Owen Happy To See Other League Cup Results

Michael Owen was happy to get back in to the team, and on to the scoresheet, after our 5-2 victory over Championship side, Scunthorpe. The victory meant even more when learning that City, Liverpool and Chelsea had all lost, to add to Spurs and Everton who were knocked out the day before, given that United are now clear favourites to retain the trophy.

“There are a few of us who haven’t been playing a lot this season and needed the game, and Scunthorpe made a real game of it,” said Owen. “They’re obviously very fit and they never stopped going forward. We scored five goals but they could have scored a few as well. It was a good game. There were a lot of players there tonight that needed that first game; be it players coming back from injury or players who just haven’t played, so that was beneficial to us. All in all it was a good workout and we’re pleased to get through to the next round – especially seeing the other results!”

It’s always nice to wake up in the morning and see that we won and City, Chelsea and Liverpool lost lol.

  2. Red Devil 19 says:

Mickey owen is a red he hates scousers

  3. sayyid says:

It’s a shame we dropped 4 points, but no worries…Chelsea have already lost 2 players to injuries…and will struggle to name a decent bench against City

Chelsea will not be able to continue this form….I fully expect the title to be between us and the Gooners

  4. Tom says:

Sayyid – sorry but can’t agree Chelsea are strong and although ageing have got another good season in them. They will be there at the close as they have been now for the last 6 seasons. Our jobs is to sort out our defence and Rooney before they accumulate to many points.

Meanwhile given whose left in the Carling Cup and only 4 games left I’d be happy to make a treble of back Carling Cups.

  5. sayyid says:

Unless we are unlucky, I can’t see a reason why we won’t be in the final again

Our second 11 are extremely strong, and should beat the majority of the first team’s of the teams remaining

I hope we get Brentford, Northampton or Ipswich away…otherwise Arsenal at home

still think its between us and chelski…citeh and theARSE might have a say where it goes though.

  7. sayyid says:

By the way…if Wayne doesn’t do it against Bolton, Fergie should give Chico or Owen a chance with Berbatov

  8. Costas says:

Said it last night, but I doubt Chelsea will be too disappointed about last night. They know the limitations of their squad. I predict that they will play a similar line up in the FA cup. They only care about the league and the Ch.League.

  9. Raizzen says:

What cracks me up is the 1 billion spending Shitty having a defensive problem. Wargh kargh kargh kargh kargh kargh kargh kargh. And yeah it felt good waking up and all probable rivals are wiped out in one night.

p/s: Shitty should get their makeshifts defense put on Tevez’s mask. he’s so ugly he might scare away a few players.

  10. Paul Parker says:

Good to see Owen back in action he was important for us last season. As for our rivals they’ll all be gutted to be out so early especially Chelsea losing at home. Its not the best preparation for their coming matches. Liverpool will struggle for 5th if not 6th. City will have another high spending low acheiving season. We just have to overhaul Chelsea and the Title is ours again. The Dippers at home is one thing, but lets see how we approach Bolton away.

  11. King Eric says:

Of course we will catch the Rentboys. See how strong they are come March having burned out due to the World Cup etc. At least at United our second string are much better as witnessed last night and had a relaxing summer. Carrick has been forgotten by many but IF he can regain his form of 12 -18 months ago he will be a big plus and also well rested. He did play well at Wembley in August actually. The last couple of games has really highlighted just how weak the Chelsea SQUAD is. I am sic k of hearing the clowns in the media say how their squad is so strong when in reality it isn’t, far from it actually. My feeling is they will drop points at Citeh, against Villa and don’t they play the dippers soon? Well that one maybe 3 points!!

Anyway really looking forward to watching the “Berbatov interview” tonight.

  12. King Eric says:

Paul Parker – Hello pal, good to hear from you. Remember our little “spat” a few months back!! No hard feelings. I am confident for Sunday, we have a decent record at their place and lets not forget the genius that is Berbatov bagged two there last year. Coyle is trying to play football with a team half full of cloggers. I found them a bigger threat when Sam was in charge.

  13. willierednut says:

King Eric – I think City will do the rentboys, so It’s imperative we get 3 points at Bolton.

  14. rooney the new king says:

greatest song united fans ever sang

micheal owen is a red he hates scousers, if that is not the funniest football song ever heard I do not know what is.

  15. rooney the new king says:

it is defiantly the most ironic song ever sang. When scousers were going all crazy in the late 90′s early millenium when they unearthed they’re most successful goalscorer in recent times

  16. Faddy is a legend says:

Anyone know what the score is in the reserves game?

  17. Doghouse says:

Owen gets the job done. Not going to go off on another ramble about his quality, the goals speak for themselves.

I’m also happy to see a taste of what I’d been predicting for weeks about Chelsea. Chelsea go up against a decent team with some real fight in them, and they get beat, at home, conceding four. Three players down injured too. They are not nearly so clever when the other team actually shows up.

  18. Costas says:

    @willierednut

City beating Chelsea for the 3rd time in a row? Hmm, that’s a long shot I think. I have a feeling it will finish all level. And then hopefully we will get our first away win of the league season.

  19. willierednut says:

Costas – Don’t think it’s a long shot mate, Tevez always seems to be up for that game, fancy a City 2 1 win.

  20. Paul Parker says:

@King Eric, Easy Mate – yeah looking back on last season that was hilarious wasn’t it? Still, at least it showed passion for the Club mate. what a season so far. I’ll spare the details but last few months have been uphill on a personal, but pissing off the scousers sitting in my local last weekend has defintely marked a turning point lol. Great to see Berbatov turn that corner aye? Last Season was diffucult for him but we both knew he would get his head down this Summer and come good for us. Agree with that Bolton comment, had to remind myself earlier its not the same proposition under Coyle. Big Sam for the Brazil job haha. Hope all is well mate. At work about to shoot off. Missed the Carling game last night sitting here watching Sky Sports Centre…. great fun.

All Mancunian Republikans, old and new, take it easy.

  21. TheRadLegion says:

city is always pumped during big gmaes only.. they will win 1-0 or 2-1

  22. rooney the new king says:

Paul Parker – I admit I had no faith in the guy, because fergie wanting to play 433 and berbatov seemed very ineffective never fitting into our system. I said this guy should be moved on, well I am happy for uniteds sake he is starting to collect.
