PICTURE: Evra Recognises A Genius When He Sees One

Evra polishes boots of Rooney and Ronaldo

“I am very happy for him because every time he plays, he respects the shirt,” Evra said after our 3-2 win over Milan. “He is a world-class player and I hope he stays like this because we want to win the second leg and we are also focused on the league. Wayne is Wayne Rooney now, he is more mature now, he has learnt a lot and now he wants to score, he has the hunger to score, not just to press the ball but to score and now he is a goalscorer.”

god i love this manchester united squad
Just like in the 90′s! when i was a little boy who was looking at these happy talented kind players!
    Good old days!

  2. kel says:

Well. Yesterday Rooney comment after the match that some people are not doing their job. It is reveal that he meant it at his team mates. This is something i don’t wish to see. Look at Roy Keane when he gave his interview on Fletcher. Now I feel Rooney ego is growing so much recently that he is always frustrated. I know he wants to win so much and so do we fans but it makes me remember Ronaldo in the past where he always put himself than on his team.

    @Kel

Since when is it a bad thing to hold your teammates accountable…this is a football club not a dating show, sometimes tough words need to be said

And to suggest that Rooney has EVER put himself above the team is insanity he is not like Ronaldo, he has only ever been for United!

If anything its encouraging to see him becoming more of a leader

  4. Redbeard says:

    @ Kel,

Read the article properly mate – the only quotes from Ronney are:

“I’m getting inside the box a lot more, and that’s helping me score goals,”

“I’m anticipating balls into the box. That’s the main thing I’ve been working on.”

Where does he say people are “not doing their jobs”? Journalists always try to spin these things and make a story where there isn’t one.

  5. SENSE says:

    MACHEDAISGOD@

get a grip son, this squad isnt worthy of being mentioned in the same sentence as squads of the 90′s.

    clueless.

  6. Doghouse says:

This isn’t the first time that Evra has spoken about the significance of the shirt, respecting it and such when wearing it on the field. He seems to really get that United connection and it’s great to see.

As for Rooney taking on that role of leading the charge, I think he can and he should. He’s that kind of guy. I think as he matures players will follow him, like they did Keano, because he’s just ferocious. Players would take the field with Roy Keane beside them and they wouldn’t be afraid of anybody and I can see that coming through in this team when Rooney plays. When he’s on form he inspires so much confidence, so much hunger. They are not there yet, but it’ll happen.

More stability, more concentration, and this team of ours is unstoppable.

  7. Gotta hate tiny tears says:

i taught he was gonna polish that wonderful forehead of his

  8. 20legend99 says:

Pat is the kind of player every supporter wants in their team. He is United through and through and is truly honored to wear the shirt.

@Macheda IS GOD – I agree with you. Our lads seem so happy to be playing, we’re more of a team now than we ever were with Ronaldo IMHO.

  13. trevor says:

You have to love Evra, his interviews are quality. I also bet he is a right laugh in the changing room as well!

  14. Ando08 says:

Rooneys comments were towards the ref, not a united player, listen to the interview carefully.

  15. trevor says:

I think rooney really needed that performance last night. He has had some big performances lately and he needed a big performance against a big team specialy in europe.

  16. trevor says:

    Question for you all?

Do you think Rooney would be at the same level he is now if Ronaldo had Stayed?

I dont think so to be honest,I think he was a little overshadowed and maybe at times didnt realise his own ability if that makes sense?

  17. 20legend99 says:

    @SENSE

The fuck are you on about? Ronnie was massive for us, but we’re play more as a squad now than when it was Rooney out on the wing and the MO was “feed it to Cristiano, feed it to Cristiano.”

    Delusional my arse.

  18. SENSE says:

    @Trevor

Rooney was at his best in 06/07.

    Ando08 YES!

  20. SENSE says:

    @20legend99

To say that we are more of a team now is fucking pathetic.

    You. Are. Fucking. Pathetic.

  21. chrispiano says:

Trevor I don’t think it has anything to do with Ronaldo, it’s just his improved in playing as a 4-5-1 and is much better as an all round striker not a second striker anymore.

Sense, Rooney is clearly referring to the referee. ‘did you let your feelings me known’ ‘yeah of course everyone gets frustrated from time to time and then I got the booking’ he got booked for dissent after he was penalised, he was getting frustrated with all his tackles going against him when he was having his shirt repeatedly pulled.

  22. SteniS says:

Yeah this bunch are certainly emering as a bunch of proper heroes. Not afraid to get stuck in and fight for eachother as a unit.

My mate (who is neutral) was saying before the game: “The Milan lineup definetly looks stronger than Uniteds. They’ve got some great players.”

I felt really good when I answered: “Yeah, it does. But United are the better team. It’s not all about filling your lineup with stars.”

    He agreed.

  23. aig alex is god says:

    @Trevor

Rooney always had this ability in him. Maybe had Ronaldo been there we may not have seen the best of him yet.Rooney has improved on his finishing. When the season started he scored a few and then started missing a few.The rooney of old would have gone on a goal scoring run and then would have had a goal drought. However with every game his finishing has improved and he has been much more lethal of late.Last season or prior to that he used to play forward for a few games, then was on the wings for a few games and didnt play as a proper centre forward like he is doing now.

  24. 20legend99 says:

SENSE is clearly a troll sent over from our bitter blue neighbors trying to convince us we were better when Tevez was in the team.

  25. united4life says:

    @SENSE

u must be a liverpool or city fan

  26. aig alex is god says:

I dont think we have become more of a team or anything like that. When Ronaldo was there we were a good team too and played like a team. The spirit of the team in 07-08 was fantastic.Last year in the 2nd half of the season due to Ronaldo and Tevez wanting out the team spirit was affected a bit but i dont think we are more of a team now then we were then.

Ronaldo was the best player in the team so naturally the tendency will be to give the ball to him more.

  27. kel says:

I’m not sure who he meant. If it is the referee i could be delighted. If it was the players i could be thinking his ego is getting more. After reading some comments, i glad i’m wrong.

  28. Pondave says:

    @ Kel

In the interview where he said ‘some people are not doing their jobs right’ it is clear when you listen to the whole interview he is talking about the referee.

Great result last night but a pretty poor performance.

But puts us in great shape for the return leg where we should qualify from this position!

  29. spencer says:

Rooney has always been good. but people just became obsessed with him scoring more goals, which to be fair was important this season with ronnie going. People are suddenly raving about rooney because he is scoring more when actually he has always averaged 20 a season, which isn’t exactly poor for a striker. in fact, it is very good. his all round play is decent but personally i felt it was better in 04-05.

  30. TonyBee says:

If you are a striker waiting in the box for a crossed ball to come in and it never comes anywhere near you time after time….it would piss you off.
Nani consistently failed to get a decent cross in and it showed as when Valencia came on Goal to Rooney. why then should he keep quiet?
I note that people on here are saying that Rooney’s ego is getting too big (Kel@19:12) and comparing him to Ronaldo. I go on record that Wazza will be a bigger better player that sulky bollocks. Wazza tracks back and when he gets clattered over doesn’t spend minutes on his fucking arse waving at the referee for a foul. Both Rooney and Ronaldo are great players, but your heart has to be in it to play consistently, and that is why Rooney will always be a better player than Ronnie.

  31. kel says:

    @aig alex is god

I agree with you. I couldn’t say we play as a team more than in the past. I do think 2007-2008 spirit is the best. The team is trying hard to win CL. It’s the first time Rooney and Ronaldo win. Definitely the atmosphere is good. Now with all those expectations more than ever after Ronaldo leaves, i do think frustration will be more. But i still think with fergie the team spirit will never be too low. He’s the boss there. lol

  32. kel says:

    @TonyBee

I could agree but if you watch the match consistently, you could notice Rooney frustrated with fletcher, evra, nani, carrick. I know he wants to win but he also must trust his team mates to score as i feel he is thinking he is only one that can win the game. This is so wrong as he is the one to feel that United are not a one man team doesn’t it?

  33. King Eric says:

kel – It was aimed at the ref not his fellow team mates. Listen to the original interview. BigPhil back me up!

Talking of Rooney where is “Justice for Heysel” these days?

  34. King Eric says:

Sense – What is your problem? Does it make you feel better arguing with every post on here? Try summat constructive yourself.

  35. King Eric says:

Sense – Grow up or get fucked. Prick.

  36. aig alex is god says:

    @kel

As long as Fergie is there dont think he will let anyone get too big for their boots. So team spirit wont be a problem. He did say some days back that he is the boss so i dont think anyone will try and test his patience.Poor Jonny, felt the full force of his hair dryer yesterday. Wonder how it must be in the dressing room.

As for the Rooney interview i thought he was talking about the players because the ref was giving silly fouls but i dont think he was that bad that he can be blamed. It was more to do with us being poor than the refree.

Dont worry mate. Rooney will never consider himself bigger than the team.He will always be the same player who is willing to do anything for his team’s benefit.

  37. King Eric says:

Rooney is at his best now and you know it. As I said do you need to have a go at everyone on here to massage your ego? You sound like a spoiled kid pal.

  38. spencer says:

“you are a striker waiting in the box for a crossed ball to come in and it never comes anywhere near you time after time….it would piss you off.
Nani consistently failed to get a decent cross in and it showed as when Valencia came on Goal to Rooney. why then should he keep quiet?”

  42. hurr says:

Does this mean Obertan will turn out great? Didn’t Evra polish his boots in the Wolfsburg match?

  43. aig alex is god says:

  44. maci says:

    I love this hahahaha!!!

  45. 20legend99 says:

    @hurr

I think Obertan is going to be a top player regardless of Evra polishing his boots. The lad has a spark, you can just sense it. Just needs time to develop.

  46. Hampy says:

OOOhhh it was such a lovely game and Sir Alex again proved why he is the greatest ever. Gotta love this team and gotta love how all wanna contribute to it. It was plain Milan was toothless on the right side and Park was sent to the left to help out Nani & Rafael to shut them down. Brilliant.

Evra is just the best a football fan can get. Great, great guy and United through and through.

Rooney was amazing, and he did show frustration in 1st half, but to be honest one or two crosses from Nani were good but he didnt go for them. So it was not all bad from Nani imo. But comment on interview was towards referee. There wasnt a single tackle (I think not 1 !!) in 1st half he won that ref didnt see as a foul. But I am worried about that yellow of his. Sooner or later he will get another one. :(

@SENSE please man go away. You are ruining a great blog here and your insults towards posters and your type of communication is ruining this great blog and its community. Please go to official Talking Reds forum, which is sadly unreadable lately due to people like you. Too much hate.

  47. spencer says:

I agree about Porto. Mind you, they sold some of their best players in the summer and haven’t really replaced them so won’t be too easy for them. but the drago is a horrible stadium for the opposition and is a tough, tough stadium to go to

  48. Rossee says:

Evra is a fuckin legend & wazza is god….We got a great team spirit these days …..up the cockney reds !!!

  49. Paul Parker says:

    who left the door open?

As people are saying, Evra is the type of player all supporters want in their team. For me he’s the best left back in the world, think about how often he gets forward and compare with how many times you see him caught out? He is tireless and consistent. Rooney is definitely a better player having worked and trained hard on his 6 yard box finishing, like headers and timing his runs for tap ins. You can see how much he’s improved himself. Lasy night was no easy ride and we did well with Raphael and Evans in to the team to win. Valencia showed his class yet again, proving we have great options on the right. All we need now, are new options up front…

  50. james21 says:

    @20legend99
My mate had a chat about Obertan with Arthur Albiston at the Hull game. A.A said When Obertan misses a goal, or something like a pass doesn’t come off he really takes it to heart and crucifies himself. You can actually see it in his face when he plays and something doesn’t come off.
He will be a good player just needs time and a bit of encouragement.

    @ Tony B. 20:12
    Totally agree mate.

  51. Kozzie says:

gotta love the inexpirienced goalkeepers :D

  52. Kings says:

kel – he was actually referring to the ref. He said that had someone done their job properly he would not have said anything and would not have been booked. He’s not the type to have a pop at his team mates, if anything he always praises them in public.

  53. Paul Parker says:

but I can’t see Berbatov with us next season.
    Maybe thats wishful thinking?
    ….
If he does leave, I think its fair. He’s had ample opportunity to shine but for whatever reason it hasn’t happened. I expected him to play a role in Europe but thankfully Alec has learned his lesson from last years final. I think we’ll be compact in this tournament rather then going out and playing every team – Our squad isn’t 100% and won’t be until next season when our transition period hopefully ends. After we settle young players into their position and bring in some new talent we can be more expansive next season, but for now I want to see us choke teams in midfield, play reserved and force them to commit forward so we can catch them on the break. Given our defensive problems, playing 4/5/1 is perfect for us this season but unfortunatley it means Ole Berby has to be sacrificed for Rooney.
    ….
I really can’t see him surviving Summer, not because he’s a shit player, but because it hasn’t worked and we need to recoup some of the money we paid for him. Rooney as a sole striker isn’t sustainble, he needs a reliable player to support him upfront and share the burden of goals. I’d love to see BENZEMA in our team, he’s scored bags for Madrid even though he’s hardly started and I can see Madrid letting him go to buy even more players next summer. Karem wanted first team football but he’ll never get that with Ronaldo and Co ahead of him. Whoever we bring in we need a proven Goal Threat, preferably young and able to play anywhere, unlike Berbatov who cannot bomb to the byline, beat a man and cross it. Arguably, Benzema has to be one of the best young prospects in the world right now, he can play anywhere and he’s already scored 20 this season off the bench. Sign him up Alec !! Farewell Berbatov, he won’t get a look in this Champions League, we’ll stick with 4/5/1 for as long as we can.

Oh dear, Arsenal are looking a little ropey. 1-0 Porto.
    HAHA AND CAMPBELL SCORES !!!!

  54. 20legend99 says:

    @Paul Parker

I don’t know if you saw the article (I think it was on espn) but apparently Benzema is isolated in Madrid and lives in an apartment with hardly any furniture. I doubt the Facists would let him go on the cheap, but we’ll see if Fergie is still interested. I completely trust the man.

    @james21

That’s what’s good about Obertan. He wants to be top class and Fergie will get it out of him. He’s certainly got the pace.

  55. rooney the new king says:

SENSE – You are not worthy to be called a united fan let alone come on here and comment. I sence you are a spoiled brat at 8 years old who only thinks midfielders in the united team should score 20 a season. And dont go on about the 2008 side a quality team but a very overated side by many. LOL rooney better in the 06/07 season, yes the same rooney who now can score penaltys core with his head he now knows how to play the central role and he has overtaken his previous best goalscoring record of 23. you were not even born in 99 you stupid burk.

  56. aig alex is god says:

That Porto manager is the most expressionless human being i have ever seen.Never reacts to anything.

  57. Drew Vader says:

I haven’t read the comments yet, just wanted to say that I think this celebration from Project Pat is lame. I wish he wouldn’t do it. But thats just me

  58. AlphaRS says:

    @rooney the new king
I think I may have mentioned a while back that when playing the 4-3-3 formation over the past few years I felt the midfield 3 didn’t contribute enough goals. Then again alot of emphasis was placed on Ronnie. Now he has left Rooney is shining and hopefully someone the midfield will start scoring a few more goals too.

Also Berbatov class he may be (debateable imho) doesn’t seem to have a place in the side while playing 4-3-3. Comes in useful when a plan b is requeired or playing 4-4-2. Seems like a waste of money to stick him on the bench.

  59. Paul Parker says:

    @ 20legend99

I hope thats the case. Im not surprised Benzema is being mistreated, he was promised first team football but he’s hardly started, and when he has he’s been sensational – 20 goals in only a few starts is Quality for a first season in La Liga. Lyon showed how imbalanced the Madrid side are this season. They were poor yesterday and lucky not to lose by more. So United aide, nothing would make me happier then seeing Madrid crash out of the CL again with Kaka, Ronaldo, Alonso and Benzema all ending their first season trophy-less. La Liga is Barcelona’s to lose, so if they retain their crown I can see Benzema coming to United. Its the smart move, after all Alec was watching him long before Madrid, and even Ronaldo couldn’t keep United out of his mind on the eve of his first CL knock out match with Madrid. So hopefully Benzema is learning a Lesson in his first season in spain, Manchester United is a greater Club to play for than La Facists.

  60. Anon says:

all that talent, + Fergie’s mentorship, he HAS to turn out great!

  61. denton davey says:

TonyBee @ 20:12: “Nani consistently failed to get a decent cross in ”

Not true – his crossing was not good but on at least one occasion he put the ball into “danger area” behind the defenders and in front of the keeper and WayneRooney had NOT run to that spot. What I remember is that WayneRooney had remained fixed to the penalty dot – and remonstrating – but, really, how was Nani to know that ?

I’m watching Bayern right now – Robben is very dangerous; Ribery is not.

  62. aig alex is god says:

Maybe too early to say but watch out for Bayern Munich this year in the Champions league.Van Gaal has really turned things around in the last 2 months or so. Arjen Robben looks a real handul. 6 games running he has scored now.

  63. hurr says:

lol Gooners. Have they at least one competent goalkeeper? Even Foster would have done better with that first goal…

  64. denton davey says:

I’m a big fan of Patrice BUT I think that Ca$hley Hole is a superior defender; Evra is fantastic going forward but that means he’s often out of position when the game suddenly shifts.

They are both terrific athletes BUT one of them – and it ain’t Patrice – is a complete twat.

  65. denton davey says:

Paul Parker @ 21:04: “Benzema has to be one of the best young prospects in the world right now, he can play anywhere and he’s already scored 20 this season off the bench. Sign him up Alec !! Would you swap Vidic for Benzema, straight up ?

What do you think Berbatov would be worth on the transfer market ?

  66. denton davey says:

Paul Parker @ 21:09: “nothing would make me happier then seeing Madrid crash out of the CL again with Kaka, Ronaldo, Alonso and Benzema all ending their first season trophy-less.”

I’m in absolute and total agreement with you on that !

  67. denton davey says:

From a comment by “speaktruth” on the Guardian blog:

“So Nani had a bad 45mins?

So did every member of the team in white.

Valencia comes on, puts in a cross that Rooney scored from. Prior to that Nani put in an identical cross which Fletcher headed wide. He put in another good cross with his wrong foot which landed almost on the penalty spot begging a forward to attack it, but no one including Wazza did.

We are so desperate to make highlights judgements of players that we forget the whole picture.”

  68. aig alex is god says:

Expect some trash talking by Arsene Wenger over that 2nd Porto goal. The ref was spot on to allow them to take that free kick. Moment of madness by the keeper.

remember a similar incident 5 odd years back when Henry took a quick free kick in a 2-2 draw with Chelsea at Highbury. Wenger had no problems then so he should shut his mouth and accept that his keeper fucked it up.

  69. denton davey says:

    Also from today’s Guardian:

“The Manchester City midfielder Patrick Vieira has been charged with violent conduct after appearing to kick Stoke City’s Glenn Whelan between the legs.

The former Arsenal captain, making his second start for City, kicked out after being challenged by Whelan early on in the 1-1 Premier League draw at the Britannia Stadium last night.

The Football Association brought the charge against the 33-year-old after reviewing replays of the incident. Vieira has been given until tomorrow to respond to the charge and will face a hearing in front of a regulatory commission on Friday.”

So, what do you guys think: is this nut-shot worthy of three games like the SweetFA gave to Rio for a case of “Hand Bags” or is there a different set of rules in operation ?

  70. rooney the new king says:

Paul Parker – maybe united can off madrid berbatov and vidic in exchange for benzama since now united never really play vidic and berbatov a mad idea but I think its a simple and wise decision.

AlphaRS – na I disagree I do not think its massive to have the midfield heavily scoring, over the past phew years have shown build the side around the attack and trophys will still come.

  71. rooney the new king says:

denton davey – speaktruth I have had my clashes with he is a very ficle fan. But for anyone to blame nani because he had a bad day at the office who didnt christ. even rooney was at times poor.

“I am very happy for him because every time he plays, he respects the shirt”

    classic!

  73. denton davey says:

If any of you think that last night’s Portuguese referee was a joke – well, just watch the Bayern last-minute goal. The scorer – Olic – must have been five yards offside ! No surprise, though, that the referee-in-question is the clown who was given the job of making sure that Barcelona squeezed in past the RentBoyz last May – Platini didn’t want two successive Manchester/London derbies in “his” European showcase.

  74. Jandsdad says:

    @ denton davey

yeah watching the ref and linesman they are shocking.
Gobbi was sent off for fuck all and then Klose only got booked for a very late tackle.
How the fuck did they allow the second goal?

That ref needs to be sacked from big european games, let him referee in worthless events like the Europa cup ha ha

What do you’s reckon about Jovetic of fiorentina? He didn’t have much to work with tonight but I rate him and would be happy to see him @ United, i remember United were looking at him when he was at belgrade. I think he is still in his teens.

Just seen the second Porto goal, campbell just mugged himself . Ha ha ha

as if they would want berbatov.

  76. spencer says:

“nothing would make me happier then seeing Madrid crash out of the CL again with Kaka, Ronaldo, Alonso and Benzema all ending their first season trophy-less”

erm, how about us winning number 19 or us winning the CL or the scouse not making the top four or the massives also not doing so despite all their money being spent? All that would make me far more happier than what some spanish team do or do not do.
for what its worth, I want Madrid out of the CL as the less competition for us the better but the vast amount of money they spent last summer was not just for this season, it was to achieve results over the next five years.

  77. Redmegleeker says:

Nani didnt play well. Scholes was excellent. Carrick was ok.

Look, Rooney didnt have that great a first half to be fair. His comments at the end had my living room split too. Then them boys at the side of the pitch including Gullit who had a ridiculous scarf option, told us he was getting at Nani and people believe that.

Ofcourse Sky were going to make it as contentious as possible.

I firmly believe that Rooney was at the referees here, he knows maybe how close he was to gettin a second yellow and felt the tightrope beneath his feet.

Let it sit and bask in this excellent result all round.

    Yip.

no one played well 1st half bar Van der sar and Fletcher.
Scholes was at fault for a dodgy pass back that allowed ronaldinho in on Ferdinand but he made up for it second half with a majestic display of passes
Evans was nervous but that was due to Ferdidands hesitantcy.
Nani is always seen as an easy scapegoat , just before he came off he dinked a lovely ball to the far post that was almost identical to the cross Rooney converted.

  80. paulinhareddevil6 says:

Why is Evra polishing Rooney’s boots?? he scored both goals with the head… LOL.. Good one lads!!

  81. rewind says:

Lmao….Sense talks so much non-sense its inbelievable. If you cant see we are more of a team then when in the three years of ronnie’s contract with us then your an idiot!!! END OF STORY

  82. Costas says:

Didn’t watch much of today’s games, but I heard that Sol is already repaying Wenger’s faith! :P

I did see though Bayern’s second goal. With Platini watching at the stands, can’t say that it surprised me. Not that they aren’t a good side, but that second goal was a travesty.

  83. Paul Parker says:

Denton – If Vidic wanted to go then YES id definetely swap him for Benzema. That would be a STEAL considering Benzy is 23 years old. Lets be honest, Vidic is 28/29 and he came from Dynamo Kiev. Im a great fan of his, always have been, but nobody was beating a path to his door until we signed him. Supporters did not sing his praises until he put on our shirt and played like a veteran. Obiovusly he had great talent before he came, but we’ve brought the best out of him during his time with us. For instance I’ve got great faith in Smalling becoming a great Centre Back wearing our shirt. So yes, based on age and proven ability, I’d definetely swap Vidic for Benzema IF both players were unhappy at their current clubs and both REALLY wanted to swap teams. Benzema for us would be amazing.

As for Berby, im not sure what we would sell him for – at least 20 odd million – somebody will buy him for that and I can imagine him scoring against us as well! But unless he has an amazing CL (which would have to be truely amazing considering he’s playing from the bench) I think he deserves to be sold. He’s not a youngster, and as an aging player of amazing quality he himself should want to pursue FIRST TEAM football. Its like a soon-to-be Ex Girlfriend, somebody has to know when to call it a day… I think its time, and I’ve been patient as everybody. I’d be surprised if he’s still here next year, because for us to click up a gear we need to partner Rooney next season and move to a 3/3/4 saving 4/5/1 for Europe and tough away games. Berby isn’t the right player to take us to the next level. I’d rather see Kiko or Diouf ahead of Berbatov right now because you can imagine them bursting a lung to get on the end of a cross. Look at Welbeck at Preston, getting battered about but still scoring and always threatening goal with energy. Berby is a different player, he plays with guile not pace, so he needs to be the focal of a team and he’ll never be that for us. For his own good he should secure a move to an abitious team who will build around him and give him First Team football. Berby shouldn’t be pushed he should leave as a matter of pride. I think Arsenal would have him. Dreams don’t always come true at the Theatre – dry your eyes mate.

  84. denton davey says:

Jandsdad @ 22:49 : “What do you’s reckon about Jovetic of fiorentina?”

He’s small, tricky, and quick – has the look of an Arsenal player to me. You’re right, though, he wasn’t up to much in tonight’s game.

The only player who stood out in the Bayern/Fiorentina match was Arjen Robben – and his train has left the station (with him in sick bay). Too bad – he’s very fast, tricky AND left-footed. But he made his bed when he spurned SAF and went to the RentBoyz; now, he’s cold product.

  85. King Eric says:

Fuck Benzema the cunt. He made it quite clear which team he preferred.

As for Arsenal did anyone else notice the difference in commentary to our game last night? Beglin and the other cunt did nothing apart from praise Arsenal constantly. How they had appeared in the last 16 MORE TIMES THAN UNITED. Whoopee fucking doo how many times have they won it? Banging on about the perfect football and going fucking mental when they scored. Then they were saying how a 2-1 defeat is ok ? What the fuck? Arsenal are well and truely toothless and it has just been confirmed Fabregas is a good player but a snidy little cunt and a big game bottler.

  86. King Eric says:

Paul Parker – Benzema hasn’t scored 20 goals mate, he has scored EIGHT. He looks 2 stone over weight as well.

  87. King Eric says:

To be fair I thought Campbell did ok tonight. He was not to blame for the second goal, it was Fabianski’s fault who two minutes prior to his first faux pas the commentators were saying how Wenger had said he is the best young keeper around. He is shit. Arsenal will remain trophyless until they buy a top keeper, top centre half, a ball winner in midfield and a striker. Basically a whole spine. Flat track bullies, nothing more.

  88. King Eric says:

I wouldn’t swap Vidic for that cunt Benzema, no chance. Whatever has happened Vidic is still a fucking fantastic centre half. Benzema was enticed by the lure of money. Greedy bastard, knowing full well he would have made it under Fergie. Frankly I don’t want players like this at United. He has made his bed let the cunt lie in it. What are United, some second choice club now?

  89. King Eric says:

Very easy to slate Berbatov and I ain’t getting into it but in the tight games at home he has been the one to unlock teams of late.

  90. Costas says:

    @King Eric

At the moment that’s where Berba is more effective. But at some point, he has to be used more. For example, he could start against Everton giving Scholesy a breather, but Fergie has probably made up his mind about using 4-5-1 away all the time. Besides, Rooney can’t play every game until the end of the season, so like it or not, Berba is crucial for us.

It’s a pity Michael Owen has been completely lost in the last few games.

  91. Xyth says:

Just came back from Milan, still on high from last night.
I just want to pay tribute to our away support.

THEY ARE SECOND TO NONE!!!!!!!!! THEY ARE SIMPLY AMAZING!!!!!

As for the squad, I think we need a right back who can defend properly. I though Rafael was too easy even for ageing Ronaldinho. I would like to see Wes Brown at right back.

  92. Park likes dags says:

Totally agree King Eric & Costas – The Berbabashers are back! :O(

Always one player to pick out? even when he hasn’t played & been nursing a knee injury…
The season is still full of games and opportunities for all players in this squad and some ‘well informed’ ahem.. fans have the gaul to start picking and choosing players to sell & swap? The Benzema swap theories are a pure 13 year old’s fantasy. as
1 – He doesn’t want to come to this team/City/Country!
2 – Swap Vidic? Are you MENTAL!? He’s a ’28/29 year old CB! = Prime fucking time!!They easily play till mid 30′s if they follow a giggsyesque diet!
3 – On Evans’ performance last night and the fact it’ll be 10 odd years till Smalling reaches his ‘peak’ It’s farcical to think they can just slot in there!?
We can’t afford a trophyless season people! We can have transition at the front but not at the back! Just ask Arse fans…

Berba and MO7 are suffering from a tactical decision. 4-5-1 + Rooney on fire up top means EVERY other striker will wait their turn! as soon as ‘the boy’ starts getting knackered of absolutely terrorising defences, watch those hungry subs clamour over each other to impress in the run in.

And that my friends, is the genius that is Sir Alex Ferguson

Oh yeah, when in doubt, just fucking trust the man!!
    UNI TED!

  93. Park likes dags says:

Oh yeah and SENSE = ManutdChump101!!hahaha he’s back people!
    Scott please verify?!

  94. Ozzy says:

I would rather swap vidic for pato instead of benzema IF he’s about to leave.. pato would be an ideal partner with rooney upfront since he’s such a quite young boy with great talent especially under the supervision of SAF.

  95. Rooney22United says:

its good for Rooney to wake his mates up at half time, but I hope he doesn’t do it too much, the rest of the team might think he is too much of a bitch, self centred like Ronaldo. Or at least apologise to his team mates. Last thing I want in the dressing room is a divided group of players. Sir Alex will make sure Rooney doesn’t develop into such character, I hope.

  96. manutd4eve says:

stop fighting guys. yes rooney was speaking about first half and directly pointing at nani as he was saying after(next quietion)that the game plan (and people not doing thier job) where nani’s crosses in to the boxes where should be delivered straight to rooney thats the reason rooney stayed on the line two times where nani crossed the ball in to the box straight to keeper.( game plan was head the ball staying away from 6yrds box) did anyone noticed rooney always stayed away from the defenders to make them think rooney isnt gonna play the ball so he leftout most of the time thats what u call SAF genius.

  97. Rooney22United says:

    ahah good imagination, manutd4eve!

  98. Busby_Way says:

We need a left sided attacker (preferably left footed) and an attacking center mid (not really a “need” rather than something to take us up a level). Hulk at Porto is very useful because he plays left forward as well as striker which would feed both 4-5-1 and 4-4-2. His physique and work rate make him ideal Premiership and Man United material. As far as attacking center mid, Cleverley looks very good so we should expand his opportunities next season and grow his role over the next two years. If we let Anderson or Gibson go, then we could bring in someone like Milner (ideal) or Stephen Ireland (probably on way out at City, but would have to change do a u-turn on his personality, he is an absolute tit.)

  99. Drabik says:

I have no idea why Evra is polishing Rooney’s boots. He scored two headers!! Polish his head!

  100. jeet says:

Just my two cents – in a football team, its good to have a tough ferocious leader who can pull the team up and influence matches. Its good to be demanding and not accept anything less than 100%. Thats one part of leadership. The other part involves the less tangible, “softer” side of things like motivating people, isntilling self belief, and respecting individual differences in temperament. One of the golden rules is “Never criticise an individual in public”. Absolutely NEVER. And that is what Rooney’s leadership lesson is from this episode – hope he learns it.

  101. jeet says:

Off topic: Any thoughts on Le Arse’s hilarious display yesterday? I couldnt stop laughing…men against boys….

  102. bigphil2003 says:

@Kel – he was definitely talking about the ref, I explained why in the other thread (the one with the goal videos), but I think all that you should need to be convinced is look at your own quote:

“I’m not sure who he meant. If it is the referee i could be delighted. If it was the players i could be thinking his ego is getting more.”

Rooney? Ego? Thinking he’s better/more important than his teamates and showing that publicly? Not a chance.

  103. kel says:

    @aig alex is god

Yeah. I hope too. As i want to see more from him in this club. :)

  104. kel says:

    @bigphil2003

Well. To me that is. I hope i’m wrong but if he is always frustrated, i feel frustrated too. Imagine Carrick keep on frustrated on Rooney not being able to score, Scholes frustrated on fletcher being poor. How can the team spirit be good. This is just an example.

  105. Gotta hate tiny tears says:

talk about thick thick thick thick thickidy thick thick stupidity
wolves have been fined because of the side the fielded against united

  106. theboogeyman says:

GHTT- That Wolves thing is absolute bullshit. Who the hell are the FA to decide what a club’s strongest team is? It changes every match.

Bunch of effing jokers, the FA.

  107. Costas says:

Ok. Now lets fine Liverpool and United for fielding second string teams against Fulham and West Ham in 06-07 leading to Shef. United’s relegation. Idiots.

  108. Costas says:

Plenty of crap in today’s papers. Reports about the Serbian FA complaining about United not filling them in about Vidic’s injury problems. Other reports saying that Barca could be interested in O’Shea…

  109. aig alex is god says:

    @Costas

    Hi mate. Good afternoon

am i reading that rightly?. Barca intrested in O shea. Are you serious.

Very intrested in seeing what punishment VIeira gets. He has been charged for that incident against Stoke, hasnt he?

  110. 0161-Jon says:

rooney was talking about the ref, not his team mates.

  111. Costas says:

    @AIG

Hi mate. Yeah, according to a Catalan newspaper they want him as backup for Alves. Also, there were reports about us and Joe Cole.

And more stories about Vidic wanting to stay. Yawn.

  112. willierednut says:

Any chance barca will give us 80 million for o’shea?

  113. Costas says:

And Viera has been charged for violent conduct.

  114. King Eric says:

    Barca after Sheasy!!

    United after Cole

    Morning.

RTNK and aig – Hello lads – ANOTHER abu article by the guardian.

    http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/blog/2010/feb/18/manchester-united-milan-champions-league

  115. King Eric says:

Also why the fuck have Wolves received a suspended fine for fielding that team at OT?

  116. King Eric says:

gotta hate – Morning mate, have not read todays posts yet. It is a fucking outrage about Wolves.

  117. Corea says:

Costas – why you hate Vidic ? ;)
    Hello everyone.

  118. Costas says:

    Hey Corea.

Nah, I don’t hate Vidic. I value what he has done for as in the last 4 years. After our defensive display at Milan, we could use him soon. I am just tired of talking. He, his agent and Sir Alex are constantly stating the obvious: That he is our player until 2012. We got the point. Now lets get him back on the pitch.

Also, I wonder why the Serbian FA are making those complaints about us.

  119. willierednut says:

I was watching hulk closely last nite, wasn’t that impressed with him, and certainly not worth 20 million.

  120. Corea says:

    Costas – ok.

“I have never had a conflict of any kind with Sir Alex Ferguson and rife speculation that I want to leave United is completely untrue,” Vidic said. “I have a contract until the summer of 2012 and I have every intention of seeing it through to the very last day. United have made me the player I am today and there is no substance whatsoever in rumours that I have been looking for a move away to either Real Madrid or AC Milan.”

Of course he is lying to us. What a twat!

I am done with all of this bullshit and will be waiting with Costas for the return of the player. We need him after seeing the Milan game. Unfortunately for some of the people here.

  121. aig alex is god says:

    @King Eric

    Hi mate.

Cant see too much wrong with that article. We need to spend atleast 200 million to get anywhere near Chelsea or Man city.Aguero for 50 million, Ribery for 60 million, Kjaer for 20 million are absolute musts for us if we want to make the top 4 next season. If we dont i think even avoding relegation will be a big achievemnt for us.80 odd goals so far this season isnt much,is it?.

  122. Red Devil says:

    Good Evening guys…..

    @ King Eric

That article made me laugh …. :D
and I imagine they get paid for writing such drivel!!

Next best job after what AIG does for a living ;)

  123. Corea says:

A decision on Wolves is a strange one. What is full strength team ? Play with 11 players the whole season ? Ridiculous.

  124. Costas says:

    @Corea

If he can return 2-3 games before the Milan game and get some practice, that would be the best scenario. First game back is always tricky.

Another thing that I am wondering about, is why we haven’t talked about extending his contract. If Rio can be a United player at 32, then so can Vidic.

  125. Gee says:

    @ King Eric

Yeah I saw that bollocks on the highlights last nite mate, Im sure Ive heard before that Utd were the most consistant group qualifiers in the CL competitions history!! and we were the most consistant last 16 qualifiers as well!! I could be wrong but Im fucking positive Ive heard that!! Its typical ABU media shite mate, like an article I saw yesterday saying how Chelski and Barca would be sat enjoying our defence’s and Milan’s dodgy performance, is it me our do people see Chelski as some fucking dominant team who has won more titles than any other English team!! do they forget that we have played with no defence this season and Chelski still couldnt put the league to bed!! it really is a disgrace how much bullshit they print and spout in the media!! If Utd was spanish we would be hailed as the greatest team to ever play the game, but to our media we are hated!! Mind boggling!!

  126. Gee says:

    ‘OR’ not ‘OUR’ lol

  127. Muggaz says:

    Hi Everyone

The Chealski bandwagon is really pissing me off right now – Everyone is saying how we are a one man team, but we actually have more individual goal scorers than those fucking rent boys… Everyone waxes lyrical about them putting 7 past Sunderland or whatever it was, everyone forgets how shit Sunderland were on the road in that period, and they also conveniently forget they only scraped draws against Hull twice and were merked by Wigan… Chelsea will be found out by the end of the season, mark my words.

  128. willierednut says:

    @king eric
I seen some of your posts the other nite about the milan match mate, you and me must be the only ones happy with that result. i honestly believe if united had won 6 1 some people wud still not be happy. ps kevin mcarra is a dick wudn’t take much notice of him

  129. Mclovin7 says:

quick question who would like to see man utd do a see swap deal with milan ronaldinho for berbatov same work rate but ronaldinho is more effective?

  130. Gee says:

    @ Muggaz

    Fully agree mate!!

    @ Willierednut

Im with you and King Eric mate, I thought they were only in the game coz we were sloppy with our passing. We would have dicked them by even more goals if we had settled earlier in the game but when we did we bullied them with a classy european display!!

  131. Gee says:

    @ Mclovin7

I think Ronaldinho would cause to much unrest in the dressing room for me mate, he is to intrested in partying now. Its a shame but if SAF had got him when Kenyon fucked it up, I reckon you would be looking at one of the all time greats coz SAF would have made sure he didnt fuck around. To be honest I thought he was alright the other night but not as good as some are making out and nowhere near what he was, and Berba does have some classy moves mate he just needs some consistency in his game!!

  132. brett1985 says:

It’s nothing to do with recognising a great player, he just has a foot fetish.

  133. King Eric says:

willierednut and Gee – Yeah I know lads, what is wrong with people? Watched it again last night and I have to say for most of the second half and last 15 of the first half United were superb. Qucik, crisp passing and great movement. The move for Scholes goal was top drawer.

  134. King Eric says:

Gee – Great post at 13.00. Completely agree mate. As I said last night the reason they talk the Chav’s up is because it is a back handed dig at United. Like you say anyone would think the Rentboys had just appeared in two successive Champions League Finals and going for four on the spin titles!

Red Devil – Yeah nothing beats aig’s job .

  135. willierednut says:

I see collymore is saying he wrote of united to quickly and i remember durham said city wud finish above us, always great to prove them wrong.

  136. rooney the new king says:

King Eric – I read the article and it was a very strange article and his title never seemed to back up his view why united need an overhaul. And here is my 2 cents on the article if it is long well to bad just gonna get my point across.

We are not going to deny the fact united were all over the shop and many pointed out the defence look at chelsea against everton. Well there were major factors behind the poor peformences at the back. He used experience of the likes of neville brown maybe should have started ahead of rafeal. But rafeal is now starting to apear week in week out and we are starting to get a consistant RB player, which rafeal is starting to own that position.

my view on the poor performences of 3 defenders
rafeal – well he is learning every game he plays, the milan game was lesson for him but at the tender age of 18 or 19 the world is his oyster

evans – another very young defender but how many times does evans play badly since he got back in the team he has been outstanding this was a bad game but he will learn.

ferdinand – he is slowly starting to get back into the groove, his lack of matches which reads 4 games in 3 months which showed. A mix of injurys and his suspensions was a big factor in united’s lack of composer at the back overall.

So really to think the milan game is a bench mark of where united’s performences from certain players is currently at the way they played was an awful game to use when all teams have bad games.

he said the 2 transfer markets united have done very little, my view is fergie’s signings of the likes of nani anderson berbatov are been giving a proper season, if no improvements are seen changes in some area’s will be made.

He went on about valencia has not taken the premiership by storm, well consider he has more goals than young and gerrard not a bad return, and we all know he is no ronaldo, madrid could not find another ronaldo thats why they paid 80 million he is once in a generation.

he also said there are tougher games ahead, well tell me who in europe is there anyone better than milan.

barcelona – they maybe on paper a talented side but united are fare better balanced than last season and fletcher will be playing

inter – they are nothing to be feared, united beat them last season

chelsea – well very overated are propably the second oldest side in europe behind milan

real madrid – what is their team structure alot of names but they are still a poor outfit who’s mentality to winning when it counts crumbles like an old building

  137. rooney the new king says:

this article should be aimed at chelsea who will have to rebuild their entire midfield and frontline maybe a phew defenders.

essien – since his big injury he has not been the same player, he is now injury prone the steal he once had before his injury has now gone and he cant be relied upon.

ballack – the guy is 32 can he be relied upon next year or in the next phew years

deco – he is just picking up his big wages, he is nt the force he once was and a strange signing from chelsea

lampard – he is the youngest of chelsea’s 30 plusmidfield players, still on top ofhis game but like scholes lampards goal scoring years has every year ticks by the goals will dry up, it os already happening with gerrard.

mikel – he maybe the youngest of chelsea’s midfield but he is a poor mans essien and anderson and would anyone want him has the future when you look at his attitude

you add the wide players of J cole maloudo, are they better than valencia nani park giggs obertan.

drogba – he is another 30 plus striker maybe 31 but in a phew years time is he gonna be the same force has he once was.

anelka – 30 maybe a striker still in their prime but give it 2 years and if tehy still dont sign a young forward since chelsea have been cold in the transfer market they will have strikers 32 and 33.

we can add carvalhio terry who are in their late 20s or in their 30s
chelsea are gonna need more rebuilding than united. the only area’s where united need to buy is propably a striker a GK. And if valencia and nani cant work in the same team a wide player will be needed. while chelsea will need more than united.

  138. Gee says:

    @ King Eric

Tell me about it, I just cant get my head round the hatred for us mate. I mean we havent killed any fans in a european game or tried to buy success with a sugar daddy!! we have been built from the ground up into the biggest team in the world, with hard work and dedication and we might not be a team playing out of the capital but neither is Barca, Juve or both Milan sides yet they only get slated for playing shit by their media, we win and still get shit for it. Its like they hate us coz the likes of (The) Best, Law and Charlton dont play football anymore and its Utd’s fault, coz thats the last time I can see that the media actually got behind Utd. It’s that or the fact SAF is the greatest manager to have ever lived but the media cant love his team coz he is scottish. Pathetic!!

  139. King Eric says:

Gee – Jealousy mate, thats all it is. The day people STOP talking about United is the day to be worried.

rtnk – Yet ANOTHER abu piece by the guardian. Great posts by the way mate. Alot of United fans in the comments section have put the cunt in his place.

willierednut – Why what did Stan say pal? I remember him clear as day prior to kick off at the JJB back in September. He basically said we were fucked and would struggle to score goals. 90 minutes later we had bagged FIVE. Then after we hammered West Ham at Upton Park (no pun intended) he was saying that not ONE United midfielder would get in the Rentboys team. A large slice of humble pie for you Stan.

  140. Lung420 says:

Do you think SAF would really take joe cole if he leaves chelsea

  141. Fred says:

Yes, of course he would. Fergie is well known to be an admirer of Joe Cole since his West Ham days, when Ferguson said Cole was the greatest English talent since Gascoigne.

  142. King Eric says:

Used to be a big fan of Joe Cole and maybe he could get fit again at United but from what I have seen he just does not look the same player .

  143. redscot says:

@ Fred said and yes the Alkie, Numptie, went to the Spuds. And went in too free fall from there on.
Joe Cole is class, but as has been said on here, injury prone,. ? Joe or J Sunk KRAP. unispired/
