My 10 Oberservations As A Drunkard

Before I write this, let me admit it’s almost 3am and I’m very drunk. It’s Halloween, I look like a zombie, and I’ve been talking about United all evening.

In my drunkard status I have settled on several points of view:

1. Dimitar Berbatov is a world class player.
2. Antonio Valencia has the makings of a great United winger.
3. Wes Brown should be in the team whenever fit, as right back or a central defender.
4. Darren Fletcher has been sorely missed and I hope he starts next week in Europe ahead of the Chelsea game.
5. Jamie Carragher (Fergie’s number one fan) has been guilty of three professional fouls and has been red carded for one.
6. After slating him on the blog, Rio should be praised for his last minute snub of the Manchester première of his film – clearly the negative press he received has made him get his priorities in order.
7. Chelsea are scoring for fun so Fergie has a headache when picking his defensive line. (Maybe Wes, Rio, Vidic, Evra is best?)
8. Fabregas scored a fabulous goal against Spurs and Anderson should strive for the same if his song should ring true.
9. Phil Brown should get sacked in the morning.
10. United are going to win the league.

  5. Kevos says:

    lol good stuff scott

and not a typo in sight, imo the juries still out on berba being what he was brought in for, sure he’s world class but he will need to finish a few more of the chances created, as for anderson shooting lol, that same jury is out.

  6. Rajiv Toolaseeram says:

1,2,5 & 9 are a bit farfetched! We definitely need to up our game to win all trophies!!!

  7. lazar0608 says:

my observation as a drunkard: 04:47 here, i COMPLETELY AGREE WITH YOU MATE. BERBATOV IS ONE OF THE BEST, AND AGREE WITH THE REST TOO

  8. rooninho says:

    # 4 is the crucial point. fletch needs to get some match fitness back and needs to play at least 60 minutes against cska moscow. manchester united desperately need him for chelsea, but how effective will he be coming in cold after a long layoff?

i know its early but point #10 (title 19) might not happen if point#4 isn’t covered. chelsea have that look where they are just going to keep rolling over teams, and we can’t allow ourselves to fall too far behind them this early in the season.

i know manchester united really get going around boxing day, but its much too congested at the top of the table these days, and a win would put us in a wonderful position going forward.

btw, anyone know when was the last time manchester united won at stamford bridge? was it the one with the diego forlan goals?

  11. HARGREAVES' CURLY HAIR says:

    great article scott
agree berba is world class but for me he needs to start scoring easy goals as well as the hard ones and then i think he’ll be a complete world class striker. agree with the point that defensively we have to have wes rio vida evra for the chelski game.#4 is very important ahead of next week’s game at the bridge. guys when is hargo coming back from his injury? otherwise i feel we’ll start battering teams once again soon tbh the arsewipes have looked good against relegation candidates and the russian mafia have been made to look good by defensive mistakes by small teams AS well. ah the dippers last week after the derby i said fulham will do them and i guess i was right they were in dreamland after beating us only to succumb to fulham. long live the rafalution. hope lyon do them in the cl.:-)

  12. cav says:

    9. Phil Brown should get sacked in the morning.
He’s a laugh though, I’ll be sad to see him leave.

    10. United are going to win the league.
Drunk as a skunk. At this rate, I don’t see us managing to pass Chelsea, but hopefully they’ll shit the bed halfway through.

  13. Diva Dallia says:

    amen!

  14. Erin says:

Me too. Drunk talking about United all night, that is.

  15. ScousersSuck says:

Ah scott, im sure the same things hold good even when sober. On a side note, in the alleged interview, Martinez says that Sir Alex and his gang “throw sticks” at Benitez. Anyone care to explain what that means?

  16. Corea says:

1,3 emotionals but so very true. After the 07-08 season i can’t believe Wes is not playing when fit. RB is his own.

  17. K says:

Well done mate. I am thoroughly impressed by your ability to to 1. spell and 2. actually have coherent thoughts while drunk.

I reckon it might even be a gift.

  18. Costas says:

Lol, you should do this more often Scott. I agree with you and Corea about Wes. I also like John O’Shea, but Wes when fit is in a different class.

I don’t want Phil Brown to get sucked.Every circus needs a clown!

  19. Costas says:

Wes just might get his chance:

    I hope it’s not true.

  20. Mclovin7 says:

quality i like it. We need to start taking our chances we probably have the most shots off target in premier league and champ league so far this season.shooting practise is needed

  21. TonyBee says:

good blog Scott…. but should have added another couple…

Nani is shit and should be fucked off immediately.
    Obertan looks the real deal.
Never ever give Rooney a yard in the box cos it’ll cost you.
    and finally….
    Liverpool should never sack Benitez.
(Having too much fun watching the cunts implode).

  23. red_boy says:

@Tjalan – bro are u serious that berbatov is underrated?? ahaha he is highly overrated for his poor performance so far… but that goal was awesome and as a United fan, i hope he keeps scoring.. he needs to score more goals and run more

  24. Gotta hate tiny tears says:

Sir Alexs number 1 fan cmits 3 perfesional fouls in a row but got sent off for the one where it looked like he got the ball so an Appel will proberly tale that off him. As for number 1. Berbatov is magic

  25. Jocke says:

Defensive line with Brown, Rio, Vidic, Evra is first class and should be played vs Chelsea.

OT: does anyone know how many assists Anderson got so far this season? League/Total

  26. BrisbaneRed says:

Scott is spot on when he says UTD will win the title this season.
    May I add to that:
The FA will present UTD with the present trophy to keep permanently and there will be a newly designed trophy next season.
Fergie will retire after ‘knocking Liverpool off their perch’
So UTD will have a new manager in the summer. Who I don’t know. Hopefully NOT Mourinho nor anyone in the PL at present.

  27. skit160 says:

    One more…
Gabriel Obertan should play ahead of nani

  28. lidija says:

sober or drunk Scott- u’re GREAT,i enjoy reading your articles, makes me wonder why on that list of best man utd sites we’re(rep.of mancunia) not ranked higher :) if you need an advice for today and how to fight hangover…. eat salty food and drink yoghourt loads of yoghourt, god bless you!!

  29. redjoe10 says:

You’re not all that far off, drunk or not. Berba is a class player, the goal yesterday shows the quality that the best players have in order to unlock stubborn defences. Valencia is settling into his role slowly but surely. Wes is a consistently solid performer. Having Fletch back will be a real bonus too.

  30. READ CAREFULLY WHAT I says:

    11. Nani is not going to make it. He is getting worse not better.

    In Vino Veritas.

  31. Tufty says:

Having seen the Carragher sendning off yesterday, he was unlucky to go as he got a toe to the ball, even Zamora tried telling the ref that he had won the ball. last week, it was not a red card on Owen.

With regards to your comment on Phil Brown, that comment shows whats worng with the modern day football fan and was akin with the few idiots who booed the Utd team off at half time yesterday. Some fans are so far spoilied they become greedy. Only a few years back Hull City were in the bottom of diviision 4, they played at a run down stadium and faced going out of business. They have gone from being in that position to a club in a new stadium in the Premier league. They survived last season as other teams were worse than them and this seaosn they are again struggling. They have a very limited budget and Hull is not the nicest place in the world to attract players to. The Hull fans have now become very greedy, thinking they have some devine right to stay in The Prem.
Phil Brown done a superb job to get them promoted, he done a superb job in the first few months in the prem. What Hull fans have to accept is that they will never be an established Prem club and should be looking for a good season next season in the Championship. It takes a while to become established, Bolton used to go through this yo yo experience and Birmingham and West Brom are the same.
The greed of the modern fan who think they have a devine right to win games is the scurge of Old Trafford, it now seems clubs like hull are falling victim, those JCL fans should remember the days less than 10 years ago when they had 1,000 gates and faced extinction.

  32. ROONEY'S TURN TO EAT says:

what can i do without ROM in my life?

  33. Chep says:

IN VINO VERITAS, Scott. :-) I believe it was not the wine that made you drunk so have a short hangover today

agree with all the points, what relates the point 6) I do not have details about. will you post some more?

  34. Tony Starks says:

If no.10 happens this year after all that’s happen with the squad it will be one of Alex Ferguson’s greatest achievements…

  35. Gotta hate tiny tears says:

    Tufty
you talk some bollox just to be heard. Phil brown should get sacked he’s doing a shit job incharge of a team that is losing money because of his desisions. Rafa should get sacked for the same reason. Modern football as you say is a money makin machine of a money losing machine depending on who’s the manager of the side who makes the big decisions. If you disagree with everything that’s said on this site then fuck off. And I really mean that from the bottom of the boil oN the base of my gut. Just fuck off the site you are a wanker so just reply now saying I lick scotts arse or I make embassing Youtube videos. But the fact is I make videos that 95% of people love and ya can’t please everyone but you ya fucking wanker seem to be hated by everyone. Because you are an out and out wankball

  36. The kenyan rooney says:

U r the best scot.keep it blazing!psss i hope the physios at united have a good look at Obertan.i love the guy & i hope he gets some muscles & stamina.

  37. Fze123 says:

Agree with all the points. Wes Brown should always start at RB. End of.

  38. Justared says:

Berbatov needs to run more? Typical perspiration over inspiration nonsense.

  39. Corea says:

    @ Costas

what’s wrong with Phil Brown ?

  40. 7 theking 7 says:

Anyonee Got link To a wallpaper with berba on his knees celebrating??, And obertan l;ooked extremely clumsy , but when he got his confidence , he was a class act :)

  41. Costas says:

    @Corea:

I won’t judge him as a manager because i haven’t followed Hull’s games. The only thing i will say about that is that he was a bit lucky to stay up last year. They lost easily to a second string United team and they were a Newcastle goal away from going down.

But,Phil Brown is a character and that’s why i said i would like him to stay.Because he makes the PL more interesting.Whether he is giving his half time instructions on the pitch or whether he is singing in front of the fans after Hull have escaped relegation.

  42. Stephen says:

Brown should get sacked simply because in my view he has lost the dressing room, he has though done a decent job there and that should not be forgotton, but he is a total wanker.
Also as much as I like O’Shea and he is United through and through how is he our first choice right back?

  43. Stephen says:

Also I am still not sure about Valencia but will give him time and Anderson is simply not United quaility he is the most overrated player at our club.

  44. Scott the Red says:

As I started to stir this morning, with zombie face paint all over my pillows, I had the shock realisation I’d written something on here. Vague memories. I’m glad now that sober, and feeling like death warmed up as well as looking it, I can stand by every single one of my points.

I should get off my face more often…

  45. 7 theking 7 says:

Ando , Is not overated , what people forget is that he is very young and he will become a united great he has been quality for us , he bossed fabregas, gerrard, alonso and maschearano all in one season!!

  46. Stephen says:

He has scored one goal in two and a half seasons mate, he is overrated and will never be a United great, but will be happily proven wrong.

  47. sam the kenyan red says:

o’shea our first choice rb my ass!!! we’ve enough got people who can do a great job for us down there….no disrespect though!!

  48. Corea says:

    @ Scott

get off my face ? i haven’t found it in the dictionary ))

    @ Costas

i love the character and his win against Arsenal at the Emirates was smth special. You’ve said “every circus needs a clown”. Maybe i misinterpreted it a bit. ;)

  49. Tufty says:

The reality is, that no matter who spends the most money or who has the the best manager, one team has to be bottom of the league and three teams will get relegated. Now usually, spending equates to league position, but thats not always the case.
With regards to Hull, they have risen from the almost extinction of the days under the Chairmanship of Martin Fish at Boothferry Park, to a new stadium and fast tracked promotion to the Premier League. The manager who gained them promotion was Phil Brown. Hulls spending on players and wages is amongst the lowest in the league, they are one of the only clubs who dont go into a form of debt.
The signings Hull have made is evident of the wages they are prepared to pay. Hull fans should be grateful of the promotions they have had in recent years and that they still have a club. Its funny, but in the old days of division 3 and 4, Hull struggled to get gates of more than 2,000; yet nowadays they get gates of 20,000; a sign of the glory hunter and with that comes the added greed of always wanting more; we see that ourselves at Old Trafford, with fans turning up thinking we have a devine right to win, booing the team off if its 0-0 at half time or baying for players blood if we happen to be loosing.
If I was a Hull fan I’d enjoy my time in the Prem, look at this year as an added bonus and learn from the experience as they look for promotion back from the Championship.

  50. Corea says:

    @ Tufty

    fair point, mate.

  51. Costas says:

    @Corea:

I didn’t mean that he was a clown.I meant that if the PL is a circus, then we need people like him to make it more enjoyable.Just like a clown makes the circus more fun.I do remember the result at the Emirates last year. They started the season so well last year!Whatever the case,i hope they stick by him.He has been with them through the hard times. If the sack him,who can they bring in?Brucey is already tied elsewhere.;)

  52. Scott the Red says:

Tufty – Phil Brown earned them one promotion, from the Championship to the Premiership. It was Peter Taylor who got back to back promotions to take them to the Championship from the fourth tier. So Brown hasn’t achieved half of what you’re claiming!

Since Brown humiliated his players last Christmas at City, they have gone from bad to worse to even worse. He’s clearly lost the dressing room.

  53. Kings says:

Carragher still insists he should not have been sent off as he won the ball. He clearly forgets that he was pulling Zamora before eventually getting the ball – stupid fucking bastard. Fucking cheating cunt, if it wasn’t for his foul on Owen, Owen would have made it 1-1 for United.

  54. Always Be Closing says:

@Corea – that’s because sentences aren’t in the dictionary, div.

  55. sam the kenyan red says:

    @tufty
its amaizing how you can go as far as defending one mr phil brown,
what he has done at hull is exeptionally great from possible threat of falling to blue square to one time topping the premiere league that is without doubt a great achievement.
but how can you simply defend his sudden downfall??
i dont personally believe pl managers should be complaining about the lack of funds in their teams, there are many big clubs willing to loan good players to the hull of this era why not take advantage??

  56. Tufty says:

How can you say he has lost the dressing room, have you been in it?
The players public backing of the manager shows he hasnt lost it.
Yes, he only got them one promotion, but that was the key one, they came a very long way in a very short time and there spending has bene quite refreshing in terms of thinking about the long term.
Players wont go there as they can pick up bigger pay packets elsewhere, as Manucho showed.
Brown will become a better manager from the experience rather than sacking him. There is no guarantee a new manager will get better results, yet Brown could get them promoted again next season.
Furthermore, there arent many Hull fans actually calling for Brown to go, its mainly the media. I have to question why someone on a Utd blog thinks they have a right to publicly state that Brown should go?
The problem with modern football fans is they want the dream, not the reality and some of the posts on here each week from various people are evident of that.

  57. Stephen says:

Tufty, it is clear he has lost the dressing room the results show that and McShane looks really behind his manager yesterday, also they have amassed one of the Premier League’s top 10 wage bills over the last 12 months, standing at around a staggering £40m.

  58. Mahesh says:

I would add, at the risk of being slated, that Rooney has been playing very ordinary football for a while now. Regardless of the goal he scored yesterday, he has been piss poor for a while and I hope to dear god its because he’s distracted by the fact that he’s about to become a father. If that’s not it, then he’s nowhere close to being one of the best players in the world. His first touch is suddenly awful (only slightly worse than a certain Argie), his shooting of old is non-existent, and his passing is hit and miss. I love the guy, he has talent and drive, but lets face it, the idea that Ronaldo’s leaving would allow him to shine is right about now looking as believable as the idea that Nani will become one of the best wingers in the world if given time. I think what Scott said about Ando vs. Cesc is as applicable right now to Rooney vs. the top players in the world.

  59. Stephen says:

Rooney has scored 8 in 13, or something like that I personally would not swap him for any striker on the planet, he is a top, top player and more importantly United through and through.

  60. Scott the Red says:

Tufty – you based your defence of Brown on him gaining all those promotions, but now you acknowledge that you were wrong and he only got them one promotion, isn’t your argument considerably weaker?

Which Hull fans have you been speaking to? I haven’t spoken to any so would just use the fact Hull are booed and jeered off the pitch every week as an indication the fans are not very happy.

But why do I feel like I can publicly state my opinion? I dunno Tufty, maybe something called freedom of speech. If Nick Griffin can go on Question Time, I can bloody give my opinion on my own blog, you pompous wannabe.

  61. fooart9 says:

    hi mate…

i has an opinion here…if we going to make crazy spending on a player with all our money i will go for Fabregas…if we going to throw really crazy money he is the one…Silva and Villa are very good player but not proven in epl like fabregas…He remind me of scholes and he is so young…yeah it is unlikely given hes love to Arsenal and he is a captain and we are their rival…but cup success every season guaranteed plus money changing loyalty nowaday who know…

  62. sam the kenyan red says:

scott are you still drunk ???????

  63. Fze123 says:

@ Stephen, no one seemed to have picked up what you said, “ando most overrated player at our club” bloody hell did you watch the match yesterday!?! he was one of the best players, assisted Rooney’s goal, kept winning the ball and never lost it and made deadly passes. He is utd quality regardless of what you think.

  64. Mahesh says:

Rooney is a top player alright, no doubt about it, on his day. The problem is not that, the problem has always been his consistency – his tendency to go on a good stretch, then disappear for a while. I think my point is that Rooney is becoming too predictable, even too cautious and mature. There is no sense of something coming out of nothing anymore, which you get with the truly world class players.

  65. Mic says:

Scott I wish my drunk ramblings were this sane instead I tend to text an ex or make an ass out myself to a girl I like or tell girls what they want to hear to get them into bed then seriously regret it when they think it’s the start of a relationship only for me to ignore them!

  66. Corea says:

Nice. Scott defends his drunk post )))) Just a banter.
I like Phil Brown. From what i know and what i see on the TV screen and would be sad to see him go.

  67. King Eric says:

Stephen – Alright pal. I normally agree with you but Anderson had a good game yesterday and has done when asked this season. As for Rooney could not agree more. Would not swap him for anyone. Look at Torres. Fucked again now.

As for Fabregas’ goal I admit he put it away well but fucking hell the defending was sunday league. Nobody got a foot in.

  68. football24genius says:

    11. Phil Brown should join the dippers as Rafa’s no 2

  69. Tufty says:

I speak to a few Hull fans, ones who have been going to games for many a year, long before the Premier League was ever a dream.
They accept where they have come from and after the Martin Fish years of the club nearly going under, back the spending policy of the club.
they would rather a few years of being a yo-yo club than to drift back into obscurity.
I based my defene of Brown on his promotion and the clubs promotions.
The same with Wigan, people will slag them off for heir attendances, but less than 10 years ago I went to a game at Springfield park in front of a gate of 1,300 and in several divisions below the Prem league. The long term Wigan fans hate some oof the attitudes for the JCL glory hunting brigade.

  70. cantona7 says:

#3 I think i am the only one here still not impressed with Wes. I think O’Shea covered him a lot yesterday. Against Barsnley, he was guilty of a glaring missed header in front of our goal, unchallenged. He is way behind his own past, he has a lot of catching-ups to do.

#6 I wont forgive Rio Ferdinand just yet, after that Anfield game. That Anfield hurts too much.

  71. NickOGS20 says:

Good to see that even with various other placed banning you, you’re finding new outlets to spout your nonsense Tufty

  72. Rob the Red says:

If Brown has lost the dressing room where do the players get changed?

  73. Rob the Red says:

If Brown has lost the dressing room where do the players get changed?

  74. Its in my blood says:

    Tufty
Your only purpose in coming on this site seems to be to disagree, slate and generally upset people.
Even on the rare occasions you have a valid or fair point you lose what little respect you may have gained by constantly suggesting everyone else’s viewpoint is “stupid” or that somehow they are not real fans.
Life must be a barrel of laughs in the Tufty household…

  75. Its in my blood says:

    Rob the Red

It was last seen heading across the M62 towards Merseyside.

  76. Gotta hate tiny tears says:

    Its in my blood
    Funny Funny FUNNY shit

  77. Rob the Red says:

    Dippers will nick anything!

  78. Fze123 says:

    lol @ Rob the Red

  79. brett1985 says:

Maybe this explains the time he kept the players out on the pitch at half time.

  80. Stephen says:

Fze123, Pal I am not going to get in your face but I was at the game and he did Ok but really no more, I have said it before if he wasn’t Brazilian and have silly hair people would not rave about him, Fabregas is three times the player he is and I hate the cunt and for £18.6m I expect more than one goal in two and a half years.
King Eric , mate I have the most respect for you than anyone and I mean this on any United site, you speak the most sense and are a top boy, but for me Anderson simply hasn’t got it in a United shirt, he may make it outside the club but for me we are too big for him.

  81. Swapnil says:

MY 10 OBSERVATIONS WITHOUT GETTING DRUNK:

before i write this i must admit i love man utd and will be a utd fan for life.don’t think i’m very negative but some things are bothering me since the start of this season and would like to put those fwd.guys feel free to discuss these….
1.nobody from our team can shoot well from distance
2.we spend so much time in building up a move that the opposing team has all the men behind the ball by the time the final pass comes in
3.berbatov always heads right where keeper is standing, never in the corner
4.although he’s scored a few this season, owen’s finishing skills have gone a level down
5.for all his pretty passing paul scholes is never going to open up defenses
6.the reason why berba and rooney keep dropping behind is because we don’t have an attacking midfielder who will drop in those areas as both our central mfielders are always sitting deep
7.our counter attack is not a good as it used to be
8.we sleep in the first half in most of the games
9.our football is not looking as pretty is it used to be i mean once boaring pool and chelsea also look good playing these days
10.i won’t say we’re not gonna win the league but for sure we don’t deserve to win the league the way we’re playing

  82. pondave says:

Tufty obviously clashes with a few people on here, esp. GHTT and Scott, but he i entitled to his opinion aswell, even if it is normally different to scotts. I agree some of the stuff he says is a load of rubbish in my opinion, but also some of the stuff makes good sense, and he does normally try to put across some kind of argument instead of the generalistic comments like ‘ando is shite’, ‘carrick should be sold cos he’s pants’ etc.

Phil Brown did a good job with hull, but since xmas the results have been shocking, and they only clung on by the skin of their teeth last year due to their good start.
There is no way of knowing if he’s lost the dressing room for sure, bt players are always going to defend the present boss, wether they really mean it or ot.
So has he earned the right to be given more time to turn it around? I dont know, the longer you leave it getting poor results the less time for him or his replacement to turn it around.

    And Yes Berba is awesome!!

I think they should either sack him now, so the new gaffer has time before jan to really assess the squad, or stick with him for the season.

  83. Berbatovs' love life says:

I TOLD YOU ALL I WAS WORLD CLASS!

  84. Giles Oakley says:

Scott, talking all night about United? Good man, that’s what I like to hear. Wish I could get away with that, drunk or sober.

  85. Snoopy says:

    It is correct!

#10 – We will win the league.

I cant wait for the African Nations cup to come around in January. Then Chelsea is really farked losing Essien, Obi Mikel, Drogba and Kalou. Buy back-up or loan in January? oh wait, they can’t. ha ha ha

I don’t give a fuck what anyone thinks about Van Persie on Arsenal. They guy is good. He’s bagging goals like groceries right now.
Fabregas’ goal was ridiculous. He’s unbelievably talented. Maybe we should make a suprise swoop for him haha
Berba’s goal was spectacular. The confidence and shear audacity that move took was something else. The shot was a screamer too!

I hope we start playing with some style and flair pretty quick. Some of our games are getting downright sluggish. Whatever happened to quick passing football with lots of movement. There’s never any real flow to the games.

Totenham’s keeper Gomes is extremely good. In his last few games he’s made some impossible saves.

Mahesh. Great comments on Rooney. I thought he was awful Saturday. His passing was embarassing. Every pass was behind the player…giving them nothing to run on to. He’s shown flashes of brilliance but until he gets some consistency in his game I don’t think he can be held in such high regard compared to other top strikers in the world

Red Devilled Egg – Yes Fabregas’ goal was “ridiculous”. In fact it was a joke. Sunday league defending at best. He should never have been allowed to waltz through like that. Save for the first half hour on Saturday we played some good football. As for Rooney it is a measure of the man that he can have an “awful” game as you put it then pop up with a finish like that. How can you say he isn’t up there with the best. The lad is fucking immense. Just look at his United goal record for a 24 year old.

    Gomez conceded 3 on Saturday.
