Park Misses 7 Games

Sir Alex Ferguson has revealed today that Ji-Sung Park, who has scored 4 in his last 6 league games, will play his last game for a few weeks on Boxin Day. The battling midfielder will be representing Korea in the Asian Cup in Qatar in January.

“Ji is in fantastic form,” said Ferguson. “Unfortunately we are going to lose him for seven matches after December 26. It is disappointing.”

With Antonio Valencia missing until February, this is a massive blow, leaving United with just Nani, Ryan Giggs, Gabriel Obertan and Bebe on the wings.

  2. Davey Mc says:

Bloody asian cup!! at least obertan will get a run in the team.

  3. AJ says:

I think we ll manage… The games after boxing day are RELATIVELY easy…Birmingham (a), WBA(h), Stoke (h), SPURS (AWAY!), Birm (h), Villa (h), Wolves (a)…We have Rooney to fill in if need be… 1 thing that I would be scared about is he coming back injured!!

  4. Duncan says:

Rooney on the wing, Berba and Hernandez up front. Not a bad temporary solution.

  5. devil without a cause says:

    AJ

you forgot the most important game of them all……………
    17th jan……….liverpool (home)…………..fa cup………………..

  6. Giles Oakley says:

When Fergie said that last night it came as a big blow. I thought he’d retired from international football after the World Cup. Maybe it was just the captaincy. He’s been terrific this season after a lukewarm start (World Cup fatigue, I suspect). Still, nothing can be done about it, just have to get on with it, like Chelsea do with the African Cup of Nations. I think we can assume Cleverley won’t be coming back early, with his broken rib.

  7. Keano16 says:

@ AJ – We play WBA away, not home. Drew 2-2 at OT.

  8. Edpayasugo says:

    Please not Bebe!

  9. Don Pablo says:

Such a shame we are losing Park in such form. Credit to the guy, he was honest enough to admit to poor form and vowed to do something about it and he did do it in style. Very useful player to have.

  10. Jk says:

Loan move for Beckham please sir?!!!? Ha unlikely…in d extreme but id love it!! i wud LOVE it!

  11. AJ says:

    @Keano and Devil – Sorry pals…

  12. sangreal says:

Clev back from loan or Rooney on the wing

  13. bchilds says:

    @devil without a cause

That’s THEIR most important game of the season, we’ve much bigger fish to fry.

Park is going to be a massive blow, I’d go so far as to say he’s in the best run of form he’s ever been for United. Getting regular first team football, scoring goals on a regular basis – couldn’t have been timed any worse.

  14. chicharito14 says:

@jk thought so too.a 30 day loan deal for beckham wont hurt anybody so why not

  15. Corea says:

Yes, huge blow. But we are Manchester United (Evra) and we will cope with it. We have the master of rotation at the helm. ;)
    Viva Parky!

  16. ScholesEvilTwin says:

devil without a cause – the liverpool cup game is the 9th January not the 17th

  17. devil without a cause says:

    AJ.

    nevermind mate……….

    bchilds.

the quality of opposition may not be good at this moment but liverpool is certainly the most hated rivalry……..much more than city………..intensity wise its the biggest………….

  18. Dave Malaysia says:

Well it means oppurtunity for someone else in the team and maybe any new signings in January, maybe even Cleverly back in the team.

  19. devil without a cause says:

    ScholesEvilTwin

    my bad mate………….wasnt that sure……….

  20. Costas says:

A big loss. Someone else woll have to do the dippers this time.

  21. Troy says:

Park will be missed…..but we still have Giggs.
    Obertan may get a chance.

Look I love Park but the player that is worrying me is Fletcher. Fletcher needs to hit his groove. I am convinced that If and when Fletcher clicks back on, our midfield will then start playing.

  22. RJ says:

Hopefully Korea will get knocked out straight away…
Or doesn’t it work like that~?

  23. Che Guevarist says:

    Becks on loan anyone? :D

  24. Bennett says:

I think Obertan can be on d right n Nani on d left.

  25. MG says:

    Che Guevarist

Becks was sitting next to Gary Neville yesterday

Start the whispers then quietly :)

  26. MG says:

On Park going it’s a kick in the teeth

He is a tremendous player and one which a team needs – in his honesty and workmanship he is truly a great asset.

Every player can have a bad game – but form is temporary class is permanent

  27. Farhan Borst says:

Rooney left/right wing Berba and Chicharito FW

  28. Red Devil Canuck says:

We could always give Evra or Fabio a bit of time on the left wing, but I’d like to see Obertan be given a chance to get some games under his belt

  29. Paul Parker says:

thank God he’ll be available against them decrepid pensioners!!! highly, highly under-rated player who im sure would be hailed as the best thing since sliced bread if he was either elligible for the england team or played for chelsea. Too bad he’s a Korean playing for United aye? Real professional you can turn to for the really big games and he’s got a footballing brain as well as an engine for a heart. Park take a bow Sun (Tzu)

And as people have said, this should mean Obertan gets a run, but “supporters” expecting miracles should remind themselves how long it took Nani to be first team. Obi’s been here 5mins and only now looks like his balls have dropped. He’s young so give the lad some time! Only consistent place he’s had is in the reserves really, but when he has had a rare chance he’s shown promise, remember his performance/goal in Europe?

  30. ancha says:

i feel obertan is better through the middle than on wings…..

we also have the option of playing fletch on right move nani to left and play carrick & anderson as CMs…if fergie doesnt want disturb rooney & berba combo..

  31. hammons says:

Think Rooney should play out on the left wing in the 4-5-1 ….

  32. MyCowIsTheBest says:

lol i thought many fans would relish the fact that we are going to miss PJS. Afterall, there were so many Park-haters earlier in the season.

  33. Red Devil Canuck says:

Could easily do a 433 w/ Rooney, Berba and Nani up front. There are plenty of options and Fergie’s got plenty of tricks up his sleeves. I’m just hoping Park can continue his current form all season. Now some of the other guys just need to step it up a notch.

  34. Colbert says:

Those silly African and Asian cups. Park will be missed. After an atrocius start to the season he’s been immense lately. I just hope we can cope without him until Valencia is back. I also think Rooney will benefit from Valencia’s return, those two really know how to link up.

  35. bbabyj says:

Too bad. IIRC, Park has usually been good in that tight Christmas period.

  36. Mannings says:

If only there was a winger available to loan……
