It’s amazing to think that Owen Hargreaves was registered in Manchester United’s European squad for the group stages, so confident were the club that the midfielder would make his return before Christmas.
Months have flown by and Hargreaves was still out, although did get a run out for a few minutes at the end of the season, much to our relief.
However, it looks as though that happiness is to be short lived, with Hargreaves back in treatment.
“The bad news is that Owen Hargreaves is back in America seeing the specialist,” said Ferguson. “He won’t be ready for the start of the season. I don’t know when he’ll be back.”
Having a player like Owen Hargreaves fit could make all the difference to our season. When will it be time to draw a line under this one and find someone new?
As for other injuries, Anderson will be back by the end of September, Michael Owen will be back for the start of the season and Rio Ferdinand is aiming for the same return.

Man Utd News 24/7

shit one.
if a new midfielder was not a priorirty before, it must be now
When will it be time to draw a line under this and sign someone new?
Now.
I hate to say it, i wish Hargo could come back and be the player he once was, but that is impractical. And hoping for that would be foolish in my opinion. Cut ties. Thank him for his work in helping us win the Double.
This is most def not good news. A transfer now feel inevitable. The squad sill now be getting another lok at, it seems a transfer is very likely. Gutted it would have been nice to have him
I think this must be the end of him. Sad to say it but I don’t think he will be coming back.
Really sorry but he is finished. This is a fucking joke. Time to buy another midfielder. TWO years now. Sorry Owen.
For fucks sake
Well that’s a relief,but I bet some on here will still have him included in there starting eleven when forecasting starting lineups for new season.ta ta Hargo you could have saved us a shit load of money in wages.
SNEIJDER
We signed an injured player from Bayern due to stubborness on the management although the two trophies we won in 2008 was definetely worth the transfer fee in the long term this has turned out to be one of the most horrendous signings in the clubs history. The media will label him a flop alongside Kleberson and Blomquvist when it was down to injury problems and not ability. Need a replacement of similar abilty everyone can rave about the youth but who Fletcher aside is as good as Hargreaves when he was fit? Not only is Hargreaves good defensively but also good when going forward. We have players in our squad in that position who aren’t excellent at doing both.
I feel very sorry for the lad. He was a decent player that we missed last season very much.
It is a shame that he could only manage one season at United. I hope that I am wrong, but it looks like his career might be reaching premature end.
Good luck to him!!
I don’t know when he’ll be back.
dats the worst part of the statement..Evn Fergie seems to be fed up
Gutted to read this….when will Hargo ever have a pre-season…….
no hargreaves, sneijders staying at inter, every other good midfielder we will get priced out of, hmmmm wonder if its time to give the youngsters a more prominant role e.g. pogba and cleverly. not really a crisis though tbh, people taking this midfield stuff too far
Absolutely gutted for him and for us. A fit Hargreaves may have been the difference between us and the Rent Boy scum last year.
There have been so many false dawns that I hold little hope of him making any substantial recovery. Contract will be up end of this new season. May sadly be time for him to jack it in and take up something less taxing….
So very disappointing.
it is showing now united need a ball winning midfielder, not only that but carick is getting worse, scholes is 36, gibson is up and down and fletcher will need a rest now and then, cleverly’s injury has been a huge set back.
I think fergie has got all he can from the midfield that has helped win us the hatrick of titles, it is a cycle you can see this midfield’s time has come and gone for players like carrick, add scholes tends to retire in summer 2011, and hargreaves will have too retire or the club cuts their losses with a player who will reach a 2 year aniversary where he failed to play.
Lads,
We signed hargreaves with slight tendonitis in his knee which was put down to over training after breaking his leg.
Lets all remember we signed rude van nistlerooy after his cruciate so its a case of win some you loose some!
What a player we have lost! These things happen in football although he might prove us all wrong and make a come back!
However i guess the club are just looking for him to retire & them claim the insurance if any!
Really gutted for him, on his day he was a brillant midfielder, but that day has long gone, time to bring in another CM.
Fucking hell, you have to wonder if he’ll ever be ‘back’ properly. Very disappointing news.
gutted for owen
i think thats the end of his football career.
Isn’t this the last season of Hargreaves contract as well? I highly doubt we will be offering him another one. Its Jesper Blomqvist all over again, seems everytime we win the European Cup a players career ends at United.
Maybe we can take this story down from the homepage, erase it from the history of the internet and the minds & memories of all who have read it through the magic of that device in Men In Black, then we offer Bayern a trade of a “fit” Hargo + Berba for Bastien Scwheny (and maybe one or two mil) ….. Then we would be set
good to hear fergie talking about anderson, was starting to get a bit worried he was being isolated.
I give up.
Drew Vader
You know what, that would be AWESOME.
Don’t want to think like this, but it could be over for him. At United anyway. A great player on his day as it was mentioned, but where do you draw the line indeed. I feel bad for him because he seems like a good bloke.
On the other stuff, great news about Ando. I was expecting him back after October. As for Rio and Owen, brace yourselves. This is the first of at least 5 injury updates that Fergie will give us about them during the season. I hope I am wrong.
Imagine how owen himself is feeling, how frustrating would it be to always be injured and then any sign of a comeback to be knocked down again, his morale must be so low…cheers for the memories hargo – mine is his free kick against TheArse at OT, beautifull free kick which put us 2-1 up..
Horrible news.
I hope no one hates him for what happened he has no control over what happens to his body. Thank you Hargo for playing your heart out every time you had the chance I dont remember him having a single bad game
Gutted but I choose to keep the good memories. Dominating on his debut, the free kick against Arsenal, the great performance in the champions league final and that RAPEAGE of a penalty.
unf***ing believable, love owen hargreaves but this is taking the p*ss.
i feel for the lad i really do and was really looking forward to having his ‘steel’ back in midfield.
not to be though, bayern must be laughing there tits off, either way we had one magic season from him which powered us to the european cup, if we never see him again that will be enough for me and money well spent just for that one season.
still absolute f***ing shame though, hope he doesn’t give up and still hold out hope (slim i know) that he’ll return better and stronger.
come on greavesy lets have at it!
Lads it’s mr brightside against
sure it’s shit that hargo will miss the start of the season. So will our world cuppers . 3/4 good results in – a nice stable start to the season then add hargo- Rooney- hernandez-paddy – park- to straighten diffent possitions. It’s shit but with a reported 28 million pound off either out there already or an offer of an offer means united are straightening or plan to they have a fantastic squad as it stands that can hold it together till september October no doubt
game over….
Gutted for Hargo. Fucks sake, he hardly played for us. I imagine how he must be feeling atm. We need a defensive midfielder, fast. We can’t start next season without one, it’ll bite us in the ass.
Well let’s hope it’s not serious news we can only know when there is a report back from the specialist to the extent of the situation.
Absolutely gutted – I was looking forward to seeing the man back – I still hope that there is some light at the end of the tunnel…
King Eric – Hello mate. We have to write him off and get someone new in, that is the harsh reality of it. His injury record is worse than Saha’s, at least he played some part of a season after injury, Hargo has been out for a lengthy period of time now, with the exception of a cameo role away at Sunderland in the penultimate game of last season. Such a pity really cos he was awesome in first season at United – him and Anderson dominated some midfield exchanges at the big away grounds, notably Anfield and the Emirates in the 07/08 season.
Haven’t been the same without him. Scholes has aged since then, Anderson now picking up injuries so who knows how he’ll be this season, Carrick just having a bad season at the exact time he needed to step up with everyone elses injuries… Thank God for Fletcher.
September 09: Anderson scores his first goal for Man United.
September 10: The rejuvenated Anderson makes his mark for us.
If only…
@Ulster Red
Good memories last a lifetime:

costas
thanks for the link seems a lifetime away now though, even a really young pique playing that day
Well, it was always going to be a tough ask for him to come back but I was still looking forward to seeing him get a full pre-season under his belt and then coming back strongly for the new season. But unfortunately, this setback does it for me and I am really gutted to hear this news. He has been absoultely brilliant everytime he has been on the pitch in a United shirt! How we could have done with him in that UCL final against Barcelona when Fletch was suspended! We obviously cannot rely on Fletch to produce the goods everytime and what happens if he gets suspended/ injured.
But if we were to sell him, whom do we bring in as a replacement? Are there enough quality midfielders available out there who would match a fit Owen Hargreaves in ability? Some time back when the set comeback date of Hargreaves was further delayed, there was a rumour doing the rounds that Miguel Veloso of Sporting Lisbon would be coming to OT. Mick Phelan had come out in the press and had shown his admiration for him. But I wonder how good he really is..watched a bit of him in the Europa league against Everton but not much! And as far as Schweinsteiger is concerned, well first and foremost, Bayern won’t sell their prized asset. And, if they were to sell him, they would quote a ridiculous price for him and play hardball similar to the way they did with Hargreaves!
We surely need someone to replace him now!
I fucking miss Owen Hargreaves… he was gonna be like a new signing for this upcoming season. Absolutely gutted! We need to sign a ball winner.. this may sound funny but why not a cheeky bid for Lee Cattermole? Than man’s a work horse and great in the tackle.. plus he can shoot! Probably cost about 14 mil but I’d say money well spent. Just a suggestion..
Unfortunate to say the least.
I really think his career may be over. How long can you keep having ‘setbacks’ if the knees aren’t any better after 2 years when will they ever be better?
It’s sad to see such a talented footballer have his career ruined with injuries
@Ulster Red
Yeah, Vida got injured at Roma that month and Pique replaced him. I get a bit nostalgic watching that match. I think we could make a starting XI full of what ifs. Forlan, Pique and Hargo would be among them.
De Jong from Shitty would be a dynamite pickup
sad sad story…feel bad for Hargo.
but will be optimistic and say that he will be back.
I hate to admit but i think he has a slim chance to return now.
We should buy one player to replace him and not keep thinking that he will return and our situation will be better.
If the manager has decided he cant get value for spend.Or is drawing his horns in I can live with that as it may mean he is about to launch some of our outstanding young talent on the premier league this upcoming season as he famously did Beckham et al so many years ago.Chist and that Hanson is still earning a copper as a pundit.Let the young uns loose this season Sir Alec.
He’ll have to let the youngsters loose this season — what other option is there with no new signings, and only fading greats and unfortunate crocks to choose from?
Kill the fucking Gimp Glazers. Let start a fund for a hitman — I’ll put in a £100. Better than spending it on the new strip.
Hargreaves needs to retire or at the very least do a Redondo and stop accepting his wages!!
@ Bruce
We could probably get a few crack heads to have a pop at him for that 100
Hargo not making it,… i called this 12 montrhs ago… i said he’d never play agian for United… he’s one of my favourite players… and maybe the nearest thing we’ve had to replacing the KEane influence! But obv not meant to be…. so i feel we def need to reinforce in this area!! Who though??
We’ve got Pogba coming through… but too far away… for now Fletcher is our main player for breaking play up…. im just concerned we haven’t got a decent play maker in the middle…. scholes is a legend…. but we need to thinking past him,,,,, who though?
So sad. He’s a fucking great player and great lad. If key players continue to struggle with injuries and we don’t bring in some new faces we could be in for a long season.
I know its really sad and even a kick in the teeth to some
But guys he hasn’t played for 2 seasons! Fuck me if we haven’t got a trick up our sleeve after his absence then I’m sorry to say but our backroom staff have serious issues cause even if he didn’t have this latest set back did they really think he’d come back as strong as where he left off?
Oh well its sad but the silver lining might be that we will be forced to throw in Pogba who has really impressed me and in my opinion he will strive under pressure and can only get better.
Read on another forum. some guy reckons glazers have spoken to insurance and the insurance says if he retires they will recoup everything they spent on him and therefore are forcing medical staff to say he’s crocked .. that shit is laughable, and amazing, the ignorance of some anti glazer folk
Pogba too far away yet bud…. he needs more time in my opinion!! Gd Player tho!
This is ball breaking. A part of me wishes Hargo would go now but thats just frustration with this whole injury malarky. I was over the moon when we finally came to an arangement with Bayern its just sad its turned out like this. Hargreaves was a good player, versatile could cover anywhere. But I feel he’ll never play again, well certainly not for United. He’s too rusty, seems to lack confidence. To me its another Norman Whiteside scenario, a terrible injury to a fantastically gifted player.
I feel gutted.
Cheers for everything Hargo.
Oh Owen Hargreaves you are the love of my life…..
To carry on, it seems we need a defensive midfielder. I always thought Carrick was only filling the role as cover for the injured Hargreaves and has arguaby also ruined Carricks career to a degree. I cant think of anyone available at the moment who fits the bill. Im a fan of Pirlo. I realise hes 31 but after a shocker of a world cup maybe he needs pastures new. He would be a good experienced stop gap signing whilst we scour the world for Hargos replacement (who was supposed to be Keanes replacement). Maybe this will even start the ball rolling again on Rodwell or a cheap fix with Jagielka.??
I think so too mate
but sadly we might not have a choice if we do not make any signings, an injury(god forbid) to fletcher and carrick(who isn’t the most popular player) and we’d have to rely on scholes giggs and gibbo?
wow.. i cant believe this.. i was really looking forward to him playing this season and he would have been like a “new” player for us..
but its a shame.. but like many United fans.. i still have faith in his ability when he returns but its the question of when he returns that is on my mind..
i think Fergie needs to think about a replacement.. maybe Cleverly can be used more this season?
Rodrigo Possebon another option..
another saha! buy two midfielders, attacking & holding. also stricker
Fucking horrible news. I’m a huge fan of Hargo. I still go to YouTube occasionally and watch clips of him destroying Roma in that 7-1 demolition a couple of years back. I think he played on the wing that day, or came forward from right back. Anyway, fucking awesome.
But I think it’s time to draw the line. Now. Unlike some of the wankers on here, I am not going to slag off him or Fergie or anyone else. Obviously, no-one knew the extent of his injuries. And since they found out, they have done everything humanly possible to get him back. And while it may still work, I reckon now that possibility must be seen as a pure bonus. If it happens, great. Meanwhile, we need a plan to take us forward. Especially with Scholes and Giggs on their last legs.
I reckon Fletcher has progressed heaps in the last couple of years. And I think Ando may yet fulfill his promise (hoping this year will be for him like last season was for Nani). Carrick, IMHO, has gone backwards. We have some youngsters coming up. But I reckon we need someone in between youth and experience, someone who has already shown they can deliver on the promise, but who isn’t yet “past it”.
I like Sneijder and have done for a while. Long before the World Cup, anyway. I see him more in the Scholes role, than the Hargo role. I don’t know if Inter will let him go. For mine, he’s worth 30mil. But 40 or 50 or 60? I know some people would “pay anything” for certain players, and would consider it a sign of financial doom if we didn’t stump up whatever it takes. But as I’ve said before, you gotta draw the line somewhere. There has to be some point where you say, “That’s too much.” For fuck’s sake, look where Barca are! Unable to pay their players and staff last month? Fuck off.
But if we can’t get Sneijder, I still think Joe Cole is worth a look. I know he wants 100K a week, and yes, that’s too much. But he’s also on a free. And he’s 29. At that age, a two-year contract would be reasonable. And over 2 years, a sign-on bonus of 1mil is equal to 10k a week in wages up-front. I reckon 60k a week is fair, and I don’t see why anyone would argue with a 3mil sign-on bonus. That lot’s equal to 90k a week already, and the rest he can make up in performance bonuses.
I would rather have Sneijder, who’s a better player and has a few more years left in the tank. But if the only way to get him is to give that fucking clown Benitez 40 or 50mil, then screw it, go for Cole instead.
@Stateside Aussie
Errrr…..Hargo wasn’t signed when we demolished Roma 7-1.Which game are you talking about exactly.If the promise and interest in Jack Rodwell is true,then sign him now Fergie.Another player that I’ve heard a lot but never actually seen myself is Moussa Sissoko of FC Toulouse.
its over. What a player he was, just unfortunate his knees could never stand the football…
i am as good as desperate for the cause. life is unfair at times.
Some interesting points being made.
in my humble opinion if we aren’t going to buy anyone we should give youngsters a chance and have one more transitional season. the most worrying thing is that we will sell any of this talented youngsters when the right offer comes from Madrid.
I really really really want Anderson to come back and do well for us…..although we shouldn’t forget that having been out for a year, it will take him some time to get back into rhythm.
As for Hargreaves….too bad my man….but your time is up!
Sorry for triple post but i think as much as we are concerned and disillusioned at the moment we should give the guy a chance. I can’t even imagine what Owen goes thru at the moment. Yes, life is cruel. The worst possible start of the day for me. Shit.
@90+-Until We Score …
Yeah, you’re quite right. Fucked that up, didn’t I? Would it help if I told how much booze I’ve consumed in the last 20 years? No, well, worth a try… hahaha!
Memory mixed up two games. The one I meant was in April 2008, against Roma. I think the score was a miserable 1-0 … but watching the clips, it could easily have been 7 or 8 in the first 20 or 30 minutes, and Hargreaves was at the heart of most of the chances. Anyway, search youtube for “owen hargreaves – man of the week” and you should find it. Not a bad attacking game, for someone who was pigeonholed as a largely defensive player. Cheers!
Marquez would be an excellent replacement
i have honestly given up on hargreaves ever playing for us again..
He’ll be back. I put my money on it. Maybe by christmas
Big shame coz when fit he’s a dynamite player. But don’t think he’ll ever get to the same level even if he recovers. Think it’r time to put faith in the youth again because doesn’t look like fergie has the money to spend anyway.
His story is reminding me that of Jesper Blomqvist. He played his first season for us and then missed the next 2 with injuries. I think we sold him to Everton in 2001. Hargo is in the last year of his contract now isn’t he?
Looks like Valencia and Nani will miss the tour:
http://www.manutd.com/default.sps?pagegid=%7BF9E570E6%2D407E%2D44BC%2D800F%2D4A3110258114%7D&newsid=6650599
I hope both of them are fit for the Newcastle game. The tour would have helped them get some match practice.
@stateside aussie – i remember that game in 08 against Roma. Hargo played on the right wing and was indeed awesome, maybe his best game for us.
I feel so very,very sorry hargreaves,
the lad would of been a real star for united just think its never going to happen………………….sometime soon the docs will call time on him ever playing again.
you have to feel for him,
God hargreaves hurts considering how much he cost.
SHOCK!
Sign someone else, he’s never going to be fit.
Top player but theres no point!
i jus wanted to know when was the last time we signed a player who was in his absolute prime…. a top top world class player…. and he continued to perform at that level… we have either not gone after them or gotten irreversibly snubbed…. and that aint good, no sir………….
If we were willing to pay 29 million for Sneijder, then how about up to 20 for Sami Khedira?
Such a shame, he is the only player in our squad that i believe was lethal with his freekicks.
Is Sami Khedira decent…. only saw glimpses of him at WC… now this morning im reading even Real are looking at him!
Is he any better than what we’ve got? is he a DM?
I’d never even heard of him before WC
The Dan Gosling lad from Everton is available on a free. He seems quite good and can play in defence or mid field. Worth a shout, me thinks. Plus he’s free. He could be a replacement for OH
jog on Hargo, or limp on if you can manage that.
And if you have any self respect, you’ll give your ludicrous wages back to the club… those bloody Germans at Bayern must be in hysterics…
hav tears in my eyes thinkin of the arsenal freekick…..wat a player!
It was on the cards…. I think he is a wonderful player, but if we’re all being honest I think we can safely say his United days are over.
He should have been on pay as you play
@Stateside
He really was great in that game. He was everywhere. That is the game I think of too when I think about Owen Hargreaves.
Possibilities in the centre midfield:
Ageing Giggs and Scholes; Two young but bright looking Gibson and Anderson; King Fletcher and slowly fading Carrick
It is not bad.. but i would love a world class midfielder in the mix as Fergie is more and more keen on playing 3 center midfielders
Snejder is the obvious choice, too bad he doesnt want to come? any thoughts on whom we should go for?
Quite amusing to think that alot of people on here months ago wanted Modric or a Milner, now its Khadera and the like after a couple of ok games.
@Costas
That goal against Arsenal, it was worth 20mills
im all emotional watching this video
i dont know about Khedira.. he is good and he is young
we have two of those in the squad
We need someone great.. There are only a handful of possibilities Snejder, Basti, Farbregas (make a 45m pound offer that Arsenal cant refuse and Barcelona cant match) anyone else?
Who are we going to sign????
@King Eric
Spot on mate, yesterday modric, today ozil, who tomorrow? I just hope Pedersen doesn’t regain any form because if I here on here United should sign Pedersen they’ll be a fucking murder. Now Vaz Te, thats another thing lol.
@JohnMeaney
http://eurorivals.net/squad/man-utd.html
dont worry brother
@Muggaz. Re your comment to Hargo, “if you have any self respect, you’ll give your ludicrous wages back to the club”
Personally, I think you’re right out of order. This wasn’t some sort of conspiracy by hargreaves to defraud our great club. He was assessed by our doctors but clearly no-one understood the extent of the injury. Well guess what: injuries can be like that, especially injuries involving muscles, ligaments and tendons.
The same goes for your sarcasm about jogging on or limping on if he can manage that. We’re not talking about recovering to a normal degree of mobility and strength, which is what a normal person would expect. We’re talking about recovering to a level of mobility and strength necessary to succeed at the highest levels of professional sport. The question isn’t whether he can walk, limp jog or run. The question is whether he can pound the fucking grass, and leap around and tackle and be tackled, and compete against some of the best athletes in the world, for 90 minutes at a time, week after week.
As far as I can tell, the lad has done everything possible to get himself back in shape. Most people, even most top athletes, would have thrown in the towel long ago. I’m not 100% sure how insurance works, but I imagine that at pretty much any point in this lengthy saga, either he or the club could have simply pulled the plug and written the claim form. So pull your fucking head in, pal.
I feel incredibly sorry for the guy. If this really is a career-ender, what a kick in the nuts it must be. And even if he can come back, it has still stolen a couple of his best years. And I feel gutted for the club too, since it was always obvious that SAF placed enormous store in Hargo. Neither of them would have persevered with this, otherwise.
@Stateside Aussie
I agree about Hargo. Plus, he did get injured playing or trying to play for us, so it works both ways. Plus, if there were injury problems before he signed, our medical exams would have picked up on them and he could have made a deal simiral to Owen’s.
Other people have ripped off our club in far worst ways than Hargreaves.
Bastian Schweinsteiger.
Sign the best midfielder in the world cup.
this guy was involved in everything for germany
Bastian Schweinsteiger.
As far as I am aware Hargreaves wages shouldn’t be bone of contention. Manchester United would have got insurance against injuries etc and the insurers are paying Hargreaves wages not Manchester United (or as the fans like to think – them).
Heres a thing of interest have you heard that Barcelona are broke and have asked Banks for investment (125 million pounds) to pay wages etc.
And you think we’re in trouble. It was nice of them to blaze Unicef across their shirts but the person in charge of finances at Barca must be the biggest plank ever.
unfortunately, he`s done
@ghtt
the link u gave 4 the squad has foster in it?wasnt he sold to birmingham?
More than that of hargo i am dissapointed that ando wont be available for the start of the seoson.now its no point in waiting for hargo to return.Fegie should sign someone.
Really bad news about OH. ah well the status quo remains the same so i guess we shouldn’t be predicting doom and gloom so much. its not as if he played preseason or any type of football last season.
Just went through the United official site and saw some pictures of the lad at carrington and i get the feeling that United is going to look and feel quite different this season, no way in hell SAF is going to allow this season start like the last. . check out these photos and list of players going on tour, don’t be surprised to see a few young guns starting for us this season

Seen the tour party,Great looking forward to seeing Fabio taking Evra’s place and Eikram ,Carricks plus Obertan getting a proper opportunity to shine and he will.Pity King is’nt included but its looking good.
Travelling squad:
Edwin van der Sar, Tomasz Kuszczak, Paul Scholes, Ryan Giggs, Dimitar Berbatov, John O’Shea, Wes Brown, Rafael, Jonny Evans, Darren Fletcher, Darron Gibson, Chris Smalling, Nani, Fabio, Federico Macheda, Danny Welbeck, Javier Hernandez (will join in Houston on 27 July), Mame Biram Diouf, Tom Cleverley, Ritchie De Laet, Corry Evans, Ben Amos, Gabriel Obertan.
Nice to see Nani there, but Antonio didn’t make it. Ren Nev misses out too after taking a knock. Nice to see that one week into the season we are picking up right were we left off last May!
@Slim
It also has to do with the WC players taking a break as well as having 4 first team players out with injury. I agree that SAF must now allow the season to start off like the last one did. We have to keep our core fit.
This is getting really tired…
Lad must be absolutely gutted
@ Costas
Yup, i just think that a few new faces will feature for United this season, transfers or not, these guys need to play or they’ll just become furniture
Looking forward to see Cleverly, obertan,, de laet, diouf and hernandez play. who knows a couple of jems could be unearthed
@Slim
Yeah I agree. Depending on the squad limit some of them might leave on a loan. I have a feeling that one of the striker will leave like that. Remember that we also have Danny Welbeck. I wonder when he will be back.
It would be nice if some of these players impressed the manager so much that they forced his hand into playing them against Newcastle. Haven’t seen that in a long time.
Think Hargo can take a mean free kick ?Well so can Eikrom , ugly fucker but quality.
If Hargo doesn’t come back it’s nothing short of a tragedy. Not like a life or death one, but still, what a horrible, horrible loss to the sport of such a world class talent.
Not trying to be pessimistic but every pre season we take some kids on tour who then go onto rarely feature. Although this does give them the opportunity to impress the coaches and stake a claim for a place in the team. Its horrible to see that we have many players missing through injury and the season hasn’t started. The Valencia injury wasn’t really reported on to the same extent as the others and how can Michael Owen still be out!
@Notorious
It’s not surprising when you consider how injury prone some of these players are. Owen was always 50-50 to make that trip though. The Valencia injury is a mystery. Is it the same thing that kept him out of the last 2 league games? No one has given a report on it.
We were told Kiko and Welbeck would get there chance last season and they rarely featured, lets hope some of our kids get a run out this term.
Gutted. I respect the tradition of the Club to stand by injured players, but I think we’ll be needing to bring in a new midfielder soon and im sure we will. Unless of course one of our youngesters impresses, hopefully this means our lads will get the opportunity. Alec will be telling them that, its much better practice to promote internally and we have some talent waiting in the wings for sure. Hope Owen at least manages some playing time in what could be his final Season. Gutted, because he is a beast when fit.

We were told Kiko and Welbeck would get there chance last season and they rarely featured, lets hope some of our kids get a run out this term.
Agreed. We tried to spend some money on a quality player, but if nothing happens before kick off lets plough on with what we’ve got, which is a strong team (when not decimated with injuries)
Gary Neville is the latest injury guys…. out of all tour games….
This is turning into a nightmare….
Obviously that’s the end of it..I’m really gutted coz he’s exactly what we need..Maybe it’s time to move on and start searching for another midfielder …By the way aren’t we starting the league with same numbers of absences as the end of last year????/ really worried.
We could use Valencia in an offensive midfield role behind Rooney in a 4-2-3-1 Buy Veloso for the defensive midfield role. Veloso are much of the same type of player as Alonso and will fit perfect in front of our defence together with Fletcher. I really think we need to spend money this year and I really hope we will go for the excellent 21 year old Mezut Özil. He has been excellent for Germany, One of the absolute best players in the WC. He could switch with Valencia in that offensive midfield role or play down the left. The reason i want Valencia to play in the middle behind Rooney is Nani. Nani is the best right winger at the club and he should start every match possible in that possition. I think Nani and Valencia together with Özil on the left could make plenty of space for Rooney.
I love Giggs, Scholes and Neville, but they are 36-38 years old and we must prepare for a new era. I dont think Carrick, Berbatov and Gibson are the right players to carry this team on. Just my opinion, I trust Sir Alex allways.
So heres are my “dreamteam”
Van Der Sar(maybe Julio Cesar?)
Rafael-Rio-Vidic-Evra (Fabio gonna be great, left winger maybe?)
Veloso-Fletcher
Nani-Valencia-Özil
Rooney(Hernandez)
Looking forward to see players like Cleverley, Macheda continue their progress and maybe King and Pogba could get some matches to…
opinions?
sorry for my poor english writing…
I wouldn’t write Hargreaves off yet. We don’t know exactly whats wrong with him and when you are coming back from such a long time out you are prone to picking up other injuries. We saw it with both Ole and with Neville after their long layoffs which saw them break down with new injuries as they were either nearing a comeback or were in the early stages of it. Both got through that stage to make good contributions
@Wakey
Thank you! Seems like everybody else have already forgotten about the United* mantra believe! Owen is a tough lad and will bounce back. My only concern about him is what’s going on in his head. If he stops believing in himself he is truly fcuked. But on the other hand he is North American and no matter what what you think about them but the do have a spirit of ” I can do whatever I can as long as I believe” what makes them never give up (as we saw in the world cup). So as fans we should stand behind him! After all, Sir Matt Busby did not give up after Munich.
