O’Shea Out For The Season

John O’Shea hasn’t played for United since our 1-0 defeat against Chelsea at the beginning of November.

Sir Alex Ferguson has today confirmed that will probably have been his last appearance of the season.

“He’s got a terrible injury at the moment,” Ferguson said. “It’s one of those sorts of injuries that are unusual. It’s like a dead leg except a dead leg is usually only three or four days. The problem is that the blood clot became all knotted and when it gets knotted you get calcification so therefore it’s a long process to clear that up and he’ll probably miss the season now. It’s a bad blow for the boy and for the team because he can play anywhere. When you look at all the problems I’ve had with the back four this season, he could have played every single one.”

    Gutted I am. Damn gutted.

    Sheasy does a tremendous job for us as an exceptional utility player. Times like these makes me feel sick to the core; on how i take players like O’Shea etc for granted..our success in the BPL all these years can be attributed equally as much to the genuises of Ronaldo, Rooney et al as to the awesomeness of ‘average’ players like O’Shea, Park, Brown and Co.

    Get well soon, Sheasy!

  2. Big Bad Wesley Brown says:

    I fear for his career with our medical team looking after him…

  3. aig alex is god says:

    Leeds defeat, City defeat, Berbas on/off knee surgery issue, the massive debt making the headlines, no money to spend,poor and inconsistent league form and now this

    Some good news please. i am suffocating. Every day there is some bad news.

  4. Red Devil says:

    Absolutely terrible news….
    Could the day have gotten any worse….

    Sometimes, you just feel so helpless…have just been going through the figures for Red Football Joint venture, the holding company and it doesnt look good at all….I just hope there is a bumper response to this bond issue so that those murderous PIK loans can be paid-off, otherwise it looks increasingly difficult for us. All these Finance degrees and education of mine look hollow and pointless at this juncture when I see my beloved United going down the drain and am absolutely helpless in doing anything to stop it. Just feel like crying my heart out…
    God damn you Glazers…may you burn in hell.

  5. Red Devil says:

    @ AIG
    morning mate….
    Suffocating….you said it friend

  6. Costas says:

    @Big Bad Wesley Brown

    Spot on. So it only took them 2 months to realise that he will miss the rest of the season? How incompetent are they?

    Expect Hargo back in 2014 guys.

  7. Costas says:

    And it is a bitter blow for us, because as Fergie said, Sheasy could have played anyone of the last 15 games he has missed.

    And the right back curse continues. Our regular full back for one season, misses the entire following season. Neville in 07-08, Brown in 08-09 and now John.

  8. five says:

    Rafael better watch out for a sniper then!

    Gutted. one of my favorite players hope you come back alright John!

  9. aig alex is god says:

    Costas

    Hi. Good morning

    I also fear Berbatov could be playing his few games of the season and when he will inevitably have to go under the knife it will be a lengthy lay off for him. maybe 6-8 months

  10. Costas says:

    @AIG

    Hi. You think? I don’t know the extent of Berba’s problem, but under normal circumstances, it shouldn’t take him more than 2-3 months. Luckily, Michael Owen proved on Tuesday that he deserves more time. Lets just hope that Berba lasts the season, unless (and this is a worst case scenario) we might have nothing to play for by the middle of March.

    It’s safe to say that with our medical team, the best chance an injured player has of making it back on schedule, is not to get injured at all!

  11. aig alex is god says:

    Costas

    I know its 2-3 months but with our medical team they may get him back prematurely or something like that and his injury may worsen just as he is playing through the pain now. His injury may worsen due to this. We must remember he is 29 not 24 like Rooney.

    Owen must get his chances now. Actually i am surprised because everyone apart from him has been injured at some point this season . Oh and apart from Evra too.

  12. aig alex is god says:

    @costas

    he was injured in september for 2 weeks but given his record that isnt much,is it?

  13. Tony Starks says:

    strange how our players always seem to get injuries that seem incurable.. too many players with injuries that don’t get dealt with properly. obviously we don’t know the inside info but but are these medical people not supposed to be professionals?

  14. California Devil says:

    C’mon Owen, we need your magic.

  15. Giles Oakley says:

    AIG Alex and Red Devil summed up my feelings exactly, nothing is going right at present, and the financial situation has me more scared – and angry – than anything I can recall in United’s past. There are just no precedents for what’s happened, and I wonder how the hell it could have been allowed in the first place.

    Then on top of everything else there’s this bad news over John O’Shea. It’s really tough on him, and I wish him the very best for a speedy recovery. I’m glad all his good qualities are now being remembered now that we are deprived of his services. He’s never complained, never risen to the sniping at him by certain so-called fans, just gets on with the job, playing in almost as many positions as Johnny Carey, and remains one of the best-liked players in the club. He’s a good lad, and let’s hope this calcification clears up quicker than expected.

  16. Costas says:

    @AIG

    Yeah, I wouldn’t call that a serious injury. He pulled something, he rested it and he came back after 10 days. Luckily for Michael, he probably didn’t even need our medical team’s advice, lol. Also, we have to say for Owen, that he has been streched by the manager.

    So far, Evra, Foster, Kus, Gibson and I think Ando are the only ones who haven’t been injured.

    Was Rooney injured in October or was it just the birth of his child?

  17. Long John O'Shea says:

    More bad news… it never rains but it pours….

  18. aig alex is god says:

    @Giles Oakley

    Hi. How are you sir?

    Spot on about O’ Shea. So many fans call him poor and not ‘united standard’. Now when he has been ruled out those same fans wish he was fit. He really did a good job towards the end of last season and this season before getting injured. His versatility is a big asset to the team

  19. Costas says:

    @Giles Oakley

    I read your update in another topic recently. I hope you are doing better. Personally, I always liked John, but it’s good to see that others appreciate him in his absence. The game on Tuesday in particular, was one where he would have hekped out a lot.

  20. aig alex is god says:

    @Costas

    dont think he was injured.It was due to the birth of his child. God Forbid, but if anything happens to Rooney we are doomed for the season. He along with fletch and evra are the only shining lights so far in the season.

  21. bigphil2003 says:

    John O will be a way bigger loss than a lot of casual fans realise. Wesley has been poor at CB this season but I wonder can he now do a job at RB if we can get Vidic or Rio back.
    All i can say is: BLOODY INTERNATIONALS!!!!!

  22. Costas says:

    @AIG
    Same here mate. Oh and Valencia too. He has been injury free this season, and as stated yesterday, he is our only player who has improved as the season has moved on.

  23. Nailer says:

    Hey Scott,

    I recognise that comment… where did you get it from? I’m a student in Trinty College, Dublin, and SAF was adressing one of our societies last night. Heard him say these very words, direct from the horses mouth! Do you know someone who was at it, (a tiny room of 250 seats, about 70 or which were journos) or has it gone up online somewhere?

    Conor

  24. aig alex is god says:

    @Costas

    yeah. Forgot to mention Valencai in the above post. He really has improved faster than what i expected. Also has scored quite a few goals and is cutting inside more in the last few games.His crosses are getting more dangerous as well. Hope the improvement continues.

  25. letranger0 says:

    John The Irish Pele O’Solid is always a good option to have on the bench and it’s a shame he is out. I hope Rafael uses this time to make the RB position his.

  26. philco says:

    This season is really doing its best to become infamous. So many injuries is unbelievable. And still we hang on to a decent league position. If everyone/most of the players can make it fit for the last two months then who knows what can happen.C’mon the Reds.

  27. Corea says:

    Arsenal have many players injuried as well so we have every chance of giving them a hard time at the Emirates. So no excuses, guys.

  28. niklas89 says:

    This is a bigger loss to us than most people probably realise. We need Rio and/or Vidic back and Wes can move to right back. I still dont think Rafael is ready- there are still too many mistakes in his game and thus far he has proved quite injury prone.

    I think there are a number of players who have yet to hit any kind of consistent form this season, I can only think of Evra, Valencia, Giggs, Fletcher and Rooney that have been good nearly every game. I also think that the fact we are relying far too much on Rooney to score goals- which he is doing a great job at of course this is at the sacrifice at a bit of his creativity and spark like the last 15 minutes against city.

  29. King Eric says:

    Afwful news. It just shows how much we do miss Sheasy. At least the haters will be pleased.

  30. Mozz kenyan united 4evra says:

    Poor john! wish him speedy recovery.

  31. afromanc says:

    yeah agree agree niklas89. Rafael and fabio are going to be top fullbacks for us in the future but going into European matches in 2 odd weeks, Im 100% confident in them. They are not cautious enough pushing forward and its a big worry…Sorry Johnny boy! hope you get back on your feet asap!

  32. Dave Mack says:

    afromanc … dead on re the de sliva’s.

    I love them and theyr’re going to be great but as Fergie knows, if you put a young player into situations he’s not quite ready for you risk killing there confidence long term.

  33. benedictbraimahUTDnigerian says:

    am truly gutted abt this news………but d truth must be said…our best players are fuckin aging,we nid to raise other playas lik raphael,fabio,de laet so as to give dem confidence..o shea has alys bin an unsung hero in our team.he s versatile and an utility hell of an irish broda..i luv him.ROM luvs u,John.

  34. Rooney22United says:

    O’Shea has been the most reliable player, we could expect 100% from him every single game, he was one of the most consistent player last year. Get well John!

  35. letranger0 says:

    re: Rafael

    I think he has shown a marked improvement defensively in his last few games. Aside from letting Bellamy get in behind him for the penalty situation I don’t remember him putting a foot wrong. You’re right that in the toughest games (especially away) it may be prudent to play Brown at RB but I really think Rafael should be starting 90% of our games for 1. his own development given that he (injuries and other bad luck or unforeseen events permitting) is going to be a top quality full back sooner rather than later, 2. Brown is needed more centrally with our injury problems, and 3. Nev sorry to say looks a shadow of the player he once was.

  36. Costas says:

    The importance of John is more than just his full back berth. It’s the way he would turn into a 3rd centre half when we defended. And that would be very crucial for us because he is a good header of the ball. Wes could do that, but i am not too sure about Rafael’s ability to do that at this point.

  37. afromanc says:

    Rafael and his brother will be our first choice fullbacks in years to come, but as for now, going into a big european match against milan, its a tough ask. Picture this, meeting madrid next and rafael having to mark ronaldo on the wing. Its a really tough ask.

  38. Costas says:

    Speaking of injuries, Hargo was supposed to return in late January wasn’t he?

  39. Giles Oakley says:

    Thanks AIG and Costas. I’m slowly recovering from the side effects of my radio therapy. Won’t know for months if it’s actually worked.

    Since my post this morning I’ve cheered myself up. Yes, there are all the problems we’ve all been worrying about, me included. But, let’s look on the bright side. What other team would still be only one point from top, in the Carling Cup semis, and still in the Champs Lge after all the injuries we’ve had? When enough players are fit again we have a squad to equal anyone, we really do. When we see youngsters like Rafael struggling, especially with his positional play, we need to remember that he’s playing in an unfamiliar line-up. Once things steady down and Rio & Vidic are back, everyone’s form will start to improve. I still think Fergie needs to re-discover his attacking instincts and play Berba or Owen up front, with Rooney behind. I’ve said many times, I think Rooney will end up as an attacking midfielder, not a striker, so I’d like to see BOTH Berba and Owen up front sometime, just to see how it would work. Why can’t we get back to terrorising defences with our attacking options?

  40. NotoriousRedDevil says:

    A settled team is what we need. Agree with many of the posts that are lambasting our medical team. Our medical staff don’t seem to get much right this season or last season as well for that matter. From now on when a players out I’m just going to assume he’s out for the season unless I see him in the starting line up! Fed up of listening to “He’s out for 4 weeks” and it ends up being 12!

  41. GoatinaUnitedShirtPissedOffforPoorSheasey says:

    Bolox news. Hes fantastic for United and hes brilliant for my Fantasy football team just bleeding typical. As a previous poster said is there ever going to be any good news coming out of Trafford anytime soon.

  42. Ashish says:

    We should consider ourselves lucky that it wasn’t Vidic or Rio !

  43. Welbz19 says:

    Off topic but there’s a really strong reserve side tonight diouf obertan welbeck and de leat all starting with kiko on the bench! Looking forward to seeing how diouf looks over 90 mins!!

  44. Costas says:

    @Welbz19

    It is good news. It’s a chance for those involved in the Leeds game to put it behind them. And lets hope that Kiko will get some playing time too.

  45. Chris20LEGEND says:

    Two things we got out of that france game
    A cheating french cunt Henry
    and now Sheasy out for the rest of the season

  46. Hampy says:

    Noes!! :(

    Sheasy is one of our marvels. Mr. I can do it all.

    This team really misses this rock. Damn, more bad news. And I was hoping he will be back soon. Wish him and his family well and speedy recovery.

  47. Welbz19 says:

    @costas yeah definatly mate been a long while since the weather has been good enough for a reserve game!!

  48. musvn says:

    It’s about time for Owen Hargreaves to be back!

  49. RedDeviled Egg says:

    When the hell is Hargo back? There’s always little bits of news about his training and the practice match at Carrington. But I’m ready to see him on the pitch. We need him desperately.
    Fletcher was absolutely woeful against city. I’m not sure if I saw him make one decent pass.

  50. Corea says:

    Scott, what’s up with this moderation issue ? Is it about the link ?

    FA won’t take actions against Gallas.
    Let’s say hello to mister Wiley.

  51. Corea says:

    h ttp : // video.yandex.ru/users/mihajlo-spb/view/739

    here is the link of the foul. Arsenal scored shortly after.

  52. Drew Vader says:

    I was disappointed not to see Hargo’s name in the reserves squad for tonight. What the hell, where is he??

    Oh, and sucks for JOS

  53. bchilds says:

    Bad news, ok he’s not a first team regular but, when we’re struggling defensively, he’s always a reliable deputy.

    A good 6 or 7 out of 10 every game for Sheasy!

  54. Always Be Closing says:

    He’s been a regular for a while and steps in for other positions when needed. A shame he won’t be back, but, we’re not short of players that want to fill in.

  55. King Eric says:

    Welbz19 – Oh excellent. Really looking forward to seeing Diouf. Waiting for the day Hargreaves plays for the reserves. It is getting fucking daft now.

  56. King Eric says:

    Fletcher was woeful against Citey? Seriously? He didn’t have his best game but he certainly wasn’t woeful. He needs a couple of games rto get his full fitness back.

  57. arsene wenger says:

    i notice a lot of comments about the physio and the doctors fucking up, sayin players will miss 2 weeks and 6 weeks later or even a year later they are still out, you lot must use the same specialists as us

  58. Costas says:

    When is our reserve game? Has it started?

    @arsene wenger

    Nah, I think our med team is worse mate. At least when a player of yours is out for 4 months, he is out for 4 months. Our injuries go like this: a niggle that becomes a strain that becomes an unidentified problem that becomes a reason for a player to miss the entire season.

  59. arsene wenger says:

    lol costas,you mean bendtner out for a month, 17 games later he could be back in two weeks, rosicky out for a season and a half, 7 operations later he might be fully fit, theo walcott, robin van persieout for 3 months,actually 6 weeks,infact make it the season, trust me mate thats just the tip of the iceberg, doctors these days eh

  60. Costas says:

    arsene wenger

    Ok, you have your issues then too. Rosicky’s story reminds me of the Hargreaves one! At the moment, whenever a player gets injured, I think to myself, “There goes his season”.

  61. irwiisalegend says:

    Ole20legend- Couldn’t agree more! And the cheating cunt got away with it!!! Sheasy is a great servant to the club! His goal against Liverpool still makes my eyes water!!! Celebration against Arsenal was hilarious!!!

  62. reder1k says:

    Big loss, he gets better every game.
    Perhaps Hargo might get dressed and leave the sickbay for a change?

  63. Simply Red says:

    When Johny marching down the wing..O’Shea O’Shea
    When Johny marching down the wing..O’Shea O’Shea
    When Johny marching down the wing..
    The stretford End will f*cking sing
    We all know that Johny gonna score

    We’ll gonna miss those tough guys in the back.
    Why United always have a problem with defender?
    Last year, Wes Brown out for about 7 month that I expect much depend on his fantastic season in 07/08.

    Get well son Sheasy….
