PICTURE: Embarrassed Wayne Rooney With Awards

rooney awards

Wayne Rooney became the first player to score 20 Premiership goals by January and has already outscored Cristiano Ronaldo for his total for last season.

He was named January’s Player of the Month but was also presented with a special award for his achievement.

Not one for being centre of attention, Rooney looked fairly embarrassed to be presented with the awards, whilst his team mates had a laugh in the background.

    Lad deserves it!! hope he keeps up his form and scoring record till the end of season and we get that 4 in a row record

  2. Costas says:

    Keep going Wazza.

    Vidic is alive!

  3. Gotta hate tiny tears says:

    How many goals has Ronaldo got this season, not for comparisons just for wonderment

  4. Costas says:

    @GHTT

    Hi. He has 15 goals in 16 games in all competitions I think.

    Needless to say that Rooney reached 20 Pr.League goals faster than any other United striker. Including Ruud. That’s something.

  5. Chep says:

    its always good to see the lads have a laugh. good team spirit is very important I think

  6. gautam says:

    i say chaps has anyone heard of Ronaldo?C.Ronaldo.anybody?anybody?

  7. prakrules says:

    @GHTT

    Ronaldo has missed a bucket loads of games due to injuries and suspension. Add a few games to get into groove after the injury.

    My point is, there is no need for comparisons between the two. Both are world class players of a different kind. Ronaldo will single handedly win you games scoring outrageous goals. Rooney is more of the team player.

  8. prakrules says:

    Agree with Costas here. Definitely his best season so far.

  9. raj k says:

    the bottom left picture is my wallpaper now. every one of them is smiling. looks like gary is taking the piss.

  10. Costas says:

    @prakrules

    I added Ronaldo’s games because he really hasn’t played a lot of football compared to Rooney. I think Rooney has played in 28 or 29 games this season. But we also can’t compare them for the reason that they play in different leagues now.

    It’s just great to see Wayne finally become the centerpiece at United considering how many times he sacrificed his goalscoring in the past to help out elsewhere.

    And one last thing about Wayne. He could have scored more than 23 goals in total if he had started more than 2 games in the Ch.League. No complaints about that though. We topped the group without his goals.

    just the warm up for the Ballon D Or and FIFA Player of the year awards that he will get next year. Surprised about 2 things

    1. Wayne hasnt scored a single goal from outside the box this season
    2. Has scored quite a few headed goals which is very rare for him

    Got to admit that i would love to see him bang a few from outside the box like he used to 2-3 years back

  13. aig alex is god says:

    ghtt

    Ronaldo has scored 15 goals in 16 games for Real and remember, he is a winger. Has been injured and got a few red cards too.

  14. willierednut says:

    @AIG
    SSN had the area’s were rooney has scored all his goals from, you wud be suprised to know that he has only scored 9 goals from outside the box for us and everton.

  15. wayne says:

    last year he showed his true commitment to the club by playing out of position alot without complaining, this year what a true world class player he his, gotta love the guy i read were is hatred for liverpool is a driving force to eclipse all thier records thought that was funny

  16. mancstan says:

    Good to see the big grin on Nanis face.

    As for world player of the year, Kaka seems to be favourite for that every year, for some reason.

  17. aig alex is god says:

    @willierednut

    was mentioned in Martin Tyler’s column,wasnt it?. i was certainly surprised by that. He certainly can shoot from distance, should try that more and possibly work on it.

  18. trevor says:

    @aig alex is god

    Rooneys Style of Play has changed this year also, Credit to Capello & Fergie & ROoney Himself.

    Before he was always reliant on someone else scoring the goals, His job was to Leave the Striker & Track back. He wouldnt burst into the box as often & look to collect balls from the Midfield & get involved in general attacking play.

    Now that he has adapted and now playing as a traditional Striker, he is bursting into the box more & not as interested in the approach play. When he receives the ball all he is interested in now is to lay it off and get his butt in the box!. Tracking back? Thats not my job i will leave that for my mates in addition he also is taking up better positions in the box.

    Rooney now is fulfilling everyones expectations & turning into the player we all expected and got excited over as a teen! I think rooney could play any outfield position on the pitch and Still get a 6+ rating!

  19. gravedigga says:

    his smile says proud, happy and embarrassed…
    ROONEY!!!ROONEY!!!ROONEY!!!

  20. Costas says:

    Over the last year, I have seen two differences to Wayne’s play: As Trevor said, he is getting into goalscoring positions and his shooting outside the box has become worse. He doesn’t try volleys anymore. Just curlers. He is turning into a main striker now. Like Owen, Shearer or Ruud.

    I liked that his goal against Portsmouth was similar to the one against City. Shows that he is starting to sense where and when the ball will go and where he needs to be.

    Matty james away to preston on loan.

  22. trevor says:

    @Costas,

    I agree, Although i get a little frustrated with the Curlers. id love him to drive more shots low in the corner.

  23. schmadmir says:

    As you’ve all mentioned he is turning into a better striker now. He has always been a very good player, even between the sticks!

    But now he is making smart runs, pulling the trigger earlier, heading in crosses and generally doing his business inside the box. We have more than enough players who can do the job outside the box, so it’s good to see him so far up the pitch.

    Congrats!

  24. aig alex is god says:

    @Trevor

    Spot on. He has been told to stop running all over the park and stay around the half way line or the box. Also his positioning sense has improved as some of the goals he has scored of late suggest.It comes with experience and more playing time and Wayne is benefitting from it now.

  25. THE GLAZERS SHOULD HEAR WHAT I HAVE says:

    why don’t we fans organise massive boycotts of our all home matches except for the champions league games,crucial league games and of course and our date with the dipers, that would surely give the Glazers something to think about.

  26. READ CAREFULLY WHAT I says:

    Er…. I would like to dedicate these awards to Carlos Tevez, without whom all of this has been made possible.

  27. trevor says:

    Lads,

    I wonder how much help has training with Michael Owen helped rooney. If we watch Owen now, His runs and positional Play is very very clever!

    I thin fergie has pulled Rooney aside and said, look i want you to learn from Michael. Watch his runs, Positons he takes up in the box at Corners & Free Kicks. Thats what you need to be doing which i think he is!

    Maybe a fergie masterstroke???

  28. Paul Parker says:

    @willierednut

    I agree 100%, right now Rooney is way better than Drobga, and for me he has the edge because the lad is only 24 and has his whole career ahead of him to get even sharper and more ruthless infront of goal. Him and Drogba are both in excellent form this season. If we’re talking performances, they’ve both scored 17 goals in open play (Rooney has 4 Pens, Lampard takes the Pens for the rentboys) So they’ve both been equally prolific in front of goal, you also have to add the fact Drog was out for 5 games at the Africa Cup. THATS NOT to take anything away from Rooney, not at all, its to highlight just how well he’s improved for us as a striker this season, playing further up the pitch. Drogba has carried Chelsea since he joined, he’s their star player more than Lampard or Terry. He’s been their Ronaldo, and when he’s in form Chelsea win no matter how badly they play. Look at Arsenal yesterday, Chelsea were played off the park and were dominated in midfield but they still won easily. He was the reason they could sit back and play counter-attacking football, Anelka never looked like scoring, and Malouda is shit. Drogba’s goal against Burnley on his return from AC shows he carries those cunts, they’re so shit they would’ve lost if he wasn’t on the pitch. HE IS CHELSEA, and without him they’re fighting for fourth. So in light of his form this season Rooney scoring 21 goals already is amazing, he’s keeping us in the title race more then anybody because if he wasn’t scoring like he is Drogba would’ve carried Chelsea past us along time ago all by himself.
    Rooney is the best Striker in the League right now hands down, and the best part is he will only get better and better, long after Drogba starts drawing his Chelsea Pension Rooney will still be scoring for United. Im backing him to reach 30 this season in the PL and finish top striker (even excluding penalties) He’s stepped up to the plate and he’s done us proud. If we retain our title by winning all our remaining games it will all be down to Wayne Rooney, he’s carried us imo, lets see him reach 30 !!!!

  29. trevor says:

    As much as i hate him Drogba is sensational. Yesterday his goals were immence, So strong and difficult to handle!

    At the moment i think there isnt any differences in performaces between Drogba and ROoney they are on a par!

    The remainder of strikers in the league are way behind apart from Torres but the fact he doesnt stay fit i have excluded him! hahahaa

  30. aig alex is god says:

    As much as i hate drogba he really has been top drawer this season.possibly spurred on by what happened against barca last season.we will obviously choose rooney but a neutral will find it very difficult to choose between them.22 goals in 26 games for drogba and 23 in 30 for rooney.not much to choose.rooney has 4 penalties as well in that tally

  31. 20legend99 says:

    Cristiano who? Never heard of him.

    For such a monstrous player Drogba spends more time on the ground than he has rights to. It’s ridiculous, Drogba shouldn’t even feel when the Arsenal players were bouncing off him.

  32. willierednut says:

    Wayne rooney doesn’t roll on the ground pretending he’s dead, big girls blouse – drogba.

  33. Gotta hate tiny tears says:

    Off topic but I just got an email off YouTube saying one of emilys anti glazer videos has been takin down Due to a complant fromanchester united due to breach of terms and conditions

  34. anomalous red says:

    love this picture …

    Drogba is brilliant but Wazza brings a bit more to the team. They’re different players and I’d like to have them both but i’m happy with what we have..

    Drogba seems to need a particular type of formation to flourish at chelsea..4-3-3 ..wazza can play anywhere so i think rooney has his nose ahead for now.

  35. willierednut says:

    shocking
    lets hope John Terry doesnt get a peek of my daughter
    thou id fucking love him to click on and see Emily imstead of been on facebook poking other peoples misseseseseses

  41. curtis says:

    Drogba takes free kicks for chelsea should we not count those goals then?

    yes rooney takes penalties but he’s still gotta put them away.

    and besides in my opinion Drogba is benefiting from the fact that he’s top dog much like ronaldo was.
    not saying rooney isn’t top dog for us but if you watch them play its obvious to see rooney still spends a lot of time trying to create for team mates.
    at chelsea its almost like playing under 10′s where the coach will identify the star and tell everyone to pass it to him as soon as you can.
    but no denying the DOG is class and if i’m being honest a patnership between him and roon would be outta this world

  42. Xusen says:

    I love these posts with photos but an you not make them bigger?..i click on the thumbnail expecting to see a higher resolution version but it is the same tiny one..you can hardly make out the players!

  43. trevor says:

    @willierednut

    Rooney Doesnt roll about like Drogba but i find it really difficult to slag drogba about it after we watched Ronaldo for years doing exactly the same thing.

    Nani is also prone to flopping like a bag of spuds from time to time. Every team has them and unfortunitaly some foreign players have this Tripping Over Grass Syndrome & Act like you have been shot Syndrome that we cant get rid of!

    I think Soccer AM should add another part to their program, Maybe the Biggest Jessie, Or biggest pussy!….. Show clips of Players barley getting touched and flopping on the ground…. Clips of players geting tapped on the shoulder and holding their face!

    Name and shame them!… Thats what i say!

  44. Its in my blood says:

    Mate, there is huge publicity to be derived from this ridiculous action. Get in touch with MUST or whoever, make them pay for this!
    Keep us informed please.

  45. Costas says:

    @GHTT

    Sorry to hear that. Youtube seems to be taking videos down for fun these days, but this is ludicrous.

  46. LET ME FEEL THE LOVE AGAIN says:

    WHILST ON HOLIDAY IN FRANCE BEFORE THE START OF THE SEASON AFTER A BEER AND WINE FUELLED NIGHT THE BOYS WERE LEFT STANDING SO WE GOT A PICE OF PAPER OUT AND WE PREDICTED EUROPEAN PREMIERSHIP FA CUP AND ETAL HOPE AND PLAYERS PLAYER FOR THE SEASON I SAID ROONEY BECAUSE HE HAS LIVED IN THE SHADOWS AND I KNEW HE WOULD COME TO THE FORE THATS WHAT THAT VASTLY OVERUSED TERM”WORLD CLASS” GETS USED HIS ENTHUSIASM IS UN BOUNDED AND TALENT TO BOOT

  47. ethiored says:

    Rooney has benefited from playing as a center forward this season in terms of boosting his goal scoring. But to be honest I would much rather see him in the tre quartista role behind the striker like he used to do when RVN was with us. But we have a number 9 who can not play that role so he has to be the main striker.

  48. united.george says:

    the dive by gerrard against everton was classic….even the commentator said it was a clear dive…

    AC Milan is not looking too good in their last 3 games…good time for them to get into a slump.

  49. King Eric says:

    FUCK Drogba the horrible cunt. Great player when on form but I fucking despise the bastard. Bottles it against United everytime.

  50. ethiored says:

    @costas, how are you doing mate
    I enjoy your comments as much as Scot’s blogs. keep it up

  51. King Eric says:

    gotta hate – Disgraceful mate. Was watching a re run on MUTV last night of the Pompey game and I am CONVINCED that they had dubbed over the top of the “Love United, Hate Glazer” chants in the second half.

  52. King Eric says:

    @ethiored

    Doing good. Thanks for asking. And for the compliment.

  55. kel says:

    Kind of funny lol. Well done.

  56. READ CAREFULLY WHAT I says:

    If anyone is serious about having a real effect on the Glazer`s then you have to take direct action.

    The Glazers are only in it for the money.
    Stop putting money in.

    Dont buy merchandise.
    Dont subscribe to MUTV.
    Dont click on the official website ( ad revenue)
    Dont buy tickets for the game.

    @GHTT – I know you are excited about taking Emily to Old Trafford but will you be putting money into the Glazers hands ? Buy her a drink? A programme as a souvenir? Something from the Mega Store?
    The tickets ?

    It all supports the Glazers.

    Unfortunately, there would be some suffering involved and some actual sacrifice rather than just platitudes to get rid of the Glazers.

    Green and Gold scarves just tell the Glazers you dont want them
    They didnt care last time we just told them.
    We have to prove we also mean business.

  57. aig alex is god says:

    Ghtt

    you are not the only one.one of my friend had an anti-glazer song sung at a screening blocked.

  58. trevor says:

    Lets Hurt the Glazers????

    Im a little worried they could hurt us more then we could ever hurt them!

    let me see, 1or 2 years down the line of the Glazer Campaign could result in……….

    Erm

    Could they?……

    Sell Rooney for 80 Million

    Sell the Naming Rights of the ground for 100 Milion

    Sell Old Trafford for 300 Million?

    Sell Vidic for 20 Mill

    Sell Evra for 30 Million

    Then put the club up for sale for what their debt is, say 800 mil

    Let me see 800 + 80 + 100 + 300 + 20 + 30 = £1330 Mil

    They could piss off to America with a handsome bank ballance and there would be fuck all we could do about it!

  62. Corea says:

    Gotta hate tiny tears – i was critical of Ronaldo over the last few years. i didn’t exactly like his antics but i would welcome him back home with open arms.
    Just in anticipation of the King Eric’s post we are managing pretty well without him and it is good to see.

    Ando will fight for his place. Fight Ando, Fight! Still feel he can be some player and don’t want him to go. I like his character but he does have to improve.

  65. aig alex is god says:

    @Corea

    i miss him too. :-( .

    However we are adapting better and getting used to life without him now.We did miss him before the new year but we are fine without him now. We have another portugese on fire now.

  66. Corea says:

    aig alex is god – my best post today is under moderation so i will continue to be a little bit soft and say i absolutely love how Ronaldo plays for Real Madrid. What a star.

  67. rooney the new king says:

    well I am back. I could not be assed to comment much yesterday LOL.

    my two cents on the chelsea game is how awful the game was and overated both chelsea and arsenal are and I am imbarrassed what the pundits and the media have seen in arsenal and still do with chelsea. I looked at chelsea on how they had no idea how to control the game all they did was lunge and jump into arsenal players, they kicked their way to victory and played some of the most dirty football I have seen in a while, the chelsea players were basically climbing on arsenals smurfs. All they did was play physical football that was their game their first goal summed up the style of play, they played to a typical set piece goal no quality football.

    - I was looking through on some of the united pompey match reports, they could not wait to have a little pop at united sayong even though many know this is not a great united side ever, and it made me wonder if arsenal were in the position and the form united are currently in I wonder what peoole the pundits and the media would say about arsenal how the kids have finally grown up and how they are realising their potiental double standards me thinks.

    on the glazers are we suprised how they are trying to silence the angry united fans when in reality they cant we want them out its that simple

  68. aig alex is god says:

    rtnk

    repeat what i said yesterday. No one cares about the brand of football. The results are all that matter. United were poor last season but won the league, Chelsea were poor under Mourinho but won 2 league titles. All that matters is winning and racking up the points. Anyways Chelsea are never side that have been known for playing ‘beautiful football’

  69. rooney the new king says:

    aig alex is god – off course the style counts thats what has made united the club they are today is attacking football. yes united were poor at times but they still had their moments

  70. aig alex is god says:

    rtnk

    i mean for us the style counts and that is the reason we support united but now a days its all about winning. The style dosent matter much. Barcelona,United and Arsenal are the only clubs who play beautiful football. Real,the Italian Clubs and Chelsea are poor but their brand of football is effective and they get the job done

  71. rooney the new king says:

    arsenal I dont think play great football I think they play disasterous football. uniteds football is getting there barcelona we all know are just sensational footbaling team

  72. aig alex is god says:

    rtnk

    i think Arsenal play good football but you must be able to mix up. Playing beautiful football wont win you games like we saw yesterday. sometimes you have to win ugly. you have no other option. United are successful because we can mix both.The difference is Chelsea always seem to win that way.

  73. King Eric says:

    Corea – What do you mean “In anticpation of King Eric’s post”? WE ARE DOING FINE WITHOUT RONALDO WE DON’T NEED HIM………………………………………..Oh wait I see what you mean. Only joking!!

    No I personally don’t miss his pissy fucking petulance and pouting. And kicking out at players and waving his arms. We move on, United always have. Great great player while he was here but he has gone and we are more of a team for it.

  74. King Eric says:

    Just read more posts. What is with the Ronaldo love in? And “lioving how he plays for the fascists”????? Fuck the cunt. I could not give a shite how he is performing for those cirxcus cunts. HE HAS GONE. NO LONGER A UNITED PLAYER!! It is bad enough the papers banging on without United fans.

  75. Corea says:

    King Eric – hi mate. in 06-07 we were actually a TEAM. after that yes, agree. but if he comes back we will continue to be a team but i don’t think it is not going to happen.

  76. King Eric says:

    Corea – Hi mate. Oh I agree the team spirit in 06/07 was good. It was just the last 18 months or so of his United career. Little things pissed me off . Not just the petulance etc but the way he always used to be looking in the camera , even the long lens one. Every shot of him celebrating goals and so on looked unnatural, forced almost. He was very aware of the camera shall I say. Regards your last sentence it is a double negative. Do you mean it is gonna happen or not pal ?

  77. Fze123 says:

    Great picture. Lets hope Rooney will just get better and better and continue to score. I wonder why Hargreaves is not in there…?

  78. Dave_pistol says:

    did anyone notice that anderson isn’t in the pics, hope its not a sign of things to come

  79. rooney the new king says:

    Corea – the difference is in 07/08 a phew players performences dipped and the teams sources of goals centred around 3 players.

    King Eric – What is your thoughts on this. I was listening to the times podcast today and I was fuming that prat oliver kay I cant stand the guy said chelsea look more like champions than united. So chelseas thuggish long ball kicking anti football who they were as bad controlling the ball as england, was more better than uniteds masterclass football against arsenal when are united gonna be taken serious.

    And why cant they face it at this moment of time united are the team to beat not a mention of united its pethetic. Oh I forgot we dont have ronaldo so we cant win nothing and the media and pundits have all made such idiots of themselves they cant go back on their word because they hate united, and united only beat pompey who were bad but if arsenal done that even chelsea we would hear chelsea or arsenal are gonna win it and that is a certain they would.

    What evidence is there chelsea look more like champions has he seen uniteds recent form compared to chelsea, with carrick fletcher scholes nani valencia giggs rooney even berbatov and owen not to mention good impact subs of diouf an obertan as options is still way better than what chelsea have to offer. you also add ferdinand and vidic returning so what bullshit is he on about oliver kay. I could only name essien lampard and drogba who would get anywhere near our midfield and attack.

    I hate the glazers like any united fan but when ever we have a good feel good factor about our title chances and our form picking up they will always use the glazers and the debt to try and make us depressed. what ever happens to united nothing can be doen to the team this season yet they still use this especially now as a way to say we will win nothing.

  80. Mu54 says:

    Fuck drogba Fuck ac Milan

  81. rooney the new king says:

    and it shows some idiots know nowt and they dont watch united.

    Manchester United are not a patch on what they were last season, and, while Chelsea have improved, they are hardly the all-conquering force of 2005 and 2006

    so the idiot Rory Smith says united are nowhere near as good as last season did he see united last season and how they tore arsenal apart and check the goals for record this season compared to last, did he forget uniteds depleted back line and uniteds loss of 2 forwards. oh yes we are nowhere near has good as last season because of ronaldo idiot, and chelsea have improved have they yea thats a right laugh. Sometimes I wonder who are these people who work for the media, their lack of knoledge and overall perspective why teams have not done as well has the previous year. when its all said and done they will look like idiots.

    http://blogs.telegraph.co.uk/sport/rorysmith/100005242/the-premier-leagues-twisting-turning-long-road-to-ruin/

  82. King Eric says:

    rooney the new king – Do not let it bother you mate. It does me I have to admit but now I find it very funny. The term ABU has never been more applicable. They will talk anyone up but United. First it was the dippers. Then when they failed it was the Rentboys. They stuttered over Xmas so they then said Arsenal would win it. In between all these I have even heard them say Citeh or even Villa could win it! They just won’t admit the fact they could possibly be wrong and United COULD just do it after all. They thought after Ronnie we were fucked so were quite happy to talk every other cunt up. However they now realise that we are hitting form and look likely to get number 19. Once again the Chav’s were completely outplayed yet still won. This will not go on till May. Win at Villa and Goodison and just watch the fuckers squirm. They have already been back tracking about United. Fuck them mate.

  83. rooney the new king says:

    King Eric – it has never truly bothered me I just have found it pethetic, they are like the typical racist alabama mob, despite what the black man does they will use any kind of excuse to hate the black race, thats how I feel with the media very bigged and small minded idiots. For me they will now use the last get out of jail card that rooney is carrying the team, shearer has said this in perticuler.

    all rooney has done is make berbatov and owen look very average, for me when we were struggling in the first part of the season it was guys like fletcher evra some other players who were really trying to drag the team through our bad times, obvious rooney was also but before he really hit this form thats what was happening yet its overlooked. in the 07/08 season guys like vds brown ferdinand vidic evra giggs rooney tevez who were getting overlooked by the media because they were not doing what ronaldo was doing and this side is no different and in my view its pethetic.

    Guys, it is so simple nowadays to figure out what some pundits will say.
    But the are all wrong and they know it. We were a one man team with Ronaldo, now we are one man team with Rooney. If you understand a little bit of logic you can see that it is utter nonsense.
    The difference between they and us is that we can find players to lead the team after the departure of a star player. They can’t.

    United are not a one man team. Okay Rooney is scoring bucketloads of them this season but hey, he is a striker so shouldnt he be scoring goals.Being a winger Ronaldo scoring 42 was surprising but Rooney isnt surprising me. He has improved on his positioning and finishing.A few years ago he used to get overexcited at times and moss simple chances,now he keeps his cool and slots them in.Cant deny that with Berbatov and Owen being inconsistent there is a bit of over reliance on Rooney but as long as he enjoys it, i dont care what anyone says. Some people crumble under the pressure,Rooney is thriving on it.

  87. cantona7 says:

    Congrats to Rooney. You are a contender for the WPOTY now. I mean it.

    IMHO, Drogba is a better striker than Rooney, but Rooney is by far the better football player than Drogba.

    Some fans need to get over ronny.

    The reds have performed gloriously very well. We must pay great attention to our back four and build a stronger mid field if we are to remain this strong.
