Park: I Want Title More Than Ever

Ji-Sung Park has revealed that he turned down a place in South Korea’s Olympic squad to focus on his Manchester United career.

“I was called but I had to say no,” Park said. “I know how it is like at the Olympics because I was involved in Sydney (2000). “I have also played in three World Cup finals and my best memory was the tournament in Japan and South Korea in 2002. Few could have thought that we could get to the semi-finals. I have 100 caps, but this period of my life is over for me. I want to concentrate on my club from now on. This is my seventh year at Old Trafford. I won four titles but I want to win the Premier League this year more than ever.”

Ji-Sung LAD! Exactly the spirit we need!!!

  3. Costas says:

Shame he hasn’t appeared more often. You can tell his form is suffering from it. There’s still one big game wre might need him in this season though!

    Sunderland away. ;)

  4. Doghouse says:

When a foreign player, especially one who is prodigiously good by the standards of their own country, does this for our club I get a bit choked up I have to admit. Berbatov and now Park, both legends to their national teams, huge stars at home, for them to commit themselves to Manchester United in this way shows incredible loyalty. Not that I want to divert this to Berbs though.

Park’s career at United has seen him undervalued at times, at other times priceless, and I hope he can deliver the performances we all want to see for many years to come. When he is at his best his energy and industry can tear teams up. I don’t think there is anybody in the squad can press as hard as he does for as long as he does in midfield.

Park is awesome, Costas SAF has gone to a 4-4-1-1 or a 4-4-2 not a 4-3-3 or 4-5-1 ect. Park plays in the big games in the other formations. It was great he got to wear the Captains arm band as well.

    Jones/De Gea/Ashley Young: 1 Gerrard: 0

  12. Costas says:

Hi mate. I don’t think the formation itself was the problem. Young’s arrival and Valencia’s sublime form were. Also, Park played quite a few games as a CM in a 4-4-3 and quite frankly, he was average. It’s been a frustrating campaign for him, but hopefully when we really need him, he’ll be there.

  13. CedarsDevil says:

I have nothing but admiration for Park, top player and great bloke off the field. I do not think we have ever read any bad press about the lad.

  14. Saad says:

Park and berbatov, two foreigners, make ravel Morrison look very bad.

  15. Sparkz says:

    @Saad 17.03 – Spot on there mate.

With regards to Park, he’s been a great asset to us, but I think his time’s been and gone tbh. He’s never been the best technically but his energy has always got him through. That seems on the wane since he’s hit 30 (or since Wembley last May!). I can’t remember the last time he had a good 90 minutes….he’s okay, or poor for the first 50………then spends the remainder of the game falling over, its not even a joke.

I suppose he’s someone you can bring off the bench for 20 minutes to see a game out, but as a starter I don’t think he cuts it any more IMO.

  16. Bobby Charlton's combover says:

I agree with you Sparkz. He doesn’t have the same impact as before. There’s even been a big drop in his form between last season and this. As you say never been technically gifted but his energy made up for it. Now he’s struggling a little. There’s still some left in the tank but you can see he’s losing his edge.

He has been a great servant and he will continue to be albeit in a lesser role. Commendable sacrifice for the cause that won’t go unrecognised with the fans.

  17. Garry Marshall says:

Ji-Sung has always had the spirit and gives his all, a few other players should learn from him, never seen him be lazy on the field and sparks the team up when he comes on.
Thanks Ji-Sung for all your service and dedication :)

  18. King Eric says:

Sparkz and Bobby Charlton – While I agree with you to an extent I happen to think Park IS technical. Give him a role and he sticks to it. ie. Marking Pirlo out the game. His movement is usual good and he can read the game. IMO he is much more than just energy. That energy was sapped at Wembley for Messi’s goal when he tried closing him down and looked like a punch drunk boxer
