Nev: Owen Is Ideal Now Tevez Has Gone

Gary Neville wasn’t best pleased with Carlos Tevez’s goal celebration where the Argie cupped his ears after scoring at Old Trafford. It appears as though there is no love lost between the pair with Neville looking forward to the impact of Owen now Tevez has departed (and is likely to join the bitters).

“He is at Manchester United because the gaffer believes he can score goals,” Neville said. “He is ideal now Carlos Tevez is gone. He has an opportunity to play at the highest level, at one of the biggest clubs in the world and of course, possibly regain his England place – but that will be at the discretion of the manager.”

    Gary Neville is a red…

  2. Gudjohnsen says:

I love Gary Neville but I do hope he will join our coaching staff soon instead of serving as backup for the right back. But he is still a great asset to the club,a true red that is very professional and great in the locker room (according to many players). I think he’ll make a great coach/manager someday…

Not a big surprise to see G.Neville despise Tevez, lol….

  3. Justice for Heysel says:

More arse licking by Nev the Red

  4. Gotta hate tiny tears says:

tevez insulting sir alex got under my skin as a manchester united fan
but can you imagine what it felt like to players who see sir alex as like a father

  5. Gudjohnsen says:

@GHTT – True, I’m sure Neville, Giggs and Scholes wanted to smack Tevez around for his disrespect and childish behavior…

  6. Stephen says:

Justice for Heysel, mate he is the club captain he has to tow the party line, not “arse lick”.

  7. willierednut says:

fcuk scarface of topic shity in talks to sign adebayor.

  8. AIG Alex is GOD says:

Sometimes it is better to keep ur mouth shut.dats what tevez had to do and he didnt do it

i remeber he said in november last year dat he did not mind Berbatov arriving because he was used to fighting for his place and working hard.wonder what hppened 8 months later.

Tevez shud show some repect to The boss.he has been in management befort the cunt was even born and SAF is not the most successful manger in Club football for nothing.

as for not starting in the champions league final, maybe SAF learnt from his mistake of starting Tevez in FA Cup semi and Carling cup Final when all he did was shitted around the pitch.so the decision to drop him was justified

  9. daveob82 says:

Didn’t they say that the ear cupping incident was aimed at the press…. whatever……

I said it months ago that he wasn’t worth what they wanted for him….. he has never lit up any goal scoring charts…… should fit in well with the other 15 strikers at the Wastelands…..

He is in for some shock with the abuse he is gonna get when he comes back to OT….

  10. Costas says:

If the Red who hates Scousers is talking like that about Owen and Tevez, you can only imagine how pissed off the locker room must have been at Tevez.

  11. theboogeyman says:

True,Costa.I bet Neville would have done something to Owen to make sure Mikey knew that Gary Neville is a red,and he hates Scousers.

  12. Mitty says:

    And Tevez is not.

  13. RedMegleeker says:

    Slow news day?

  14. Jack says:

SKY SPORTS NEWS UNDERSTANDS OWEN WILLL WEAR NUMBER 7 SHIRT THIS SEASON….WHATTTTTTTTT

  15. Gotta hate tiny tears says:

    sky sports are reporting
    owen
    7
    get your shirts a printed

  16. Jack says:

and fergie said we wont be buying no1 else

  17. willierednut says:

sky are saying owen will get the number 7 shirt and there will be no more signings this summer.

  18. MUFC the Religion says:

Fergie says there will be no more signings.

    And Owen is 7

What the fuck is happening. Why isn’t Valencia getting 7.

  19. willierednut says:

The moneys going straight in2 the glaziers pocket.

  20. TinManUnited says:

I can remember the look on G.Nev’s face after Ronaldo threw a tantrum when being substituted. G.Nev is a red.

  21. Stephen says:

Do we need more players? and what has Valencia done to desereve the 7 shirt?

  22. Tufty says:

Just because we have money, doesnt mean we have to rush out and spend it all at once. Better to buy quality layers who enhance the team and who we want, than a 4th choice player.

  23. ancha says:

    no more signings ?!!….thats sad!!
and number 7 to owen….thats a shocking news and i am disappointed with that if it is true….guess this wont go down well with the fans!

  24. wakey says:

Personally I’m going to take Fergies “No-one else” too serious. It could be a negotiating tactic to put a few teams on the backfoot rather than trying to fleece us. Either that or there are deals in place but the players not joining us immediately. There was a rumour that Aguero would stay in Spain this season before joining us next and I could see Costa staying on loan in Brazil to maybe aid his Work Permit application

  25. willierednut says:

I think this is one of SAF mind games at least 1 more forward cant see who’s gonna get the goals nxt season.

  26. Gotta hate tiny tears says:

If united sign a striker then rooneys on the wing I’m happy the longer united went without gettin a midfielder the better the news is for hargreeves. Owen number 7 will be on an away shirt I think

  27. Costas says:

Owen doesn’t deserve United’s number 7 shirt. Leave it vacant until someone worthy comes along. Or give it to Fletcher for crying out loud!

I said it this morning. In terms of numbers, we are covered. But we haven’t replaced Ronaldo’s spark and ability to create something unique. Enjoy the Ronaldo money Glazers.

  28. jamos9 says:

7 to Owen cant be true….can it? I was of the thinking it would be reserved for a flair player or someone that’s United through and through?

I hope SAF’s pulling a fast one and we still might have 1 more maybe Costa in the bank? If not the moneys being saved for next seasons impending departures of Giggs, Nev, Vds, Scholes as thats gonna be some void to fill.

Or maybe we’re skint and it’s being used to service the debt?

  29. Red-Manc says:

Owen is getting number 7 ? are you fucking with me.

That signing gets stranger and stranger, fair play to him though i think he will do well and it pisses off the scousers just that bit more.

Micheal Owen number 7, who would of thought it haha

  30. TinManUnited says:

Costas, not that I am a Glazer proponent, but they have been pretty supportive of what Fergie has done so far. And you know it is upto SAF on what players he wants to bring in. Its always nice to see new players come in, but I really think the whole dynamics of the team will change now that Ronaldo is gone. I think we will see some more creativity from everyone else now.

  31. willierednut says:

Wazza and berba have to step up nxt season and start putting the chances away the two of em have never been out and out goalscorers, lets hope they start nxt season.

  32. ELiam says:

Lets not get on Owens back cause he is going to wear the number 7 shirt, its not his fault he has been given the shirt, is it ?

  33. Gotta hate tiny tears says:

I’ll see any doubters in may if they don’t like the Owen 7 idea if united did go for torres, a player I think is overrated, would anyone mind him gettin number 7

  34. Costas says:

@TinManUnited : I am not denying that we could see people like Nani and Berbatov come more into their own. But i truly believe that the money is gone. I didn’t want us to panic buy, but i think that after a year no one will remember we ever had them. That’s what the Glazers are banking on.

  35. Kings says:

Roughly translated……….good riddance Tevez you fucking judas cunt.

  36. Gotta hate tiny tears says:

Just cause united got 80 million doesn’t mean united have to spend 80 million , sir Alex is not panic with a bit of money rafa. Wonderful summer made some fantastic signings

  37. willierednut says:

    @ghtt
    Torres overated are you sure.

  38. Jack says:

i agree with ghtt, his overated, trys to take everyone on and gets tackled most of the time and his so lazy but ya dont see him get slated like berbagod does…most of his goals are put on a plate for him, im sure if rooney was more greedy he could score more than torres.

  39. Gotta hate tiny tears says:

Fantastic finisher of the ball one of the best in world football at the moment but for 90 mins or even a team player I think he’s overrated

  40. Costas says:

GHTT, of course we shouldn’t spend 80 million. But if you look at it, we spent none of it. Valencia was part of our annual budget anyway. If you have 80 million to spend and you get 2 players for free(the French kid’s fee came from the Campbell sale), it means that that money may never be available for us. At some point(whether it’s the summer of 2010 or 2011) we would have needed that money.

  41. Jack says:

good finisher and thats all need when your a striker most of the time but his all round game? rooney > torres.

  42. NiteRunner79 says:

Looks like our summer spending is all done if this article is true http://www.usatoday.com/sports/soccer/2009-07-13-1901695430_x.htm

Fucking Glazer must be wanking all the way to the bank.

  43. Stephen says:

Torres is overrated spot on GHTT.

  44. NiteRunner79 says:

    Just seen the above sorry.

  45. Costas says:

NiteRunner it is true. Ferguson has said that. Don’t know what to say anymore. Should have seen this coming when we sold Ronaldo with no resistance whatsoever. That was evident of some people’s depseration to get cash.

  46. porter says:

no more signings, that IS a bit disappointing

  47. willierednut says:

    @Jack
Thats the biggest load of shit ive ever heard any1 speak, i hate the dippers as much as any united fan but torres in my opinion is a top class forward, lazy he is not id have em at OT any 1 else agree.

  48. Jack says:

lazy he is not haha ok when do u ever seee him running around? helping out? he just stands on the other goalkeepers line..overated…cheeeers..rooney > torres

  49. Gotta hate tiny tears says:

And if the club is in debt which it is if we can buy a player for what we payied for Ronaldo make so much money off his back in 3 seasons by stickin his name and face on everything win everything with him then sell him for 80 million and get 3 top signings ,2 I know of, out of our normal buget then let the 80 get this club out of debt.

  50. Jack says:

i didnt say he wasnt a top class foward did i ? just overated.

  51. Anon says:

WTF?! MICHAEL OWEN THE NEW NUMBER 7?!

  52. Costas says:

You are right GHTT. The problem is that sources from the Glazers said that the Ronaldo money would be at Fergie’s disposal. So they probably lied. Not that 80 million will help significantly with the crippling debts that they loaded the club with.

  53. Stephen says:

Top class but overrated in his last two seasons at Atletico he scored 13 and 15 goals last season he scored 17 Ok he suffered from injuries but you could call the season before last a one off, this is why he is overrated.

  54. willierednut says:

He run vida ragged at OT id have em at united.

  55. Gotta hate tiny tears says:

I know people love torres and I see there point he’s just not a Manchester united player . Costa I understand what your saying but when I heard 80 million for Ronaldo I taught real are fuckin thick I’d hate united to spend 80 million in one window on 1 player or 8 players sir Alex has built this club that that never needs to be the way.

  56. Micky says:

    @Anon

Not your fault, but that article is gay.

Can’t even call the great man by his title… It’s Sir Alex, not Alex..!

  57. Marq says:

Costas, I don’t think it is a good thing to presume the Glaizers lied. Maybe Sir Alex really think we are ok with what we have? Rooney, Berbatov & Owen all have alot to prove and we all know they are capable of stepping up a few gears, it is now a question of whether Sir Alex can bring the best out of them. And if you really talk about spending, who do you think we can bring in to improve the squad?
    1) Ribery -> Not chance, too expensive and a galatico wannabe, stay away!
    2) Yaya -> What makes you think he would want to leave a treble winning team?
    3) Douglas -> He won’t be a first teamer, so no point, esp not at 20M
    4) Sanchez -> Some UAE club is interested in him, makes you wonder how good he really is
    5) De Rossi -> He is Roma through & through like Totti

  58. King Eric says:

Costas mate do you honestly think the Glazers would say to Sir Alex that he is not having any of Ronnies sale proceeds? He would walk pal, simple as.

  59. wakey says:

Despite saying it is the end of our business he also made comments about there still being alot of time before the transfer window ends so who knows. He also made a pointed comment about the figures people are quoting being ridiculous.

I suspect that with gremio wanting the $21million USD upfront and united only wanting to pay $11million USD upfront and with other clubs no doubt adding millions to their price tag due to Real, City and to a lesser extent Chelsea its him saying “We don’t need to sign anyone and won’t be held to ransom so take the money or forget it”

I’m still confident we will see atleast Costa added to our numbers once we play hardball with them
