Park: I’ve Enjoyed Every Minute At United

Park Ji-Sung has put an end to any rumours linking him with a move away from the club after signing a new two year deal.

“I have enjoyed every minute of my time at United,” said Park. “I’m delighted to be part of the club during this latest stage in its history – with another exciting young team being built. I’m looking forward to playing my part in keeping United at the top of the game.”

Sir Alex Ferguson, who has relied on Park in so many of our big games in the past few years, has voiced his happiness at a new deal being agreed.

“Ji has been an important player for us for a number of years now,” said Ferguson. “He has great ability and energy and in recent seasons has added the knack of scoring important goals in big games. He is a popular member of the squad and his experience at domestic and international level is invaluable for the younger players.”

My heart fucking sank when I read the headline to this thread, it seemed like a farewell statement!

Bloody love the guy to bits, I am sure that yet again he will be our big game player…….. His through ball to Hernandez against the rent boys still stands out for me

  2. smartalex says:

We’ve enjoyed every minute of you being at United, Park Ji-Sung!

Do us a favour and stay out of Korea’s matches now. Give someone else a turn, thanks buddy!

  3. Toby says:

    @smartalex Hasn’t he already retired from S.Korea?

  4. Steve_G says:

glad to see your sticking around!

  5. CedarsDevil says:

He has retired from international football, he did so after the last Asian cup of Nations

  6. smartalex says:

@Toby – Yes, he has retired from International football. That’s why I’m asking him to stay out of their matches. I’m not in the habit of wishing that our players would retire from international duty, even though I want all of them to do exactly that. The younger players need international football to enable work permits, and the older players owe their country, and want to perform heroically for their people.

Once they have retired however, I feel entitled to ensure that it stays that way!

    So have we. ;)

Love Park, Coming in from PSV. 6 years of head down contributions, invaluable in Europe. Comes in off the bench or from the off and delivers such performances.
5th most senior man on the squad this year after (Giggs, Fletcher, Ferdinand, Rooney). Increadible really!

  10. Gee says:

For me the greatest player ever to come out of Asia!! And looks better with every season!!

  11. FletchTHEMAN says:

Good points about the “need” for internationals. I would add that for the youngsters, like Smalling, Evans, Jones, Wellbeck, etc, the internationals really improve their maturity. Imagine Rooney without that added “schooling” in his maturation.
But for the established players, especially for those over 30, it is really too much. The fact that clubs are not compensated for time or injuries is what really makes the entire system so poor.

Love you Park Ji-sung, wish we could come up with another song for the lad that is less about asian cuisine. ;(

  12. Devil310 says:

WHAAAAT? He was only bought and resigned to SELL SHIRTS!

:) – HA! that was for you cedars!

  13. smartalex says:

I am often thankful to Patrice Evra for forming such a close bond with Ji, who spoke almost no english, and grew up in a culture far removed from all our other players. Without Pat taking Ji under his wing, we might have struggled to develop the reticent Korean.

  14. Mikael says:

    Great “signing” =oD

Keep the engine room goin’ Parky!

  15. CedarsDevil says:

Park optimizes what it takes to be a proper RED, humble, down to earth, always gives 100% when on the field, never moans or bitches, loves being at the club……………..And in turn we love the fuck out of him

Devil310 – ha, nice one…. At least you got my name right this time! lol

  16. CedarsDevil says:

Year after year and for over 35 years of supporting this bloody great club I keep asking my self ‘can I possibly love them even more’ and year after year I keep finding that I actually do.

    UNITED IS my life

  17. Dave Malaysia says:

Good news. The senior player in the squad now. As Fergie had envisioned few years back , on condition they keep progressing.

Wes and Shea were part of that group and have moved on.

Shows how hard u need to work ,how well u need to look after yerself and the expectation levels are incredible.

    Incredible humans and players.

    Respect to the Boss.

  18. scan74 says:

Top man been fantastic for us always puts in a performance the chelsea game in the prem last year he was immense

  19. aaron says:

Glad to see that Park has signed up for another few years, he seems to be getting better with each passing season. I never expected him to last this long or become so important when he first arrived, he has really proven that Asian players can mix it with the elite and has opened so many doors. Makes me proud that he achieved it at our club..

    Good on ya Park!

  20. Zibbie says:

Awesome, this team has prepared themselves for success, and expect nothing else. Man Utd has a culture of winning based on this. Competition for spots, and SAF finding a spot for those’s who earn more playing time. The taste of winning overcome’s the thirst for personal glory. Personal glory comes from the glow of a winning team. The reflection of silverware looks good on the players. They have a job to do and they do it. Park and Fletch excel in simply doing what the Gaffer asks of them, with effort and a high football IQ.

  21. willierednut says:

Quite possibly the most under rated player in Europe. Struggled early doors, but has found his role within team/squad. Big game player as well. Never moans(like Ole) just gets on with it. All round great guy, who we love! Love to see him finish his career at United.

  22. Zibbie says:

This is my 9th year of fanaticism for Man Utd Cedars, and it gets better or worse every year! hehe.
Dark shadows follow the bigger brained of our species. I have been wrestling some demons of mine here as well recently. Only 4% of mankind have an IQ of 120 or higher, there is so much average out there, happy in there blissful ignorance. Suckling on their apathetic culture. Not knowing what was just said……
Double the dose, don’t drive heavy machinery and kiss your women and hold them tight and let them know of your love for them.
Kill them Sunday, away win 2-1.

  23. Zibbie says:

A much bigger cultural gap for a Asian player coming to Europe then a North, Central or South American.

  24. aimanunited says:

    sell sneijder, buy park :)

  25. Kaushik says:

@CedarsDevil – Park epitomises not optimises what it takes to be a proper RED …

  26. Balaji Sivaraman says:

willie, Under-rated is the perfect word to use for Park. I know I’ve said this many times but I will never tire of saying it – Park is not just a mad worker. I cringe each time somebody mentions that Park is a hard worker. Such a statement is a great insult to the Korean. He is as intelligent a footballer as you’ll find anywhere in Europe – in terms of the positions he takes, the runs he makes, the kind of passes he provides and I could go on and on. Not to mention he can do exactly the job that Sir Alex wants him to do. Having someone like him around should feel like a boon to Sir Alex. Fan-fucking-tastic player who deserves a pay-raise to go along with the contract. We love you too, Ji.

  27. willierednut says:

    Cedars – Lol. Optimizes? :)

    @Balaji

Very true mate. Like I said, he gets on with it and never moans when he’s rested by the manager.

Park is a player, I believe, has won many United fans over, with his some of his stellar performances.

    Particularly in Europe.

  28. smartalex says:

Appetizer? Park is a certain starter in the big games.

  29. CedarsDevil says:

    Bugger, of course epitomizes! lol

  30. willierednut says:

    He’s a smoker, he’s a joker…

  31. smartalex says:

Atomizes? He brings a sparkle to my water.

  32. Stepover16 says:

This just made my week! Great comments Balaji, couldn’t agree more. He’s added consistent composed finishing to his repertoire for the club, an attribute he’s displayed more confidently for country in the past, and I can’t wait to see what he does to build on that especially in a full season without any international commitments. Let’s hope the next years are the best years of his career!

  33. Daniel says:

Of the four games I’ve ever seen at Old Trafford, yes I do not live in England, Park has scored the winning goal. So he’s a bit of a personal saviour for me!

  34. Daniel says:

    *scored the winning goal TWICE.
