Following Manchester United’s 1-0 win over Inter Milan, where Mason Greenwood scored the winning goal, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was full of praise for the young players in the post-match press conference. He claimed that Axel Tuanzebe was the future of the club, talked up 17-year-old Mason Greenwood’s chances of getting plenty of playing time in the season ahead and praised Aaron Wan-Bissaka for adapting to United so quickly.

Mason’s a natural finisher. He’s practising, of course, don’t get me wrong. He just knows where the ball is going to end up and land sometimes. You get players like this and he’s a natural goalscorer. He’s only 17 but, then again, why not enjoy it? I know he’s enjoying himself, enjoys football and he is going to enjoy every minute he gets and he’ll get a few, to be fair.

I thought Aaron was growing and growing in confidence and is getting used to his team-mates. His performance was a good one, as were so many of his team-mates’ performances. Every one of the players today can look back on his performance and say they were happy.

You see the confidence in the kids when they get minutes under their belts and play against very good players. They play with team-mates, first-team players they have maybe been looking up to and now, suddenly, they’re with them. They’ve great skill, all of them, and I know they’re ready to perform at this level.
