Following two years of Louis van Gaal, where defensive and possession obsessed football was drilled in to the players, Jose Mourinho has talked about the struggles in reprogramming the players. Our manager knows that attacking football is in United’s DNA and that’s the style he wasn’t to make sure his team plays.

That is one of the parts of my job; I am here to build a future. I am here to build a future with a certain DNA and style – that is one of the items, but there are others. Some other items are also related to football results, football objectives and targets. So I wouldn’t be happy with just that.

I demand a lot from myself, from the people who work with me and from the players. Equally, I like the club to demand a lot from me, so I cannot say that I would be happy with just that one item.

This is England and I think every club knows that it will be difficult to finish in the top four because there are six or seven clubs with the same objectives. It is easy to forget though that I went to Real Madrid they were 25 years without a Spanish Cup, 12 years without a Champions League quarter-final and also lots of years without a championship. This was hard for me. Similarly, Inter [Milan] had 50 years without the Champions League, which was hard, so this is nothing new for me – I find it very enjoyable.
