Most Important Man At United Is The Manager

Sir Alex Ferguson has reiterated his opinion that no one is more important at the club than him.

The most recent example came a few weeks ago when the manager fined our top earner, Wayne Rooney, and dropped him from the squad after coming to Carrington unfit to train following an evening out.

“I said it to the directors 15 years ago, maybe more than 15 years ago: You have to remember that the most important person at Manchester United is the manager,” said Ferguson. “The minute a footballer becomes more important than the manager, your club is dead – the history of this club goes down the drain. I am the most important man at Manchester United. It has to be that way.”

Indeed you are boss and will always be. I hope people at Chelsea read that

  2. Costas says:

    That’s ambitious. ;)

  3. Costas says:

Not plenty of updates on the injury front by the way. Just that Fergie is hopeful 2-3 players will train ahead of the game tomorrow. Just a wild guess, but I assume he’s talking about Carrick, Rooney and Jones. No word on Nani.

  4. bayoRed says:

In a recent interview Pique also almost gave away as much when comparing the roles of SAF with those of Pep @ Barcelona. He implied that Sir Alex is a more complete manager of the club than Pep who does more coaching duties than management. It means UTD really need to think hard when replacing the Boss.

How are you my Lebanese King?

  14. BelfastRed says:

Fergie laying it on the line from Day 1, he’s effectively saying I’m top dog and always will be. And he has stood by that concept from the start for the great and good of Man Utd Yeah you can argue that its egotistical in sum way but this man has sacraficed his life to bring us success. The man is a machine wit a serious ruthless streak but he’s not gonna let anyone get in the way of harmony at the club. A true legend of the modern game.

Sir Alex said at his Carrington press conference today:
“I can’t give you much of an update on injuries. Hopefully we’ll have two or three training this morning and we’ll be better by tomorrow. It is not the best situation for us.”

    On the match, he said:
“I always think home draws make you favourite. It’s a massive game for both clubs. There’s a tremendous profile around it. Steven Gerrard said it’s the responsibility of the players to behave properly and I expect my players to. And also the fans. Both sets of fans need to make sure we’re talking about the game and nothing else.”

On how to combat an expected hostile atmosphere:
“You just have to concentrate on the game. That’s what you have to do, just try and play your game. That helps. I think both sets of players are aware of that.” (Nick Coppack)

There was also high praise for Danny Welbeck and the boss commented on his journey from boy to man: “When he was 16 he had problems with his knees because he was growing. Then he had some thigh problems. It was just a matter of Danny developing into a man. He has a great physique about him now but I think there’s still more to come. I don’t think he’s finished.”

    It’s not different.

    Good Afternoon ROM!

That’s right Sir Alex. This what I keep highlighting to everyone when talking about what Manchester United is all about. When I was initially introducing my dad to United and telling him about the way SAF has given the boot to everyone from McGrath to Stam to Beckham to RVN to Keane, he was literally shocked. I told him that’s the way it is. The moment anyone threatens Sir Alex’s superiority in the club hierarchy, he no longer deserves to be a United player to me. Sir Alex is the boss and always will be. Any player or fan who doesn’t see it that way can go shit drown the drain for all I care.

Also in the same vein, I find it really funny when people think Rooney’s crew got one over the master last year in the negotiations wherein SAF had to let down on his principles to make Rooney stay which he hasn’t done in the past. The only difference between Rooney and other contract negotiations which have had similar problems like Rio/Keane is that Wayne’s issues went public. However, contrary to popular opinion, Sir Alex reigned supreme with his brilliantly manipulative interview which essentially forced Rooney’s hand. People don’t realize just how deftly SAF manipulated everyone involved to have his way during that. Yes, you could feel the pain in his voice and I felt hurt for sure. But that was Sir Alex Ferguson’s way of letting everyone know who’s the boss.

And each time I type something like that, I realize there’s only a few more years wherein I can type like that and that gets my bowel moving.

Thanks buddy. Stomach is doing alright I guess. I am on medications and an oil-less diet. Getting a 2nd opinion tomorrow from a doctor suggest by my family doctor. So, we’ll have to see how it goes and take it from there. Surgery is the last option at the moment, only if multiple doctors suggest it is necessary.

  28. zelh says:

fuck me how depleted is our squad? Do we have even 11 men for Saturday?

  29. PLT says:

I heard Nani might be out for as long as 2 months with ligament damage, but it could just be a load of rubbish. Even if the likes of Rooney aren’t fit, Chicharito will be absolutely desperate for some time on the pitch and I’d like to think he’ll cause the scousers as many problems as Rooney anyway. They’re not that great defensively and Hernandez is better than anyone at getting in behind them to poach a goal or two.

  30. zelh says:

PLT – Nani could be out for 3-4 weeks. But I have to say he wasn’t at his best if you exclude the arsenal game. His decision-making was really poor in the last games.
This might help him to regain some power.

I’d play Fabio infront of Evra.

  31. gaz says:

    @CedarsDevil

It was quality that one! LOL!

  32. Balaji Sivaraman says:

    Morning King Eric!

Cheers for the wishes Cedars. Will keep ROM updated though I have to say that it isn’t anything close to serious but definitely a pain in the ass as far as my health goes. :)

zelh, I was saying the same thing to my dad yesterday. I told him we might have to get Sir Alex to play striker at some point during the game.

That is one of the reasons why I am surprised some of our lot are a bit critical of the way we’re progressing right now. If you look at Physio Room, we are top of the list with injuries in double figures whereas City have exactly zero major injuries. Yet there is only 3 points separating the two sides with a lot of dubious refereeing decisions going City’s way in many matches. To me, that is most certainly progress in terms of our overall squad depth. Though it is going to certainly be difficult if we don’t get a few players back, IF Sir Alex can lead us to the 20th this season, I would see it as his greatest success.

As far as whether our primary XI can compete with the world’s best in the CL, I think that can be answered only when we have our main players playing together throughout the season like the early part of this one. Until then, I don’t think it is fair to criticize Sir Alex’s thought process regarding the direction in which our squad is heading.

found this on a Korean website will not say anything more on the matter

Most of Koreans also know that the fans of Manchester United tried to cheer Korean player, Ji Sung Park. But they could use something positive such as our national flag, our patriots, Kimchi, great achievement the miracle of Han River to represent Korea. However, they used dog meat and they compare with the culture of Liverpool, eating mouse. By comparing with our culture, they criticize Liverpool fans. It shows that they made fun of our culture, too. Though it was for cheering Ji Sung Park and the victory of Manchester United, they should not make fun of our country’s culture and they should have attitude to respect the uniqueness of other culture.

  38. Paul Parker says:

Funny, I was thinking about the original quote the other day. Some people (with the help of the press) took that sentiment the wrong way at the time – as if Alex was being a complete megalomanic – but you only need look at the growing influence of big money and arch-agents and the increase in player power to see that he was spot on all along. The manager of any Club HAS to be the most important person, and they have to be as ruthless as a dictator, otherwise your dressing room becomes a parliament and it all goes tits up. Manchester United would do well to remember that the Alex Ferguson model of management is the driving force behind our modern success.

@Zelh – Disagree on Fabio mate, how much football has he played this side of last summer anyway? Evra has to start the match at LB, he’s fit, he’s in the best form of this season, he’s our captain and funnily enough he’s our best LB. I know some are worried about the atmosphere, but do you think the Scousers are gonna shower Fabio with rose petals? They’ll be trying to get him sent off as soon as the whistle blows. Maybe I’d expect Alex to “rest” Evra if we had a senior LB to cover this one match, but I can’t see the manager sending in a (albeit talented) kid to face the Anfield backlash on the Frenchman’s behalf.

Captain Evra has to start imo. Matches like tomorrow are what players like him live for.

  39. sheppertonni says:

Sir Alex keeping his cards close to his chest, Im sure they’ll be some suprise tomorrow on the injury front. also no press confrence from the dippers today.

  41. Dave Mack says:

Fergie went further in the interview and yet again praised the owners saying they have always supported him and never once interferred. He wouldn’t have it any other way. (So much for those that say he’s their puppet!!)

@Balaji’reflux generator back to the future mobil’ : Good to see ur about,ayurved/siddah bro, no need surgery. But if u insist , i can do it for u! FOC.

    Be cool dude.

Ws nice to see that Darren Fletcher has become a coach with the reserves, working under Warren Joyce.
He put the team thru thier paces yesterday before the game against newcastle.

Good to hear Tunni cud sign a 3 year contract.

The word on Redcafe yesterday , was strange, that morrision cud be part of the squad for tommorow.
    I think Pogba cud be.

  43. smartalex says:

Crawley Town manager Steve Evans says:
“For me, it’s Fergie 1-0 Evans. He scored with a breakaway goal, we didn’t.”

“I want to go back and take him on. He played us a huge compliment when we played Wrexham the Tuesday before that game, he watched us and by his own words, that made him field players like Wayne Rooney. For me he is the godfather of all managers everyone wants to challenge him.”

  44. Dave Malaysia says:

The people who believe Fergis is a puppet, have no clue to the man or basic logic of responsibility.

Obsessed with hate they never open thier eyes and minds to the actual reality.

While everyone played thier roles, from MUST to Manchester Education Commitee ,time to adjust
    push in the right direction.

  45. Legend22 says:

yeh i think pogba played the first half of the reserves game last night and came off at the break so he could be in the squad..

another great performance from davide petrucci last night.. scored two goals.. one an absolute screamer! and also set up a couple.. brilliant prospect.. was always rated higher than macheda when they both arrived and hea starting to show why

  46. Paul Parker says:

@Parryheid – ah my bad. Cheers.

@Zelh – sorry mate blogging in a rush! If Nani isn’t there on the Left and Young still isn’t back to go head to head with Henderson then I’d agree mate, lol, Fabio on the Left Wing would be the best bet. Didn’t do too badly in midfield v Arsenal when the twins started, did he?

  47. smartalex says:

    Sir Alex said:
“Our fans were terrific there this season. The issue of clubs reducing the number of tickets for our supporters has been going on for quite a while now. It has become a convenient way of selling their hospitality. But the stewards have a difficult enough job as it is. We should be helping.”

    Also, Sir Alex twice said:
“We have a few hoping to be training this morning. I have no update really.”

  48. WillieRedNut says:

Dave Mack – Seems you’re looking for an argument mate? No one on here in recent times has suggested that Fergie is a puppet. If people want to take on board what Must and Imusa are saying, then that’s their right. You have the right to disagree with them.

  52. Costas says:

At least Fergie could have given an update on Nani. If he doesn’t feature tomorrow, how will we know how long he’s out for? Maybe our medical team is still trying to figure out what’s wrong with him.

  53. WillieRedNut says:

If Fergie can’t give you any update on the injuries, says a hell of alot!

smartalex – Your agreement has been noted. I’ll agree to disagree on your agreement!

  55. iced earth says:

it seems that sir alex will not go for new faces this month, even with 12 of his senior player injured,i fear that the problem of injuries will cost us,but fergie knows best, maybe the owners don t give him the money he need to bring a top player,if sir alex wasn t our manager, for sure we will not win trophy with injury hit team like ours, but thanks god,he is our manager,
think de gea will play canat anfiled,he will have the chance to prove himself, also hope for chicharito to start he always score agains liver..,
1-3 to us, valencia chicharito wellbek

  56. Red Nation says:

Valencia vs Jose Enrique, its always a 1-sided battle even at newcastle Jose got off on top.

If Carrick doesnt play, we’re in for a tough one there, Giggs and Scholes cant hold their own, even with Jones there who is likely to get injured, not play or get outclassed by Adam & Gerrard. Basically

Evans was great vs Arsenal keept it up son, while Rafael will need his head on tightly to take on the diver Downing. Smalling can do a job on Durk Kuijt or Carol no worries.

Hopefully Anderson doesn;t play and Henderson does so its a bit easier for us. We need dog chewing 2Park on aswell, Hernandez is also going to be one to watch.

    Hopefully Liverpool field;

    Reina,
    Jonson, Carrashite, Skrtel, Enrique,
    Maxi,Henderson,Gerrard,Adam,Dowing
    Kuijt / Carol

  57. WillieRedNut says:

  60. Red Nation says:

Good team WRN. Combats the 3-man midfield, has width with Park, also has workrate in Berba,Javier Pak and Antonio. But what about Daniel Welbeck.

  61. Amar B says:

In terms of the upcoming game, I don’t think Sir Alex or Roone are the most important.

Sir Alex said: “We were always aware of Danny Welbeck’s ability. The issue with him now is addressing the physical side. When he was 16 he had problems with his knees because he was growing, then he had some thigh problems. It was nothing serious, just a matter of waiting for Danny to develop into a man, which we are seeing the signs of now. He has a great physique but there is still more to come. Our stats show there’s still a bit to do before he becomes a complete adult.”

“He has a good attitude, although he should have, he’s a young player with an opportunity at Manchester United. That’s one of the reasons you pick these players, because they show their temperament as they come through the youth programmes and the reserves. I am always confident about their temperament, their attitude to the game and their enthusiasm to play.”

“In terms of judging young players, I don’t think we’ve ever failed in that respect.”

  64. WillieRedNut says:

Park has to play imo. Big game player. Need his work rate. Has a habit of scoring in these games as well. Ideally, you’d like to rest Carrick and Evra. Who’ve played non stop football. We’re not in a position to do that though.

  65. israel says:

Some cunt of an economics analyst on BBC News 24 just tried to equate the bonus given to the boss of RBS to the wages of football players & named our club. The fact that RBS is 87% publicly owned and was rescued by our tax monies has nothing to do with what we play our players.

  67. WillieRedNut says:

Costas – Swelling must not of subsided. Only thing I can think of….

  68. smartalex says:

“I’ve never seen it work, a player come in January, sign for big money and settle before the start of next season,” Gary Neville told BBC Radio Manchester.

“To go into the market in January you never get full value, people think you’re desperate so ask for more. He’s [Sir Alex] never been one to panic. You’re signing a player now and he needs to get used to the club. Potentially if he’s coming from abroad you need to get used to a new league. You never quite get the players you want as all the top teams want to keep the best players.”

  69. Costas says:

Maybe so willie. It’s just that when Beckham, Rooney or Neville had similar injuries, it didn’t take more than 1-2 days to figure out what was up.

Anyway, hard to predict how we are going to line up tomorrow. I was hoping Anderson would be fit again, but according to manutd.com he’s still injured. As terrifying as a midfield duo of Scholes-Giggs looks like, I’d take it if it meant resting Carrick.

  70. smartalex says:

    Terrifying for who, Costas?

  71. FletchTHEMAN says:

After this is all said and done, I woud like to be england manager.

Why Yes Jeff, I do think I can be entrusted to look after the good name of english seniors. Why would you have any doubts?

  72. Costas says:

    @smartalex

As much as it pains me, I meant for us. It’s a very soft combination for a game of this magnitude and considering how Liverpool play. I agree with willie that park has to play. And hopefully he’ll play in a 3 man midfield.

  78. smartalex says:

    Costas

I knew you meant that, and I feel your pain.

It’s not beyond the realms of possibility that a midfield duo of Scholes-Giggs terrify Liverpool.
    They well might.

That said, I too belief that an industrious, durable midfield may better serve the need to counter Liverpool’s likely strong-arm tactics. We miss Darren Fletcher!

Park may well start. I’m not even trying to work out the likely team, too many unknowns!
My view is that Berba is first on the sheet; then an available back four, then the keeper.
The other 5 will be picked by lucky draw from those that pitch uninjured on Saturday!

Racism is ever growing in sport and in Britain just look at the growth of BNP and EDL in the last 5 years.
If Manchester Utd like Chelsea or Liverpool condoned racist abuse I would stop supporting and watching football as a whole because it has gone to the dogs if racism is still present despite the contributions of lads like Pele,Henry,Ronaldinho,Eto’o,Drogba, Roger Mila etc.

I hope Evra scores on SAT and Anton Ferdy does a bridge and puts in a brave performance.

  86. Mikekelly12 says:

Willie me old mucker, how is it pal? Sir Alex misjudged his comment, he isn’t just the most important person at the club, he’s probably THE most important man in FOOTBALL. Ask anybody who holds any respect in football and they’ll tell you the same! Sir Alex, my biggest regret will always be my inability to pay you back all the truly great moments you’ve given to me. I love you unresevedly!

  87. King Eric says:

Red Nation – I very much doubt Giggs OR Scholes would get outclassed by Adam mate. I am just glad Lucas aint playing. You may laugh but he has been excellent in the big games till his injury. Henderson and Adam do not concern me in the least.

Petrucci is looking top drawer at present.

Paul Parker – Hey up pal. You aint the only one who misinterpreted Zehl’s comment about Fabio playing infront of Evra. I didnt think he meant literally but replacing him!!

  88. King Eric says:

TonyBee – Hello mate. Oooh. Tough one. Pogba looks the best at the minute but reckon Tunni will become a real driving force. Morrison for me at present is out of the equation. Aint been in reserve squad for time and hasnt played a match in months. All three? Petrucci could be the one who trumps them all though!!

  89. King Eric says:

ricky – Ravel at anfield? Will he fuck pal

“I don’t know when the last time was, but we know where we’re going. Maybe we’ve forgotten the route because we’ve not been there for a while, but I’m sure the coach driver will remember”

    ROFL :P

  96. Mikekelly12 says:

    Off topic
Liverpool FC never EVER fail to show their lack of class and irresponsibility! LFC have chosen the day before one of the most volatile matches in recent years to publish a “choose your favourite Suarez moment of his Liverpool career” they are using the fact that its coming up to a year at the club, but that isn’t until next week so why not wait? I realise they’ve got fuck all exciting to talk about but come on, are they fucking seriously retarded?? Darren Can brought it to my attention on twitter and I’ll leave it to your imagination the responses he got from dipper fans…. Fucking sickening cunts who have been completely blinded to the facts. For that Liverpool and Dalglish have a lot to answer for!!! Classless cunts, I really hope we take them to the fucking cleaners tomorrow!!

  97. WillieRedNut says:

We’ve won 3 out of the last 5? Lets hope it’s 4 out of 6! feeling Hernandez could be the player to take us through. He’s due a goal. If he starts, of course. Need to end the anfield hoodoo!

  98. Sandeep1878 says:

    Hello King Eric, Willie, Mike..

cant wait for the game :)

    fucking 20 hours to go…

  99. Costas says:

    @smartalex

I also think Berba might start. I’d like to see Rooney rested in this game, so he would be my pick to replace him. But it will all depend on tactics. 4-5-1 doesn’t suit Berbatov. A partnership with Hernandez is more likely.

yup we have won 3 outta last 5..

and lets hope we end the hoodoo as i said, its about time we come out winners in this game…

  102. WillieRedNut says:

Durham saying Evra should not play tomorrow. Not gonna happen ginger flaps! Just to piss the scouse hordes off, I hope he scores! YSB

  103. Mikekelly12 says:

Evening Sandeep. Hope you’re well pal. Those dippers have really fired me up for this one!!! Cunting sick fucking fan twats. The famous Anfield atmosphere?? Fuck off, the bitters out sung you this week and they only took 10 fans with them who had laryngitis!!!

  104. Sandeep1878 says:

    Clayton..

I feel off from my chair after half reading ur post :D excellent

  105. Red Nation says:

    King Eric –
True that Adam cannot outclass Giggs or Scholes I take it back, he lacks class as a human quality, anyways on the day Liverpool are favourites to win the midfield battle unless Carrick plays, Cleverley and Jones would be great for this game but neither are fit enough at the moment. Lucas I agree is a quality midfielder, he started off poor but since last season (2nd half) he has doubled in value and ability. Against Utd he always performs well. I rate the lad highly so its good he’s out.

Lets Hope Henderson,Maxi,Carol,Downing,Jonson and Carrashite all play, they’ll drag down the quality of Adam,Kuijt, Agger,Enrique & possibly that “only penalty scoring” Steven Gerrerd.

Note* That Limpoo have been poor all season at Anfailed, so this is our best opportunity for a hit and run. Lol.

Stevie G…BH will defo score a penalty against us or a dodgy free kick, the refs love him. Personally I would love a replay with Suarez on the pitch being destroyed by the silent abuse at OT ( fucking tourist, glory hunters and Londoners fill the stadium these days, the real support is at stretford end)

  106. Dela says:

I’m thinking tomorrow will be our pea shooters’ day. Two appearances at Anfield since he came to the Premier League, scored in both. That and Antonio bombing it down the wing to provide service to the forwards (and hopefully have a few shots himself… that lad needs to recognize his own ability to go all the way like Nani) and I really don’t see us not scoring. Bellamy is their only threat up front, and Stephen Gerrard’s remarkable ability to always get set pieces against us is another possibility, but overall we’re by far more dangerous to them.

    BULLING for it!!

Who put the ball in the scousers net?..
Who put the ball in the scousers net?..
Who put the ball in the scousers net?..
    JAV-I-ER HER-NAN-DEZ!!!

    Let’s hope anyway :P

  107. Mikekelly12 says:

    Durham is a cunt!!

  108. Sandeep1878 says:

    a Very good evening Mike,

I m fine and hope the same with you pal.

just started with RUM and ROM :P

and yeah bring on the dippers and our 12th men are ready to fire up our lads..

  109. Costas says:

If Hernandez scores tomorrow, he’ll become the 3rd player after Charlton and Cole to score in 3 games at Analfield. Only he will have done it within 10 months.

  110. Mes says:

To be honest lads, I’m more worried about injuries than the result tomorrow. I know it’s the dole scum and we always wanna beat the twunts but I’d take a loss but no injuries and to shut the smug pseudo rich twats at Wastelands up by winning the league any fuckin day o’ the week.

The longer Siddy’s ridiculous buying of results goes the more I feel this would be the greatest of all if we take it off ‘em.

And if we do, we should replace the year ticker banner with one that simply says “ETERNAL SHAME”

  111. Sandeep1878 says:

Just imagine Danny and Chicha upfront..

fucking classy future awaits us…This is Manchester United..Not Arrogant, Just better

  113. WillieRedNut says:

  114. Sandeep1878 says:

That would an incredible achievement by our Mexican sniper..

    Lets hope its tomorrow!!

How have u been pal? weekend started? The Cuban cigar and babes eh? :P

  115. WillieRedNut says:

gaz – You haven’t seen Kings in action then? He loves that word! Or KE too.

  116. Sandeep1878 says:

    Willie,

Yup its time!! because i want that cunt’s winning goal to be replaced by a proper UNITED player..

you see what i mean :)

I have a feeling we will play 5 in midfield tomorrow..Rooney in there if he is fit

  117. Costas says:

Edwin, Rio, Vida, Ronaldo, Hargreaves, Anderson and Tevez won’t be there tomorrow, but there are still some survivors from that last win at the shit hole. Evra, Giggs and Mark Halsey.

    @Sandeep

Hi mate. Hasn’t been an eventful week, lol. Just trying to prepare myself for an exam next week. Hoping the game tomorrow will give me something to smiule about. What about you?

  118. slim says:

  119. Sandeep1878 says:

  125. 12 cantonas says:

thats for sure sir alex is the most important man in the club and any manager will come after sir alex must be the same…we can see that any club give the priority to the players or the stars and put the manager behinde them (the players) will fail badly

  126. Vilhelm28 says:

Meaning he also is the one person responsible as well.
