Manchester United fan, Alex Morgan, scored an injury time winner for USA at Old Trafford against Canada tonight.

The game finished 3-3 in normal time after a dubious penalty for USA. In the last few seconds of injury time, added on to the extra time, Morgan scored the winner to put USA in to the Olympic final.

She’ll cherish that moment at Old Trafford for the rest of her life. No need to shun her the fact that she’s says she’s a fan of Barcelona. She’ll have a love for OT and thus be associated with United.

that’s my argument, and i’m stick it by it :green:

  30. Zibbie says:

As per the usual, after all the lesser bucks chase after her, she approaches me. Not filled with desire, just to pay the alpha buck his due. A smile an laugh a innocent glint in her eye, with in minutes the subconscious cues kick in. A prolonged laugh a flip of her hair. Her shoulders turn in. Drawn to me as I pull on her inter-emotional tides,as if I were a Blood Orange full moon arising. She gets wind of my musk, she moves in close. We now are touching belly ups. She goes in for a good whiff this time, a prolonged int-elation, brain chemistry changed, her face goes slack. The copualatory gaze, the 1000 yard stair they look right through you, shes now unashamed, goes in for her third hit…. Like she is hitting a bong… then it happens, she rips into me like a fast melting soft serve ice cream cone. Open mouth tong, and some teeth. I have lived this my entire life. Blood has been drawn to many times. no shit.

  62. Lebenglese says:

How to explain the offside rule to a woman:

You’re in a shoe shop, second in the queue for the till. Behind the shop assistant on the till is a pair of shoes which you have seen and which you must have.
The shopper in front of you has seen them also and is eyeing them with desire.
Both of you have forgotten your purses.
It would be totally rude to push in front of the first woman if you had no money to pay for the shoes.
Your friend is trying on another pair of shoes at the back of the shop and sees your dilemma.
She prepares to throw her purse to you.
If she does so, you can catch the purse, then walk round the other shopper and buy the shoes.
At a pinch she could throw the purse ahead of the other shopper and, *whilst it is in flight* you could nip around the other shopper, catch the purse and buy the shoes.
Always remember that until the purse has *actually been thrown* it would be plain wrong for you to be in front of the other shopper and you would be OFFSIDE!

    IPO is going through

Aug. 7 (Bloomberg) — Manchester United Ltd., the English soccer team with a record 19 national championships, received enough orders for all shares being sold in its U.S. initial public offering, said two people with knowledge of the matter.
The company and its owner, the Glazer family, are seeking to raise as much as $333 million by selling 16.7 million shares at $16 to $20 each, according to a regulatory filing last month.
Banks managing the IPO are scheduled to stop taking orders for the shares at noon in New York on Aug. 9, according to one of the people, who declined to be identified because the talks are private.
United, whose players include England’s striker Wayne Rooney and Welshman Ryan Giggs, picked the U.S. as its listing venue after ditching plans for a share sale of as much as $1 billion in Singapore. The Glazer family acquired United for 790 million pounds ($980 million) in 2005, and also own the National Football League’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Manchester United spokesman Philip Townsend declined to comment.
General Motors Co., the world’s largest carmaker, signed a seven-year deal to have its Chevrolet brand on United’s jerseys starting in 2014, according to a press release last month. GM sponsorship agreement will generate $559 million through 2021, the club said in a filing on Aug. 3.
The Glazers, who fully own United, hold Class B shares, which are entitled to 10 votes apiece. The Class A shares being sold in the IPO get one vote each, according to filings. The Glazers will maintain almost 99 percent of voting power over the club after the offering, in which a 10 percent stake of the company is being sold.
Jefferies Group Inc., Credit Suisse Group AG and JPMorgan Chase & Co. are leading the U.S. offering for the soccer club, along with Deutsche Bank AG and Bank of America Corp. Morgan Stanley, which had been hired to lead the sale in Singapore, is no longer working on the sale. The club plans to list on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol MANU.

Of course SAF won’t get a penny.

We dlnt have to worry too much about PSG’s bid as even though it could be accepted by Sao Paulo the player has to agree to the move. Who would want to move to France, especially Paris elludes me but each to his own. There are people out there that suck horse cock and squirt chocolate mouse up their anus’s to shit it out on Japanese tourists – each to his own I guess!

I like the idea of bringing in Moura but even I say stop to more than £30m in transfer fee and £6m in agents fees. Thats Kaka Ronaldo esque money and th eboy is unproven. Ill take a big gamble on an untried lad when the team is so very good at the moement and can compete anyways but out of respect to players gone before who have proven themselves to be worth that money I think I’ll pass.

    Matt

Do you seriously realize how pathetic you have become? In each and every one of your posts you have a dig at Sir Alex……..Enough already please, this is becoming silly, ungrateful bugger

  100. goatinaunitedshirt says:

I have no idea about peoples dislike to the Glazers selling these IPO’s. What business is it of people how investors or fans spend their money. Now United has sold a negliagable share of themselves, without any operational risk, and earned a fuckin truck load of cash. Doesnt sound too bad to me, if anything it makes the anti-glazerites look a bit foolish especially as I think in their heart of hearts they thought there wouldnt be any interest. Just goes to show the stability and power of Manchester United not only here but globally and whether you like it or not the Glazers have a big hand in that.

  101. dannysoya LOVES SIAN MASSEY says:

I don’t know about others but I think this Lucas Moura rejecting us thing could be a blessing in disguise. It is a MIRACLE that we have SOMEHOW not yet bought a world class central midfield player. It’s pretty amazing to me. It is blatant that there is a problem there. Maybe if Moru heads to PSG SAF might finally focus on getting a great yound midfielder in like Isco or Sahin or Moutinho or something.

I mena if Fergie is willing to drop 30 million for Moura surely he can just easily use that 30 million to meet Porto’s asking price for a world class midfielder in Moutinho. I still retain hope that we will eventually get our world class midfielder in even though it is now less than 7 days till the Community Shield.

  102. jeet says:

No more signings this season…you heard it here first

  103. goatinaunitedshirt says:

    dannysoya LOVES SIAN MASSEY
When have we ever bought a world class midfielder? Not that often and more often than not when we did it failed. Players have become world class midfielders whilst at United. We look for th ebright and promising.
Keane was a bright prospect and it took him a couple of years to be first choice as Robbo and Ince led the midfield in the early years. Carrick wasnt exactly what Id call world class only coming off a good campaign with Spurs, he’s made his name with us. Fletcher a free bee, Anderson a prospect, Scholes a free bee, Butt a free bee, Cleverley a free bee.
The only players we really paid for that could arguably be classed as superstars in their own right coming to us would be Robbo, Hargreaves and Veron.
Kagawa is our new prospect and more than capable of doing the business and joing the huge list of world class names played in our midfield.

As for Moutinho, ??? could be ok, not sure I like his physique, a bit light weight for me. Would see yaya Toure pound the poor fecker into the turf.

  107. parryheid says:

Any Glazer success is an anathema to some people and there is likely more to come.If they can get a stunning 400+million shirt sponsorship from Chevrolet what do they think the Glazers are going to demand from the shirt supplier? The mind boggles.

United are always scouting and investigating players. Ideally we keep it on the down low but this Maura cat has escaped the bag and Sao Paulo are milking it for every penny. He may look good on you tube but 30M is a big gamble and PSG are welcome to him. Our priority should be a CM box 2 box with all the trimming and I’m sure SAF has his eye on a few. I think we will see one more addition to the squad before silly season is done. But fuck knows who? I hope CM

  111. dannysoya LOVES SIAN MASSEY says:

@goat I understand where you are coming from but considering that Fletcher will prolly not start games for us until december and considering that other temas have improved their already formidable midfields, I was just hoping we could get something going there.

Also Kagawa is a world class player but not a central midfielder. Sure he can play in there but we would not be making the best use of him IMO. His best position is just behind the striker. Almost like how David silva plays for spain.

But you are right. OUr midfield can do more than just cope. We have some good players. I just hope that Cleverley especially gets more game time than Scholes this year just so I can see him improve. Scholesy is th grand master, he can change a game anytime he wants but he HAS to give way to a new midfield and a new era. I’d rather have him come off the bench to steady the ship and see out games and only start him in the biggest of games or when someone else is being rested.

Disappointed more of the core group hasn’t had much of a pre season together and with p.Jones back in Manchester puts a little damper on things.

Cleverley was really good in the Olympics. I just hope he can stay injury free and get that short passing game with Kagawa, Rooney and Nani going. The football we played in the first couple of months of last season (before Cleverley got injured) is what we should strive after.

Bloomberg – Manchester United Ltd., the English soccer team with a record 19 national championships, received enough orders for all shares being sold in its U.S. initial public offering, said two people with knowledge of the matter.

  136. Mikekelly12 says:

    Wayne
If this is true surely more shares could be released to wipe out the debt completely, even with the Glazers getting their cut?

  137. wayne says:

Mikekelly hi mate crazy a,what i read because the stock only has a 10% voting value Glazers have barely given up fuck all so if the demand is that great you’d think they’d sell more,i thought they’d have trouble selling them.If true MUST must be pissed off

  138. Giggs12Gerrard0 says:

    Wayne

To be fair she is immense though :-)

  139. Mikekelly12 says:

I know mate, every logical sense in my body was saying that nobody in their right mind would want shares under these conditions. Under the structure 10% of the club only equates to giving up 2% of voting rights so even selling another 20% would see them retaining 94% of voting rights? Surely we can eradicate the debt with that?

  140. Mikekelly12 says:

Just what is she planning on doing with that thumb?!

  141. wayne says:

Giggs12 i know mate but the Canadian girls must be heartbroken got fucked over good so don’t really need to see her smiling face to remind me of it,I support Canada as much as i do Britain,if those girls had been screwed over would you want to see her smiling face with a thumbs up.

  142. wayne says:

Mikekelly you’d think mate, one thing the Glazers aren’t is stupid and these shares seem like a sweet deal for them

  143. Giggs12Gerrard0 says:

Mike if she is goind to do what i think she is then i will be doing the same to you on a 6-1 reversal at the council house next year.

  147. fergie is the boss says:

lets hope this 50 million is better spent on area’s we need strengthening, like a CB and a fullback, along with a CM, but if cleverly can stay fit, along with the impact kagwa and powell can make, we may have a good midfield after all

  148. fergie is the boss says:

Mikekelly12 – what is sad and pethetic, that it takes a shitload of cash, and a brainless teenager to think PSG of france is a better career path than united, maybe it is the city of manchester putting off foreigners joining. But it shows where prioretys are these days. Christ these rich TWATS really have been a pain in the backsides of united since 2003

  149. Mikekelly12 says:

    Giggs12
Does it have to be 6-1…. Can’t it be done on any United victory?!

  150. wayne says:

    FITB
PSG blatantly sticking two fingers up at FFP! But Platini won’t say fuck all will he?! PSG play in a pretty shit league will probably stroll to the league but that’s about as significant as Celtic winning the SPL next season!

  153. NotoriousRedDevil says:

Why is anyone even surprised with this Moura saga. Called it weeks ago, lets just drop it and move on. Say want you want rather get Sahin on loan. If that don’t work at least we can ship him back and save ourselves £30 million.

I am surprised about the shares supposedly selling out. I wonder what types of people have bought them, because from my understanding there isn’t any money to be made from those that purchase them. Unless the vast majority have been snapped up by supporters who have actually put their money where their mouth is unlike MUST who had every opportunity when we were a plc but did next to fuck all.

This time next year we will have a much clearer indication of where we are in terms of the debt. There are still unanswered question in terms of how the PIK’s were paid, and how we are going to pay the bonds in a few years. For now I’ll just sit and patiently wait.

  154. dannysoya LOVES SIAN MASSEY says:

WOW apparently the club has receied enough orders to go ahead with the IPO. Am kind of shocked and optimistic at the same time.

On the Lucas. Anyone who think PSG ( PSG FOR FUCK’S SAKE) is a better career path than United does not deserve to join this club EVER. He can earn his riches in Paris with his greedy agent ribeiro. I just hope we can get that midfielder or failing that, a solid Left Back with Cleverley becoming the permanent starter in the middle.

  155. NotoriousRedDevil says:

@fitb – Once Abramovich showed the world you can make sport a billionaires toy everyone got in on the act. Now cit-eh have done the same thing all the billionaires from the Middle East want to buy clubs and use them to stroke their own ego.

Its like one of them has a 100 Rolls Royces. Whats he going to do with 100 of them? It’s just buying them for the sake of buying them.

PSG is not a better career path than United, but the French has got better the overall standard isn’t great but they have a competitive top 8 and you can’t deny how much talent from those leagues make it in La Liga or PL. Moura will be using PSG as a stepping stone a la Ronaldinho except he’ll get paid a truckload of cash while he’s there before fucking off to Madrid.

  160. Robbo says:

    NRD

My understanding is that you buy the shares, no dividends, but if the value of the club rises, so do the share value. So you actually make the profit when you sell the shares. Therefore there is money to be made.
Maybe WAKEY can explain if that is how it works.

  161. NotoriousRedDevil says:

That does make sense Robbo. Cheers, but even still, if I put club loyalties aside from an investing point of view seems risky. Anyway they’ve sold and hopefully if nothing else it reduces the debt.

  162. CedarsDevil says:

Unconfirmed reports from unconfirmed sources have just confirmed that I am actually here! After noon all…..

So what’s the hot topic of the day? Got us any leeds fans on here for me bashing, or stoke fans for me mate NRD to bash?

  163. Wakey says:

    @Arjunited
What people seem to forget is not all investors are the same. Some want a ‘quick’ return via dividends and want voting rights to help to dictate how the business is run but others just want a solid stock that will gain in value and which they don’t need to get involved in business decisions.

It’s actually also better to get in early. The likelihood is more Class B will be converted to Class A and that actually increases the value overnight of the original shares

If you have 90 Class B shares with 10 votes and 10 Class B with 1 vote that gives 900 vs  10 votes OR 99% vs 1.09%. This gives each of the Class A shares a 0.109% ownership of the club

If a further 10 shares are converted it means Class B has 800 votes and Class A 20 votes which is 97.5% vs 2.5%. Each class A share gives a 0.125% ownership

    @Wayne & Mike
I don’t think at this point the Glazers actually want to pay off much more than the $100mill the original document mentioned  hence the change in where the money is going. It doesn’t change that much if they take half to cover some of the outlay and debt they personally acquired buying the club than if it all went to the part of the purchase costs thats secured against the club.

They now have 5 years for a market price to be set which should be higher than the initial price. Then when they feel the time s right they can convert more to Class A and pay off the remainder of  both their personal debt accrued purchasing the club and the debt secured against the club.

Makes more sense than selling too much now when price is lower than they will expect it to be in coming years simply to make relatively small savings

Unconfirmed reports have conformed that I frigging love you

  166. Esteban says:

Robbo – that’s right. The 10% just sold is entitled to 10% of the value on sale but only 2% of voting rights. Most people won’t hold shares all the way til the time, if ever, that someone buys the company, so most people will make their profit (or loss) selling into the market.

Interestingly, data shows that for companies where both classes trade, the low-voting shares don’t really trade at much of a discount. If you own any stocks, just think of the annual meeting circulars you throw in the trash – bottom line is that it is very rare for the voting rights to matter. You just have to trust that the guys with the votes want to maximize their own profits and you’ll ride along (and I assume no one worries about whether the glazers want to maximize their own profits).

  170. Wakey says:

If the IPO news is confirmed what will annoy me is once again MUST. Here them and their mouthpiece Andy Green are telling us (and any media outlet that will listen) that the IPO is struggling as no-one wants the shares only for them to sell out a few days later. It’s was the same with them saying the float was in trouble a few weeks back and that it would be shelved only for the announcement it was being pushed on with. It was also the same with the Bond issue where they told us there was no demand but they ended up selling and at a lower interest rate than initially expected as demand was so high.

It’s fine them not liking the Glazers ownership, it’s even fine if like it seems to me that what they want is a situation where MUST themselves have a sizeable ownership in the club but it’s been 7 years of constant lies to get the fanbase into an uproar so we can be used by MUST to do their dirty work. And all they end up doing is creating hostility between fans that helps no-one. Ive said it once and I will say it again what we really need is a new Supporters group. One that acts in an reasonable adult manner that’s willing to engage the club and Glazers rather than mud slinging at them and using the fans as a weapon to push through selfish agendas. Perhaps it’s something IMUSA could still do as they have been slightly less hostile and unreasonable so maybe haven’t burnt all their bridges but that’s touch and go

  171. wayne says:

i do remember sir alex talking abt agents . moura does have a fucking bad agent
HOPE WE SIGN ROBIN VAN PERSIE.
HOPE FLETCHER RETURNS VERY VERY QUICKLY.

  195. Wakey says:

    @wayne

Not that much really. In the most simple terms to buy the shares back it will cost the principle amount PLUS the interest due on until the bonds mature in 2017. So basically the same amount still needs repaid.

Now it’s not that simple, Bonds are traded on an open market and atleast at one point the rate was lower than the original purchas price so you can save money and investors may take a lower amount to get their money back sooner as it reduces risk to them (and obviously due to inflation money now is worth more than money in 5 years)

However the price can also increase and if the bond holders feel the club were desperate to buy back all the bonds now they could demand more.

When a release of the same number of shares later would see an extra £18mill made for ever dollar over the initial float price it’s easy to see how it could be more profitable to wait to release more shares than release more now and pay the bonds off now

The main benefit of buying them back now is it just makes the yearly accounts look better after the Buybacks year which can help budgets.

  196. ARUN says:

    @WAYNE
mate its his agent who said manchester is boring.its the same robinhos agent who had chelsea selling robinho shirts.isnt that funny. we just have to wait to hear from the player.he said he will speak after olympics.

To me, dozens of the anti-Nani comments you have posted are no different to the Berba-hate or Carrick-hate that we have all witnessed. Unnecessary, and not any different to CarBangRick’s abuse of Carrick, or NBI’s abuse of Berbatov.

Nani is the one player in ourteam who can make something happen when needed.. He is going to be crucial this season.. Young is great as well but not on par with nani..we’ll see nani magic when on the pitch with kagawa.. The passing between kagawa nani and cleverly, also anderson when fit will be great to see..

  209. RedManWalking says:

wayne I know the game is tomorrow, mate! I want the time.

ARUN – Isco looks like an Iniesta-esque player. I have stopped being attached to players before they join the club so I don’t have to be disappointed when he doesn’t join. But, the lad looks great. Close-body control, can dribble out of tight spots, excellent eye for a pass. Plays on wing as well as centrally.

    @eric keane
exactly iam sure everyone remembers how we played with ando and clev in the team last season
now with kagawa nani valencia rooney i think we should be realy good and also entertaining with plenty of goals.i think we will win the league and maybe one of the cups.but to win in europe i just think we need one more player the x factor i think sir alex is looking at that hazard was the one maybe hopefully we will sign ROBIN VAN PERSIE

    - Supporters do have the right to be critical of our own players.
    - It isn’t a crime to not rate a player highly.
    - Not rating a player highly does not make one less of a supporter.

ps Thank you for the tone of your references to Nani at 17:33.

  220. RedManWalking says:

wayne thanks mate! I live in India. I am taking that as 20.00 BST. So, that would be 00.30 IST.

  221. Che Guevarist says:

Watched the game and it was end-to-end, very entertaining stuff. Most people thought it was going to be a run in the park for the USA, but Canada really gave them a run for their money, and would have deserved the win. Then again, 2012 has not been too good football-wise…

  222. DreadedRed says:

I’d love Nani to be consistently near the top of his game.

That said, he did win player’s POTY a couple of season’s back, which shows that his ‘average’ must have been pretty good. Also, his ‘end-product’ can’t be that bad when his goals and assists stats are so good.

  223. Balaji Sivaraman says:

DreadedRed, I definitely agree with your eagerness to support a United player, it is something we’ve done quite a lot of times. However, the people criticizing Nani – in this instance Cedars, Wayne and myself – are different to the people who criticized Berbatov. The latter set was made up of people who were criticizing him when he had never even played. He was had a go at despite not even featuring in the team, which is sort of wrong, don’t you think? However, in Nani’s case, he features more often than not and he is very, very frustratingly inconsistent more often than not. So, I do think we have the right to consistently criticize a consistently inconsistent player without stooping down to insults, which I see that neither myself, Cedars or Wayne have done.

Wayne, Ex-fucking-actly mate! Having the ability to produce magic is one thing, producing it is a totally different thing. Nani’s doesn’t produce it often, and sometimes he doesn’t even show up. His passes are frustratingly woeful and he loses possession all the time. A standard example is the match against City away last season. He “could’ve” produced magic. He “could’ve” stepped up and been awesome. Instead, he was frustrating, trying stupid tricks when keeping it simple and finding a United team mate was needed. And he does that all the time. It is not a passing phase for him. It is how he is. It is probably the reason why he may never be compared with the world’s best. One day, it is going to be a title-decider for us, and it wouldn’t surprise me if he tried his little tricks without understanding the seriousness of the situation. Sure, it may come off and he may produce magic. But all the times it doesn’t, we’re losing possession, and consequently the match.

I’m not sure that ‘stooping down to insults’ against Nani was avoided.

Perhaps it was, in which case I agree with your comment.
We certainly don’t want or need anyone insulting Nani, or any other part of our great Club.

  226. slim says:

    Wayne

Nani spends as much time on the bench as the next winger at united. Injury form and a host if other factors play a part.I mean are we to infer from your post that Hernandez is not rated by SAF since he spent most of his time on the bench last year?
Simple litmus test. Young vs rafa , no contest ,the Brazilian will have him in his pocket. Nani?. He’ll skip past him time and time again. Same thing with tony v.
FFS didnt anyone see young play for ingurland at the euros? Utter dross. Nani on the other hand proved valuable to the national team and had an excellent tournament. Like someone hinted wait till you see him with kagawa and clevs, playing of roo or Danny the kid

  227. 911_DEVIL says:

Its mind boggling reading some of the stuff
We can only sing one NAME UNITED!!!

Hazard was regarded as a good footballer until he pissed off to chelsea

Moura a good player with great potentials and everyone was singing his name before PSG
showed interest in him, now its another story
That he seems destined for the french league.

Let’s fucking admit it, we’ll get players who as young kids dreamt to play for us
But let’s take out this thing that players should not get moved by money

Its a short career, and imo they should push for more before its too late.

Just my view guys if one doesn’t agree with it please I don’t want to be called names.
    Cheers

  228. NotoriousRedDevil says:

How can you not produce magic often with Nanis stats? If you dont like the player fair enough I think most our players are mercenaries with a bell end of a personality but you dont have those assists/goals by being inconsistent.

Based on last season Nani should have done better but that applies to the whole fucking team. We were cocky and complacent throughout the team last season, Fergie included.

Nani is class, so is the one dimensional Tony V and Young is just behind both of them.

If we want to be critical, Nani would have buried that chance at Blackburn in 2010. Would have bern more if a threat vs Barca in 2011 because he can USE a left foot.

Reading some if the stuff you would think they were in about Obertan.

  229. CedarsDevil says:

    slim

Mate, during the run in last season Young was always picked ahead of Nani who was fit and on the bench………Young helps out a lot on the defensive side of things when Evra goes missing…..Nani just stays stands on his spot waiting for the ball

  230. wayne says:

DreadedRed no doubt 2 seasons ago was his best year but how long has he been at the club, since the Carragher tackle hasn’t looked the same imo
Thing is with goals and assits with the firepower Utd have would expect a winger to do well,a lot of people don’t rate Young but his goals and assists last year are comparable to Nani’s and he has better defensive qualities.Rafa got a lot of stick for the Everton game but most of the attacks were coming from Utd’s left side,it was a weakness last year

  231. 911_DEVIL says:

  234. jeet says:

Nani is fucking class, just lay off him OK? I mean seriously, the only reason you guys find fault with him is because he shows you what’s possible and then it doesn’t come off nearly as often as you’d like. Most other players don’t even have that in their lockers. So honestly, my suggestion is to give it a rest. We’re lucky to have a talent like Nani at the club.

  235. slim says:

    Dreadedred
Love to see nani stats to youngs. Someone posted Tony v/nani comparison and it was mighty close. I wonder how that translates to inconsistent .
Magic? He’s got tonnes of it. Doesn’t always come off but at least hes got the balls to try it. Instead of trying Hollywood pass after hollywood pass. Valuable squad member and it’ll be our loss if we cant keep him at the club. Doesnt produce the magic enough i hear. What a load. and who does exactly?

What’s the latest on RvP mate?

  241. samuel - united WE stand says:

The mythical consistency that gets spouted on here. I have no doubt that nani is the best winger at united. Young does what he’s good at, never going to produce anything spectacular, never going to win a game. Good and solid, that’s it. he’ll never elevate into the world class bracket. Valencia is efficient, powerful, direct but again rarely ever will produces spectacle but still quality player.

Nani is the best out of the lot. Technically and creatively, he surpasses every winger united currently have. He more often than not produces in the biggest of games, he’s simply a match winner that can be ranked alongside wayne Rooney.

Nani joined united at 20years of age, he was always going to try everything to entertain but with more experience, he has honed his craft. He produces more and takes responsibility when someone like young would curl up into their shell. Nani is the only winger united currently have that can even be placed amongst the best.

I’ve always said, it’s easy to be work-man like. Run around like a headless chicken, whip in basic crosses that defenders easily neutralize. Nani offers more, he offers that magic to unlock any defence. His dribbling and confidence are his main strengths. He’ll continue to try something new or different, that’s exactly what you need to succeed at the very top. The players that are more brave will influence more, nani is exactly that. No wonder why real-madrid are wanting him, we’d be foolish not to give him a new contract and be left with ‘solid’ workman like ashley young.

I get bored of the consistency crap. Only messi produces anything close to that, players are NOT machines.

  242. jeet says:

Wayne, you don’t like him because he’s not hurrying up with the contract that’s different, but to keep on arguing about his supposed lack of ability is a fucking piss take, if you ask me.
Cedars – GGMU, GGMU and then some more GGMU! Now chillax, dude!

  243. DreadedRed says:

wayne – after the Carragher tackle Nani was badly affected, psychologically in my opinion.
He was hurt, and it could have been much worse, but that wasn’t what hit him hard.

Carragher callous disregard for Nani’s future, coupled with a blaze approach to any sanction he might get from the Ref or the FA, changed the landscape. A football pitch probably seemed like a mugger’s paradise, which is all that thug from LFC is.

Surely Nani’s not still affected? Physically he seems fine, but that wasn’t the issue.
Do you think he’s fearful now? If he is, he will likely leave immediately, yet he has been wanting to stay. Who really knows what is going on with any player’s deal-signing, not me.

DreadedRed no doubt 2 seasons ago was his best year but how long has he been at the club, since the Carragher tackle hasn’t looked the same imo

    Obertan >>>>>>>>>>>>> Nani

  246. 911_DEVIL says:

    Nani a quality player
It showed in euros, he’s unplayable he kept philip laham quiet the whole game

Imo he just needs some quality players who understands his play
Seems like he will get well with kagawa, they looked quite good in oslo
They opened up defence with ease with their slik short passing and dribbling ability.
He’s soo exciting and create goals out of nowhere
He’s just unlucky cause it happened that his best position is being played the most out and out quality and with quite an unbelievable work rate player in valencia

If your want the best out of him play him in right wing and I’m sure he’ll twist bloods with ease

  247. NotoriousRedDevil says:

@ jeet 18.13 – Spot on mate. Couldn’t have put it better myself.

As for Young, I remember him getting a load of stick on here throughout last season and this lovefest on him seems to have started since the season ended.

I’m glad we have got Young but to put him in the same category as Nani is barmy. He tracks back i read. So what? Most the time its ineffectual and I’ll even say Nani’s tracking back is probably the same as Youngs.

Its like when Scott pulls up the Berba threads to disprove the notion he doesn’t run and then shows us the stats and it turns out he does as much running as the next player.

It’s all about perception and Nani’s antics in his first few years have left some supporters with a chip on their shoulder about him which they won’t get rid of.

If he does leave we’ll have a worse squad and need about £35 million in todays market to put that right.

  248. samuel - united WE stand says:

When some have watched ‘chopper’ harris throughout their youth, they’ll never appreciate technique. Influx of european players has helped english football from utter tripe of hoof/ kick and rush. I remember making a fool out of william gallas in a FA cup game against arsenal and you hear dull fuckers with basic knowledge of the game come out with ‘he’s showboating’. No, it’s called skill and talent, something a lot of english players would dream to possess. Players with nani’s bravery and technique should be treasured, nurtured and encouraged. Not ridiculed because they complain about thugs trying to eliminate their career with cowardly tackles.

  249. jeet says:

    Kleberson better than Robbo!
    GGMU

  250. DreadedRed says:

slim – Nani’s stats will be good.
I don’t mind if other United players (eg Young, Valencia, whoever) also have great stats.
Nani is definitely one of the best wingers in Europe, in my view anyway.

What do you think about Tony at right back, with Nani in front of him?

  251. Dazbomber says:

CedarsDevil- I spoke to the same person Saturday , he said that we have him . Time to be patient me thinks. My thoughts on Nani are I think he has fantastic skill but when he has to make the big decision it’s usually the wrong one .

  252. CedarsDevil says:

Ooh he just falls over and cries, ooh he just falls over and cries and he goes by the name of Nani

    Ha ha ha

  253. NotoriousRedDevil says:

@samuel – Agree with most you said about Young except the part he will never win us a game. He scored a couple of important goals for us last year unfortunately the equaliser vs Basle meant jack shit in the grand scheme of things.

Cedars 18.29 – Even as a joke thats just uncalled for. I cannot let that lie SO

Keano > Robbo because Sir Alex Ferguson said so, so there :P :P :P :P

  254. jeet says:

Someone needs to take a walk, methinks ;)

  255. samuel - united WE stand says:

NRD – The idea that young is more effective because he tracks back has gotta be clutching at straws. Nani has and continues to excel in that but he’s miles better than young talent-wise. This debate is void as fuck.

  256. NotoriousRedDevil says:

OFF TOPIC – I’m guessing a few on here play computer games, Brother lent me his PS3 while I get better.

Its safe to say that in the last 20 years United have been the dominant force in English Football. In every single computer game I have played from Manchester United in Europe on the Amiga to Fifa 12 recently and including the Championship Managers on PC.

Why is it we’re not the best team? We win the league and yet they put us near the top but I’ve seen Chelski, cit-eh, l’arse, vermin, Blackburn and other European teams all have better stats than us. It was understandable the first few times but 20 years of it!!!! It’s got old and pathetic really.

Anyone else noticed the same thing?

  257. jeet says:

Pissing off to bed now, got to get up early to dress my son up for fancy dress event at school, lol
    Still, GGMU ;)

  258. CedarsDevil says:

Hope your kid has a great time pal

  259. samuel - united WE stand says:

NRD – Young has won some games but in the biggest matches, i would put nani up as making more impact. He’s won us the tighest of games and produces brilliance. People say he’s not consistent because his tricks sometimes fail to come off but at least he doesn’t hide away, he takes responsibility. united need players like nani. As someone suggest, kagawa will elevate nani’s impact even more. Two technically gifted players, they’ll be on the same wavelength and we’ll be seeing some sumptuous creative attacking play.

  260. wayne says:

jeet need to reread my posts mate never once had a go at his ability and never said I don’t like him,I always try to put imo, some posters write a lot on nonsense about Tony V and Young but because they belive it must be fact
Nani on his day thrills me but a lot of the time drives me mad and would pick Tony V every time and think Young is also a quality winger
So imo Nani is overrated till he gets consistent and gets a big break from fans because of odd flashes of brilliance doesn’t mean I don’t rate him

  261. CedarsDevil says:

    NRD

Really? Now why don’t you do one and piss off as well! ha ha ha

  262. Devil310 says:

    Dreadedred
In times if emergency I’d have tony v at rb but his best is on the right wing. If I have a criticism of nani is that he can and should be making the left wing his own. Tony v provides balance with his style and all round direct type of play.

Talking of cry babies,I bet Rooney is the biggest of them all. you can be sure he’s always I’m Fergies ear about playing better with tony v. He’s shown he can’t play well with ball players. Berbatov and nani are prime examples. Very disappointed about that. Anyone can bang on about his tap in and headers but the Wayne we knew promised much much more. I hope he gets is finger out his mouth and shows some real intent now we’ve got a proper number 10 in the shape of kagawa

  266. Costas says:

Something is void as fuck in here, but it’s not the debate. Accept that everyone is entitled to their own opinion on whether Young or Nani is more valuable to the team.

Good thing Sir Alex doesn’t rate some players as some fans in here do.

  267. DreadedRed says:

Crewe’s new striker Mathias Pogba will prove a ‘nuisance’ to League One defences. Pogba, elder brother of ex-Manchester United midfielder Paul, hit 12 goals for Wrexham last season before leaving to join the Alex on a two-year deal. Pogba has been scoring regularly in Crewe’s pre-season games and looks set to make his official club debut in Saturday’s League Cup first round opener against Hartlepool. The bulky 6ft 1 in striker will make a contrast with the man he replaces in the Alex front line, last season’s top scorer Nick Powell.

It seemed as if speedy winger was destined to head out of manchester quotes attributed to him suggested he had criticised united boss sir alex early in 2009/10 season, yet nani bounced back from that episode to turn out some nice display for both club and country

Speedy and unpredictable, the lack of clarity in his game may be one of his best qualities. It often seems like has if nani doesn’t know what he’ll do next and if that is the case, his opponents have little hope of second guessing him. Trying to fill cristiano ronaldos boots at united habe proved impossible, but he had a good try in the second half of 2010-11 premier league with a memorable performance against arsenal the highlight of jis best campaign yet for united.

His two goals in the champions league vs bayern munich in april 2010 appeared to crown the revival in his fortune at united, only for the germans to stun old trafford with two dramatic away goals to dump the 2008 european champions out of the CL.

The tricky winger continued to improve in 2010-11, particularly when he created rested firmly on his shoulders following antonio valencia ankle break kept him out for 6 months. Nani contributed more assist (18) than anyone in the premier league last season and started the 11/12 season with a blistering brace vs manchester city in the community shield.

Strengths: on top form, the portuguese winger can be a nightmare for defenders. A bundle of pace and trickery, his ability to create and score spectacular goals makes him an important outlet.

Weaknesses: defensively weak and still too bofen wasteful in possession needs to understand that sometimes the simple pass or cross will do.

Quotes: ”nani has got potential to do what he wants, he’s one of the sharpest players around, has got strike with both feet – he’s got the potential to be a top – player.” Rio ferdinand praises his team mate in may 2010.

Anyway, onto someone who actually talks sense. Phelan on our injury problems:

“As a club, you look at the issues that may have caused injuries. Some of those are created on the pitch and there’s not a lot you can do about that. Maybe some have crept in through overuse or overwork but we’ve analysed those things and we’re sure our players are prepared for what’s always a hard league. All of these players are preparing for what could be a season of 60-plus games. That takes time, obviously. What we try and get to is a point where everybody is fit for selection in the first game of the season.”

  343. Wakey says:

    @samual

It’s not a myth about Nani being inconsistent as he is.

However people do put too much importance on consistency. Yes its important if it’s a player who can’t do something special for example Young or Valencia but when a player can do something special it’s a trade off.

You are after a single moment of personal magic ever couple of games to justify their inclusion over a player like Valencia/Young.

    @NRD
It’s to do with United policy that the team is more important than individuals. We don’t always have the best player on paper for each position but have the most compatible  squad that’s greater than its parts.

Most computer games struggle to model the team aspect (Football Managers perhaps the best) so the parts are more important than the collective

  344. prasan_UTDfan4life says:

The commentator said at the start of the 2nd half that Wankini is present at OT for this match. I’m just wondering if he’s planning to blow all of his 200 mn transfer budget on Neymar!

  360. Giggs12Gerrard0 says:

    Samuel

I don’t know his club side but sounds like it from what Mike and yourself have said. He looked very Carrick like for sure.

  361. The team that wouldn't die says:

To say Valencia or Young is > better than Nani is like saying:
    Ralphe Milne > George Best!

Nani is our only winger with world class skills. Actually only Vidic, Rooney, Kagawa and Rooney have that sort of level in our squad. It’s a good thing we have some younger prospects that might get there: De Gae, Jones, Raphael, Cleverley, Welbeck and maybe Powell, too soon to really tell if the potetial is there.

We’ve allways had excitng wingers. Even in bad times: Copell, Hill, Olsen, Strachan, Sharpe. It’s part of the United legacy. In an old fashion 4-4-2 there’s no better way than to have two fast wingers. With modern football and all the 3-2-1-3-1 4-2-3-1 …actually insert any number you want as long as it adds up to 10 :) its different. But we are at our best when different! Boring cunt sides like Chelsea and City have “wingers” like Malouda and Johnson….!!!! I rest my case.

  362. CedarsDevil says:

    Mike

Cheers for the pictures mate, you sure took me down memory lane……Gary Bailey, fuck me side ways what a keeper

  363. samuel - united WE stand says:

  366. samuel - united WE stand says:

Giggs12 – He plays for celtic, a real quality player. He can be a threat going forward too but always has an eye for a dangerous pass. Won’t cost much if FERGIE uses his links in glasgow but doubt it.

japan/Korea/China’s football has improved massively. All technicians with the ball, producing attacking playmakers like kagawa, honda, lee chung yong.

  367. Mikekelly12 says:

  370. Giggs12Gerrard0 says:

  371. 911_DEVIL says:

    Carrick

    Nani. Scholes. Young

    Kagawa

    Rooney-

And that will do for me for today
    Laters folks!!! Cheers

  372. NotoriousRedDevil says:

@ Wakey – Thats a good point about individuals never saw it like that. I’m being biased but when Fat Frank gets a higher rating than Scholes, then thats just a piss take.

@ samuel 22.01 – I’m not surprised at all. They focus on the fundamentals and work extremely hard on the stamina side of things. Those countries have made great strides in the economic world and the only thing missing is sporting excellence which they are motivated as a nation in rectifying.

    England should take note.

  374. Devil310 says:

@NotoriousRedDevil – good example. I’m an avid Fifa gamer. PES doesn’t compare, especially since the last release, but it does piss me off that some of our players ratings seem below par. Take Pique as an example. Was rated about 73 during his last seasons at United. 2 years later, he’s at Barca and is one of the highest rated defenders in the game. Carrick is another example. Most consistent CM in the PM gets an 80 rating. Piss take! ….and yes, Arkham City is addicting as fuck. But I’m currently hook with Battlefield. Pretty good game if you like FP shooters.

  375. fergie is the boss says:

The team that wouldn’t die – have you seen valancia in full force, his ability to beat a man cannot be matched. And the way he can cross a ball, that is world class ability. You are overrated nani, who is an overrated player. yea he does some fancy footwork, but that’s all it is, fancy footwork. Yes Nani is talented, but he aint much better or I will say Valencia is our best wide player, because of the way he can destroy a fullback, and put in those devastating crosses. Valencia and rooney partnership, is as good has the beckham van nistlerooy partnership, and many called beckham world class

  376. Zibbie says:

You dad, wife, boss, dude at work who can not shut up about Liverpool? Who not me you angry angry fools…
    GO ROONEY!!!!!!!!!!

  379. The team that wouldn't die says:

    Fergie is the boss
Nothing against Valencia or Young. Both are among the best wingers in the PL. Able to score vital and great goals and deliver trop crosses. Valencia is special in that he’s determined, serious and single minded. His crosses are better than most players in the PL. In these days with whinging “superstars” it’s easy too se why a very good player like him is popular. (Scholes is in a division for him self when those criterias are considered – serious and skilled)
Problem is when you play the 5 best teams in the world you need more on your repertoir. Nani has got that something extra. We’ve tried to beat Barca with Park and Valencia. Well it wasn’t enough. You need quick feet in midfield like Tom Cleverley and some magic up front. Kagawa looks the deal. Nani has shown that he has that extra gear. Rooney when on a roll is there. Who else?

Wayne @ 22:08: “consistency is what separates pros from amateurs, top pros from journeyman pros, world class from top pros”

And then there’s SirRyanGiggs – a player who flits between the ridiculous and the sublime.

When Giggs is on-song he’s still an awesome talent at 39; but when he’s not at-the-races then he’s like the little girl with the curl right in the middle of her forehead – horrid. AND, he’s been like that for as long as I’ve watched him play.

    Same goes for Luis Nani.

  382. Zibbie says:

This hole Nani thing is awesome, Nani has stats, flash yet , not SAF trust in big games. Just luck Berba. Berbagurgatation for 2 fucking years, looks like Nani to take his place. If SAF the deliverer of 37 trophies, has no confidence to start them in big games..!!!! WTF dogs with a bone on Berba. No team offering the $ to get him?!!!!!! Yet he is so classy, fuck make me sick, I want a greedy striker! He is an old fashion in the box guy, plays no defense but still. 22 guys here will repeat the same shit fro 2 years ago as it is new. Like a dog coming back into a room to mouch food. I have never done this before hi best friend O -U have food!!!! Same shit.
Now Nani takes his place. Wow Tony gets the #7 TV7 and Young , SAF picked for all big games. Fuck a step over gets people. EVERY TEAM NANI PLAYS ON!!!! MUFC his NAT SIDE!!!! he pisses people off, BUT . BUT, BUT, if I repeet the same thing on every thread and 716 posts saying the same thing a different way, I WIN!!! no fucking way U win. I see through U!!!
Oh never looked at it THAT WAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
LICK ME EAT ME CHEW ME, FOR I AM A BIG, BLACK, JELLY BEAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
PADDY MUFC play by play guy slamming Nani, he is at his frustrating best!!!!! O player of the year 2 years back, Rooney hurt, legiments did not heal till Jan, see him as the best in the 2nd half!!!! Nani by default one that!!!!!!!! wow some fucking people. Long RoM season with this shit!!! NANI THERE IS NO CRYING IN FOOTBALLL!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  383. Zibbie says:

Ask every MUFC player to pick a RW to play with against a big club late in the season, MUFC team votes, 22 for TV7 1 for nani and one for Lassie.

  384. Zibbie says:

For every gut wrenching Berba post the last 2 years now will be replaced with Nani shit, OF FUCKING COURSE!!! SAME SHIT JUST INSERT NEW NAME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! All theory no game. Land of academia VS real world, does this help some?

    It’s Berba’s fault!

  388. wayne says:

denton can’t compare Nani and Giggs,Nani has had one great season, prior to 2010 alot of Reds thought he’d be out the door.Giggs is the most decorated footballer ever and i’d argue as he’s matured become way more consistent
My point is though Nani has all the skills to be world class but has to show it on a more consistent basis.Pretty well take any sport any level what seperates the good from ave is consistency.Lots of Golfers can shoot 64 so have the skill set not the mindset. How many Goalies can have a brillant game then 1 fuck up is all that anyone remembers, doesn’t matter how great he is without consistency won’t stay with a top team
My feelings on Nani still has to take that next step to be considered World Class

  389. edcunited1878 says:

Nani can turn a game on its head in an instant. He can come up with match defining moments out of the blue when it’s badly need like like against City in last year’s Community Shield or last year against Chelsea at Old Trafford – Fergie is still cleaning his glasses because he didn’t see the lightning goal Nani scored.

Just like Gareth Bale against United, Valencia’s influence on a game can be minimized against stronger opponents if he is forced to pick up the ball farther away from the half way line, plays more infield or has to defend before going forward. With Nani, he can float inside, use both feet and play through the middle. Nani in space can dribble in circles, left or right.

Both players have their strengths and compliment each other. United wouldn’t be as good if they didn’t have both.

  394. Costas says:

We can debate about whether Nani’s end product is better than Young’s (which it is), whether Young tracks back more (which he does) or about who deserves to start more games. Likewise for the Nani-Valencia comparisons. However, there’s no doubt that United needs Nani, badly. Whether it’s goals or assists, the guy has been our most productive player in the last 3 seasons. And he was United’s best performer in this summer’s Euro tournament.

Man those rants get me scratching my head sometimes, tryina make sense of it all lol. I get the gist though. And i Agree (or at least what i got from it  )

Nani is a player who has worldclass potential. He’s shown it a number of times over his stay at United; we’ve had some truly beautiful moments that have come from Nani.

But I also see what Wayne is saying. HE NEEDS to improve on his consistency. This is not up for debate. Both sides (pro nani and against him) will have to agree on that. Personally I believe he’s still above Young and should be started along AV7. I believe as he matures as a person he will mature as a player too.

A lot of people want him sold, or maybe not as much, but let’s just say they wouldn’t really miss him if he’s gone. Well, I’m against selling players with so much potential, simply because one fine day, you’ll come to realize he’s finally matured as a player and has reached the heights so many believed he could reach, or even if he doesn’t maybe he just becomes a really good player, just not the worlds best. Well how much is it going to SUCK, having dealt with his inconsistencies and inadequacies just to sell him and let someone else benefit from a complete and whole, fully performing Nani. I know I would.

  399. JC says:

:P in case someone can’t understand that Im taking the piss. Giggs is a legend, Nani has the tools to be one if he wasn’t “up to his frustratingly best” so often as Paddy Crerand likes to say and stayed at that level with the team another 5+ seasons or so. I wholeheartedly hope that this season we see the same Nani that won our Players Player of the Year 2 seasons ago.

  400. Costas says:

    @wayne

Hi mate. No I haven’t looked at them from that point of view. As far as that season goes, Nani didn’t score again after the tackle. And with Valencia returning from his ankle injury to sublime form, Nani found himself on the bench quite a lot in the last 2 months of the season. Other than the Bolton and Fulham games at OT, he didn’t have a hand in any more goals that season. So I guess you could say his contributions dried up after that tackle (combined with Valencia’s return). But I don’t think it had any long term effect. The start he had in the 11-12 season was brilliant. Overall, he had the same amount of goals as he did in 10-11 and 2 less assists.

  405. fergie is the boss says:

samuel – united WE stand and The team that wouldn’t di – nani has never done it over a whole season, he starts out strong fizzles out in the middle, and as a good end to the season sometimes. But he is very inconsistent, But he does it when he feels like, and yes he is a good player, but he is replaceable, Nothing against nani, it did not matter who started against barca, united would have lost anyway, because the central midfield was not good enough to even compete against barca, that is why park and valencia started

and samuel to say the UK only appreciates donkeys in this country is ridiculous, not everyone sees what you see with nani, and think he is this sensational player which he is not and he still has not done it enough in a united shirt, he aint no giggs or beckham, let alone compare him to the greats like ronaldo or best. He can be replaced, but for this season united will keep him. Like I say, he is a very good player, but not a great player

  406. Udhala says:

  407. denton davey says:

Wayne @ 0:10: “denton can’t compare Nani and Giggs”

    I agree – and disagree.

BUT, SAF’s wonderful description – “like a spaniel chasing silver paper in the wind” – was made about young Ryan Wilson Giggs almost twenty-five years ago yet it also applies to Luis Nani.

Of course, SirRyanGiggs is the most decorated player in UTD history and a true Legend (which is not a description I use lightly) so the comparison falters in that regard.

However, my main point was that BOTH players are incredibly inconsistent – both between matches and within matches. To some extent, as was stated earlier by someone else (sorry for not providing the reference), to a significant extent their “inconsistency” and their “brilliance” are the product of having big balls and the courage to try amazing things which sometimes work – and sometimes don’t.

This is sometimes called inconsistency but, equally, it’s the-downside-of-up with rare talents – a kind of “live by the sword, die by the sword” approach to the game. Pele had it, Maradona had it, and so did Georgie Best. What a boring game it would be without guys like that – and Giggs and Nani – raising the stakes but sometimes rolling snake-eyes.

  408. utd_fc says:

    Denton.

Nice analogy mate. Seems funny that we’re comparing Giggsy to Nani but there you go. Guess its just one of ‘those’ days.

I gotta say though, we gotta preserve our talented players. And not just United, the EPL, and English football on the whole needs to stop relying so much on physicality and start focusing more on technical skills. Especially in the midfield. We’ll never be able to compete with the best of the best otherwise. And no I don’t mean twatalona.

Even tho its pre-season I hope we crush em tomorrow :D

    Scholes carrick anderson
    Nani. Kagawa
    Rooney

  412. Eric keane says:

Re the nani debate : we are all spoilt fans. We have three of the best wingers in the PL and we still have problems with one of them.. I say just enjoy the fact that we’re spoilt for choice, it could be worse one of them could be downing.
All three of them provide somthing different
Valencia gives just the directness and consistent threat from crosses. Also the versatality in attack since he can also play as a fullback.
Nani, whatever you may say, gives us an unpredictability bit like his goal in the chelsea game at OT last season.
Young gives us a left winger with a great crossing ability and a good set piece delivery who can also track back and help out evra since he bombs forward acting as a second left winger so often.
Im my opinion we cannotcompare these three players. We’re made a better unit by all three of them

  413. jeet says:

For anybody who’s still interested, an interesting stats article on Nani.

    http://www.eplindex.com/5851/nani-now-and-then-stats-comparison.html

It’s clear that 2010-11 was his best season, and that 2011-12 hasn’t been as good, with injuries being a major contributory cause.

However, it’s interesting to see that he seems to be doing a fair amount of defensive work, for a flair winger. I couldn’t find comparables (in itself an odious task, but if we must get into it we must, eh?) for Young/Valencia, but I’d bet a tenner that they’d be damn close. The “he doesn’t track back” perception is a bit if a myth in my opinion, just like the “Berba doesn’t run”, or “Berba is a limited in the box striker” thing.

Anyway, as far as I am concerned, we are lucky to have three high calibre wingers at United. There are enough games for all three to get their fair share, and each bring unique strengths (as well as weaknesses) to the table. No point in comparing – I love them all (though I still get offended by the shape of Young’s head :) )

  414. Corea says:

I am sure we will find the way to live without Luis Nani. It’s only my wish and/or humble opinion but when one isn’t on the football pitch there are still 11 men on it. What Nani does a team without him would do. Of course one can argue but i have my way of seeing the game and of course it’s not always about the pragmatic side.
Lucas Moura isn’t coming to us so it is a straightforward thing to keep Nani and hope he grows into more unselfish and balanced player. But there is always a chance to play certain Kagawa on the wing or to develop some other ideas.
Ronaldo wasn’t the most unselfish player but somehow he managed to keep me comfortable during the football game.
But anyway, we are all different. Simply happy we have Kagawa the player from Japan who will add unselfishness and something to the _team_ game of football.

  415. Corea says:

And another thing. Young or Nani on the left wing ? Young anyday.
Nani or Valencia on the right wing ? Valencia anyday.
Bechham wasn’t Luis Nani. But we somehow managed to win things and play a wonderful football on the way.

  416. jeet says:

Corea – how’s the The Great Romance going, mate? :)

Look, if Nani starts holding the club to ransom, I’ll queue up with all of you to open the door for him. Nobody’s saying that Nani’s bigger than the club, or he’s indispensable. Neither is Rooney for that matter, but that’s a different debate.

But what gets my goat is people who question his ability or his contribution. There’s no way someone like Moura, a greenhorn, is going to straight away step into Nani, or even Ashley Young’s shoes. That’s just transfer giddiness.

And, ohh, Kagawa isn’t supposed to be that good on the wing…I’ve seen him play on the wing, and one, he isn’t the sort of classic winger United like to have (more like a Nasri/ Silva), and besides he’s way more effective when playing behind the center.

  417. jeet says:

Corea, have to disagree about your choice of wing players too. Before I elaborate my reasons, let me put the disclaimer that I love all the wingers, but I also see their strenghts and weaknesses.

This is going to get controversial, but TonyV is not always the best choice, IMO. Away from home, against experienced, technically accomplished fullbacks, I’d have Nani over Valencia every fucking day. Primary reason being Valencia’s rightfootedness, and the fact that he’s somewhat “predictable” (thing is though that he’s so good, fast and strong, most defenders can’t do jackshit even if they know exactly what he’s going to do next). Look at what Barca did to him. In the little time Nani came on, he showed more promise than Valencia had done the whole match. Think of it this way, if we came up against a next gen Maldini (Lahm?), I’d choose Nani everytime for one of the wing slots.

Ashley Young – I think his great strengths are his experience, cool head, smarts to draw the foul, and quality set piece delivery. But, again, he’s almost exclusively right footed, and his bag of tricks doesn;t even start to compare with Nani’s. And ohh, for those crying “inconsistent”, Ashley Young has hardly been consistent throughout the season, has he now?

So, let it rest…all three youngers have their strengths and weaknesses, all three have contrubuted big time, and hopefully will continue to do so. Let’s be appreciative of them, but the comparisons are just meaningless in my opinion, as you will never reach conclusive answers even if you keep debating the whole day through, like we’ve been doing :)

  418. jeet says:

In my last job, my boss (best guy I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with) used to share critical feedback on my execution skills. He used to cite an example of a peer (unimaginative, but decent hardworking sort of chap) – “Learn from him”.

One day I pointed out that I get ten ideas, 3 are shot down (no problems there), I work upon 4 and 2 work out brilliantly, and the other 3 I can’t work on because I don’t have the time or resources. The other guy gets one good idea and brings it to fruition. Who’s more valuable to you? Shut him, that did!

So, Nani has to work on making his brilliance and his ideas work more often. No question about that. But, that criticism becomes irrelevant when you bring in the comparisons. Because output wise, they are all damned close. Nani can do better, simply because he has the potential to. He needs to fulfil that potential. But what he has right now is not too bad either, and is comparable to the max performance of less talented (not “untalented”) footballers.

  419. CedarsDevil says:

    Morning all

    @jeet – nice posts.
Romance thing lost it’s romanting side. Dunno whose fault it was but you do not always get straight answers in life. That’s why one could call life beautiful sometimes. ;)

I don’t like Nani. As a footballer of course. I don’t know him in person but is also pretty irrelevant.
I stressed that it is only my humble opinion and the way i see things.
But if i had to choose my choice would be exactly the same.
Of course different teams and different scenarious require diferent set ups. Fergie has had his mind set on the rotation system for a pretty long time now. So everything counts.
But i can’t force myself to suddenly like the player just because i get to see rare flashes of brilliance from him. Most of the time i get irritated during the football game and of course it’s only my personal problem. Maye i am a bit maximalistic and want the perfect thing which is not always going to be the case because _the result_ is what matters for the bussiness side and for the pleasure of the players.
I always hope we win things playing TonyVs, Ji Sung Parks, Wayne Rooneys, Chicharitos, Vidics, Scholseys, Berbas etc. But you wouldn’t get that.

As for Ashley Young. He was one of our best players before he got injuried. After coming back from injury he needed some time and then continued to play good football again. So i wouldn’t judge the whole season as far as Ashley Young is concerned. It was his first season with us and he earned every single penny we paid for him.

    Cheers.

I don’t know what the position is but if Scotland want to take him, it’s probably just to be part of the squad and to introduce him back into that. But there’s a long, long way yet for Darren Fletcher before we see him playing again.”

    On Phil Jones:
“We just sent him back. There’s no point having a player out here if he can’t train so we sent him back. He’s had an examination and should be ready for Thursday or Friday at the end of this week.”

  442. Balaji Sivaraman says:

Regarding the Nani debate, my opinions have been voiced out. But I will also say this that he works best with people who understand his irregular movements and his enigmatic attitude and play according to that. As I said after the game against Valerenga, where he was awesome with Kagawa, he has worked best with people like Cleverley, Berbatov, and recently Kagawa. All of them are people who can bring the best out of other players. They are all great on the ball and share amazing understanding with teammates.

In contrast, Rooney and Nani have never clicked. We can attribute this to ego (if we want, though I doubt) or we can attribute it to them being similar players in the final third, as in both of them want to do it themselves rather than enable others. They both take on the defenders and do a lot of work on their own. Ideally, they both want players who just enable them in this process. Who provide a neatly threaded ball here, who are there to receive from them when they get crowded out and who can just keep the game moving.

The aforementioned three players are all like that. They are enablers. That is why I keep saying Kagawa is the real deal and he is inarguably going to be our most important player this season, dare I say more important than Rooney in one sense (let the flaming begin). He’s going to link the mid-field to attack and enable the rest of our awesome players to do what they do best, tear teams apart.

RVP: Radio Voice Phenomena is paranormal, and is captured with the use of a FM/AM radio designed to keep constantly scanning the airwaves never locking on to any one frequency. Whilst the device scans it creates a static type white noise intermixed with random actual radio broadcasts (blips) which creates a chatter of sorts that is then supposably used by the spirits to manipulate into words for communication. The words are formed by using this chatter not speaking over it, so all of the noise is needed to communicate successfuly in real time, which means your hear the voices as they speak not later in a recording.

RVP: Reid Vapor Pressure, a measure of a gasoline’s volatility.

I’m picking up paranormal chatter about an explosive meeting in the OT car-park.

The Manchester Evening News is convinced United have won the battle to sign Arsenal captain Robin van Persie. Although the Footballer of the Year is in Germany with the Gunners, the local newspaper “understands van Persie could jet in to sign as early as tonight”. It adds that the Reds will pay around £20million for the Dutchman, who is out of contract next year

Looks like FFP will have a great effect on the clubs bankrolled by oligarchs!? They’ll find away around the system by inflating ‘in-house’ sponsorship deals like the Berties’ do with Etihad. Nice idea in principle but completely unworkable. PSG could never sustain their level of spending based on their revenue so how are they throwing cash around like confetti?

I’m not going to slag Moura, but when I saw this morning that he referenced ‘the project’ I’m glad that he wont be coming to us. An exciting but expensive gamble he would have been.

The media revel now these ‘sugar daddy’ clubs have come along to ruffle the established order of European football. However, it will lead to the ruin of the game for a lot of clubs. I hope Utd never over spend to try and match what they are doing. If that means building with our own and not winning trophies for a while that’s something we’ll have to face. Better to try and win from a level playing field in my eyes. Wenger, what ever you think of him as a bloke, has a valid point when he whinges about these super-rich clubs.

Yes, Utd have broken the British transfer record onmany occasions. But it was Utd’s money to spend, something Bertie and Chelsea fans can’t get their massive heads around.

And people wonder why it’s called silly season…

  478. mancdub says:

    Red
I think your being a bit dramatic saying we can’t attract big names because a 19 year kid decided to go the money. Kagawa is a massive signing. He’s the big signing this summer. Anyone else is just a bonus.

  479. TheCANTONA says:

I’d rather we sign Nuri Sahin than Moura TBH…

  480. Colbert says:

In an ideal world we’d sign Baines, RvP and a midfielder, and get rid of Berbatov and maybe Anderson too.

  484. DreadedRed says:

The United world that I occupy has a very strong squad, and is not looking to get rid.

  485. Colbert says:

    @mancdub

Yup. He looks very very raw. Too big a gamble, he’s not a sure thing like Rooney was at that age.

  486. ji sung says:

@red – who’s says mouras a big name? Had u ever heard of the lad b4 we were linked with him?

  487. Colbert says:

    @Costas

I fear you are right. But why haven’t we sold Berbatov yet? What is the hold up? He clearly isn’t part of Fergie’s first team plans (as seen last season), he’s a big earner and he’s on the wrong side of 30. If we want to recoup some of the money spent on Berba we should let him go now.

  488. Colbert says:

    @DreadedRed

Oh come on, nothing is ever ideal. If it was you would have nothing to strive for.

  489. DreadedRed says:

Colbert – I’m happy to strive for the ideal, but that doesn’t mean getting rid of Berbatov and Anderson, and bringing in Baines, RvP and a midfielder.

    My ideal world is different.

    An example:
Ideally, I’d like Ando to have a great season at United.

  490. Costas says:

    @Colbert

I think we wanted to use his name value on our tour given the absences we had. Plus, we haven’t received an offer that satisfies our or his demands. The latest I heard was that Zenit were interested. I can’t see him staying due to the reasons you mentioned, but the fact that he can leave for nothing in 12 months won’t attract plenty of tempting offers.

  491. markynorbs says:

Wow £36m? for some kid from Bazil no one really knew until United payed some attention to him. Football going loco!!!

  492. Corea says:

I wonder why we aren’t holding other clubs to ransom these days. Seen article where “Fergie is angry about not getting any of his targets – Moura and Hazard” but why no one is striving to pay £20mln for Anderson for example and we wanting to get £30 at least ?
Maybe being the big club is an answer ?
    Mad world (c)

  493. Corea says:

“Ideally, I’d like Ando to have a great season at United.”

I want all of them having great season.
In fact Anderson is a lucky guy on the one hand. So many opportunities and chances given. On the other hand a couple of injuries and not being played in the position he was brought on to play initially.
Maybe getting his fitness back and losing some kilos might help the case ?

It looks like hope is our only hope. At least we have rejuvenated Michael Carrick and at least 20-25 games out of Paul Scholes. Though Michael Carrick isn’t necessary going to provide us with attacking flair and much-awaited (me wants it badly) attacking and dynamic football.

  494. The team that wouldn't die says:

    Rant start:

I think it’s sad that we are signing RvP. He’s a dick for not resigning at the club who made him good. Moura obviously is a small child with no grasp of European culture or virtues. Money grabbing whore. PSG – “project” my ass. Well at least the fan core in Paris are sceptical to the project as they feel the arabs are not letting them be a part of it. Not that City have ANY doubts about that it’s only fair they should have success now, when they’ve never managed anything but to lie for the past 40 years alone with their high morally grounded loyal enormous biter bunch of liars. No democracy down there and you can be jailed for kissing in the streets. If you say you are gay you can be sentenced to death. That’s what they support. If you don’t believe me – look it up! MEN certainly don’t want the truth out in the open, as they clear any message saying what’s there for everyone to see on the internet. It would be too much for them to take in. The truth. They make me really, really want to puke.

Problem is that to get back at the madness we have to strengthen too fast. And it’s not like Barca or Real can claim they are purely developing own players and buying from own revenue either. Barca especially make me sick. It was a pleasure to watch Clev and Ando beat them last summer. The way they hijack players with their cocky macho attitude. That’s real ARROGANCE! Yet we are the ones called arrogant. Unbelievable!

We drag a greedy, demonic empathy less bunch of useless shite through the world every day. We are the Glazers daily bread. Now Malc will rip us of a futher 150m to give his ugly sons a late bar mitzva present. Yet we manage to be up there and attract players that WANT to be with us. It’s fantastic, and we couldn’t have done it without SAF. If all the media, including MEN weren’t so ABU we would be praised every day for what a fantastic football club we are! “More than a club” – Barca. Where would you be if you had to try and buy Villa, Fabregas, Sanchez and Mascherano with your own non existent revenue? I’ll tell you: in the middle of that boring no where la liga, way behind decent teams like Bilbao and Atletico.

Don’t get me started on Juventus. I hope we beat the shit out of them in Europe this year. To think ablout Roy and the boys when they cam back in Turin to beat them in that manner in THAT match. That’s the never say die United spirit that will bring us back to the crown.

    Rant over

  495. Zibbie says:

  496. utd_fc says:

If moura doesn’t happen which it doesnt look like happening anyways then i still think we’re set for the season. A little more creativity from the wings would’ve been interesting but i doubt a raw 19 year old was gonna be an immediate solution ffs people.

also i was wondering why we didn’t take advantage of the malaga clearance sale. should’ve bid for cazorla if only to bulk up wenger’s price. It pisses me off how he works these bargains, he’s cheap as fuck but he really manages to take advantage of these situations.

    Corea
We can hold other clubs hostage when teams are interested in a player and want to pry him away. I don’t think any big club would be looking to pry Ando away especially when he barely plays all season!!

That being said i’d love if Ando could step up this season and really show people why we invested so much in him. He’s another one that needs to get consistent with his play, and that’s only gonna happen if he gets a steady run of games under his belt. Don’t think i need to point out that a player injured half the season cannot do much for the club

Love him or hate him, Wenger puts all his faith in his players and that’s something i respect. Unfortunately for the fool that faith has not been repaid by pretty much any of his players.

And honestly, i love when other fans call us arrogant. It shows us how strong a fire is lit underneath their asses when they see us dominate and succeed.

  503. Vilhelm28 says:

I don’t think we need to worry too much about Nani, he will be sold shortly. The Glazers are not in it to build the best team and squad in Europe, they are in it to make money. Easy as that. They are underbidding both Welbeck and Nani, just like they did with other players. If SAF was able to speak the truth, we would really know what happened to Pogba.

We will not pick up any world class players in the near future, because the Glazers are in charge. Diss me as much as you want, but its sadly true. We will lose Moura, due to the Glazers, because they refuse to pay the agent. Other teams will.

In the end the “true” fans on this site will sum it all up and tell players to fuck off for being glory hunters and only in it for the money, when the truth is – the richest club in the world is cheap.

It might work a couple more years, but when SAF leaves, I cant see us floating with this policy. But we know the Glazers will be laughing all the way to the bank.

    Just sad, tbh

The moura deal looks in absolute tatters. I always knew united stood no chance of signing him, it sounded too good to be true. Apparently the player find manchester a little boring, i guess the city is not the place for a party loving brazilian. Glad he’s off to france and join the oil project, had enough of speculations that led to nowhere.

RvP Looks like another “Too good to be true” rumours. Won’t happen. Better to just develop and focus on the youth policy, already have some brilliant talents coming through. With a little more belief, these guys will be regulars soon.

  510. Clint-Iamyourpapii says:

I’d rather have RVP than Lucas Moura who is PSG-bound.
    But both rumours are false.
I was pretty sure of the Baines-link, but it seems we have been priced out. Oh well ! Looks like another year of watching a shit left back.

Left back being the key word, he cannot defend ! The only way to counter his terrible performances is to strengthen the other wing back role and signing a solid Right Back that can shift to somewhere near the middle to allow Vidic+Rio to scooch over and cover the wandering Paddy.

Also Young has a great work rate but nobody can cover Evra’s complacency. We’ll need a guy in midfield to cover that left side and Fletch is still ill….what does that mean? MIDFIELD SIGNING.

    Impossible

I love Paddy’s character and believe he’s a great option on the left side but defending should always comes first and in that department he should be warming the bench.

  519. samuel - united WE stand says:

Zibbie – on this board, we all speak like we’re real madrid or barca. We speak like we can whistle and players will come running but these days, that’s not going to happen. Some reality being thrown at our faces. Sneijder, nasri, moura, van persie, moutinho e.t.c, all media made up signings, the A.B.Us are torturing united fans on purpose. They know we can’t sign these extensively assembled players but yet we get linked heavily to them.

Like you say, i honestly believe united outstanding prospects. Every world class player out there started from somewhere, they were given patience to develop and that’s what our youngsters need. Petrucci for example is already developing into a top class player, more exposure in the first team and we’ll see an outstanding player dominating the midfield. He has everything in his locker. Why he isn’t ahead of the likes of anderson is beyond me. There are many other young players too, if we blend them in with senior players, i bet you they’ll start to shine. They may not be ready for the overall responsibility yet but play them with experience, it’ll save united squandering money.

If we had known we weren’t getting beyond the group stage in the champions league we would have played Petrucci’s Pogba’s every single game. Who knows maybe Pogba would have prefered to stay with us ?
With all those inflated prices and us not getting into the mood to change the way we do things we MUST develop our yougsters and give them the chance. But how if they all want everything straighforward ? Cleverly and exception. But after his showing last season and his involvement in the Olympics who knows maybe we are going to wittness the same scenario as with certain Danny Wellbeck ?

Fergie has something to think about and think seriously. Vicious circle i am afraid.
And as for Andreson maybe use him in a different role ? Wonder whether he forgot his old self and his Porto days.

Just my 2 pennies of emotions.

You have to remember, Vida was labelled the best defender in the world before being injured and is heading into his prime year now. The likes of Kompany,Thiago Silva,Koscielny have grown in status in his absence but the King of Killers is back. In his return, he was solid, sharp as expected to be and played in Rio’s former role in defence – on the right side. He looks great on the ball and his return can elevate us back to greatness (trophy-wise).

Corea – pogba always had his head turned, was always going to leave to the new vieira at juventus (vieira was actually shit at the club). United don’t buy expensive players as often as the likes of real madrid or the two blue cunts, we develop players and elevate into the top class category. We have great youngsters, we better start making them a priority, we need to focus on them rather than place our thoughts on mythical signings.

i hear they’re too inexperienced but experience comes with playing more. We still don’t possess a midfield of total brilliance, why aren’t the youngsters getting games? they have the ability and temperament.

Cedars – there was an article today which says that folk in the US are coming up with a theory that lack of facebook/twitter activity implies higher chances of the person being a psychopath. Just because the Noway killer and the latest gunman in the US didn’t have one – talk of faulty correlation. Apparently they are advising recruiters to avoid such folk. Felt so angry (and they’d probably say “See? He’s got anger problems – I told you!”) – why the fuck do I HAVE to have one? If I feel like connecting I pick up the goddamn phone and talk, or else meet! The biggest danger is that some daft prick somewhere in India will say “ooo, this is what they are saying in the US, it must be true!” Fuck that.

    Jeet and Cedars,

enoug of the FB shit already

  575. Costas says:

    @Papii

It’s kind of ridiculous that our 2nd choice RB is a central defender and our 3rd choice RB is a winger. And I better not get started with Evra’s spot (because that’s what the LB berth is basically). Things are even worse there. Of course we have options. But desperation options more than anything . Jones is turning into O’Shea in terms of versatility and that doesn’t do his development as a centre back any favors. As for Valencia, he didn’t look comfortable there in some games and I’d really hate to see him sacrifice his attacking talents if he’s asked to play at right back in a must win game. I am not a betting guy, but I am willing to bet AV will play more times as a right back this year. Simply because he will have to fill in for our 3rd full back who has miraculously found himself keeping Joey Barton company for the next 12 months.

    @Fred

Ah, not too worried about that. As long as Vidic stays fit, we have good options for central defence. Even with Smalling out for 10 weeks, we still have Vidic, Rio, Jones and Smalling. My biggest worry about Carrick is a possible burn out at some point.

  576. Arjunited says:

Would be funny if Van Persie failed a medical at United. However with our medical staff, even Stephen Hawking could come through one unscathed. :D

  577. parryheid says:

I’ll never get the logic of weakening your team by playing a top notch winger as a defender. And for fucks sake don’t cite Evra as an example they don’t compare.

  578. CedarsDevil says:

    Arjunited

Ha ha…….I think with your comment on the medical team you will have a big fan on here in Costas!

  579. Clint-Iamyourpapii says:

Goal.com reckon Santi Cazorla will prove to be a better buy than Hazard and Kagawa.

At £12m, he’ll prove to a bargain and defo better than Hazard but no way against Kagawa. Cazorla is a great player in the spanish league and consistent performer but he’s not in the top bracket in his former league whereas Shinji Uganda is German Player of the Year.

On paper Shinji is the goals, killer pass and knife-edge United have been lacking since Ronaldo left, we’ve evolved since Ron to a more passing side, so again on paper Shinji is the man to drag us forward by supplying our vast attacking options (Valencia,Nani,Rooney,Chicha,Danny,Bebe,Young)

  580. Costas says:

I’ll welcome RVP with open arms. As last season proved, you can never have enough strikers. 8)

Bring back Michael Owen and we will have 7 of them again.

  581. Balaji Sivaraman says:

Jeet and Cedars, I completely agree mate. I think you have to use both the formats – Twitter and Facebook effectively, not be addicted to them. Sharing info, finding people, finding new avenues for business if you so chose, these tools are great for that.

But friend of a friend posted about his baby being born on Facebook and didn’t bother to inform those closest to him via phone, which is obviously the respectful thing to do. My friend then saw on Facebook and you can imagine his wrath. Similarly, my cousin took photos of himself in the US and instead of sending a mail to his parents (or talking on the phone with them), he posted it to Facebook. My aunt was saying that by the time they talked with him on his travel experiences, it was so lame because he had killed it on Facebook. From their tone, I immediately guessed that the lack of a personal touch was painful. (That is the main reason I made it a point to Skype with my parents on an almost daily basis while I was in Dubai. They deserve that from me.)

I use Twitter a lot. I love it. It lets me post news or just my thoughts in a few words. And I mainly use it stay in touch with my online friends. What I don’t use it is to talk with people I personally know. That is why I have a fucking phone number. And BTW, I am totally anti-Facebook, I only created a profile because my friends were pestering me to do it. It hasn’t seen action in an eternity.

BTW, Jeet, I completely agree on the “some daft Indian” part. I know many people like that who do things just because people in the West do it. Use your fucking brain and think whether you want to do it, you idiots. Alas, we are in the minority I feel, and that saddens me deeply.

Now that would have been far worse!! Latest on RvP is he is still in Germany however United are readying an improved bid. I really do wonder what Sir Alex was up to?

    Willie

Do you seriously want me to tell you what you can do with your twitter?

  588. Clint-Iamyourpapii says:

    Costas -

Its not as bad as you say in Right back….the main issue is we have one “specialised” Right Back in Rafael and the rest are centre backs. Plus none are even of Senior age + below 24 years. Rafael is seen as the young attacking full back, the natural successor the Nev who’s expected to play every game. Whereas Smalling is just the cover and Jones is played there to gain experience till he is of age. I think we’re fine at that zone because I’m one of those guys that believe Jones has to reach a certain age to be moved to Centre back….yes there is a danger of becoming O’Shea but he’s 20 years old, he has time on his side to become a centre back. This is the year I expect major progression from Rafa after last season’s complacency. Valencia will be fine, he’ll out Nani off that wing with ease tbh. My only worry is having to watch Smalling in that position for a whole year or Jones becoming a shit right back…permanently. Our only option Transfer wise would be to buy Mathieu Debuchy.

    :P

The left side is terrible, a guy in decline and a kid who’s never played 2 games consecutively. This is why I’m desperate for Baines. 27 year old in his “prime” ready to do a role for 3/4 years. Fabio will not be ready to be thrown into the fire for 40 games. Rafa has had the best start out of the 2 and even had a less injuries yet failed to hit 30 apps. So neither imo, are ready yet…Rafa is half way though because he has no competition realistically.

  589. 50 Shades of WillieRedNut says:

Cedars – Do you want me to tell you what you can do with your RvP? :P

  590. DreadedRed says:

Silva however didn’t snub us. Valencia got greedy after accepting our bid so we pulled out.  2 years later he was begging United and Chelsea to bid for him and even ridiculed City but Valencia had to sell him and City were the only club that wanted him.

  601. DreadedRed says:

ex Daily Mail, Brendan Rodgers compares Suarez to Beckham:

‘… top players get a bit of stick at every away ground,’ he said. ‘But if there is a negative reaction towards a player it is normally because they are good. We have seen it over time and players can become stronger for sure.

‘Looking at the David Beckham scenario a number of years ago, they were burning effigies of him. Now he is king of the world. That is how it can change.”

    Idiot.

  602. Arjunited says:

Twitter is the last place to be during the transfer window imo!

  603. Arjunited says:

What is Rodgers smoking to say those things?

  604. Costas says:

    @Papii

Ideally (a word that’s been thrown around a lot today, lol) Rafa will start having one of those Neville like seasons where he starts game in and game out and plays consistently well. I often try to separate his injury problems from those of his brother. Whereas Fabio seems to be injury prone, Rafael has had a couple of serious ones. But he generally lasts the 90 minutes with no problem. So I want to believe that he’s finally ready to enjoy his first injury free season at United. After all, he’s not a boy anymore. If he does, Jones, Smalling or Valencia won’t have to fill in a lot. However, it’s also imperative that he has more awareness about his position. Because Bilbao and Everton’s goals at OT proved that he’s still lacking in that department. I hope he learned from his mistakes.

  605. 50 Shades of WillieRedNut says:

Some of the drivel from gooners on Twitter is pathetic. Wishing all sorts of mischief on RvP if he signs for us. As someone pointed out though, they were happy to take Sol Campbell off Spurs. Hypocrites, or what? ;)

  606. TonyBee says:

DreadedRed….. but Beckham never called anyone a nigger or acted in anyway except in reaction to his kick out at that Argy cunt (who went down as if someone had shot him) and his guilty feelings about the team missing out….he learnt from it but the bugs bunny clone is still blaming everyone but himself.

  610. Wakey says:

    RE: Moura
Not convinced the deals dead yet tbh. PSG can’t sign him currently and the talk is that it’s unlikely they will sign him before January due to this as offloading a foreign player and getting this deal done may prove difficult in less than a month. And i’m sure given a choice he would choose United as It’s just a better league and a more prestigious club but if it’s PSG or nothing he is going to take it as who wouldn’t.

PSG don’t seem like they have bid yet, just enquired so the figures are speculation but it is going to cause a problem with both the Club and the Agents demands but if they have to wait 6 months it’s a lot of time for a deal to break down and them miss their payday so perhaps both parties might prefer a deflnate deal now than a potential one in 6months

  611. DreadedRed says:

TonyBee – exactly! There’s no comparing the two of them.

Suarez shows no remorse for his vile racist outbursts.

Beckham, for all his fame and fortune, has been a good role model. He has done much good, even if his publicists milk it, and he has been a good citizen of fair England. Top player is only a part of his repertoire.

He has said that he is excited and that negotiations are well under way. He has also said plenty of times that he is happy to stay at Sao Paulo so a deal that will allow him to stay in Brazil should appeal to him. The flip side is that with a club like PSV, they could well be chasing some new flavour of the month come January and Lucas and his agent will be back cap in hand! Glad we haven’t signed him, however, what bugs me is if Leonardo is so well in with all these brazilians, so much so that he’s hijacked our deal, why did he not hijack Chelseas deal for the far more impressive Oscar or Barca’s deal for Neymar??!!

  618. DreadedRed says:

TonyBee – then it is up to us.

  625. Snoop says:

Still don’t understand why sir Alex is not exploring centre midfield options and resolving the issue. Our big matches will be won or lost in midfield only. 635. kanchelskis says:

    Moura to PSG confirmed.

I don’t think this reflects in any way on us. It’s blatantly obvious he’s gone for the money, interfering agent or otherwise. This is the new reality of football.

All it means in terms of us is that we have a wage and transfer structure which doesn’t accommodate spending £30m and god knows how much in wages on a teenager who’s only ever played club football in Brazil. Don’t see that as a bad thing, myself.

Mate I for one am fucking ecstatic. He only wants Manchester United…. Until a fatter pay cheque comes along. Can’t blame the kid but these are EXACTLY the kind of players we DON’T want at our club. End up with another Tevez on our hands. Now can we please focus on bringing in a midfielder and a left back. Dembele and Baines would suit me down to the ground.

  638. edcunited1878 says:

At the end of the day, Moura had the talent to be a United player, but did not commit to the Manchester United Way. As Fergie says, you don’t need to worry about money if you’re good. You come to Manchester United to be part of the institution and keep forging the fabric of the club.

We’ll win with or without these players. We’ll do it our way, the hard way, the only way….the Manchester United way.

    We’ll do what we want.

The belgian is quality but not better than what united already have and don’t get me started on over-hyped baines, FERGIE has never shown interest. If united wanted him, they’d have signed him from wigan. No wonder why FERGIE keeps saying there’s no value. Overrated players with exorbitant transfer fees.

Moura, done and dusted. Glad that another mythical signing has evaporated, rory delap will be next.

  646. Costas says:

Mikey – FFP is a myth. PSG are proving it. Not sour graped from me either. I said at the outset, I didn’t get this Moura transfer. I think the lad will struggle to settle there. Javier Pastore has really struggled since he moved to PSG. Not sure what happened in the end. Fergie might give us a clue tonight, if asked about it…

I’ve been saying for at least a year if not more that these FPP rules that everyone sees as the saving grace of football are full of shit.

    Want proof

    1. – Platini’s idea who I have zero respect for.
    2. – How the fuck can PSG spend that much money on players over the last 18 months and break even or even make a £20 million loss?

  689. Devil310 says:

    0-0

Barca has most of the possesion, but have been able to string a couple of good passes together. Mainly by Scholes being the architect. Rooney is playing as a Striker with Wellbeck behind him…yeah, I know…odd.

Everyone has been doing their part, but Welbeck is just chasing shadows and cant find anyone and nobody could find him. I wouldn’t mind seeing him replaced by Kagawa or Berba.

  690. Atin says:

  692. Mikekelly12 says:

    Samuel
Because we need a strong squad. It’s not neccessarily about “is he better than…” even though I think he is! Would we have faired better if we’d had Dembele last year? Fucking right we would have. We can’t go into a new season thinking we’ll be injury free! Baines is a quality left back. Defends very well. Would we have faired better if we had Baines in our squad last season when Evra was having his nightmare games? Fucking right we would. That’s partly why I think they’d Improve United, or was our midfield and leftback area spot on??

  693. Always Be Closing says:

@Snoop – and which magical player would you like us to buy? The player you talk of (midfield enforcer a la Keane, Ince..) does not exist.

@Vivek – why is Baines a necessity? We have Evra, evergreen and rarely ever injured – we can pull Fabio out of loan if we have to (in the meantime, he’ll get practice over a QPR).

  699. Always Be Closing says:

@The team that wouldn’t die – you’re full of shit – we’re playing well, especially so considering how attacking the line-up is and that Scholes is playmaker cum defensive midfielder against Barcelona. Dispossessing them many times and creating chances.

  700. Redhot Concepts says:

  713. The team that wouldn't die says:

Glad we didn’t score. Would have been unfair. Can we please bring on Kagawa?
Chasing shadows. Guys must feel gutted. Hope they show up in the 2. half

  714. Corea says:

On Moura. Its not an easy thing for me to stay calm right now. Losing targets because of the “sensible” approach and losing youngsters on the way. Not a great sight to behold. Crisis days, so money talks indeed.

Looking forward to see the 2nd half. 1st missed.

  715. Sandeep1878 says:

when the fuck is Scott gonna come up with new thread?

its taking me ages to load..

  716. TonyBee says:

RSVP would have scored that fucker with his eyes closed….wouldn’t he Cedars……

  717. NotoriousRedDevil says:

Brilliant – Computer died before penalty now adverts. So Wazza missed. Good save/shit penalty? What?

  718. Redhot Concepts says:

Unbelievable miss! Wazza has been off color from e beginning. We really need someone to ease wazza’s burden! Midfield I think we are fine! Very thin upfront! Roll on RVP!

  719. Vivek says:

@Always Be Closing because Evra should no longer be a first choice at LB. He is to transition that role to Baines. He has been quite poor for the past two seasons atleast, defensively.

Fabio is not a solution rather a backup if both the first and second choices are out injured.

  720. parryheid says:

Go Ole wecould yet be seeing you in the sections.

  721. Dela says:

lol, wow. Not like Rooney to miss from the penalty spot especially when he gets a second chance. Oh well. Hopefully the second half is better than the first,

  722. TonyBee says:

The team that wouldn’t die says:
Glad we didn’t score. Would have been unfair.

are you having a fucking laugh….. we get one fucking chance to score against these bastards and you think it wouldn’t be fair……dear oh fucking dear……. the mind boggles…..

  723. 911_DEVIL says:

    Rooney you scouser
How come you miss a free kick a penalty
    Damn
    Nonetheless, well played guys

  724. TonyBee says:

Vivek ….BAINES WONT BE COMING…HE IS OVERPRICED AND JUST NOT GOOD ENOUGH….

  725. ThroatwobblerMangrove says:

I can’t wait to see Kagawa against this Barca midfield.

  726. The team that wouldn't die says:

Wasn’t a pen. Nani is an actor.
United must be doing something right as they are 0-0 with a winger at right back.
    Kagawa, please!

  727. TonyBee says:

Poor pen to the right of the keeper …NRD…..then tried to volley the rebound left footed and sliced it wide and high….

  728. 911_DEVIL says:

Fuck this barcelona under vilas novas looks shit

    Have we improved????
To the point of holding this suckers to half-time?
With anderson in the midle :D

  729. CedarsDevil says:

Did Nani cry when he fell over?

    Behave Cedars, behave

  730. Devil310 says:

    @The team that wouldn’t die

That was a foul anywhere on the pitch. Most of our attack has come from that side. Not sure why you’re complaining about. Both Nani and Valencia have been linking pretty well there.

  731. Vivek says:

    TonyBee,

I am not saying he will be coming, but I am saying we need someone there to assist Evra or take over from him.

Baines has got EPL experience and it will be useful instead of a foreign import or a promoting a reserve player into first team.

Going by the overpriced debate, we shouldn’t have got Young either.

And you need not shout to make a point:)

  732. Sandeep1878 says:

    NRD,

not much of a power in penalty, precision was also lacking, Valdes got a good hand on it..Rooney fires wide the rebound…

    ###

The team is playing bit better in the final third,

but i dont how the fuck is Busquetes is near our box very often,,

they are very deep in our half..

we are panicking a bit…passes are not that precise apart from Scholesy..

Barca pressing hard when off the ball..

we are giving away the ball cheaply..

    friendly is a friendly anyway..

    Hoping to see Kagawa..

  733. The team that wouldn't die says:

Scholes is better than Xavi today.
Pen was not bad, not great, but save better.
But it’s sad to have so little possesion.
    For me it’s easy: KAGAWA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  734. lordrt says:

0-0 at half time against barcelona, Moura’s gone to PSG and seems we are going now to tempt Ganso to join… not so bad after all ;)

  735. TonyBee says:

it was a pen …the ref said so …and Nani was caught….check the video….and anyway i couldn’t give a fuck about being fair or unfair…. we need to turn these cunts over any way we can…they would do EXACTLY the same if they were in our area so don’t go going holier than thou…. not fair …got to be to stupidest post i have ever heard….

  736. lordrt says:

Rooney needs to practise those penalties, most of the time he’s the one who’s sent to take them

  737. Balaji Sivaraman says:

NRD, I’d verge more on the latter. It was a pretty easy save once the goalkeeper had guessed the right way. Not a lot of power or height and not put wide enough. It was more painful to see the follow-up miss, but to be fair to Wayne, the ball had an unfortunate bounce and it was to his left as well.

Anyways, what a game of football it has been. Does it look like a friendly? Hell no! I think both teams want this. It could very well be a Champions League group game. The rustiness is there in both sides but they’re really giving it a go and there’s nothing “friendly” about it. Barcelona are dominating possession as always but I have a feeling that we might get the first goal. Our attacks have been more incisive and I personally feel we’ve had more clear-cut opportunities.

Also, I love the look of the football we’re playing. It is really fast and incisive. Simply, I feel that it is “United”. And I love that. It has got me excited even without Kagawa in the team. And I expect it to improve tremendously once we get into the groove of the season and these quality players start linking up with each other.

On the bad side, Anderson still isn’t doing it for me. It makes me sad to say this since I have been one of the few people wanting him to make it. But these kinds of games just proves that he either lacks the work ethic or maybe worse isn’t going to make it. And if it doesn’t help to play alongside Scholes, then I am afraid you might not work with anyone.

Also, I tip my hats-off to people like Costas, Jeet, Denton etc. I’ve shared their opinion for sometime but in games like this, it is quite obvious. We need a Darren Fletcher replacement or clone ASAP. We’re doing awesome stuff with the ball going forward, but we don’t have enough of the ball. We need someone who’s going to win the ball off of a team like Barcelona and feed it to our players.

Either Sir Alex is really confident of his youth (a la Tunnicliffe and Jones) or he has an ace up his sleeve (doesn’t he always?) in terms of our formation and how he wants us to play.

  738. Clint-Iamyourpapii says:

anyone talking about Lucas moura needs to keep quiet …FFS Im trying to find a way of blaming Evans and Carrick for this shambles against Barcelona !

Anderson and Young will do….if they score….fuck it Evra and Welbeck are to blame.

You can never be too short of scapegoats.

    :P

Zibbie Fuck Rooney…bloody mercenary cunt

  739. NotoriousRedDevil says:

    Cheers Tony Bee

Cedars – he was crying but they were tears of joy, I’m sure they turned into tears of sorrow when Wazza missed.

Pre-season all that matters is fitness and no injuries. Game on 2nd half then

  740. The team that wouldn't die says:

MUTV “He’s (Kagawa) got to fight for his place”.
NO, not when we play like this. He’s easily our best player.

  741. TonyBee says:

we don’t need a left-back with EPL experience …we need Paddy to get his fucking act together …he has FAR more experience than Baines

  742. Devil310 says:

“Scholes is better than Xavi today”

    – Yes, but it doesn’t help Xabi’s chances when he is on the fucking bench, don’t it?

I swear to god, the things I hear on this blog sometimes are mind boggling

  751. NotoriousRedDevil says:

I know it’s only a friendly so it doesn’t matter here but when the season starts don’t want to see Carrick playing CB.

  752. Always Be Closing says:

@Vivek – why would you need to transition to Baines, I thought he had EPL experience?

Regardless, he is not better than Evra (who has been one of our most consistent players).

  753. Costas says:

That Balaji knows his football. ;)

  754. NotoriousRedDevil says:

Rather see Brady given a go then spunk anything more than £8 million on Baines. We want to see youth, that’s the perfect opportunity.

  755. Vivek says:

@Always be Closing, Transition not in the literal sense. More of a settling down into a new team. Evra has been consistent in playing at LB but not at performing in that area. Lack of competition in the team is what is making him hold to the LB position.

  780. lebomanc says:

i give up! still cant find a proper link… think its a bit too late

  781. NotoriousRedDevil says:

@mikekelly – I’m not do sure a lot of young players thrive when thrown in the deep end like that. Evans can double up as a left back.

It’s just the money being touted for Baines is crazy money and better off being spent elsewhere on the team. Like another midfielder. Just my opinion – if we are going to spend that sort of money on a full back he needs to be versatile which Baines is not.

If that signing does happen wont be until after we play Everton. They don’t need to sell now Cahill and Yobo have left

  782. TonyBee says:

mezza ….you wanna fuck me….i can stand the pain if you can stand the shit….

  787. Andooo says:

So happy we didn’t sign the greedy kid. If hes that good why is the very overrated Hulk keeping him out in the olympics. Alot of Sao Paolo fans are still undecided about him, was a huge gamble that we didnt need to take when we have Nani and Valencia. Now sign me a proper midfielder Fergie and stop fucking about with positions we are strong in. Sahin would be perfect and he’s very much available.

Platini has questions to answer as his FFP is been pissed on in public and he seems to be doing nothing. More reasons to hate the French! Useful cunts.

But if we dont have back up thats exactly what could happen. I’m not sure how much he’d cost to be fair and we wont pay over the odds for anyone, just think we need cover. All well and good saying Evans can fill in but what happens when Evans is filling in for Rio/Vida or injured himself etc. Just my opinion, think a good squad has quality cover across the park.

At 35m and 250k/week euros, the amount he is getting is obscene. PSG will be the next to go bust, mark my words

I guess this will be on fire with the debate of who took the bad penalty amongst Nani and young

I gotta say that the new white kit looks sexy as well.

Also, Nick Powell, just by virtue of being there, looks to me to be a much better prospect than Anderson at this point. Maybe that has a lot to do with my current perceptions of both players, but I’d give Powell a lot more games than Anderson right now. BTW, I gotta say this, but that Powell kid is quite the looker, isn’t he?

All in all, a decent game of football and definitely a nice workout for the lads. Should improve their fitness in time for the season.

How great is it to have Rio and Vida back in defense? Obviously, I don’t expect the pairing to start in every game of the season (owing to Rio), but just for the important games, having them at the back is going to improve my confidence tenfold. I think Smalling and Evans are absolutely awesome, but there’s nothing better than the sight of Rio and Vida at defense and Carrick in front of them. It automatically makes us look much better going backward.

We missed all 3 penalties, and didn’t even take the fourth.
    Rooney, Nani and Young.

Marq- They have Qartar Holdings behind them .

  813. Devil310 says:

Ok….that was embarrassing. 3 penalties missed in a game is fucking embarrassing. Don’t care if this is a friendly. We got to do better.

  814. DreadedRed says:

Evra was very good defensively, and Valencia was pretty good too.

We miss 3 – THREE pens! How is that possible?
Posession more even when Messi off.
They have some sort of psychological hold on us

thanks everyone for the updates but wow, that embarassing!
and why do we keep wearing our away kits when we play barca?? why wont they wear their away ones. and we loose everytime we wear them

  817. Eric keane says:

Ii thought anderson was pretty decent today

  818. AlphaRS says:

Anyone see anything to make them think United have closed the gap on Barcelona?

  819. YS says:

did anyone notice , our new no 7 has learned some new tricks

overall lovely to see united play

swap Anderson for Cleverley in the second half line up and I am more than happy to them play against most teams

  820. NotoriousRedDevil says:

@ Mahesh – Read my post first its pretty clear but I’ll explain it to you. The figures being touted for Baines range from £7 million – £20 million depending on the publication. If we’re spending anything north of £10 million he’s got to be able to play more than left back for me. The reason I say that because IMO he isn’t even that good in his position, he’s alright but not great, An on form Evra is twice the player Baines is. The other reason we need versatile players is because of the customary injury crisis we seem to go through every season. For example, It will be no good if we have no CB’s and 2 LB’s who can’t play anywhere else will it?

@mikekelly – Agree with you in terms of cover of the squad but we’ve been overrun in midfield for 3 years now and yet we don’t sort that out. Kagawa is a step in the right direction but at the moment we’ve only got one midfielder who can do defensive work in Carrick. That is far more important than sorting left back for me. If Baines was world class or even the level below that than fair enough but for me he isn’t, he’s an average player at best.
