Nani Not Considering Leaving?

Just a week or so ago I wrote on here claiming we needed to be more patient with Nani, following a string of frustrating games with the odd flash of something good. We’ve spent a lot of money on the lad and he should be given a fair run in the team before he’s out on his arse.

But unfortunately for Nani, he couldn’t just be patient and see what the manager’s plans were for him. Given the impressive start Gabriel Obertan has made, now should be the time more than ever that Nani should keep his gob shut.

“Ferguson is a very complicated man,” Nani told Portuguese newspaper ‘I’. “He’s tough. If things are all right, then they are all right. But when he thinks something is wrong, everything is screwed. He can go from complimenting you to just plain trashing you in a matter of minutes. Has it happened to me? Hell, yes! He’ll say ‘Nani, how could you miss this or this’? He shouts at players in front of everyone. No one escapes, everybody is the same. Giggs and Neville suffer most, because they have more experience. It is ‘Fuck’ here and ‘Fuck’ there.”

Nani then went on to talk about what effect his absence from the big games has had on his confidence.

“People expect more from me and it’s not easy,” he continued. “But they are also not doing what they said they were going to. I know it would be better if I scored more goals. I can have a spectacular game but nobody guarantees me I will be starting the next match. It shatters your confidence. I did not play the important matches, against Liverpool, Manchester City or Tottenham. Not playing these games, I am a bit sad. But for now I am not considering leaving.”

Is Ferguson going to sell Nani because he had a whinge in the paper? Probably not. But whilst Nani claims he is not considering leaving, it would be sensible for him to note that it isn’t really his decision, and having a little bitch in the press isn’t going to help his cause one bit!

only fear id have is him doin a forlan and bitin us in the arse a few years down the line, loan!!

  2. Tufty says:

Fergie will sell Nani as a result of his rant and abuse towards Fergie after being subbed in recent games. All this came to a head last week after the CSKA game and Nani was subsequently dropped from the squad for Chelsea.

Following his substitution against Bolton, he initially refused to go to the bench, preferring to walk towards the tunel before having his mind changed by other players.

These rumblings in the Portugese press (Initially before some UK press have picked up), are Nanis way of making it look like he wants to stay.

  3. King Eric says:

As much as I have tried to warm to him I am sorry I just can’t. I can’t put my finger on it but in my opinion and this will upset some he is never gonna be a United player.

  4. King Eric says:

PS Suffice to say his antics against West Ham a couple of seasons back and that sending off blotted his copybook for me.

  5. roonited says:

nani can go we’ve got obertan and tosic..these lads’ve got everything nani lacks

  6. Jack says:

papers chatting shit again, yawnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn, fergie or nani himself wil be out soon saying that no1 said nothing

  7. Briggsy says:

As a harden Man Utd supporter I really try to get behind the lad. But everytime I watch him play he just infuriates me. He can take people on, run with the ball and when get’s into a great position, but, his final ball and decision making is just pants.

Just thinking back to the Stoke game, watching Rooney getting really frustrated, means it’s not just the fans.

Plus with his moan about the bigger games – didn’t he play the full 90 minutes against Arsenal? And didn’t he do bugger all?

  8. andre_k says:

i quite like the bloke, and can understand a lack of confidence hindering his performances. However, talking to the press will not help him one bit!

And as for Obertan, the way some people are talking he’s the best in the world already! He may turn out to be a top player, he may not, but some people seem to think he is already our new no.11 (when giggsy hangs up his reeboks)!

  9. wazza (Bezi) says:

has had enough opportunities to impress but not consistently. sadly has to make way

  10. diavolorosso says:

As I said earlier … Nani ? Great control, good dribbling, good shot … can’t pass, can’t cross … such a pity : He’s a winger and until further notice priority for wingers is putting the ball in the middle, right time right place.

Giggsy’s been setting the example for years. Cristiano, Patrice, Gary Neville and even John O’Shea too. Now after only a few minutes on the pitch even Obertan’s already showing him the way. Will he ever learn to pass & cross ?

If he doesn’t button it then probably he’ll have to learn elsewhere …

  11. 20LEgend says:

Agreed about Obertan but he deserves a start based on the performance in the reserves, and the sub appearances. Nani has had more than enough chances but I am yet to see him have one game in the Ronaldo quality category. I am all for giving players a chance but now it’s Obertan’s and if he cocks up and Nani gets another chance, maybe he’ll be better for it.

  12. TheTipIsRed says:

Oy! Did Nani not learn anything from Tevez? Pity, I agree with Scott with the patience we need to afford him, but this is United. Crying to the press isn’t a dignified gesture.

  13. SteniS says:

He has such talent and it would be a great shame if he didn’t make a breakthrough at United. If he does leave, it wouldn’t surprise me a bit if he’d finally have a great breakthrough and become a top class winger. The pressure at United might, however, eventually become too much and I fear that his self confidence isn’t too good. His attacking abilites are more diverse than both Valencia and Park with plenty of neat dribbling and tricks in his locker. Maybe he needs the expectations toned down just a bit so that he’ll get some peace of mind.

  14. Tufty says:

Nani is not Ronaldo and anyone saying things such as “Ive yet to see him have one game in the Ronaldo category” is expecting far to much.
Thats the problem Nani has, people instantly try and comapre him to Ronaldo and its unfair on him and any player to do that.
Nani has had some great games for United, what he needs is confidence.
I feel in some games he is far to weak and goes down far to easily against a stronger defender. He offers more attacking wise than Valencia or Park.

  15. Superhans says:

Lets just cut our losses with Nani. He would probably go for a decent price because he has got talent, thats for sure. Why do we need him anyway?

What about Obertan stepping up for the place. When will we see Tosic given a chance? How come Tosic can be brilliant on an international level but not even getting a chance? Giggs can even play there once in a while.

Nani is 22 (i think) so he may have time to develop his footbaling, but the mindset of a player is set and developed much earlier than that. (in my opinion) And he has just showed what his mentality is like.

(if the reports are true. thats another matter)

  16. Xyth says:

Nani has brought this upon himself. He should not have concentrated on his country’s make or break match and not talked about United at all. He should have known better that what ever he says it will be blown out proportion.

You cannot wash dirty linen in public and then return as if nothing happened. Just ask Stam, Becks, Ruud and Keano.

  17. Dan says:

His attitude was summed up when he was subbed for Obertan in the Blackburn match when he took about 2 minutes to mope off the pitch in Kevin-and-Perry-stroppy-teenager fashion. (Manners makyth man, Ninny – try developing some!) He had been his usual exasperating self that afternoon – all jiggery and no pokery. Obertan came on and despite running the ball out with his first move and missing from 4 yards, was a breath of fresh air. No wonder Ninny was gutted to come off.

These revelations in the Portuguese press don’t surprise me in the slightest – I think he’s got wind of Fergie’s plans to boot him and he’s trying to manufacture a speedier exit. We know (Vidic and Evra apart) that January purchases are a bit hit-and-miss, but I wouldn’t mind seeing the lad used as a makeweight for a deal.

And if he wants a lift to the airport – I’ll be happy to oblige!

  18. mdubya says:

nani is gonna be pretty class in spain or back in portugal…he’s not gonna be a world superstar but good in the league. my point is go ahead and sell him he’s never gonna cut it for us.

  19. Mangesh says:

To be honest Nani was really good against Arsenal. He was playing against quality players Sagna and Song. It was definitely brilliant performance considering our team looked jaded for most part of the match.

I agree partially with Nani about not being given run for more than 3 games but he should make most of the chances he gets from now on. He was good against Sunderland but did not play next game against Bolton. Then I thought his performance in Russia was good. He and Fabio linked up brilliantly many times that game but then again he was dropped for next 2 games. In last 2 games he was nothing short of frustrating. He must show consistency in his performance from now on.

  20. Ulster Red says:

im gald nani has siad this, hopefully fergie gets rid once and for all

  21. John Ferry says:

@ Mangesh, I agree with all you’ve said. But, this nani situation is starting to smell like the tevez thing from last year. I predict his next comments will be about how much he loves the fans. The fact is that this current crop of young United players are not given the playing time that Rooney and Ronaldo had.

  22. wazza (Bezi) says:

@Tufty : Nani is consistently inconsistent. he lacks the vision(head down) , timing of releasing the pass and does not read situations well.

  23. Tufty says:

I would say our whole teams inconsistent, from team selection to performances. You cant compare a 70 min performance against that of a subs 20 min performance.

  24. Fze123 says:

If he really is not considering leaving then he better put in 100% effort when ever he get’s the chance to start and make good decisions when playing. This lad has got tons of potentional and is hugely talented, although he needs to be consistent and not strop or whine to the press when not given enough starting places like a certain cunt used to.

He’s the only person who can change his future and choose one of two pathways. Pathway 1: whinge in the press about Fergie’s impatience, not bothering to turn up in games out of attitude, which will result in him being sold in jan. Pathway 2: Start competing with Obertan for the left flank by producing excellent performances, training everyday and slowly become a superstar and regular first teamer.

If someone sets his mind on something, he can do it.

  25. Sir_Ryan_Giggs_For_PM says:

    What the fuck?
Fuckin disgrace…How in the world is this going to help his cause? What an idiot Nani…’Fuck’ this and ‘fuck’ that…Hahaha we love you fergie

  26. Chan the man says:

Good to know, Fergie treats everyone one equally!!

  27. Tonybee says:

    Fergie, Fergie, sell him on
    Fergie sell him on
    Fergie, Fergie sell him on,
    Fergie sell him on

and good riddance too, never was a Utd player, no heart or bottle.
Jealous as fuck of Ronaldo, thought he would be the dogs bollocks after Ronnie left, but has now seen the impact Obertan has made and is wondering if he will even make the bench….surplus to requirements get fucking rid.

  28. supermanc says:

Nani has finally been introduced to the English (& Scottish langauge)! Nani is a skillful player, but there is too many buts!!! I have been saying for ages how Nani cannot pass, and fail to be a team player in the biggest of teams in the world! Thank GOD (Sir Alex) for the introduction of Obe-tan-kanobi to Old Trafford because now we have a player who can influence the the game abd bring others into play! Obe you have the Force to oust Nani!

  29. Behmermanc says:

Nani will never cut it for us, I say good riddance. Obertan already looks like he’ll make a bigger impact in the game, everytime I watch Nani he frustrates the hell out of me. Hell work the wing, burn one or two players and then bam the other team has the ball because Nani hesitated to shoot or pass. Hes got skills just not a smart player. Get Rid of Him.

  30. DebRed says:

Fuck this and Fuck that…hahaha….and the oldest players get the worst…
No wonder Sir Alex has had so much success. You may be anyone but if you dont play well you will get the boot(some time in the face).

  31. andre_k says:

mark my words – if we get rid, it will come back to bite us on the bum…

  32. Stephen says:

He simply hasn’t got it as a United player, doesn’t work hard enough has too much arrogance with nothing to back it up, plays with his head down, poor decision making saying that he would fit well in at Anfield.

  33. jpg says:

I think he’s got bags of talent but I don’t think he’s the player for utd or that utd’s the club for him. By that I mean if he goes to say Spain he’d probably flourish because the game is slightly slower and more technical. But if he wants to stay here he is going to have to speed his game up, quicken his decision making and work harder – all three of which I seriously doubt will happen.

  34. Dimitar Berbatov is King says:

Sir Alex Ferguson we trust. And this is living proof. Heck, if he isn’t so hard on the players, I sincerely doubt how he could be this successful. No wonder the players got such a healthy respect for the manager.

Oh, and Nani? I don’t think we will really miss you when you are gone. In fact, even better if Man City decides to do a Tevez…I say we give Tosic, Obertan a chance. They are more hungry than Nani for chances. David Silva would be a nice addition in January as well in my humble opinion.

Those who leave know what they are missing. See how Beckham, Ronaldo miss the club? He should be thankful he got the chances, but he didn’t grab them.

  35. Vass says:

You’re not being fair to the lad at all. Everyone is expecting him to do the impossible and succeed Ronaldo and then criticize him for not living up to ridiculous expectations despite him not really playing any worse than the rest of the lads. He needs time, but not just time, what he needs is for people to get off his back and let him be himself, let him play his game and stop making him the scapegoat when things don’t quite go our way. I fully understand his frustration, because the pressure he’s been put under is ridiculous.

  36. Corea says:

Hmm, i kinda thought everyone at United is under the huge pressure.

  37. Gudjohnsen says:

What did we pay for Nani? 17 mills? We’re lucky if we can get half of that amount for him now.

I’ve always stated that Nani has the ability but he lacks the intelligence on the pitch, his decisions are often awful. This rant from Nani won’t help him getting in the starting eleven. Obertan coming on against Chelsea says it all, Fergie is losing patience.

But I’m sure if we sell Nani to Spain he’ll do well, just like Forlan.

  38. LL13 says:

Bye bye, shut the door behind you please…………

  39. denton davey says:

Everyone – EVERYONE – knows that SAF’s hairdryer treatment is equally apportioned.

And, the fact is that Nani has not been used consistently like Valencia; and another fact is that Nani has not been used in his best position on the right. So, to me, his frustration is understandable. Clearly he thinks of himself as something more than just a squad player. BUT he has not consistently shown overall performances that equal his individual talents and until he can do that he’s between a rock and a hard place.

My own opinion is that it would be foolish to sell Nani – his value has probably dropped and anyone who would be wanting to buy him would feel that it’s a buyer’s market. I suppose that he could be used as a “makeweight” for, say, David Silva or David Villa but Valencia needs money or else they wouldn’t be sellers. So, selling him would be like revisiting the mistake with Forlan (or, to a lesser extent – and fully understandably) the impatience with LouisLouisHaHa.

So, I’d persist with him but I’d also give him a chance on the right to see if his suggestions that he’s out-of-position on the left is actually provable. It’s not as if Antonio Valencia has been like the second coming of Ryan Giggs or Andrei Kanchelskis.

  40. Red Jez says:

    Taxi for Nani!

  41. theboogeyman says:

    denton davey- Spot on.

I was just wondering whether Nani could be used as a striker? In the reserves maybe?

  42. kel says:

I’m really sorry for this lad. I have always defended him for his performance. But i like the attitude of the player more. If he is going to whine like tevez and ronaldo, then i can’t support him to stay in the club. he is beginning to have the attitude when he is being sub.

  43. Axeman says:

Doesn’t have the physical strengths to play as striker.. but he does play in some sweet through balls at time. remember the one he played in for owen’s first goal

  44. Nani says:

    In Nani We Trust

  45. Rferdinand says:

I’m sure nani is older than ronaldo so not like he’s got time on his side

  46. Evra's biggest fan says:

I think he should be given a run of games if he doesnt, consistency is the key for me if he doesnt impress then… sell him in the summer

  47. geotaz says:

Can be a very good player, but i think he isnt suited to this league, i think we should sell him on if he really does want to go. Obertan looks really good, we have tosic and giggs on that side aswell. We could always go for one of the best David Silva great player, not sure its fergie’s style, but then again who knows!

  48. Altonian says:

He’s played 85 fucking times and for about 83 of them he’s been wank. It’s not as if he’s 17 or 18, he’s 22 and settled in, he shouldn’t need a run of games to show how good he is. Even though he’s rarely played a number of games on the trot he should still have been able to make an impact on a good few of them but he simply hasn’t. Just because we spent £17m on him and he was from Sporting Lisbon we can’t take for granted that he’s going to be another Ronaldo. It’s a fact, he is never going to be in same class as Ronaldo nor will he ever be a replacement for him. Hopefully people will start to realise this soon and stop making excuses for him.

  49. Muggaz says:

    @Vass

Mate, no one is expecting him to be the next Ronaldo, alas, it is fair to expect him to beat the first man when he crosses a ball, or pass to a team mate rather than get caught in possesion, which he frequently does.

In all honesty, I have said it before, I’ll say it again – I hope the boy does a Fletcher and I go from moaning when his name is on the team sheet to moaning if he is left out… it is all up to the lad to address his failings and prove to SAF, the fans, and most of all himself, that he is a Red.

  50. Altonian says:

    @Vass:

Why are we not being fair? He cost £17m, of course we are going to have high expectations from him. The thing is he does consistently play worse than the majority of the team, yes other players do have the odd bad game, but Nani is consistently bad. How can you go on about giving him more time? He’s been at the club for 2 1/2 years now and has shown no sign of progress. And as for people getting off his back, please, he’s paid a stupid amount of money to play football, he should be able to cope with criticism. He isn’t been singled out, look at Berbatov, Foster and Ferdinand, all have taken more flack (far more publicly as well).

  51. Jay wire says:

When someone says “he cost £17m so we expect better from him”, I immediately stop reading. It’s one of the most stupid things ever and why people, especially English league fans keep saying it is beyond me. Do the players actually negotiate the amounts at which they are sold? Anyway, it is a material fact that Nani has not been played regularly enough to even try his hand at consistency. He played well in Russia and got dropped. Obertan has an impressive 10 or so minutes at home vs useless Blackburn and appears in consecutive matches. I’m not suggesting that the French player is not good enough. But if you’re Nani and you see such favoritism taking place you are gonna feel hard done by. It’s natural. Valencia wasn’t all that in his 1st games but he kept starting and Nani has been relegated to the bench if fortunate. It’s not a mystery that Ferguson has been greatly unfair to him especially having promised him more game time since Ronaldo’s departure. We can’t honestly expect him to play confidently if his confidence is being shot at. “Fergie is fair”. That’s ridiculous. If he was then Nani would have been treated fairly as well. But then going to the media was the dumbest thing he did. This may be the final nail on the coffin. Especially given the fact that the manager has had to deal with crap from the FA in the same week and then he reads about Nani calling him a “a very complicated” and trash talking man.

  52. Williamkulha says:

It’s a difficult situation because we cannot afford to have an off form player on the pitch especially on the wing with how the seasons going but without starting time and consecutive matches you can’t expect the lad to get back on form. With obertan playing well he might be out which would be unfortunate as the lad has quality, perhaps after the new year well be better off in the table and nani can have his chance to prove himself.

  53. Altonian says:

    @Jay wire

Read before commenting in future, I merely stated that with such a high price tag high expectations come with it. It’s not favouritism though is it, Nani has had his chance and hasn’t taken it. I’m not sure what you’ve been watching but I’ve not seen what I’d consider a ‘good performance’ by him once this season. When Obertan has come on, albeit only small cameo’s at the end of a game, he’s showed promise and had impact on the game. Nani’s played 85 games, if he can’t show enough promise or put in more than a handful of good games in he can’t be expect to become a regular. The problem lies with people and the player himself thinking he’s better than he is.

  54. bchilds says:

Nani Not Considering Leaving? – I hope that’s incorrect.

IF he said what apparantly he said and I’m IF cus we all know how the media can twist things then he’s just not getting it. He has to improve his game, Sir Alex isn’t going to drop a player if it’s at the detriment of the team – make sure you CAN’T be dropped from the team!

  55. King Eric says:

Got to agree with Altonian. He has not turned in ONE GOOD performance in my opinion this season. Yet people STILL want him to get a chance. Can these people honestly say hand on heart that they think he will become a United player? Everytime he gets the ball I actually EXPECT him to give it away now. Sorry but he is not gonna make it at United. I hope I am wrong but you normally get a feeling after only a handful of games or even appearances whether they are gonna make it or not. Sadly for Nani it’s the latter.

  56. Tonybee says:

king eric . spot on ….the lads a lightweight so shift him on….

  57. Altonian says:

    @bchilds – I don’t think it’ll be his choice in the end :)

  58. stretford972 says:

we’ve all been wonderin why nani’s been shit despite havin a load of talent and this situation answers it. The guys a pussy, there’s a bit where he says giggs and scholes get it the most, thats because they take it and come back stronger, hence they still perform to this day. On this evidence, nani will have a sulk and a bitch. Fuck him off, he’s been the weak point in the team all season after havin a good run in the team. Give obertan a go (which looks like might be happenin) or get di maria in january

  59. Darknight says:

Nani has not been as good as we expected (when we bought him), heck he has been irritating at the most… But then I cant help shrug of the feeling that he was meant to be a forward… However him bad mouthing SAF was the final straw…

  60. Serpentor says:

I really pity Nani, he gets hardly enough games to start, and even if he does starts, Alex takes him out in the 2nd half imaterial whether he performs well or not. He is young and with the World Cup around the corner, he is for sure wants to start more games to get into the Portugal squad, I simply feel that Alex shows more favourtism in selecting players he likes. Can anyone tell me what in the world does JS Park does for united other then running like a mad dog. He doesn’t score, he does’t create chances but he still gets selected for more games then Nani……If Nani does leave united, I bet Alex is going to be the loser, look at Gerad Pique, Forlan, Tevez who are all doing well after leaving united……Nani has my support…..
