PICTURE: Mosaic For Scholes Testimonial

Paul Scholes approached Stretford End Flags about designing a mosaic for his own testimonial. They canvassed United fans’ ideas and from those submitted a design was presented to Paul. The SEF mosaic will go all along North Stand Lower and the 18,000 cards will make up an image of Paul’s face, along with the wording “GENIUS”, with a faint number 18 outlining the IU to reflect Paul’s shirt number. As humble as ever, Paul asked “Genius, where has that come from!”.

The tickets are sold out for tomorrow night’s game against New York Cosmos. RoM is giving away two tickets, three row from the front, later today.

    That he is.

  2. Fred says:

“Genius? Where has that come from?” Scholesy thinks SEF are a bunch of cunts too.

    20LEGEND – clever. :) GEN18S – erm, no. :|

  3. smartalex says:

    Genius.

  4. Balaji Sivaraman says:

Oh God, I cannot wait for Scholesy’s autobiography.

Edwin’s testimonial yesterday and Scholesy’s tomorrow. I will feel as old as Cedars by the time Giggs retires.

I know I said this long before: But I had an Excel game where you could type names and it would give you their professions. I typed Paul Scholes and the XL file gave me God. Either it was completely random or the person who came up with the XL macro was a United fan. Anyways, it was an absolutely fitting description even from a computer software.

    Thread Overload!

Somehow, I seriously doubt that “Scholes approached SEF about designing a mosaic for his testimonial.”

More like, Scholes’ PR camp, but what do I know, spent 20 years watching the genious ply his trade and say bugger all to the media. Since his retirement, he’s a god damn quote machine.

Opinons on the banner aside, it’ll be a chilling feeling when those 18,000 cards go up.

    :(

  6. Dave Malaysia says:

    Nice. Full house too,brilliant.

  7. Balaji Sivaraman says:

@ididnotzeeit, Scott must be wondering: “You wanted threads and I obliged. Now you are complaining about thread overload.” We are hard to please, aren’t we?

  8. ididnotzeeit says:

    @ Balaji

That’s hilarious! But let’s be honest, you just have to be a fan of ooty to make that association.

@ididnotzeeit – “Somehow, I seriously doubt that “Scholes approached SEF about designing a mosaic for his testimonial.””

LOL my thoughts exactly. Hard to imagine even the most arrogant of players (e.g. Titi Henry, John Terry) requesting a huge mosaic in their own honour, let alone someone as humble as our Scholesy.

Shame EDW1N didn’t get these creative geniuses to knock something up for his game. Hoping to see a testimonial for 6ROWN and O’S22A next year.

  11. Clint-IamYourPapii says:

Genius he is…..they could of done better though….would like to scholes talk through a microphone to the whole of OT like Edwin did.

Its sad and good to see Real United supporters like Gary Neville and Scholes live the dream and retire at United. They are one of us and maintained that status their whole career to let it remain they are our equals as people and supporters.

    Love Scholes Unconditionally

  18. FletchTHEMAN says:

Brilliant all around. Amazing that Paul started this?! Hardly believe that part of the story, but then Paul is one in a million. Love the mosaic all the same.

okey, so completely off-topic but I know you all are eager to listen to my first ever united game which I attended last weekend against FC Messi. I travelled 1300 miles to see we play… it goes like this.

First I went to legends meet at fado pub in washington DC, where I met gary, Cole and Paddy. Neville told me to lose some weight, for which paddy asked him to fuck-off and see at his tummy drinking all guiness for last 6 months. had autograph from all of them…. when I came out side the pub, I saw they were still there as their car didnt arrive, Paddy literally pulled me near to him and told me, how are you young man. I was dumbfounded by his humbleness, guy is a legend.

On second day of training, had chance to see all of our player see train, then came the autograph session, I hanged my united flag and one-by-one (in this order) Park, Vidic, Nani, Berbatov, Rooney, Giggs, Evra, Owen came and signed the flag!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! somehow I managed not to get rooney’s sign on my devoted flag and the old man giggsy missed signing on my flag (must have been looking at sign only pretty ladies in the stands) also, I was leaning too forward to get any of the player for photograph, my sunglasses dropped on field, berbatov picked it up, wore it and said, “nice pair, can I keep it??”… I said “Yes Mitkoooooooooooooo”, he said, ha ha kidding, and he gave me back!!!! thats was so awesome, sad could get a pic of that….

On the day of match, I went to meet my friend staying in the same hotel (didnt know at that time though) and what I see is I bumped with Mr Berbatov in escalator, I reminded him of what yesterday happened!!! he laughed!!!, also saw sir alex standing alone may be drawing formations against barca, I casually asked “sir, who are we playing today” he looked at me like I am rooney requesting for a trasfer to city. lesson learnt – never try talk to Sir alex when he is with a pad and pen… met silva bros too in lobby..

on game day, got a chance to shake hands with nani and he also scored the first goal!!! that was so cool. stadium was full of latinas cheering for barcelona game,we started to give barca plenty of space to move and I feared worst when they scored, but we were good and I almost lost my voice when we scored. believe me, seeing close, barcelona looks more cheaters and divers than anyother team, wonder why they need to do that when they got so much talent, but then we also see nani going down so easily…

in all an awesome first united game, thinking of writing a blog-post on whole experience in detail.

    Old King Scholes was a scary old soul, and he scored great goals did he;

He scored for United, in the middle on the night,
and he scored for the lions three.

    Every middler had a fine middle, and a very fine middle had we;

Oh there’s none so rare as can compare, as King Scholes set the middle free.

  86. Stretford End Flags says:

Incidentally, Stretford End Flags is run by several people, not just one person.
All Manchester United fans are welcome to come on the the SEF websiite forum and submit ideas.
The ideas from new banners, mosaics etc come from you, not from any individual.
Currently SEF are looking for a long banner idea to honour Sir Alex Ferguson’s 25 years at Manchester United and seek YOUR ideas.
SEF will also be co-ordinating large 2 stick flags to go in the stands at the bigger home games/Euro games and we encourage supporters, branches, fan sites etc to make their own large 2 stick flags to add to the colour at Old Trafford.
The Paul Scholes mosaic was approved by Paul Scholes himself, as was the Gary Neville Mosaic. gary Neville even came out to meet the lads laying out the cards on each seat for his testimonial.
Remember, SEF is about YOU, the Manchester United fans, so get your thinking caps on and submit some ideas!!!

  87. Fred says:

I’ve got just the idea, Tufty. See if you can somehow incorporate the number 25 into Fergie’s name.

  88. willierednut says:

    Fuck off tufty! Lol.
