again alike Scholesy irreplaceable! A complete legend who has peformed at the highest for his entire career. I just hope we dont have the Schmeichal replacement debacle now!

  2. Gorse Hill Red says:

It’s so annoying the likes of Van der Sar and Scholesy deserved to end their career with lifting the European Cup.

  3. Costas says:

    Already missing you big Ed!

  4. slim says:

damn today feels like it could be a stinker, Damn!!

  5. Giles Oakley says:

To lose one great player, Gary Neville, makes me sad, to lose two, Edwin Van der Sar, leaves me heartbroken, but to lose three all in one season, Paul Scholes, leaves me inconsolable. We’ll be lucky to the likes of even one of them again. It shows the scale of the re-building needed at Old Trafford. Who else but Sir Alex could have wrung a league title out of such an unpromising situation?

  6. Mahesh says:

Am I the only one who’s momentarily knocked back by the fact that he had been with us for 6 seasons. It seems like only yesterday that he signed up for us for what I thought would a stint for a couple of seasons at the ripe ol’ age of 34!

  7. Imogen says:

haha, he used to wear 19

  8. Saad says:

Somebody remind why after Juventus we failed to sign VDS and he then ended up going to @#$%@#$^$%^& Fulham???

  9. rat1p says:

three great players retired this season very sad story

  10. Saad says:

…and then stayed there for FOUR full seasons????

    How???

  11. berbatov9 says:

    i miss him already
    best goalkeeper ever…

  12. willierednut says:

Sadly, every good thing has to come to the end. I keep hearing Karen Carpenters song, we’ve only just begun….. Time for Fergie to write another chapter in this ongoing success story. Big summer coming up for United. Cheers Edwin.

  13. Costas says:

    Legend:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xY_AGlAqcm0

Rio’s gesture in that video is a sign of how much they’ll miss him.

  14. carBANGrick says:

Hargreaves gone scholes retired, carsick Fletcher anderson not in the same bracket as Xavi Iniestia… Not to mention the new midfielder may need some time to adapt, oh and they may not be value in the market hmmmm

  15. CedarsDevil says:

    Costas

    Great video mate, thanks

I second every sentiment in the post of Sir Giles, not much to add really……

  16. CedarsDevil says:

    carBANGrick

I agree, we are finished as a football club, the future is all doom and gloom…. God help us all

  17. Chicharitoooo says:

First Red Nev, then VDS, now Scholesy. If Giggsy were to retire this season as well, I would be so devastated. To the 20 …

  18. slim says:

    @carBANGrick

i fail to see your point

  19. bigred85 says:

    LEGEND SAME AS SCHOLESY

  20. bigred85 says:

carbangrick, yeah we,re finished we,re fucked, sack fergie get queen kenny in sell rooney vidic etc and buy heskey and carragher, who the fuck are man united.
    WE,LL NEVER DIE

  21. CedarsDevil says:

    slim

What is there to see mate? Its fickle fans like this that bring laughter to my face…. Completely ignorant of what United are all about

  22. Zelh says:

    Big Ed and Scholes leaving.
Fuckin hell I feel way more shit than after the final :(

  23. mikekelly12 says:

I think he’s trying to say United are going to win nothing again this year and will be hovering above relegation and that City will win the Treble!! He probably said the same last year, and was probably the first to celebrate when we beat Chelsea and went on to tell everyone how great a team we are!! Like you say CedarsD completely ignorant of what United are all about.

  24. Balaji Sivaraman says:

@Giles, And yet some dumbfucks question Sir Alex’s tactical acumen after one loss to one of the greatest football teams assembled. Are they fucking serious?

Like you, I am on the verge of tears that we will never see their likes again. I have grown up with them like Costas and it will pain our generation the most. You lot have seen much greater things than us. You have felt the pain in losing the holy trinity, being relegated, fighting back up to the first division etc.

For our generation, all we’ve known is the class of 92 and all we’ve known for the most part is success. And now that they’re slowly calling it a day, we realize the pain you must’ve felt when Sir Bobby, George Best and Denis Law called it a day. We may even feel the pain of continuous failue that you felt during the 70s and 80s. Who knows? Ultimately, the United spirit will lead us forward.

I know that I will be crying like a baby the day Sir Alex calls it a day. But I thank God for now because that day is still a few years away. I know that he will assemble another great team and lead us to more glory. The sun still shines brightly at Old Trafford with Sir Alex at the helm.

  25. Costas says:

    @slim

There wasn’t any point. Just another chance to have a go at Carrick. It’s been a recurring theme with this guy or weeks now.

  26. carBANGrick says:

no no pls don’t be mistaken, on the contrary i predict us to win the 20th title, just that we will be in the fourth finals in 5 years, or fifth finals in 6 years, the perennial runner-up that underachieve with all the if only and could have and only touch the holy grail once.

  27. Zelh says:

I always knew this moment would come but first red nev then edwin and now scholes.
    still devastating

  28. Costas says:

    *for*

  29. sachu says:

    @cedars
    mate calm down
i know its hard for u wen yoy see comments like that
i love paul scholes but we have to move forward
i just hope we play anderson week in and week out
he is 23 has the talent this is his time hopefully has a good pre season and and full injury free season
as much as i love ryan giggs the time has come wen fergie has to play ando in the big games in fact all games instaed of ryan

off topic bbc radio says young has chosen liverpool

  30. CedarsDevil says:

    carBANGrick

    ‘the perennial runner-up that underachieve’

Are you serious? You must be a Villa fan

  31. CedarsDevil says:

    sachu

Trust me I am as calm as a palm tree :-)

  32. MG says:

    Manchester United Mark 6

    The Barcelona Protocol

P.s. Is this SAF 6th team? If not correct the Mark please

  33. MG says:

Not even the CL final can dinish the respect I hold for Edwin Van Der Sar

It was about the 19 – the CL would have been the cherry on top but it wasn’t to be – for now

    United will rise someday again.

For now MG bows to the brilliance of Scholsey and the honour of Van Der Sar

Thank you – come back and teach these kids and make them better so that they can come out of your shadows and become great players for Manchester United

And maybe they will rip Barca apart one day.

    19

  34. MG says:

    diminish not dinish

  35. CedarsDevil says:

MG – How are you my fellow red?

In 1968 United were massive underdogs against Benfica yet we murdered them. Worry not my friend, the day will come and we will get our footballing revenge….

Lets not forget this is ‘the worst United team’ to have ever won the league! And besides that Sir Alex is a moron

  36. sachu says:

    summer transfers
    vds replaced by de gea
scholes replaced by only fergie knows
giggs replaced by only fergie knows
neville replaced by da silva twins
at the moment our midfield is anderson carrick fletcher gibson and cleverley
i think the manager will get rodwell and de gea

  37. slim says:

    @CedarsDevil , Costas

Alas no point was made eh!

and then we’re now perennial underachievers. you’re beyond me carbangrick

Someone said earlier that its as if someone had died, feeling really down with this news to be honest. And here i was a mere 12-15 hours ago saying that changes have to be made and SAF has some hard decisions to take and this happens. I guess we all suspected but the effect is totally unexpected, couldn’t have imagined this feeling in a million years. Good luck ginger prince. At least he gets to work on our youngsters, we’ll see his legacy through those kids

  38. aimanunited says:

red nev and scholesy retirement means that united golden generation of 92′ almost come to end with giggsy only left and sadly our current key players are not originally produced by united’s academy.
Fletch, JOS, Gibbo, Evans are good team players but not as great.
I hope Tunni, Pogba, Morrison, Cleverley and Welbeck can carry on the legacy but it will took some time before they can become first team regular, dominate EPL and then the biggest event, champions league.
The likes of Simpson, Richardson, Eagles, Cathcart etc was dubbed the next big thing but everybody knows where they are now.
I’m sorry if you don’t like the comparison with Barca but their current team are made of many academy players like Pedro, biscuits, xavi, iniesta, messi, pique, valdes etc which is I think is one of the factor for their success. They are very close and have a great understanding with each other. Don’t get me wrong, I know united players also have a great chemistry but just want to make my point about growing up playing football together.
But I always believe that Sir Alex will come out with something and next season’s team will be ready to challenge the world’s best teams – again.
Finally, just want to say thank you Paul Scholes for your loyal service to Manchester United, you’re one of the best midfielder we ever had.

  39. manutdisadream says:

This season we have won the number 19. Record breaking. Top of the perch. We have lost GNev, The Ginger Prince and VDS. My word it’s a brutal world!

  40. ahmad yunus says:

Wishing him the best of luck

  41. Dee says:

Ronaldo and Tevez left, and Fergie still picked us up and look where we are now? 19!
And as for the 3 legends, nothing but respect and lumps in our throats, we will miss them and may they continue to be Red inside and out.

  42. MG says:

    Cedars

    Afternoon!

Who is this Ferguson you keep on talking about?

  43. Colbert says:

A great keeper and a great man. Is he going to be offered a role within the club as well? Would be a shame to let all that experience and knowledge slip away.

  44. dannysoya says:

WE LOVE YOU EDWIN!!!! WE REALLY DO!!!!

  45. scan74 says:

    all the best VDS

fantastic keeper thanks for that save in moscow 08

top man all the best for his future

  46. Passmaster16 says:

Thanx VDS u’ll stay in our hearts.
    4ever red..

  47. Yorke, Cole, Sheri, Solks says:

Thanks Van Der Sar – True Legend! Love the pictures
Favourites are 1) where Rafael or Fabio (I can’t tell!) and Hernandez look up to him 2) Fletcher and everyone grabbing VDS from back celebrating the penalty save in Champs Lg final 08. 3) VDS, Evra carrying Park.

From top to bottom – it shows why Man Utd is such a great club. You fall in love with the game, the Manager and the players, the fans, i.e. the United family. I think the phrase’ more than a club’ suits United better than Barcelona. Well, to me definitely anyways.

  48. Ash says:

    LEGEND.
Thank you VDS for evrything you have done for our great club.I still remember the day when he saved anelkas penalty which helped us win our champions league.
