Nani: Nobody Gets Near Incredible Scholes In Training

Nani has sung the praises of Paul Scholes, claiming that even in training he controls the game and that his team mates can’t get near him.

“Scholesy is just incredible and it’s a privilege to be in the same squad,” said Nani. “I said to him the other day in training: ‘Scholesy, you should have stayed at home because you are playing alone.’ What I mean is that he makes a pass to one wing, goes to support and gets the ball. Then he makes a pass to the other wing, goes to support and gets the ball again. All the time he’s in control of the play. The other team don’t get near the ball, even in training. They are playing just against him! He’s the best midfielder I’ve ever seen. He can pass, score goals with his left, right, his head. He can do anything. And he can beat a player too, plus he loves to nutmeg you! He’s unbelievable.”

If I start talking about how awesome a footballer Scholesy is, I won’t get any sleep tonight.

Side note…Macheda scored with a neat little chip against Udinese. Completely flat-footed the keeper.

Sounds like Paul’s ready to put a good shift in. Raring to go, no doubt.

yeah Scholsey has had a good rest over Christmas

would like to see Fergie try Ando and Scholes for a few games

Fletch needs a month rest, Carrick is pretty useless, Gibson not good enough yet

Also, I think Owen and Chicho need more playing time. ROoney has done little to justify his starting place. Fergie needs to bench him more. We have all winnable games coming up

    Man Utd v Birmingham (W)
    Blackpool v Man Utd (W)
Man Utd v Aston Villa (W)
    Wolverhampton v Man Utd (W)
Man Utd v Man City (W)

and really, even the scouse match we should win, but its their cup final this season so they may upset us and draw

  6. Rob Marrs says:

Totally agree – he’s a class act! Severely (and criminally) under-rated by a succession of England managers. He should have been the man that England built the team around between 1997-2007 (and, indeed, possibly beyond that date).

anyone know a stream for the reserves game playing now?

  9. Corea says:

We still have Scholesy when i think of the players like Modric.

  10. Red Devil says:

Scholes…my favourite player United player of all time, although i must say Roy Keane and ryan giggs run him very close…Keano with his monstrous desire to win was just deadly…but Scholes is the true Silent Assassin with his quiet unassuming demeanour but a will to win no less than Keano’s..

  11. Red Devil says:

Hello Vadim….but Modric isn’t fit to lace Scholesy’s boots imo…

  12. Corea says:

@Red Devil – i meant actually just that ;) when denton and willie had an argument about modric value i said i don’t care as long as Scholesy is with us.
My favorite player off all time as well.

  13. Corea says:

Reread my post, yes hard to get what i put there ) Sorry for that.

  14. Red Devil says:

No need to apologize mate…. all in good time… :)
how’re u feeling mate…..things better at ur end?

  15. Corea says:

@Red Devil – not bad, pal. Wednesday better than Tuesday as long as Tuesday isn’t a matchday lol

  16. Red Devil says:

Nice to see you back in high spirits mate… ;)
although wednesdays are the worst for me, becoz they tell mr there r two days of labour gone, but half the working week still to come before the respite of matchday :D

  17. Corea says:

@Red Devil – Cmon Tuesday is still early days ) Wednesday half way through ) And on Friday hoho some 14 pints of beer and a hungover on Saturday ))

  18. Red Devil says:

well i’ll be hitting the sack for today…else i’ll have a hangover in office tomorrow! lol

    scholes + giggs = Legends.

  21. RedScot says:

What is he meaning he admires him Why! he really is turning into a right smooth talker. I am begining to question wether I love him, sweet talking every Tom “Dick” and Paul.

  22. willierednut says:

Why the Scholes > Giggs? Two fucking legends and leave it at that, eh?

  23. FletchTHEMAN says:

Scholes = Scholes and Giggs = Giggs for me.
    Both legends of our times.

Not like Ballotelli, Gerrard, JT, etc = legends in their minds.

  24. Ulster Red says:

    well said wille
sense you got a bit annoyed at that lol

  26. YorYor says:

Legends they are and rightly so. Legendary Twats.

  27. YorYor says:

And of course I was referring to the names that would spoil my keyboard if I typed them.

  28. JayDee says:

I have such a Scholes love appetite. Nani this is the smartest thing you’ve said all your life.
This guy is in the top 5 of the worlds best midfielders… at the age of 36…. now imagine what rank he’d of been 10 years ago!

  29. daegs says:

I feel privileged to have seen one of the true greats of the game up close for so many years. We’ll wax lyrical about him to our grandkids – mark my words!

Watch this video, it shows exactly what scholsey is all about. Its a great watch, Enjoy!

  30. King Eric says:

Well said willie mate. Thought it a strange comment myself. To the lad who said carrick is useless. Yeah just watch how vulnerable we look when he doesn’t play.

  31. AceMace says:

Paul Scholes is the best CM the Premier League has ever seen. Period… Can’t comment on the pre-PL era as I started watching football in 1991… But Fabregas, Gerrard, Lampard simply just don’t match up to the ginger genius…. Maybe im a lil bias, but Roy Keane is also above all that mentioned… He beats the shit of Veira too…

However, I do have a Spurs fan who tells me Glenn Hoddle was at least on par with Paul Scholes in terms of passing… and there is the never fulfilled promise of Gascoigne… My answer is F off… But was Hoddle really that good to delude a Spurs fan? And this is a fan who usually speaks sense.. Educate me please..

  32. CedarsDevil says:

    AceMace

Hoddle was a class act mate, great player to watch, good vision and could take a decent free kick..So your friend is making sense mate.

  33. United says:

There were plenty of classy midfielders before Scholes and a few around now as well. Don’t be blinded by EVERYTHING Scott says, you can appreciate players from other clubs for their skill, ignore their personalities.

Fabregas, Lampard etc may not be the nicest people in your eyes, but they are damn fine footballers, only the most blinkered, one eyed fan would tell you that they wouldn’t want Fabregas at United. The guy would walk into almost any first team in the world, bar Barcelona (ironically)

  34. CedarsDevil says:

    United

Hi mate…. I do not think most say that players like Fabregas or Lampard are crap, most say they dislike them ala Gerrard as well… All mentioned are good players no doubt and no one would deny that.

For me though I would not replace Scholes with any other midfielder from the modern era… The only one that would come close would be Zidane, whom himself sung the praises of Scholes and said how he would have loved to play with him…..

  35. SULLY says:

Paul Scholes, you’ll always be the reason I loved football. Simply irreplaceable. United – You mean in your Fantasy League eh…

  36. AceMace says:

    @United
I’m not saying that they are not great players.. Just not as good as Scholes in his prime… Fabregas is the exception to that in that he still has his best years ahead of him. But still, I still stand by what I said that Scholes is the best midfielder who has graced the Premier League. Period.

    @CedarsDevil
Ok… I did remember an interview with one of his team mates(can’t remember who) saying that Hoddle would put the ball at your feet from 50-60 yards, without you ever needing to chase a loose ball… Sounds a lot like scholes..

Oh man… Thats tough… Zidane is my favourite non-United player… Feel a lil disloyal saying this, but I would take him over Scholes… Another CM who definitely I would have loved to have played for United is Nedved… and maybe Seedorf at his prime… But who knows.. We did get Veron who was the best midfielder in Seria A at that point and we all know how that turned out..

  37. CedarsDevil says:

    AceMace

Zidane is a tough one to call but if I had to be brutally honest I would not take him over Scholes… No doubt Zidane is a legend in his own right, one of the best to grace the field BUT to me and having watched Scholes since he came on the scene in 96 with his loyalty, love for the club, humbleness, never in the media for the wrong reasons, genius on the field I would NEVER replace him with any footballer that ever existed….

    Just my opinion

  38. afromanc says:

I fucking love Paul Scholes and i dont give a fuck !!

  39. bettathedevilsweknow says:

@afromanc. well said! i’ve tried to think of many adjectives to describe Paul Scholes, but the only words that do it for me is …..Paul Scholes.

  40. United says:

    Well

In a straight 442 its Scholes anyday

Its hard to compare Lampard to Scholes because he always played in a 3 man midfield, excelling in that rule, scoring more than Scholes did in his prime but not controlling a game.

Imagine both of them in a 3 man midfield (leave out Gerrard, add Hargreaves = World Cup 2006 win)

  41. JayDee says:

Scholes is the only player in the league right now who could walk into Barcelona first 11 and look like he’s played with them since youth. Probably the only player in the world above 30 who could do that too.
Greatest in the Red shirt of all time? At least in my era of knowing United…

  42. King Eric says:

Acemace – Yeah mate Hoddle was a great player. Very creative, scored goals and a fantastic passer. Will never forget his curling lob over Steve Sherwood. Growing up for me though I hate to admit the dippers were quality. They could keep and pass the ball with players like Souness, Whelan and McDermott. Even fat little Sammy Lee was a great player.

  43. AceMace says:

    @CedarsDevil

If u take into account his loyalty, love of the club and his overall personality, then yes, Scholes over Zidane… But Zidane was probably the best footballer I have seen in flesh… There has not been a better footballer in the last 20 yrs, in my humble opinion… So yeah, if given the choice, for pure footballing reasons and nothing else, Zidane over Scholes… As guilty as I feel saying it..

    @King Eric
Unfortunately or might I add fortunately, I started watching football in 1991… So all those great Liverpool legends are lost on me… I just google or youtube them if anyone mentions them… One guy who I got to watch to play and liked was Peter Beardsley when he was at Newcastle… Although I guess u could hardly classify him a Liverpool legend… Ian Rush was probably a lil too old for me to appreciate…

  45. Rob Marrs says:

Not much else to say, really. England should have built the team around him…. sadly successive England managers played him out of position? Him playing on the left-wing?! Dear Lord….
