Patrice Evra – You Had a Mare!

Patrice EvraPatrice Evra has easily been in our top three most consistent performers so far this season. He has certainly pulled his weight in our exceptional defence, but has added significantly to our attack as well. Since his derby day debut nightmare, he has gone from strength to strength, and shown himself as arguably the best left back in Europe.

Today however, he had a nightmare of a match. Lennon was given all the room in the World as he burst in to our penalty area, Evra backing off him and allowed him to get closer to the goal. The England winger slotted in Robbie Keane in effortlessly, putting United 1-0 down on 24 minutes.

Thankfully, United pulled a goal back before half time, but a couple of minutes after the restart, should have gone 2-1 down. Aaron Lennon was on the ball again, and against Evra failed to deal with it. Lennon twisted and turned, leaving Evra on the deck. He lay on his front and watched Lennon run in the box, setting up Robbie Keane again, who this time fired on to the roof of the net instead of finding the back of it.

The booking Evra picked up in the first half rules him for derby day on the 10th, meaning we’ll be playing Brown and O’Shea as fullbacks, if Vidic has returned from his virus.

I’m a big fan of Evra. I think he’s a brilliant player and has proved himself as a valuable part of our first team. But the sooner he puts today behind him the better!

How did you rate Evra today?

every player has bad days and lennon is a good player but evra was not at the races today hope he gets back to his best form asap

  2. smarties says:

why does it rule him out for the derby? i think that there are about 3 matches in between

  3. Taehr says:

Evra should know that lennon is ALWAYS going to put the all on his right side.

  4. KingOfZamunda says:

I agree, Evra should’ve known Lennon would run outside him.
Apart from the two Lennon moments, I thought Evra had a solid match all round.

  5. Tom F says:

You are right there, he made so many wrong decisions today. Took too long on the ball in defence and gave it away far too cheaply when on the attack- so now we’ve talked about that. LET’S TALK ABOUT PAUL SCHOLES!!! HIS PASS FOR THE LAST GOAL WENT WITHOUT BEING MENTIONED AND HE JUST MAKES EVERYTHING LOOK SO EFFORTLESS.. WELCOME BACK :D

i think that the whole team did not play well in the overall. between evra and dawson, dawson was bad news- like a disaster waiting to happen

  7. sege says:

evra was out of form in dat particular match but dat should not take anything away from him.we av no cover for him and playing behind 34yrs old giggs even made is work tougher.maybe we should give him a rest if vidic recovers on time bcos we cant do without the two of them against quality oppositions.

  8. Alex says:

I put it down to the Rio and Vidic not playing together, with that change in mind the defence was always going to be weaker, I think the first 30 minutes were very shakey but we picked ourselves up!

  9. United on Fire says:

Well, he didn’t play well ; I think the BBC commentator jnyxed him by early on saying how much he’d improved defensively since joining us.

  10. Tom F says:

At least it wasn’t Mark Lawrenson commentating through the game :O/

  11. Nick says:

talk about an overreaction. couple of slips maybe, far from being a ‘mare’ though.
