Nani has spoken about his frustration over missing the World Cup through injury and his hopes for the season.
“It was a bad time,” said Nani. “No-one wants to miss a World Cup or a European Championship. I was very, very bored in my house. Now I want to help United win the title next season and I will work hard for that. It’s good to have this competition. I just wanted to recover quickly and to get fit. My shoulder is strong now. I’m feeling very good in my injury, now I just need to get fitness to play. I am so happy to come back and feel my body strong. Now I just want to start the season as quickly as possible, to play and score goals. Every season I show everyone I can improve. I’m improving a lot with this team.”

One of the biggest disappointments of the World Cup – and there were many – was Nani getting injured. I’d been really looking forward to seeing him on the big stage, having seen him growing in stature for United in the second half of the season. He plays well for Portugal, getting more goals and assists than Ronaldo, and it was a big blow when he had to pull out. It’s great to see him fired up and motivated for thre new season, and also referring to his team as ‘United’ and not ‘Manchester’, as many foreign players say it. Of course I know lots of such players only know of one team in Manchester (including poor old deluded Robinho), so it’d forgiveable but I’m old school, ‘There’s Only One United’, and I want players saying it right.

playing the hold up role, which I think lets him down. Some really solid moments that
need to be built on in the second half.
Cleverly is obviously out to make SAF think twice about sending him on loan. i like the way he plays, he imposes himself and tries to do what he want with the ball, he forcing his play style. really good to see.

I know mate. Not denying that we played badly. I am just not interested a lot in friendlies the past few seasons. And if you notice the trend after big international tournaments, our first 4-5 friendlies feature few of our big names. After the MLS game, I said there was nothing to get excited about yet. And there’s nothing to get worried about just yet either. Apart from our defence that is. I admit that has me a bit worried. But some of the big guns were missing from there too.
I saw the Chicha goal on youtube. Very nice. He could be the one to provide us with that extra spark in the opening weeks of the season until the team gets into the groove. Since Rooney will just come back this week, we could see Berba and Hernandez start against Chelsea. If we play 4-4-2 that is…

yeah. i was surprised that fergie took berba off at the start of the 2nd half. Thought a Berba- Hernandez partnership can work and would have liked to see it. Think they will play in the communiy shield although how seriously the boss takes it i dont know as he said he will use it as a part of the preparation for the new season
The defence was poor but there were 3 youngsters in da laet, rafael and smalling so cant blame them much really. Kusczak being in goal didnt help much either. Hope we do better from now on as the big names return

Good point about the defence. Just saw the lineup again, and I think this is probably the last time we will ever see that back 4. And dare I say this is the last time this season we will see Sheasy and Smalling as partners at the heart of the defence. Seems like Fergie used this game to reach some conclusions as what’s he status of the young players.
I think the Chelsea game will be a glorifyed friendly game. We haven’t scheduled a tough friendly game(like we did last season against Valencia), so next week’s game will be just that.

Don’t know mate. The problem with Smalling is that he will have to learn a lot about being a top class defender on the job. Ferguson must feel that there’s plenty of room for him to develop. That being said, the less we depend on him this forthcoming season, the better. He will need time and space to start coming along.
Giles Oakley – In total agreement with you on that one mate, I too was really looking forward to seeing Nani at the World Cup as I think he would have been a hit at the tournament – was absolutely gutted that he missed out through injury. Looking forward to seeing him and Valencia terrorising opposing full-backs next season. With those two and the explosive pace of Hernandez, we should be scoring plenty of goals next season – easing the goalscoring burden on Wazza in the process.

Things will be alright when we have Rafael, Vidic, Evans and Evra as the back 4 with Fletcher in front of them and VDS. That is the best in the league for my money and with a base like that the attack will click for sure as they can bomb forward with abandon.
A few observations, Someone asked why Corry was playing in midfield, probably because he’s a midfielder. The Berbatov sniping continues, lets wait until the season starts, before we judge any of our players. It seems to me, that whatever environment you put Hernandez in, he adopts very easily, next challenge for him will be how he adopts to English football. ps Well done to all of you that stayed up and give a running commentry
well I never saw the game since I was out all night, but what we have learned is? the CF position seems now is filled with 2 players who may take the load off rooney@S shoulders in? hernandes and macheda, now 442 or 424 fergie should get back too nearly week in week out. But he needs a world class midfield general, that is the priorety get a midfielder who can go in there and domminate the midfield
1. Our defense against Chivas was just pitiful. Vidic and Evra are required for League games.
2. Diouff was not up to United level.
3. So far Nani’s form is well below what we’ve seen in the end of the last season. His decision making is terrible at the moment.

4. Berba and Scholsey didn’t look too happy today.
