Welbeck really does deserve to be played at center forward, rather than being out on the wing. That said, he was OK on Sunday - he passed the ball crisply into the box and was desperately unlucky that the keeper stopped his shot at the beginning of the second half. When I watched most the first half again on replay, I realized that I was being unfair to Berbatov. He didn't do nothing - he made one stunning pass to Rooney (which led to the one-on-one with the keeper that was almost-inadvertently stopped by his trailing, flailing leg) but, apart from that, he did sweet fuck-all.

Its taken 24 hours to calm down, i've read all the comments and agreed with a lot of them but we should all take a chill pill and look at the facts.

We had 4 outfield players over 22 years old, yes we expect better. We are Man United, of course we do, and so we should. but tell me any player ever who plays their best footbal under the age of 25 and realises their potential. Not 1, ever, since the dawn of time.

Did Fergie underestimate Leeds midfield. I think in hindsight he would agree. We fielded 19,20,21 & 22 year olds across the middle and although at times they done ok at other times they were bossed. I don't know the age of the leeds midfield but boy were they hungry and seemed to have more experience.

Do not believe the crap you will read in the press about these "kids" not being good enough. Both Gibson and Fletcher are both more advanced than Fletcher was 3 years ago and he is now one of the outstanding combative midfielders in the PL. Obertan (and Valencia) need at least a year before they are judged (remember Vidic & Evra). Welbeck needs to play down the middle with a big experienced centre forward to show his best until he makes his mark. The twins are Brazilian and are learning how to defend (They are brazilian ffs)

So c'mon, we are UNITED, keep the faith with the Fergie masterplan

I have had a few days to mull over this shocking result .
Firstly , playing a kid in Welbeck in his wrong position is not going to give the lad confidence. The reason he got into the 1st team was because of his position as a striker. There is no hiding place and that leads me to think that is the main reason why SAF plays him wide. Also I think SAF believed Welbeck could be an Henry type of player and there are similarities but obviously we are not looking at the finished product.
So I believe he will come good.
Secondly, simply buying someone now will not have a massive impact on the team. Its just difficult and unrealistic for SAF us or the coaching staff and fans to expect a player bought in january to simply galvanise the team and for them to be transformed into a world class machine demolishing all teams they come across playing vintage United football and attacking and defending with intelligence and tacticle awareness and intensity.
I would simply love it if Mame Diouf became the trigger or catylist for United to become this team we all want to see not only performing well but
getting the right result

King Eric @ 17:07: "How did Ronaldo go on last night “winning” the game for Madrid against Osasuna?"

I actually watched about thirty minutes of that game. Ronaldo was played out on the wing and seemed to be commanded to feed the ball inside to Higuain and Benzema. Bad strategy. It didn't work. I think that Pelligrini (the Madrid coach) seems to have learned nothing about CR's value to his team.

Ronaldo is a very, very, very selfish player but he's goddamned good at getting the ball to bulge the old onion basket. SAF had the right idea in structuring the team to funnel the ball in to Ronaldo because he's greedy for glory - and can do the business, too. Like the man said, "it ain't bragging 'cos I can do it".

I know that there's no point crying over spilt milk but just imagine how good UTD would be with Ronaldo playing as the #9 and Rooney as the # 10, Valencia feeding them the ball from the right flank, and Patrrice Evra doing his thing down the left side of the pitch. With those four attackers, SAF could play ThreeLungPark all the time and it wouldn't matter.

Watching the post-Ronaldo UTD's attack splutter makes me think of the MasterCard advert: "priceless". When he signed Dimmy in August, 2008, SAF must have believed that he had found a way to transition from a Ronaldo-centric team to a Rooney-centric one but so far, unfortunately, the evidence for that transition has been disappointing and frustrating.

regardless of what people have said i believe that berbatov is a very good player but we have to realize that he is a good goal creator not a great goal getter. also anderson is a good young player but he is not the solution of our attacking midfield problems. so i am not changing my opinion that we need to buy a striker or a goal scoring attacking midfielder or both,

but apart from this i am also thinking about what has been the common thing about all the defeats this season and to a certain extent the CL final and have concluded that the reason for poor performances in those games is the lack of coordination between players and that is because of the change in formation and the rotation we have done in these games either due to injury or to give some other players a chance. my main point is that the players develop better understanding by playing constantly with the same set of players and that transforms into good coordinated football. we all saw the immediate effects when valencia and giggs came on as subs to support berba, rooney. our attacks became better and we could have even levelled the game. so, my message to SAF would be to limit changes to a minimum specially in the midfield because it might just be the solution to some of the problems.

TSS - You said: "It’s a total misconception that Beckford is our main man. He’s good, but Snoddy and Johnson are far more important as they run the show. We’ll get a replacement easily enough. There’s plenty of players as good as Beckford out there that would love the chance to play for Leeds and SG is already looking into it. Becks would be daft to leave in my opinion, but it’s not the same as you losing… let’s say… Ronaldo…"

Interesting that on a poll on your website, when asked how much you should get for Beckford, a massive 25% wouldn't quote a price, but opted for "He's priceless to Leeds United." You think he's easily replaced, a quarter of your fan base think he's priceless.

We're second in the league, top of our group in the CL and in the semis of the League Cup without Ronaldo. Where you will be without Beckford is yet to be known.

King Eric-I have tried to warm to Carrick and have always praised him when he deserves it. The problem is that while he is a great passer of the ball he doesn't do it often enough. He also goes missing far too often in games. I just think that he gets too intimidated at old Trafford. When did he last take a game by the scruff of the neck and drive United on to victory!! Fergie really needs to buy a creative midfielder and fast.
