Jose Mourinho has sung the praises of Paul Pogba following Manchester United’s 4-1 win over Fenerbahce. Pogba put in a great shift and scored two goals, one from the penalty spot and the other a screamer from outside the box, on the back of some average performances in the league.

Mourinho has mocked his critics who have been ready to write him off after just a handful of appearances following his £89m move from Juventus.

Two days ago he was the worst player in the Premier League and 48 hours later he is phenomenal. He needs time. I was in Italy, I managed in Italy, I know Italian football, I know the characteristics, the pace and the intensity, and to be in Italy for four or five years and then come back to the Premier League I was not expecting that, in a click of fingers, that intensity. Even the top players need time.

But I’m very happy with the performance today, because he gave us what we needed, Michael gave us the balance, he gave us the dynamic, the other four players who played in front of them were good, so I’m happy.
