Stretford End Flags have been working on a new banner for the Stretford End, which incorporates the old Wonderfuel Gas advert as well as honouring United legend, Ryan Giggs. His squad number would be used within the design in spelling out wonderfu11 (ignoring of course that there is only one ‘L’ in wonderful!) with memories of the “wonderful run from Giggs” commentary after scoring the greatest goal the FA Cup has ever seen in the semi-final replay in 1999. However, there has been talking of keeping it simple and sticking with “Wonderfuel Giggs” instead.
A big thumbs up from me on this one. This is the second good design idea recently. Keep up the good work!

The Wording “Wonderfuel” cannot be used due to copyright and advertising issues.
Given that “Wonderfuel” adds in an extra “E” to give it the relevant effect, adding in a “1″ and using a “1″ to create the other “L” gives it some of the same relevance and incoprates Giggs squad number. (We are well aware Wonderful is spelt with one “L”!!!!).

As bchilds pointed out, “WONDERFUL” is the correct spelling, not “WONDERFULL!” I take it Giggsy is intending to settle at 11 titles then, is he? Or could it read “WONDERFU12 GIGGS” next season? Let’s hope so, eh?
Absolutely laughable effort. Even worse than the notorious “MORE GOALS PLEASE” at the start of the 08/09 season.

Incase you havent notice, Giggs shirt number is 11.
The 11 gives nothing to how many titles Giggs has won.
The spelling of “Wonderfuel” added in an extra “E” for the puropse of the slogan, in the same way that adding “11″ does to this.
The “More Goals Please” was a marketing ad for Nike, done by Nike and paid for by Nike, who used it to promote their new range of footballs. On the opening day of the season every match programme in the Prem League carried an advert for the ball and “More Goals Please” and every team that was sponsored by Nike had some form of fans involvement advert within the stadium, some had big surfer flags, others had t-shirts, Nike used a mosaic at United.
Stretford End Flags had no involvement in Nikes advertising, Nikes mosaic etc.
As for the “Get stuck in” idea, its needs to be suggested on the SEF forum as an idea.
I’ve had a ‘mare there, missing the point that the 11 represents Giggsy’s shirt number.
It’s still crap though.

I used to stand in the Paddock and even I dont remember “WONDERFUEL GAS”.
Surely we can come up with something better than that ?

It would be really appropriate to have something for Sir Alex soon.
I have the feeling he will be retiring before we know it – I think he will announce it at the end of his last season, not at the beginning and he deserves to enjoy it for a bit from his dugout – so to speak. it could be at the end of the season.
I am pretty convinced that he will retire as soon as he has either won another Champions League or one more Premier League. If that is this year then dont be surprised.
Whether we like him or not, you can bet the house that Sir Alex has already given Mourinho the nod and that is why he turned down City.
Time will tell.
Banners are only allowed on the Stretford End.
The older banners are on the back wall above the last row of seats in The Stretford End tier 2. With the original (faded) One Love Stretford End banner being hung up in the tier 2 concourse.
More of the older banners will go up in the concourses.
The “Manchester Is My Heaven” banner shold be up for the Leeds cup game, its now been completed.
I think it’s a fantastic idea, we need something to acknowledge Ryan’s achievements and this banner looks great, I got the idea of the 11 as his shirt number straight away and given the educational knowledge of most of the opposition fans at OT, I doubt they’d see the miss spelling.
Also thanks for the pics of the old Stretford End, I can see the spot I first stood on as a young kid in the Paddock, in the same place my father and Grandfather stood before me.
