PICTURE: Torres Should Have Been Sent Off

Wherever you stand on whether Fernando Torres should have been given a second yellow card for diving this afternoon, there can be little disagreement with the fact Torres should have received his marching orders earlier on for this brutal foul on Tom Cleverley.

This incident took place in the first half and had Cleverley gone to ground and rolled around on the floor with a pained expression (as Torres did just before he got sent off) it would have been an easy red card for the referee to produce.

Beware of the backlash in the cup match in midweek they will be looking to humiliate Utd. but boy they do play some nice football these days at the bridge, and many teams will suffer there

Malicious tackle is a red card definetely.

Cunt clipped his own heels at Analfield a couple of years ago and got Evra sent off. What goes around comes around ya cock munchin rent boy.

Di Matteo: “Everything went United’s way”.

  11. Marq says:

    Special mention to Young

    1) Took up a good forward position leading up to our first goal

    2) Pulled Cahill away from Rvp for our second goal

    3) Made a good run behind Ivanovic for his red card

    4) Totally prevented Ivanovic from coming forwad

    5) Covered behind Evra time & again

Yes he gave the ball away at times, which the whole team was guilty of, but sure as hell he made a difference

A Picture is worth a thousand words, eh?

I’d love some comment on Di Matteo trying to drag Valencia back when he was trying to take throw on too. Manager putting his hands on an opposition player? Perfect man for the Chelsea dug out.

  15. Sushi says:

Marq i agree young did very well! you couldn’t even tell he was out of the side for so long seemed to fit right back in. Evra was horrible and young did his best to cover. I was impressed by rooney as well except for his stupid tackle but he looked much more fit. Van persie…well he speaks for himself really lol and CHico too was superb

  16. Jesmonta - Malta says:

No One mentioned Ramires. He did not get a yellow card but did many dangerous fouls.

  17. Sushi says:

@ 07 yeah man i saw that too couldn’t believe it at first! fucking idiot that Di Matteo its so pathetic how he tries to actually look like hes important when we all know Roman and terry hand him the team sheet every week haha

  18. thedonmassawe says:

Oh, how I would love to win the league, by exactly one point, over Chelsea this year!

  19. denton davey says:

Marq @ 20:13: “Special mention to Young”

I second that. I was pissed when I saw that he was in the starting eleven BUT he was just terrific today – in the five ways you mention and his overall play was crisp and quick – which, alas, wouldn’t have been the product we would have had with Nani on the pitch. Today was Ashley Young’s best match in the red shirt. He and Valencia were playing narrower and TheWayneBoy/Cleverley were also clogging up the middle – great game-plan from SAF.

About Torres’ kick – absolute, stone-wall red. D’ya think that Clattenburg was making up for that mistake when he booked/red-carded him for diving ?

  20. LoneStarRed says:

That photo says it all. The ABU are whining, let’s send them some ripe cheese to match it.

  21. Gopher Brown says:

I thought Ashley Young was our weak link today. He had some great movement, but he was constantly giving the ball away, and when he did find a United player it was always a hospital pass which lost possession.

  22. Ice Cube says:

Great win. Its about time we got a couple of decisions. I still don’t get fergie, he takes cleverly off and when he put Giggs on, I almost went home. Glad i didnt, but when will he see giggs isn’t up to it. Its just crazy. Chico was a great sub tho.

  23. Gandalf says:

Excellent post scott. That was a ridiculous tackle and might have done some damage too.

#07 – too right, I was appalled by matteo’s unprofessional behavior – imagine if our player has retaliated and had a go at him, we’d have been in trouble. rentboy manager was clearly looking for an altercation there. Shameful man. I was just beginning to think that he conducts himself well in the press conf’s and things.

  24. Brendan says:

Tom cleverley was the worst player on the park, gave so much ball away was bad all through the game.

  25. Proverb says:

Brendan what game were you watching

  26. Proverb says:

Was a hard test for Clev but he didn’t look out of place. Works hard. Doesn’t have the experience others do, but time will change that.

  27. SHINJI THE NINJA says:

So good to see all the players putting in a shift – some had a better day than others but they ALL put in a shift today and it has been a LONG time since I was able to say that.

Massively important result today – You sensed that there was a big shift in attitude and ambition and that is fantastic.

De Gea was superb today in particular and RVP showed AGAIN that he does it in big games and when it really matters.
Love Chicharito too – He was either “technically” offside – Or just in the wrong place at the right time !

  28. Sunny says:

About Chicarito’s goal coming from offside – it was identical to Arsenal’s winner two hours earlier.

  29. Cadelin says:

Fantastic result and loved the way we rammed it down the rent boy fans throats.
Every time Rio touched the ball they all booed !
So his brother gets racially abused by their scumbag “talisman” and as a result they boo him ??
As bad as the Bin Dippers booing Pat every time he touched the ball after the Racist goofy diver victimised him.
    Brainless morons !
Thought Rio had a great game today, spraying passes around like Scholesy.
Bring on Arsey Whinger and his shot shy shower next Saturday !!!

  30. matt says:

I’m actually enjoying the bitterness of the ABUs.. some of them sound so angry I can actually imagine them punching walls.

    fuck em

  31. Den says:

The referee was bad! But the only reason why people say he was in favor of United is because we won, and they got red cards. The Torres decision was debatable, maybe, but like this post says he should have been off much earlier. Hernandez was offside that is true but it was very very close. We should have had a penalty but the linesman chose to ignore what he must have seen. Valencia got a yellow card for a dive witch was not the right decision. In the first half they also got a handful of free kicks on a silver platter from the referee.

Yeah he was not good but he was never in favor of us! Good 3 points! Hope you all have your whinging filters on this week!

  32. KVN says:

Fantastic performance from both teams. Just would have liked to have seen United push their numerical advantage when they went down to 9 players. I still think we need another CM player who is a powerhouse. As Chelsea pushed and pushed. Glad we got 3 points and closed the gap. But there is still a lot of work to do.

  33. ak47 says:

    1) Never a second yellow. If there is contact it cannot be a dive. Technically a foul and should’ve been a free kick to Chelsea, with a yellow card to Evans

    2) I’m rather disturbed that his first yellow card is deemed worthy of only a yellow. If one’s studs end up in another ones stomach whilst they’re standing up – i think it’s safe to say he was endangering an opponent whilst using excessive force.

Mr Clattenburg had a lot of tough calls to make – most of which he got wrong. The shirt pulling on Jonny Evans by Cahill every time he was up for a corner was shocking.

  34. Hans says:

For Chelsea supporters: What goes around, comes around.
They never complain when decisions go their way, and quite a few have gone their way against us not too long ago, so they should just accept it an move on.

As the photo shows, Torres should have seen red long before he actually did. Look at his reaction when he fell down. It takes about 1 second before he starts screaming like a sissy. Probably he realised Rio would be first to that ball, and he decided to make a meal out of minimal contact that there may have been, if any. Then Evans never touched his knee, he went on holding it!!!! Clattenburg saw that and he did what he had to do.

Finally, Arsenal won their match yesterday from much clearer offside position, and I did not see a media outrage for it yesterday or today.

    Fuck off ABU brigade!!!!

PS I am enjoying more streams in languages that I cannot understand, rather than ABU bastards in the British Media. At one point Sky commentator was referring to Chelse’a Player as ’9 Chelsea’ heroes?!!!!! for what? Aren’t they meant to be impartial? Listening to Radio 5 606 after the match, my car radio nearly burned out from the heat and steam that was coming from Alan Green. Has he got no shame at all?

As for rent boy’s chants about referee being paid by us, that pathetic. Where Mr Abramovich comes from that is a regular occurrence, so if anybody would pay them it would be rather them than us.

PSS I am still disappointed that we did not go on to kill them properly and scoring more. Then the talk about the offside goal would have been purely academic. Also both of their goals were avoidable. While Valencia had very good first twenty minutes, sometimes he makes wrong decisions or delays crosses needlessly. At 2:0 up we had a couple of situations that could and should have brought the third goal!!

Cant wait for Saturday. Will be at NE Quadrant !!!!!

  35. ak47 says:

oh the irony!!! Chelsea make a complaint to the Premier League over “inappropriate language” used by the ref….I mean i’ve never seen a Chelsea player say swear at a ref….or for that matter end the career of one due to their actions causing moronic chelsea fans to send death threats.

I thought the bin dippers were scum, these rentboys take it to new levels. Death threats, singing “you know what you are” after the racism incident, booing the brother of the victim of racism…. fucking brilliant

  36. AntiScouser says:

This was a bizzare game, to say the least. Having done 2-0 down in no time, I expected Chelsea to get back in the game, which they did. We played a considerable portion of the game poorly again and could have given away more than 2 goals. Some people praise Ashley Young, but all I saw were misplaced passes and lack of top level skill. Took up a good forward position leading up to our first goal? Are you for fucking real, this is what he gets credit for? Joke.

Chelsea shouldn’t have gone down to 10 men, let alone 9. It was harsh and unnecessary, and we would have protesed vehemently had it been our players. Had they had 11 men, they would have easily won. Should I say “Well done for playing cowardly against 9 men and scoring a goal from an offside position”? I won’t.

  37. markg says:

a great team game every player didn’t let the player playing beside them down

  38. Dela says:

    @AntiScouser

Chelsea shouldn’t have went down to ten? I concede that the Torres second yellow was harsh, but ivanovic took young out and denied a clear goal scoring opportunity, even Di Matteo said he didn’t have an issue with it, it’s a straight red. Torres shouldn’t have been on the pitch to get a second yellow in the first place.

As for Ashley Young, I thought for his first game back today – and considering the venue – he did brilliantly, he was a threat to Chelsea and they knew it. He should have scored the third goal, they had to take a red card to stop him. As for the passes, here’s how I see it. We see the passes that United players try that don’t come off sometimes. Typically they are all forward passes and they are cut out, or fall short or too far… but here’s the deal..

They are the kind of passes that maybe only 1 out of 5 actually come off, but when they do, it’s a chance. It doesn’t always work, but when it does, we’re in on goal. That’s why they keep trying them because over the course of 90 mins, a few are going to work. Besides, we were at stamford bridge today, against a team that stopped barcelona last year, and also Munich, even though they were under serious pressure. The fact that they cut out passes and made it uncomfortable for us comes down to that fact. We didn’t play all that badly today. To be fair to them, Mata’s free kick was lovely and so was Ramires’ header.. I think it was Cleverley he totally got the better of??? They are a threat, esp. at Stamford Bridge.

We could be playing better than we are but there are signs that we’re well on our way. We’re not alone stumbling out of the blocs, City are hanging onto results by the skin of their teeth at the moment, Arsenal are shocking in defence again too. Last year we had a spectacular start to the season, that turned ugly right away, and then picked up to an awesome height, and then completely collapsed lol so I’m not to concerned about our beginning of the season form, we’re second a point off top, top scorers and we’re a point off last 16 in Europe. :-)

  39. Adefest07 says:

They yell and complain about refree and FA when they played poorly and when some decision went against them. What about David Luiz’s Valencia hand ball inside the box and right infront of the ssistant ref? Chica was not in an offside possition. They tried to keep him but for a sharp boy he is. They should remember their so many offside goals last season, where 4 of chelsea players were in offside possition against the latics.

  40. Wee Toms Ligaments says:

    @Antiscouser

You can only use the term “we” when referring to the team you support. Please stop pretending to support United. Your constant criticism is rather quite pathetic at this stage.

  41. fran lynch says:

I taught we were a bit lucky today wit decisions but our midfield is shambolic as is our defence carrick and co keep making hospital passes and rvp cant keep gettin us out of trouble

  42. 3redstars says:

Great photo redangel. Commentator for Fox Soccer in US claimed David Luiz’ arms were behind his body. Bullshit! Torres should have been off for the kick to Clevs. This handball was a clear penalty. Press needs to take a breath.

  43. Dela says:

@Wee Toms Ligaments –> I think there’s a strange belief amount younger Manchester United fans that we’ve traditionally been an unstoppable team, that we had close to 100% pass completion every game, that we won almost every game convincingly and so on. But of course we all know thats bullshit. Alex Ferguson understands that only one thing matters, and that’s the result. Whether its down to the game, or the league, when the fat lady sings, whether you are on top or not is what counts.

There were seasons in the Premier League history where Liverpool seemed destined to win the league convincingly, but United had a habit of stealing their thunder at the end of the day. Then there was the Arsenal rivalry. Remember a period around 10 years ago where we couldn’t get a result against Liverpool, ever? Until DIEGO stepped up and made the scousers cry :P That had such an effect on us that its still sung frequently by United fans. I think the younger supporters came along at the start of the Ronaldo dominance of the league so they think that three year period represents what we’ve always been like, but it’s just not the case (and besides, we didn’t exactly light the world on fire in parts of those season either). So ye, that’s what I put a lot of the moaning and groaning on here down to. We have, unfortunately, plenty of fans now who almost analyse every frame of the game for mistakes and get on players backs right away. When they watch United, they ONLY see bad. When they watch other teams, they ONLY see good.

    That’s sad.!

  44. Adam says:

@Dela, Yes, it was Cleverly who was overpowered on that Ramires header.

  45. NYDUDE says:

    Fcuk me’!!!!!

  46. Pebblesmeller says:

Dela, I couldn’t agree more. This was our first win in 10 years down at Chelski, rightly or wrongly, (Brown being fouled from a free kick that never should have been andChelsea scoring from an offside position anyone?) things have not gone our way.
I thought Rio was class and his tackle from behind led to one of our first half goals and I felt that DeGea kept us in it when we were under severe pressure towards the end of the first half.
Having said all that, if I was a Chelski supporter this evening I would be fuming.
That makes it all the better.

  47. GHred says:

Great result. We had the rub of the green today, but we were long overdue it, weren’t we? Btw antiscouser saidcos we played a.young we’d be well beaten. But cos he hasn’t nay shame, he’s come back talking bollocks. Pls ignore him cos he CANNOT be a utd fan

  48. giggs11 says:

… not to mention WE SHOULD HAVE BEEN AWARDED A PENALTY for abs. CLEAR HANDBALL of that hairy no-man … / they can cry what they want!

  49. Redharry4life says:

Hans brilliant point about the Ladyboy rolling about holding his knee when the little if any contact was with his foot. There was a view from behind Clattenberg of the incident and it looks like the Ladyboy does throw himself down.

Ramirez must have had about 5-6 fouls all afternoon didn’t get booked.

Mikel should have got a 2nd yelolw and hence a red at the end when he fouled Valencia instead a foul to the chavs

Where oh where is Roubles Atkinson when you need a chelsea favouring ref?

  50. Pebblesmeller says:

I was just looking at it again and I think if Torres had stayed up he had the run on Rio. Maybe, either way it looks tight but from the refs position it does look like Torres went down easily. There is no doubt however that Evans touched his shin but the ref could not have seen it.
Looking at the next 7 games, bar Arsenal at home, the rest look fairly routine and should be 3 points all the way.

  51. Redharry4life says:

If and when Clattenberg is found not guilty of these false accusations will the players invloved get a good lenghty suspension like Evra did?

    Will Chelsea be docked points?

No matter how we gripe about refs and their poor decesions our refs only domnthe best job they can. They have to make split second decesion.

Talk about being bad losers? The offside decesion – Chico was hidden behind Cech/Loos so the linesman couldn’t see and Clattenberg did not have a clear view so he gave, rightly, the advantage to the attacking team.

  52. Sushi says:

what exactly have they reported the ref for? what he say?

  53. Ted says:

Didn’t Evans pretty much make an identical challenge against Drogba in 2010? And yes I realise in that match we were pretty jammy with the free kick/offside goal, but point still stands I feel.

  54. Ted says:

http://m24digital.com/en/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/Evans-Drogba.jpg add that to your picture collection ;) . Seriously speaking though, there’s little point getting het up about it. We’ve had the rub of the green in recent seasons against you, even this season against Reading we scored a clear offside goal. It is frustrating, but it’s part of being a football fan…Having said that, hope we get revenge in the League Cup!

  55. Arthur "Two Sheds" Jackson says:

That the majority of football commentators are ABUs was evidenced by how much whining and moaning went on after the Chelsea game. Sweet mother, you’d think that Sir Alex ran over the puppies with his car, they’re so mad!

  56. LUFCWhite says:

I’m surprised Clattenburg didn’t give ‘Clevz’ a red for having the audacity to be fouled.

  57. Den says:

This makes me sick, the daily fails match report, they added this to it a few minutes ago:

“Games as good as this should be decided by a moment of magic, a sliver of sublime skill, an act of bravery or great daring.
Sadly, Manchester United won here courtesy of one of the worst performances by a referee in Premier League history.
In fact, make that the worst. Even without the incredible allegations that followed, Mark Clattenburg had already lowered the bar.
For while some may recall the odd match that plumbed murkier depths of ineptitude, Clattenburg’s display was such a hellish combination of incompetence and arrogance that it warped the narrative of the match and, perhaps, the title race.
These things even themselves out over a season? Really, do they? So Chelsea can recover three points the next time Manchester United visit Stamford Bridge in the Premier League this season, can they? Or was this their only chance?
Alternative outcomes are purely hypothetical and maybe United would have won even without the travesty that was the second Chelsea dismissal, or the winning goal that was plainly offside. But few impartial observers would have supported that bet with total confidence.
At the time Branislav Ivanovic was sent off for fouling Ashley Young, United had passed the previous 50 minutes without a noteworthy attempt on goal.
Within five minutes the home team were reduced to nine by a false judgment that left them to overcome insurmountable odds, and from that point there was only one winner”

    and then:

“In the 45th minute, Clattenburg booked Fernando Torres for a high, reckless challenge on Tom Cleverley that some feel was worth more. The replays looked painful for the young man, but also revealed a genuine, if misguided attempt on Torres’s part to win the ball. A yellow card seemed fair.”

A yellow card seemed fair!? The fucking fucker that fucking wrote this shit makes me so fucking mad! And I shouldn’t even be mad because United won! But this “journalism” from the daily mail just wrecks my day! Fucking disgusting piece of writing!

  58. Den says:

    and this:

“His desperate attempt found only Rafael, however, who drilled a shot into the area to be turned in by Javier Hernandez. If the sense of injustice inside Stamford Bridge was already palpable it exploded when replays showed Hernandez standing in an offside position when Rafael shot.
He was almost on the goal-line, level with Cech at best, but behind every blue shirt. It was not a difficult offside for a linesman to spot. To be fair, Lemon Jefferson could have taken a fair swing at it. Using Ray Charles’s spectacles.
At this point it is customary to trot out the cliche about refereeing being an impossible job and its protagonists deserving of sympathy. No it isn’t and no they aren’t.”

How is he allowed to write this? Saying it was an easy to see the offside! I’m fucking off now!

3 points, all that matters! Later!

  59. WeAreUnited says:

Den don’t mind, we suffer from media, but we are ManUtd and we’ll do what we want.

Great teams are always ripped off.

We didn’t get a penalty“`?? why? Why torres wasn’t sent off earlier?? why.

the goals was offside, but is it really our fault for scoring? no, blame the referee. Arsenal had an offside goal, nobody cared.

if we supporters stick together we will come good.

    BTW.

Today showed the greatness of our supporters over here, we sticked so good together and got behind the team, it’s admirable!

    UNITED. NO MATTER WHAT:

  60. Hans says:

From Daily Mail: ‘Mikel, who was booked for dissent during the game, is believed to have confronted Clattenburg in the referee’s room after the game’.

WTF is Mikel doing in the referee’s room after the game?

  61. Tonka Norris says:

Bye bye Stamford Bridge. Hello 3 points. It seems like only last month we lamented poor decisions costing us points there and now the decisions come our way.

Behind us comes a lot of noise but it doesn’t change anything. Tough shit Chelsea.

On a separate note I see another referee coming to grief after a Chelsea loss. Death threats and such seem to follow these things. One even quit after the abuse he got from Chelsea fans. Given that the conversation is heard by 3 other officials there should be a quick resolution to this odious charge. I just hope there’s still an appetite to prosecute Chelsea for the missiles thrown.

  62. stepgen says:

    Marq says:

Not to mention Mikel impeding Valencia late in the game which the ref somehow saw differently

ref blew for foul on valencia, realised it was mickel who did it and would have had to send him off too so chickened out and booked valencia for a dive

  63. Mufc19 says:

My old man told me 20 years ago that the press was anti united…an it’s still the same now

  64. dhkim2 says:

Points are points, but don’t know how anyone can claim this wasn’t a tainted match. Bias shows loyalty, but wow…

  65. Unitedforeva says:

We all remember that offsite Drogba goal that won them their last title, so what are these rentboys squabbling about? They are here in this forum, one is antiscouser.

  66. WeAreUnited says:

watch this highlight of the game

    http://footyroom.com/chelsea-2-3-manchester-united-2012-10/

and 2.15 where the ball struck in luiz’s hand, commentary says it’s no way a penalty, hishands were too close in the body.

WHAT THE FUCK??? we got ripped off , MURebel would call it karma , that’s why we scored from an offside goal. And it’s not only that, if we remember thheir offside goals etc.

    oooo robin van peeeersiiieee

    chiiiicharito!!!

  67. Mr C says:

3 points away at the home of a major title challenger. Not a perfect display by any means but so what? We fully deserved to go 2-0 up. Yes Chelsea did well to come back but they only have to blame themselves for going down to 9 men on account of their cheating Chavez ways. Tough. p.s. Chico was not offside either.

  68. Mr C says:

whoops I meant cheating chav ways….

  69. Marq says:

Haha, I really like to hear from those who slate incidents of Young contributing to our downfall. Funny how they could only say he played badly but couldn’t point out which instance, guess haters will only hate

  70. Marq says:

Anyway like I said, the only bad calls in the game were

    1) Not sending off Torres for that kick (Trying to mask it saying it was unintentional is a joke, you don’t have to be intentional to get sent off, reckless is reckless)

    2) Hernandez’s offside goal (Arsenal scored an identical goal yesterday, why no mention?)

    3) Mikel not getting sent off (Ref booked Valencia for diving? He sure a huge dive jumping over the back of Mikel)

So a wrong offside goal is deemed to be a worst performance in the history? They’d do well to look at Drogba’s goal against us. That was a much worst decision. Hell, even Liverpool’s last min goal that was chalked off against Everton earlier in the day was a worse decision

  71. chicha chicha says:

Chelski’s karma for all their diving antics in the past.
    Hihihi… WE WON !!!
    Happy Birthday Roman A.
Next up the League Cup against Chelski.
Scholesy and Powell to score wonder volleys.
    YEAH

  72. Sushi says:

ABU morons just go back and watch all the negative comments about DDG. apparently now the excuse is hes not a proper keeper because he chose to save shots with his feet must be a fucking joke!
I swear they will make anything up, go back and see it “I swear he saved more with his feet than his hands”

Vultures all of them, just love to see the failure of some kid.

  73. Ash says:

Look chavs can keep on blaming the refs but 3 points we got. End of story. Having said that I feel we should have scored more. From the moment we scored the 3rd goal we were playing safe. We were playing safe from 75th min against a 9 man. I don’t like that. We had a great opportunity to thrash those chavs at their own turf and we missed that.
Ivanovic red card was similar to evans against city last year. I didnt see us or the media complaining then. It was a clear red card and Ivanovic himself knew that. Torres’s one was debatable but its his fault as he has earned a reputation as a diver. But still refs should avoid handing simple red cards in big matches. It spoils the game badly.
Speaking of off side goal, Yeah it was but it was no way a clear off side like some pundit are making especially that cunt steve Mcmahon who is a pundit for espn. He hates united. He barely reacted when arsenal scored from an offside position against QPR. So I urge all united fans to ignore cunts like him and move on. We have been robbed many times so its not like we get all the decision. It is just because we beat the opponents that the media points we have been favored.

3 points end of the story.

  74. bRed says:

Is there any way this picture can be passed on to the press for some coverage? None of the papers have mentioned this horrendous challenge, but this definitely deserves some exposure in the press to highlight what a dirty cheating player that ladyboy is.

  75. Sushi says:

so now apparently the ref hurled racial insult at Mikel (if true that should be the end of the ref) and get this Terry was part of the contingent to go to refs dressing room post match!! for what exactly? to lend his expertise on racist language no doubt!! haha what an attention seeker

So what if the ref called Mata a spanish twat? Do they want to hear what many players abuse referees with?

Like most on this blog am glad karma finally came to visit utd with goodies to appease our previous painful visits to the bridge. Young was also awesome in comparison to nanis recent displays.
I have an issue with guys dishing out praise for the sake of it. De Gea deserves to really have a hard look at his performance. He wasn’t sure most of the time if to use his feet or hands to claim a shot and all his much hyped ball distribution was completely off. He either gifted the opposition keeper the ball or struck it to the stands. Remember his poor clearance that got intercepted. Can’t wait for dull Anders to man the posts!

Your criticism of de gea is very harsh. To blame him for our poor defending or for the 2 goals conceded is not correct. I though he had a good game, yeah he made some errors but he will improve. If you again drop him it will be back to square one. He was pretty good in latter part of last season when he was playing continuously. Dropping him would be a big mistake. We need to stop this keeper rotational policy as it will cost us badly. I thought the communication of evans and rio was very bad and it could have cost us the goal. And less said about evra the better. We need to sort out our defence as quickly as possible.
Speaking of defence how much has Rafael improved. Honestly he is our best defender right now. Look this is what you get when you play a player regularly. He has improved alot. Same way we have to be patient with de gea. He is just 21 and for keeper that is way too early to be at their best. He still needs to improve in some area and he can only improve by playing regularly.

  82. udhala says:

De Gea will remain our first choice keeper,he’s outstanding and can only get better.

  83. reddevil says:

i actually disagree that torres was wrongly sent off. he was clearly theatrical & any contact made looked minimal from the replays – u can see torres was still on his two feet & running after the apparent ‘contact’ was made. he then went down like he’d been shot. as for the offside goal well too bad chelsea, u dont get the decisions all the freaking time.

  84. theredderdevil says:

I don’t blame him for the goals. all am saying is he made serious blunders that went unpunished. On thay note someone please make me understand please please explain to me like am a five year old WHY DE GEA SHOULD BE ALLOWED TIME TO COME GOOD INSPITE OF THE SHORTCOMINGS AND NOT THE SAME FOR LINDEGARD. WHY NOT LINDE BEING GIVEN TIME?

  85. Ash says:

    theredderdevil

Because de gea is in process of learning. We have a keeper who has a huge potential to be the best in the world in future. Nothing against linde. He is a good keeper but he is no better than de gea. For god’s sake de gea is 21 and he needs time if he has to come good. Look at hart. He was average at best 2 years ago, Look at him now, If he wasn’t given chance to play he won’t have reached the level he is now. Have you watched Casillas when he was in his early 20′s , if you haven’t let me tell you he also made some silly mistakes but madrid didn’t bench because if they had cassilas wouldn’t be the keeper he is now.

If you don’t give opportunities to young players they cant reach their true potential. As much as I like lindegaard’s attitude I will prefer de gea to him on any given day as he is our future. And if you still can’t understand why de gea is being given time to play then sorry you will never understand.

  86. Marq says:

“I don’t blame him for the goals. all am saying is he made serious blunders that went unpunished”

SERIOUS BLUNDERS! Tell me if I am wrong but apart from one miss hit he was doing a fine job. He couldn’t do much about the goals. Hell no keeper could have done anything. If you want to talk about blunders why don’t you blame evra who has been poor to his standards for last 2 years. Evans and Rio did have problems with their coordination which could have cost us the goal. It did cost us against stoke. Why don’t you blame them. Carrick was also poor , why don’t you blame him. See football is a team game. You win as a team and you lose as a team. De gea has major problem in dealing with crosses and apart from that he is great in every other aspect. His spontaneous reactions are awesome. Look at his save from the header of torres yesterday. He lacks in confidence and that can only improve when you play regularly. Look how confident evans is now. He along withn rafael has improved a lot and that didn’t come from sitting in bench. Patience is the key to success. It took 2-3 seasons for ronaldo to show his true class. It takes time. You cannot become flawless in 1 year.

    Check this:

    http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2012/oct/29/steward-hospital-chelsea-manchester-united

Chelsea have said offically that he was injured in a surge. A surge of home supporters when a goal is scored against them? In a seated arena? Sound ‘off’ to you?

I wonder might he have been hit by some of those missiles that the home supporters were tossing about?

I expect this one ot run and run

  89. udhala says:

I still remember Linde passing the ball to an opponent.

  90. Marq says:

    @everydayislikesunday

I doubt is a missle. Look at the second picture from this article

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2224550/Chelsea-face-investigation-injured-steward.html

Looks nasty. Then again, what do you expect from Chelsea fans?

  91. Rohan_19 says:

The referees had a really bad game that one,
The only thing this match showed us was how difficult it is to win the league this year..
Three legit challengers and great teams.

    For me
    1) torres shoul’ve been sent off for the challenge in the picture, but i doubt the ref had a clear view.
    2) ivanovic is an idiot and deserved a red.
    3) chicho’s goal was extremely hard to call offside in spilsecond frame.
    4) our midfield was extremely static ans weren’t able to influence anything after maybe the first 25 mins.
    5) rvp rooney valencia young and ddg had a really good game today, rafael was caught out too easily sometimes, maybe a rest is needed.
    6) the second goal showed all the kinks in chelsea’s formation. If only we had kept better possession, we’d have scored atleast one more.
    7) credit should go to fergie for team selection. The wingers totally pegged back their full backs and hence they lacked width in the first half.
    8) we need to maintain better possession in the game vs arsenal.
    9) i dont get what ando has done to not deservema start, hope he starts in the cup game

For the cup game i’ve heard smalling is back so i would have this team play

    Ddg
    Rafa smalling evans evra
    Fletcher anderson
    Nani welbeck young
    Pea.

Course fergie might put in someone else for rafa. But i guess this will be the team.

  92. Rohan_19 says:

I think de gea could’ve saved the free-kick. An instant before it mata kicked it, de gea shifts he weight to the left leaving him more to do to save it. That however is understadable since mata took one to his left only last season. Not premeditating and being calm under pressure are things that can be coached.
The save he made of torres’ header was exquisite, those things cant be coached.
He is a great goalie already, with the right coaching we will have a truly special player on our hands.

  93. Gandalf says:

@Ash – excellent post on de gea, well wrote. I only hope after we give him the opportunity and make him world class, he doesn’t piss off to spain.

  94. Ash says:

We should beat chelsea again this midweek. A win for them would help their fans and media to criticize our yesterday’s victory even more. Let us beat them this time eventhough chelsea would be very hungry to beat us. I don’t want us to get knocked out by the chavs.

Rohan- You are right about rafa. He needs rest but I feel he loves to play regularly. He is our little tiger. I don’t see evra playing. Buttner will play and so will rooney. If anyone needs rest it is RVP. Man he has been magnificent. He deserves rest and should be 100% ready to face against his old club. I hope rvp scores against gunners but doesn’t do a adebayor by celebrating in front of their fans.

  95. Rohan_19 says:

Ash- oh yes. Rooney was taken off early so he might play..
Rvp wont do that he’s a classy guy, i doubt he will ever celebrate if he scores. He has never spoken a bad word about arsenal.

Re buttener, he plays as a right back too, do you think fergie would take the chance?
We really need rafa to be firing on all cylinders atleast till jones and smalling are back. He will be rested for a couple of games after that i imagine…

  96. Ash says:

Buttner won’t play at rb. Someone from our youth will play at rb. Verjmil may play. Evra won’t start so buttner will plat at lb. Smalling I suppose will feature. Like you said untill Jones, Smalling and vidic are back I can’t see evans and rafa getting proper rest.

  97. Busby says:

I only wish Fergie had brought Scholes on when they went down to 10, and especially when they went down to 9. He would have picked them off methodically and we would have won 5-2

  98. Bobby Charlton's combover says:

No sooner was the Terry Ferdinand thing put to bed and now a referee is accused or rascist or insulting language to TWO players. Unbelievable. When will this end.
We played well. At times. So did Chelsea. Both teams a a long way ahead of the rest of the PL in terms
    of quality and effort.

As the for the steward – I like everydayislikesunday says – a surge by home fans when they concede in an all-seater stadium sounds like a hurried excuse dragged out without thinking.

  99. okwudili obu says:

pls let see the goal was score by little pea, the goal is not offside the first time rvp pray short when peter chec save it little pea was to put it inside net but they clear the ball before Rafael shoot it again little pea jump out put his two legs and tap it inside net if saw it well dived luiz was down there before he jump out with two defenders

  100. buh says:

@ak47 : ” If there is contact it cannot be a dive” = bollocks

players make contact all the time without resulting in going to ground, he dived.

  101. FletchTHEMAN says:

Good the moaning from the press. You’d think that Clattenburg hadn’t gifted Chelsea.

If you are going to card Valencia, then you have to card Torres.
Why no pen for Luis handball (hand away from body and clearly influenced ball).
DeMatteo wasn’t cautioned for handling Valencia
Torres was’t sent off for chesthigh kick to Cleverley.

    Lots went Chelsea’s way.

Also, What was going on in Rooney’s head gifting that free kick to get Chelsea back in the game.
You could see it coming from the 3rd moon of Saturn.
Practically put the ball where Mata would have the best chance.

Anyone have the linos view of Hernandez’ goal? I can only find the footage from the midfield camera.
Was the lad offside. Just for me.

    Anyway, GREAT win.

  102. FletchTHEMAN says:

PS. What about Cahill doing Evans when he was about to head the ball in? Right all the decisions went against Chelsea.

First point at the Bridge since 2002. That tells you something!

SAF: “I’ve waited 10 years to get a call at this place. I’ll take it”

  103. Gandalf says:

wow, hard to believe clattenburg would racially abuse a player – this investigation should be interesting.
If it was just use of offensive language from ref to players – then I think, it will be awfully harsh to punish ref for that. The players shout so much obscenities at the ref, it is cringe-worthy. My sympathy lies with referee when it comes to name calling. They have to put up with so much from players, managers and fans.
I hope chelsea aren’t playing a game here.

  104. FletchTHEMAN says:

    Bobby Charlton’s combover
Right, and given Ashley Coles “not credible” evidence for his captain, and the completely fabricated evidence against Evra a couple years ago, you can just see entire Chelsea squad down to the ballboy coming out with sworn statements.

Anyone else look at the tape of the incident. Mikel doesn’t look least phased. Chelsea becoming the new Liverpool. Never our fault. Hope De Mateo gets a charged for handling Valencia.

  105. FletchTHEMAN says:

    Love it!

Sir Alex (the old Ranger striker) giving advice to Torres:
“I would’ve never missed that chance. I would’ve taken it in my time. I would’ve never gone down. But he did go down – that’s the issue – and he’s already been booked. So it’s his own fault.”

SAF Note to Torres: It’s your own fault!!!

  106. g-man says:

Torres should go to jail for that kick. Poor clevs.

  107. samuel - united WE stand says:

Fergie got it tactically spot on yesterday. I was thinking united needed to match chelsea by playing a diamond formation but that’d have played into the blues hands but the idea of using wingers worked well. Chelsea are great going forward, possessing crafty playmakers that will open up any defense but they leave gaps behind, especially on the wings due to them being inclined to do damage through the middle.
Fergie decided to counter that with out and out wide men, both young and valencia are mainly wide men but tucked in to offer defensive solidity. They exploited the isolated ivanovic and cole, valencia was at his powerful best, you know exactly what he’ll do but fuck knows how to stop it. Combined well with rafael who is looking more impressive everytime. The samba star now has this imposing figure about him, really powerful now but he has the speed, instinct to attack, guile, skill and technique of a typical brazilian playing on the copacabana beach. Developing into a complete fullback, hope to keep seeing him do well.

De gea was fantastic last night, he kept united in the games with saves that he and only a rare few keepers can make. He did some of it in an unorthodox manner though, using mainly his feet but he has huge potential to eventually turn top class. Needs to nail down that NO 1 spot and even more encouraging, he disregarded any daft rumour of returning to spain which i personally thought had no realistic foundation anyway, he’s a fighter.

Thought cleverley put in a below par performance. I’ve always said he needed to make that extra step to be a top player. His decision making were not good, passes sloppy and defensively, did not aid the team. Disappointed with the way ramirez beat him in the box. Tom needed to show more desire for the ball there and he’ll have to showcase that as the pressure intensifies throughout the season. Too many sloppy mistakes can’t be afforded in a crucial position against top teams. Great central midfielders rarely get stuck in a cul-de-sac, they always know what to do before the ball gets to them, tom has that but he needs more and also has to put in more shift defensively. I hope to see him improve.

Van persie was superb. His all round game was a joy to behold. Twinkle toes, wand of a left foot, more often than not, great close control/first touch, vision, inter-link up play are immaculate plus a clinical finisher. i hope there’s more to come.

Rooney floated in and out of the game. Involved in the build up to the two goals but his influenced lessened as he dropped deeper to offer defensive help and as chelsea up their game. Hooked off at the right time, hopefully he’ll step his game up next time. His combination with van persie will hopefully get better as both are on the same wavelenght.

Hernandez must be brimming with confidence but i have to say, his strenght and power have improved. Defenders Can’t knock him off the ball easily as they once did, the premier league toughens players up. He has turned into a battler, his all round play might not be as good as the likes of welbeck, RVP and rooney but he has improved that side of his game and as ever, he’s bright and alert inside the 18yard box, almost like a wolf sniffing meat. Hope he keeps scoring crucial goals, i don’t think those starting ahead of him will be relaxing either.

Young had a decent game. the intelligent runs off the ball caused chelsea problems but he looked understandably rusty, sloppy passes which i hope will be cut as he regains full fitness. He knows opportunities won’t come plenty, needs to grab opportunities given.

Carrick played well for the first 20mins but understandably waned as the creative midfieks trio of chelsea stepped up their game. Really wasn’t offered any help by cleverley but used his experience to see off the game. Some of his passes to the forward players displayed michael’s ability but you hope he can be at his efficient best for the season.

Rio strolled through the game. His ability to bring the ball out as a defender is one of the best, wasn’t to blame for either goals and he didn’t let the bemusing abuse get the better of him. Evans was ok but i feel and hope there’s more to come.

Look, it was another mix bag game, never going to totally overwhelm chelsea home or away, they’re one of the best in world football. Laughable when some expected united to be naive and throw men forward against a team that may be down on players but still have individual players that can punish you. Add that to the fact united have not won a league game there for a decade and some perspectives can be found. Not saying united were brilliant and we need to improve massively, especially defensively but in games like this, results matter more.

Anyway, this match is only a taste of what’s to come as i think chelsea will be even more determined and fired up to win in the league cup/other comoetitions united face them in. Two victories there is probably asking too much but who knows, i just hope the younger players can get more chance to express themselves on the pitch. I’d imagine changes made to the entire team. Buttner for evra, maybe smalling might come in?, wooton and either michael keane or vermijl will hopefully start with lindergaard in goal. Fletcher, anderson, powell will occupy the midfield, would like tunni, lingard and larnell cole to get minutes. Up front, i hope to see joshua king playing and i hope he grabs the opportunity, probably with welbeck. Macheda, henriquez will hopefully get their chance and where on earth is petrucci?. The league cup is usually used for younger players, hope fergie sticks to that principle even though it’s a huge test. I hope chelsea don’t roll out their top players or the younger players will be in for a torrid game. Let’s up they put out younger players, not saying that will be easy though.

  108. Soccerisma says:

De Jong got a yellow for this tackle from Howard Webb

Torres got a yellow for this tackle from Clattenburg

Suarez got a yellow for the challenge in everton game from Marriner

In such circumstances, a referee looks at the scneario the game is in, its intensity, the scoreline or whatever to decide which color to come out , then again the tackle that got Shelver sent off against United was debatable as Evans was coming with both feet too, was Shelvey aggressive or not

All these things are debatable but things like a clear off side goal isnt. You see if young goes down on a touch then so did torres, and ferguson claiming that Torres could have been thru on goal that wasnt the case we all know

  109. Denise Williams says:

My view is Torres got what he deserved. For one thing I firmly believe that he did dive. Let us be honest he does have history doesn’t he? Another thing does anyone believe these Chelsea allegations of racism against the referee Mark Clatternberg? Personally I don’t as it is highly suspicious that a Chelsea player has just been found guilty of racism. Another tnhing that stood out from that inquiry is that Chelsea have a very strong aversion to the truth. Look at Ashley Cole a proven liar. Funny they haven’t made a complaint to the Metropolitan Police isn’t it? However I suppose it isn’t really as they could be done for wasting police time.

  110. T. says:

Buhu, the refs doesn´t like me and he told me I was a cunting, fucking cheating little Spaniard, buhu. And he was unfare too, he didnt send Evra of for getting his legs almost shopped of by Ivanovic 5 minutes into the game, he didnt forced Clevs off when Torres sent him a flying kick that would impress Mr. Miyagi and nearly sent Clevs to the transplant waiting list for a new kidney. Buhu, he sent Ivanovic after his second straight red foul…stupid ref. Buhu, we try and impersonate the scousers and claim it is ever our fault, it is always the refs. Even when Chelsea get 2 straight wrong match winning calls from Webb in two different games the rentboys aren´t happy. They still call him “bought” by Sir alex.

How about u fucking stand for ur actions for once instead of claiming the refs is at fault. From Clattenburgs point of view, it looked like a dive even Suarez would have been proud of. Luckily Evans managed to put some studs in him while he was mid air. And about the the offside situation. 5-6 men on the goalline, not really easy to see what was going on, do the job better then, fuckin whiny Chavs. Mrs, Massey cant hold the flag in each and every game.

  111. cotting says:

i didn’t like what the refere did to chelsea by giving red card to torres

  112. Red Army 75 says:

I haven’t stopped laughing since the full time whistle! All the fucking whinging is unbelievable! And what was Gary Nev on about? Torres got a second yellow because after SLIGHT contact he went down like he had a cruciate, and rolled around like he was waiting for the parish priest to give him the fucking last rites! He obviously did it to get Jonny Evans sent off and even it up at 10 men each. But he fucked it up and the look of shock on his face was priceless. He even forgot to limp as he walked off! Ha Ha!! And yeah, the winner was offside but only with the benefit of slo-mo replays. Look at it again – the rent boys behind the goal don’t even react, because it looked ok. It was only when they showed the replay that we saw he was marginally off when the pass was made but he moved so quick the linesman can be forgiven. I’m forgiving him anyway. Fuck , I’m inviting him over for Chrismas!

  113. OAFC says:

    Denise Williams.

Torres got what he deserved? Not what any of you said when Ashley Young was winning dubious penalties last year was it? Then it was all about the fact that the tiny amount of contact meant Young had every right to dive. As for your comments about the race allegations. Why don’t you wait for the outcome instead of opening your mouth with no knowledge of the situation? It appears Clattenburg was heard referring to Mata as a Spanish Twat so who’s to say what he said to Mikel.

You’d all better hope Clattenburg isn’t banned though. He’s far and away your best player.

  114. Hyu says:

@OAFC I recall United fans being annoyed bt Youngs diving. Redcafe in particular, many were calling for his head. I also like how you say we shouldn’t speak about racist allegations, I mean from a Chelsea fan. Defending Terry or Suarez despite them being found guilty is disgusting. I won’t even bring the ref’s performance considering Chelsea/Atkinson over the last 10 years. Its funny how CFC and their fans are in uproar now. Haha CFC – STANDING AGAINST RACISM SINCE LAST SUNDAY
