Fabio da Silva has joined QPR on a season-long loan on the same day his brother signed a new four-year contract at United.
“I’m so happy to be here,” said Fabio. “This loan is so important for me in terms of my career. I want to play as many games as possible here. I want to play well and win games as well. It’s a good move for my career and for my confidence. Sir Alex Ferguson said that I’d enjoy it here and told me to play as many games as I can.”

Good luck to Fabio. Since he’s going out on loan, we’re most certainly getting Baines right? I’m not too displeased with that. Only thing, Fabio could have provided us more cover for the right back position. We’re down to only Rafael and Jones there.
I find it surprising that we are sending Fabio out. I’ve always rated him highly and it was widely accepted that he is the more talented of the twins. The need to play captain Evra in every game caused the poor chap’s downfall. I personally look at Fabio as the new Dennis Irwin- right footed left back who can play at right back if needed. He has all the makings of an ace full back. I really hope he’ll be back next season to cement his place in United’s starting line-up.

as much as i love evra, the way he talks about the club, every interview he does us proud, but and yes i am going to say this, ‘for footballing reasons’ in my opinion last season he struggled a lot, he played too many games and did not perform in quite a large number of those games but somehow still survived in the team which i think is due to a lack of quality and EXPERIENCED left backs in our squad. Also theres an question about competition, surely we need two quality left backs to compete with eachother to bring the best out of them?
and yes i am suggesting baines because he has proven he had the ability and quality to do well for us, dennis irwin springs to mind, great left back with dead ball abilities.

Look at how well and fast Rafael has progressed once he started getting full games under his belt. It’s definitely a need that has to be addressed. It’s long overdue. For me the ideal solution to the problem this summer would have been to keep Fabio, Fryers and De Laet around in order to have plenty of cover for both full back berths. That way, we could use the Baines money to buy a defensive midfielder. But in all likelyhood, none of these 3 youngsters will be around next season. So buying a new left back or a full back that plays in either position is a must now. It’s completely inconceivable for me that we will go into the season with just Evra. He could stay fit all season, but it’s become crystal clear that the lack of competition has forced him to regress.
Wow. Someone looks miserable. Can’t say I’m pleased about loaning him out to that pathetic team, but it will help him improve.

I agree with you on the need for another left back and Baines quite frankly is a good fit. However, the little issue here is the fee which is being quoted. You would quite agree that 17 million for a soon to be 28 year old left back is too much especially when we have great need for midfield enforcement.

Why do we need a new CM, because most games which we have lost the past 2-3 seasons, we have done so because our midfield has been overrun. Not because we had a poor defence or attack. Even with Vida injured almost the entirety of last season, or defence was still solid and now he is back, it is even more solid. Our attack ofcourse is blessed with talent of whom I need not mention. But our midfield has been shit for ages. That is why our 37 year old retired midfielder had to come out of retirement and still that wasn’t enough. Comeon, everybody knows our midfield is the weaklink and I cannot honestly believe any match watching united fan would think otherwise.
Also, the fact that we may have overpaid for Young does not mean we should also overpay for Baines. That is not sound Logic is it? And Baines would not even walk into the first X1. If he comes, he would still sit on the bench behind Evra so why spend 17million on that when you have other priorities to fulfil? You say that Kagawa would start behind Rooney and Welbeck and then Scholes will start with Carrick, but what formation is that?. Surely, you cant start Kagawa, and then 2 midfielders, and then two strikers. Aren’t there gonna be wingers in the team? Its also common knowledge Kagawa cant play best in a two man midfield. So obviously we need another midfielder to use in a 4-2-3-1 or a 4-3-3. So you see my friend, that is why we shouldn’t be forced to overpay for an aging left back just because he is English.
My ideal situation would be to sign a new midfielder first and then we can pursue Baines if such money is available.

@Zibbie, yes he has but Powell isn’t one for the first team now is he? Expect him to be in the reserves and then come into first team picture maybe next season at best. Good signing that one if you ask me, but a new midfielder ready to play in the first XI is also needed.

I doubt if that signing would be pursued. There’s been alot of names being thrown around, Modric, Felaini, Strootman, more recently Moutinho e.t.c. I do not presume to have more knowledge about suitable targets that the United scouting team so I will leave the naming to them, but my point is that we should buy a CM before we spend 17million on an aging left back.

It will become an issue if no one else is brought in I am afraid. What’s our back up plan at the moment? Evans? I am not sure how comfortable he would be at left back. Imagine him going up against someone as quick as Walcott. We’ll see. Even during the Neville-Irwin days, we never went into a season with just 2 natural full backs and I sincerely hope that’s the case again.
