Park: I May Not Get United Retirement Wish

Park Ji-Sung has acknowledged that despite wanting to retire at United, he may not get his wish.

“It’s true that I said I want to retire at United,” he said. “But what I want does not always translate to reality. It becomes more feasible when the whole situation clicks.”

Park, who will be out of contract next summer, admitted he had a disappointing season.

“I want to forget the past and think about what I have to do in the future,” he said. “I do not have time to think about next season. I need to rest mentally and physically.”

I really don’t see how Park can get into the squad on a regular basis, and its a shame considering how important he was to us a couple of years back.

  2. 0161-Jon says:

I think Park can definitely get back to where he was a few seasons ago. He’ll need more game time but if he gets a lot pre season he’ll be an important squad player for us next year. I hope.

  3. CedarsDevil says:

I wish him nothing but the best, I always maintained that he is one of the most tactically gifted players in our squad. Might just be down to two lungs now

  4. TheCANTONA says:

Park = class. Hope an excellent future for your life.
    “Park! Park!
    Wherever you maybe!
You eat KIMCHI in your home country!
    Could be worse!
    You could be a scouse!
Eatin rats in their council house!”

  5. samuel - united WE stand says:

Relied heavily on his energy and the consequences of that now are now showing. I don’t think he’ll get the chance to retire at united unless he drastically improves and i just don’t see that happening. He can’t adapt his game because technically, he isn’t that great but he has done remarkably well in the roles he’s given but now, i think he’s part of the ineffective experienced players in the squad. Other players will dislodge him….

  6. bruce thomas says:

As someone said recently: “How long is it since Park has done what Ferguson thinks he still does?”

If Valencia had played in the City game things might’ve been different.

    b. thomas:

so now it’s park’s fault for losing the championship? he’s an easy target, isn’t he?

  9. Costas says:

Doesn’t sound good does it? Looking at O’Shea’s departure last year makes one realize that everyone is expendable now so Park leaving wouldn’t shock me.

  10. Voice of reason says:

    Go now please

  11. Albert Ross says:

A reasonable reflection echoing back at it’s source:

“Go now please go now please go now please”

  12. Ozma says:

Needs to go this summer. We really need to clear out the dead wood we’ve got at United. Park has been a very good player for us over the years, but now it’s time to move on. We all know that we don’t need him anymore. Offers nothing going forward, offers nothing defensively and is constantly on his backside during the game.
Park, Ando, Berbatov, Fabio, Macheda, should all follow Owen and out through the exit door I’m afraid. Man Utd should never stand for mediocrity. To challenge for the league and champions league we need to get world class players. The one’s that I’ve mentioned can’t cut it as United.

No blog about De Laet leaving?

  14. Fred says:

Write one yourself if you feel so strongly about it!

  15. LoneStarRed says:

Park has a place at United. He is Red through and through. He was asked to do a lot of dirty grunt work by SAF and did so without hesitation and with full effort. Our lack of midfield prowess exposed him, was not flattering to him and he suffered in the eyes of many casual observers. SAF knows his value. His role at United is to take on the special tasks needed to disrupt an opponent’s flow. No matter the size of the enemy force or the situation Park is a man you want on your side when the going gets tough. In the high octane squad SAF is assembling Park will be a crucial battle tested reserve.

  16. Iceman says:

Fergie might be thinking of replacing Park with a more technical Asian, Shinji Kagawa.

I really like Park as a player and a person. I wish him all the best whether he’s going to leave this summer or stay with us. If United are not going to offer him another contract they must surely cash him in while they still can.

  17. david says:

That’s right…Get rid of dead wood bla bla bla. And some say players are disloyal. LOL. I’ve heard enough fans to know fans are just as disloyal as the players. I’d rather walk than be pushed.

  18. Jay says:

David get out of my head I was just about to write the same thing.

  19. Nawaaz Casoojee says:

Well to be quite honest,I do not expect Park to stay long enough at Old Trafford to eventually retire at United. He has been a loyal servant to the club and has always given his best and Sir Alex will reward him I’m sure! He may not have had the best of seasons but let’s not forget how big of an asset he has been to our success in recent years. I don’t think we should write him off completely, but he is not going to play week in week out and so he could still be a valuble squad player next season. He’ll be fresher then the players who will be at Euro 2012,and he could definately help our campaigns in the FA Cup and League Cup.

  20. Daniel says:

OUT : Berbatov, Park, Bebe and Macheda in addition to Owen.

I am disappointed by Park Ji Sung he is too good to be a bench player. The captain of South Korea should be playing week in and week out. Show a lack of ambition.
