There were no surprises on Thursday night when Mason Greenwood was named Youth Team Player of the Year. He’s scored 45 goals in 41 appearances in the youth teams this season, as well as claiming 10 assists.

The youngster has spoken about the season just gone and his hopes for the future at United.

I think it’s been an enjoyable season. But I’ve had help from the coaches and my team-mates, so if it wasn’t for them I wouldn’t be up here tonight.

I just work hard on finishing after every training session. I just try and score in all the training games, so that helps me and I just try and do it in the games.

Hopefully I’ll get more chances in the first-team to show what I can do. But I am going to carry on working hard until then.

Marcus Rashford won this award three years ago and Greenwood has reflected on what an inspiration the first team striker is to him.

He is an inspiration for all the Academy. It’s nice to see that someone can make it and we all want to have the same journey that he has.
