-Michael-Owen-is-in-danger-of-ruining-his-prized-image-article128215.html
I QUOTE (when talking about owens brochure) “A more appropriate assessment would be: Ageing, battle scarred, chippy, inarticulate, lacking in class and loving to pass the blame for his own short-comings and misfortune with injuries.”
Wright is a twat, but not as bad a the fat dipper Quinn.
King Eric-He’s better than Mascherano and Mikel(who is horrible and is one of our best pieces of transfer business) but I don’t think he’s better than Essien. He’s equal to Essien and on his day, miles better.
PS:GHTT:What if I say not nice things underneath?
Mascherano is hardly box to box mate neither is Mikel for that matter.
i cry for 2 days
If you compare owen and tevez goal scoring record that says everything you need to know.
Hargreaves is box to box wen he’s fit.
Mickey Quinn is a scouse bast@rd
but at least he has an excuse for his anit united bile, tha guy durham is a disgrace- any chance to slag united he is there. scumbag
He’s a good lad
Durham is a cock, I remember him saying that Liverpool were everyones second club, and they deserved to win th etitle based on that? What people actually believe the bile which is projected out of that ginger twats mouth.
Wen there not slagging us of thats wen we’ll start to worry, i take it as a compliment.
tevez – 25 mil
owen – free
tevez – 5 league goals
owen – 1 league goal
owen has already saved us 5 mil. FACT.
Nice article. We do potentially have 3 of the best strikers in the business in Rooney, Berba and Owen. All different and all maybe with a point to prove.
Can you just imagine how the dippers will feel if, and I know it’s early days, but if we do make it 4 on the spin, get ahead of the scousers 19-18 and have pictures of Owen lifting the premiership title on the back page of every tabloid? I’ve gone all moist……
Spot on GHTT why havent i realised that earlier.. Aww it hurts to be cheated on like that. F*ck you Tevez.
Have you guys read the latest Tevez saying Fergie is afraid of facing Citeh? It’s on soccernet.
Do you why they call themselves “Daily Mirror”? Because they want to be like the mirror that Snow White’s stepmom look at everyday. That mirror isnt worth looking at, and Daily Mirror is not worth your time reading.
Stephen – I heard Durham saying exactly the same thing mate. He is controversial for the sake of being controversial. Instead of looking at Uniteds “problems” he should concentrate on his beloved Peterborough who can’t but a win. He was “100 per cent” behind the dirty, dogging, bird beating dipper bastard Collybore before Saturdays game saying we won’t win the league as we won’t score enough goals. Collymore really does have an agenda with Berba. Why are they all bigging up the Rentboys strike force? After those horrible cunts Drogba and Anelka they have nobody. We have Owen, Rooney, Berba, Macheda, Wellbeck, Giggsy. I will never forget when the dippers beat I think Athletico Madrid in the group stages of last seasons Champions League. The following day Durham said “I was watching Liverpool last night and they ARE the REAL DEAL. They will win the league this season etc etc”. Cunts the lot of them.
As for Quinny the fat little bastard he is a disgrace. Whatever happened to our very own Terry Christian. Too pro United was he?
makes me wanna buy a celtic jersey
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rqVgs_DABDU&
Owen is right to feel that the press have got it in for him.
One game in to the season and the criticism started. His goal at Wigan will be a great confidence boost to him and will hopefully be one of many.
Owen is one of the best strikers in england…waiting for the match againist dippers…n anyone heard the news bout modric n carrick exchange???…
Fletcher is the new Keano…not going to bang us a lot of goal…but he will make life a living hell for opponent midfielder and striker…
But future captain definately Rooney the King and Vida the Beast…
Owen no need other motivation…
Don Cappelo always going to watch his performance closely and last game Don that is the best evidence for you that Owen still got it…honestly they r no better alternative to partner Rooney aside from Defoe other than Owen…
Owen already remind me to Solskjaer…(supersub wise) come on MO7…
hope we can get the best from him
well done owen
off topic any1 read this:
http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2009/aug/24/wigan-athletic-manchester-united-tactics-david-pleat
and did u guyz hear bwt the modric rumour – carrick + £10m… :O
Hi Everyone,
We have to remember being carried away works both ways – the bin dippers and rent boys were all saying United are done for after we lost to Burnley, and we all know they were getting ahead of themselves…
We should exercise some caution here – I am beginning to REALLY like Michael Owen, but we are only setting ourselves up for a big fall if we get too far ahead of ourselves… we need to all listen to Fergie and take it at one game at a time.
I really wish all the best for Owen, and I hope he becomes a real United legend, but at the same time I acknowlege he has been prone to the odd injury and could be sidelined for some time.
Sorry for playing devils advocate!!!
hargreaves (when fit) and fletcher are the best box to box midfielders in the premiership.
Have read somewhere that the FSW says Pepe Reina will have a great number of assists this season. The dippers aren’t going to be playing long ball football are they?? Idiot.
Back to the media, I see talksport are already saying that Everton may get relegated. After 2 fucking defeats! Laughable. Darren Gough was saying Lescott is right to go to the bitters as they have more ambition than Everton. He said “Wouldn’t you want to go to a club full of THE BEST PLAYERS IN THE WORLD”. Name me one Goughy you prick. Stick to the cricket pal.
A player who has some brain and pride.
“Just watched the game. Again. A bold statement but for me Fletcherino is THE best ” box to box” midfielder in the Premiership. Has alot more to offer than Mascherano and Mikel. Better passer of the ball than Essien.”
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
He ISN’T World class player! (c) Some of the frequent visitors here.
Oh yeah! I am a star!!!!
Good evening everyone///
hopefully villa do us a favour tonight, cant see it though
Compare Owen with the shit Teve$ is coming out with . Both on and of the pitch we have the best deal .
http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/news/Manchester-United-get-a-double-disciplinary-let-off-from-the-Football-Association-article129283.html
Scott, what’s the reaction ?
Maybe they don’t fear us anymore ?
I knew from the day I got my OWEN 7 jersey, that Mikey will never disappoint us united fans. Come on Owen, I have already worn the jersey 3 times so far, show me more goals!
The Vidic incident shouldn’t even be an issue. He barely touched him. What was worse however is the way Rodellega, almost gave Webb a back hand and ran off from him.
Gibbo and Wes playing for reserves. 1-0 up. No Macheda on bench even. Anyone know if he is injured?
Corea – What did you mean exactly mate. Are you saying Fletch isn’t world class but Mascherano and Mikel are. I assume not!
MO7
ITS COMMENTS LIKE THAT THAT ARE THE PROBLEM
@ King Eric
of course he isn’t world class. how on earth he made that tackle during the Arsenal game that made him miss that final! Oh yeah! I assume your judgment of my post is pretty wrong.
Fletcher is world class! Just like Rafa Nadal is.
Owen is the best finisher in the game along with Inzaghi (he may be too old now tho’). Owen scored on Saturday with his first shot, on his wrong foot. And it was a peach. You don’t stop class. If he stays fit he’ll get 15-20+. I supported the signing at the time because even at Liverpool I knew he was the main threat. Just like Gerrard and Torres, they are the men to watch. If we are a goal down or all square, and Owen’s on the bench, yuo know he can save the day.
The other aspect of Owen is what he can bring to United off the pitch. With Giggs, Nev and Scholes likely to retire this season, we need experienced PRO’s to step up, to help the kids grow without ego’s into what Giggs is now. Owen, unlike Tevez, is just what we needed, a quiet player who couldn’t give a damn about the press or the glitz that Ronaldo loves so much. It was an inspired signing. 10+ goals and the man’s influence around the changing room for Free? inspired.
Owen’s us against the world mentality is perfect for a United #7. Ronaldo, Beckham, Cantona they all had to go through it for different reasons and it was the desire of the journo’s and opposition fans to see them fail that made us love them so much.
Owen’s right about him and Man Utd even though our reserves stuffed Hull on the last day of the season most pundits wrote us off for the title tipping Chelski or Loserfool (who have just lost again to Villa). Just like they’ve written off Owen time after time.
He’s at the perfect club to prove the buggers wrong. Just like Ronaldo did after Germany 2006, just like Becks did after France 98, just like Cantona did after Crystal Palace.
2008-09 Man Utd 19 times. Believe!
Hi Scott,
Have been reading ur site for quite a while, always have thought owen is a good striker, always a Red Devil!
@ Scott: “It’s a feeling we so frequently feel against the FA and the press.”
Anyone tell why Gerrard never got carded today?
@ King Eric: “Pepe Reina will have a great number of assists this season”
Well at least Lucas got one.
Back on point. Well impressed with Michael. If he gets 1 in every 4 appearances I’d be ok, but if he responds to the press like that after every goal, I’ll be chuffed.
PS – Bird, McDonnell, Durham, and the FA. Fuck you all, you ABU, dipper-loving cunts
As Joe Kinnear would say :
Kinnear: Which one is Simon Bird?
Bird: Me.
JK: You’re a cunt.
Gotta love Joe for that!
Delighted with the dippers tonight, rafa will be gone by xmas
Stop making me like you Owen!
It’s unnatural…
It’s like trying to iron my laundry with my foot!
Owen is a very clever lad
@corea…
that tackle in semi final was world class if you ask me…he got the ball…the referee was poor for not seeing it clearly…
beckham got send off …zidane get send off in world cup final..he was not world class then…
i’m started to think that..maybe owen IS suitable to be a red devils..haha
he has the attitude of a player who does not merely speak or brag about his own stuff but more to a player who compliment the whole team and working as part of it.good job owen!!keep it up!!
Benitez missed a chance of re-signing a wonderful player like owen…i dont know why people often criticize owen..cum on guys owen is also a human being and he has the right to take some decisions on his own so stop callin him a betrayer of liverpool or judas.even i’m a fan of liverpool..but we have to understand that he’s a player and he’s got the right to leave the club for his own career building..even we people will leave our present company incase if we get a highly paid job or a better opportunity ryt..same applies with owen..he left liverpool as he thought that he can shine better in other club and he also needs a change right, whats wrong in that??…stop criticizing him it is very stupid to insult the golden boy and hero of england football team..love you owen..god bless you!!
