Jose Mourinho has given an exclusive interview with United We Stand, a Manchester United fanzine, where he has discussed his hopes of staying at United and strengthening his relationship with the fans.
I have a three-year contract. I cannot ask for more at the moment. But if I was successful in this moment I would already be asking Ed Woodward to give me another contract because I want to stay.
I want to stay here. It’s a club where I can achieve big things, where I need a little bit of time. I think the three years are enough [to bring success]. I’m not asking for more, but I’d like to stay for a long time. Man United will get rid of me when they want, not when I want because I don’t want to leave.
The support is fantastic. I love the home matches and I have huge respect for the people who travel away. I cannot ask for any more from fans.
When offered a seat on a bus with United’s travelling fans back to Manchester the next time he gets a touchline ban, Mourinho has accepted the invitation, but wants to take up the offer in different circumstances.
Let’s do that not because I’m punished, let’s do that after we are crowned champions in an away game. Then I’ll come back with you rather than with the team.
