And Scott...what ron has done or has become or what he stands for is too vivid and recent in the memory. as the saying goes..time heals..in time you 'll forget bit by bit and start warming to him again. That is if he stays longer than this proposed year

Agree on alot of of the pros and cons on ronaldo....and there are many viewpoints on both sides. Neither wrong. But Tom F hit it on the nail. You dont need to elaborate too much...a picture told a thousand words. most of the answers of what he is who he stands for and what and why he does things is in that pic..in that moment.

We shouldn't try to make a mountain out of a mole hill for God's sake;all humans irrespective of their nature have their own flaws,so,how would you people feel if someone should berate you seriously because of the exhibition of your own flaws, ronaldo is the best player within the solar system as at now, without him,we'd have probably finished off last season in a uefa cup spot;and for madrid to come up with a sum of over 200,000gbp weekly for him,c'mon it's only expected he would re-tilt his specs(if he had 1);we should respect his decision as a world icon to forgo all those additionals in order to don the red shirt once again..morever,since returning from injury,he has already scored 2 and made 2 assists from 2 starts, really,we built him into what he is today, but he isn't the relatively local no.'28' talent we signed 5 years ago from sporting;we should stop crying over spilt milk, and instead focus on the fresh season and think of better ways of deriving the best from the deadliest strikeforce in the galaxy..there can only be only ONE UNITED.

One image above all which sums up Ronaldo is when Van Der Sar saved the penalty in the Champions League final and the whole team ran to celebrate with him except Mr Odd One Out Ronaldo who wanted his own share of the limelight.

That always leaves me cold.

I don't think Ronaldo's behaviour is any more annoying than it was last season, it's just that people notice it more now. It's not a problem for me - I never liked him that much, but now I don't feel obliged to like him. I just think he's a player who helps us win games so it's good that we have him, even though it will probably only be until the summer.

In total agreement. I don't think I can enjoy watching him play. He embarrasses me. He gives off the impression that he is doing Utd a bleedin favour by playing for us. That gets my goat above all else

Don't be so hard on yourself.

I love to loathe Ronaldo too. :-)

You're right that it was easier to forgive him last season, but let's be honest - if we weren't United fans, we would hate his guts with a passion.

For all his brilliance, he's a petulant boy in a man's body, whose fame has gotten to his head.

I've recently asked myself why I detest Ronaldo so much NOW and the answer for is following:
I cannot stand Cristiano Ronaldo, because he plays for himself.
Forget all his quotes and claims. They are all empty. He only plays for himself - because he loves to watch himself on TV.

It's ok if he's got the ball on the wing and he runs without passing, because there's no one to support him - at least he carries the ball forward into enemy territory, but it's completely different when he's surrounded by team mates and doesn't care to even look up and see his options.

Before the summer, we all could put it down to immaturity or it being part of his game, but during the summer we found out, it's because he only cares about himself.

Ronaldo destroyed any shred of goodwill and oversight we afforded him, because he showed that he doesn't care about anybody but himself. Not for his team mates, the club or the fans.

And that is why, I will never, ever regard him as a United legend.

Im with you on this Scott. Its clearly a hot topic, 38 posts in less than a day. But the majority of us writing in here obviously feel the same. That doesnt make me any less (or more) of a United fan, its just opinions.
No one is doubting his ability, or that we are a better team with more purpose when he plays, its what goes with it that puts us off.
Last summer left a bad taste in all our mouths. Granted, the boy is from Portugal, and Real Madrid are a huge deal out there, and we all knew that one day he would like to play there, the problem was the way he went about it this summer, with cryptic answers to journos, and never giving a proper clear statement on his intent to stay or go. That hurt alot of United fans big time, and I for one am glad this kind of debate is going on.
Whats said on this board wont encourage him to stay, or push him away.
Orez, thats your opinion and you are entitled to it. Heres my opinion, I think you are talking crap regarding Rooney, and are out of line.
Id rather have Rooney representing me, as a United fan, on the field ANY day of the week ahead of Ronaldo.
As for you Franco, coming on calling anyone that disagrees with you as 'stupid, naive and self rightous'? Im not having that. I see the point you make about football being a business, players coming and going, and the rest about Ronaldo, but you are speaking like you are a customer, or a shareholder of some big cold business, its all about winning and results and cash, regardless of....is that really the way you see the club???
I, like alot of others that I know, speak from the heart on all matters United, like I own part of the club, its in me, and Im in it.
This club is special, thats what drew us all into it, and we're in for life. So dont break down our club into some random global business, that results alone should dictate what way we feel, and what we think. Theres alot more to United than that.
We'll NEVER die...

I felt exactly the same sitting in the stands and so did so many around me. Halfway through the game I turned around to my mate and said something that everyone around me agreed with.

He'll never be Wayne Rooney.

Im extremely dissapointed at most of you guys berating ronaldo. Those of you who have been saying we should have sold him fo 70mil clearly have not been watching united play every game this season.

Firstly, against Newcastle, pompey, and zenit we were no shows. i do accept that for those games we didnt have berba and no rooney for some of them, but even against zenit WITH rooney and tevez (basicly our only other goal scorers last season) we left alot to be desired going forward. i would love to blame that on our midfield, but we had carrick n scholes trying to create. The problem was that our attakers didnt take the initiative and didnt know what to do with the ball, and when they did, they couldnt put it in the back of the net.
When ronaldo came on against villareal, it was clear as daylight for me to see how differently we played. We had played good football for 15min against liverpool and against villareal for 45min, but when ronaldo came on in the second half, we looked like we knew what we were doing for the first time.

Secondly, Scott, i am normaly 100% behind your opinions, but this one, i have to disagree. I can understand your feelings but deffinately cannot condone your berating of ronaldo, for the simple reason that i thought he was our best player. The team did start off well enough trying to create chances, but when we were continuously frustrated by the bolton defence, who did everyone in the team turn to? Ronaldo...We seemed to give him the ball whenever we could for him to create space for others. Its easy to say he should have passed instead of run with the ball, but it was ronaldo that took the initiative, who tryd to take the game by the scruff of the neck, which is something no other united player has done so far this season. He is unfortunately the most important part of our team, and without him we are not the same attaking force.

Just on abit of a side note, the people who think ronaldo is selfish because he had very few assists last season (i think it was 4 or something) and that rooney is king because of his 18 or so assists, i think you guys didnt really pay attention during most games last season. I can remember atleast 6 or 7 oppotunities set up by ronaldo for rooney. I also remember rooney missing all of those chances
