Neville and Rafael Close… Wes No Chance

Manchester United have been playing with a fourth choice right-back over the past couple of months, following the injuries to Rafael da Silva, Gary Neville and Wes Brown.

Sir Alex Ferguson has today confirmed that Neville is close to returning and might even be in the squad for the weekend. Rafael isn’t far behind, whilst there’s still no positive news on Wes.

“Gary’s had an injury but he could be in the squad,” said Ferguson. “He’s done a full week’s training, coupled with a 10-day remedial programme he completed before that. He’s done very well and hopefully that’s him back now. Rafael is now on the 10-day remedial course that Gary was on and we’re hoping he can join in with full training towards the end of next week. Unfortunately Wes still isn’t near that part.”

What the hell is wrong with Brown? I love Rafael, am starting to like Neville again but I still believe that Brown is the best right back we have. Last season he was the pioneer in our double winning road. I want him back! =(

  2. Giles Oakley says:

I feel desperately sorry for Wes as his career has been so badly affected by injury year after year. Given how many seasons he’s missed out on it’s amazing how many medals he’s got, and testament to his qualities as a player. I always love it when kids come through the ranks like him, and if United win any more trophies this year I hope Wes is among those who qualify for a medal, which looks unlikely for the premiership as he’s missed so many games already.

  3. costas says:

Wes started a couple of games early on and did 1-2 substitute appearances in January. He might still gave a chance for a medal Giles.I don’t know what the hell is wrong and my problem is that SAF has been very cryptic about this. Why not tell us what’s the problem?I always felt that all 3 right backs woud be in contention after the international break.I don’t know anymore.

  4. costas says:

He is our most balanced right back.Neville is reaching the end of his playing days,Rafael is still learning and O’Shea is limited.

  9. Colbert says:

What’s up with Wes? Not a single newspaper has reported the injury status of these players, including the Manchester Evening News.

I wish Fergie would be a little more forthcoming in respect of Wes.

  10. Rooney says:

there is like a 2 week break after fullham so rafeal should be ready by then right?

  11. JB says:

Wes is recovering from a broken bone in his foot (metatarsal, I think). It happened in training, while he was trying to come back after the ankle surgery.

  12. costas says:

Of course you are right JB.The problem is SAF never said anything. We found out about the metatarsal, days before the San Siro game and through a newspaper.I really hope he comes back soon.

  13. Passe says:

    We’ve got Wesley Brown.
