“…A statue will be unveiled for Ferguson outside Old Trafford in the coming months but a large collective of United supporters has already distributed an open letter challenging his pro-Glazer statements and asking him to justify his position against the overwhelming evidence to the contrary. And if not, why not? The plan is there to “attract, retain and motivate selected employees, consultants and non-employee directors”. So it is strange, to say the least, that the Glazers would overlook the man who has done more than anyone to bring silverware and huge financial rewards to the club – a manager who has often had to make do with a restricted budget, spending less than Stoke City and Aston Villa over one five-year spell under the Glazers, yet defending them to the point that his own position has come under scrutiny.
It is a thorny issue. For many supporters, Ferguson runs the risk of tarnishing his legacy by taking the side of the owners. Others argue that is ungrateful in the extreme and that, as a company employee, Ferguson could hardly be expected to undermine the men at the top. Two factions have formed – one increasingly voluble in their criticism of the manager, one fiercely supportive. As for what happens next, the only thing that can be said with clarity is that there is no real end in sight.

Games against Barca are never friendly and Messi epitomises class and consistency, so Surely even diehard Ando-haters must admit he had a good half keeping the best player in the world quiet while creating a few chances himself. Yeah its only pre-season but you can imagine the plaudits if a similarly aged fan-favorite put in the Exact same performance. End of the day Anderson looks in good shape for the next weekend and thats enough for me. BTW even though Scholes read the game beautifully as usual (and long may it continue) the MOTM was De Gea. He is a quality signing seldom mentioned, and he’s pure class for his age.
Looking forward, possession is the name of the modern game and without negating Carrick it’s Ando, Cleverly and Kagawa who will drive our forward play from midfield this season. God knows how the manager will set out his team but those three are vital to easing our recent reliance (and predictability) on the wings. Don’t know about you, but im kinda bored of seeing Nani called shit for not consistently beating his 2 man-markers *while positioned on the flank* week in week out. The only wingers who manage that on a regular basis have a more central role and better support to make those infield runs. Nani has neither, so he gets blamed for our defence being split whenever he loses the ball MILES from our own goal. That frustrates me more than anything he does during 90 mins tbh, especially when you see his performances for Portugal. He was consistent from qualification right up to his classy display against Spain, so if you think he’s a poor player you’re delusional, especially if you also lament our failure to sign a “big name”. According to his team mates and manager Nani IS a big name, and at 25 he has his best 4 years still ahead of him starting now,
Having said that – the introduction of Kagawa and the fitness of Ando and Tom could spur the rest of the team towards something special this year. We’ve needed midfielders who have the legs to allow Nani to come infield without it causing a huge problem for defenders. Perhaps now we’ll finally see both flanks better supported to cut infield without being worried about teams slicing us open? If those 3 young midfielders stay fit we’re in for a treat right across midfield, and Young hasn’t suddenly become a shite player either btw, you’ve only gotta look at Rooney for another player who needs to find form, init?

@Cantona got me here – top name! Cheers mate im just being optimistic really. We pushed City without Ando and Tom available for most of the season so I don’t see a need to be pessimistic. Im not dismissing Scholes and Carrick but our manager selected the younger duo and we started the season with aplomb so not having them as options ham-stringed us. Now we have Kagawa we just need our new young trio to stay fit and their class will do the talking imo, especially when backed by Scholes Carrick and Giggs.

Busby babes – I love fergie, but I am sorry he has got it wrong the past few years. I actually feel has been getting big decisions wrong since 2009 on the transfer front. Yes the likes of DDG and hernandez have been good signings, but still question marks are on smallen jones young and bebe. I think all have and will do well, but its not been enough
the summer 2009 he needed to add another striker and it cost us in 2010
we were lucky in 2011 that giggs berbatov and hernandez really took the bull by the balls, and helped us win the league in 2011.
In the summer of 2011, he needed to add a CM or 2, and it cost us big time in 2012.
By not sorting out the midfield, we are now in a messy situation, where we need to sort out the defence not just the midfield. Yes we have numbers, but they are injured now, so for me we need 3 players, 2 defenders and a midfielder. Yet our targets are wingers and strikers, when we have nani valencia young out wide, along with rooney welbeck hernandez and still on the books berbatov. So our transfer targets are all backwards
fucking get behind Ando. I know he hasn’t had any luck with injuries and people criticize him for his weight but fucking hell he looks like an amazing character in the backgrounds and these photos made me smile!

I went to kashmir and manali with my family. What a great place. People in india should visit that.
Now coming to the blog I am surprised why there is no mention of IPO thing. I read THAt ipo value is less than expected. $233 million has been made.
If all these money are used for repayment of debt then our remaining debt will be 280 million pounds which is somewhat better than what it is now. But glazers are taking half of it so only 75 millions would be used for repaying the debt.
I have read fitb post many times and he looks to be a decent bloke. I won’t blame fergie but we should buy a defender and a midfielder. I hope we buy some good player.

Just googled myself Willie. A belgian midfielder really. Fellaini come over here gets a bit raggy has a motown haircut, sells a few wigs, maybe the odd shirt and his supposed to be brilliant. For me hes decidedly average. Then the Defour rumours started how he was brilliant, because he played with Fellaini and now Witsel.

Goat – I haven’t seen that much of him tbh. He’s plays in center mid. Good player from the bits and pieces I’ve seen, but the figure being mentioned is way over his value. Thats why the story is BS. United wouldn’t pay his buyout clause. He did play against England for Belgium at Wembley few months back. Done ok. Could see us moving for Dembele, but not Witsel.
Willie – another rumour with no concrete rumour. His buy out clause is 40million euros, don’t see united affording that, it won’t happen. Witsel is a quality player though, converted from a winger at standard liege into a central midfielder as it’s his best position apparently. Strong, athletic and a complete all round central midfielder. He’s built for the premier league but won’t happen.
Goat – belgium is inexperienced but it would be a suprise if they Don’t start stepping up soon. They have talented players that needs a good manager to gel them. They played against england and made mugs of them even though they lost (most teams do that though). Don’t particularly rate felliaini but there’s no doubt that he makes his presence felt. He’s a constant threat in the box and will cause united problems when they play them. Gotta hope the defence is solid but technically, he’s not that good.

Im not sure we really need another midfielder, we’ve brought in two, possibly getting Fletcher back. Its not really a need. IMO. Im happy as it is and would only make a change if it was for an infinitely better player than we have at present in a given posstion. A definate 1st teamer rather than another prospect.
We have a good range of players at RB, one of the worlds best LB, 2 fantastic CD’s. One of the worlds best zonal defensive midfielders in Carrick. Scholes the wizard, Kagawa the exciting new comer. wingers galore and 4 superb forwards. Whats lacking? Weve even got Cleverly back.
Last year we lost to the worlds most expensive team by gd in injury time and lost in Europe when we lost in essence both CD for the most part. I have no problems going with what we got.

I think you hit the nail on the head when you mentioned everyone makes mugs out of England, even the olympics saw far better individual control and passing from Senegal and UAE than the partying english (british) lads. What a team does against the chavs of england is no mark of talent. (not world class talent anyways). Felainni is a handfull due to his size rather than his skill level.
If we wnat size at OT then I would take a punt with Dickson Etuhu. I feel he could eliminate the threat of Toure when we play City. He would give us an option when we need it and be happy with getting a chance to play for United that he wouldnt mind sitting on the bench for periods unlike egos like Felainni and 40million Witsel with his locks.
I would love to see Toure and Etuhu square up and I honestly reckon he would be worth the 10million just to give us an edge in the derby and take those 6 points away from City. But like I said Im happy to go with what we got.
Add that to the pack quality younger players united have in central midfield and are on the brink of first team duty. Still hopes for anderson, it may have been pre season but he looked assured against barca. I’m hoping he pushes on this season, FERGIE clearly sees a very good player in him.

Goat – i was thinking if united played more skillful, clever quick passing midfielders, we could out-pass city and neutralize the threat of toure. Silva is world class but toure is a major threat with his size and power added with his technique, seems incredibly hard to stop when he starts going but we can by-pass him by dominating the midfield with technical play. If united bought etuhu for example, yes he won’t get bullied by toure but going forward, we’ll be missing something. United need to play a more fluid unpredictable system against top teams. Agreed on fellaini. he’s One of the reasons why we aren’t celebrating title 20 (plus hey united fucked it up). Big player in the box, he’s a threat but skill wise, he’s average.
Who bought roy hodgson some sense? now he knows he needs a carrick, a cleverly to keep the ball. Relied on that donkey ‘scotty’ parker who basically chases shadows, catches the shadows occasionally with an ill timed tackle and then gives the ball back to the shadow as a gift. Hopeless fucker. That is presumably what Fergie’s thinking with his refusal buy a destroyer or box-to-boxer. He’s bascially following (rather ambitiously) the Barca blueprint.
Busquets and Carrick are very similar in style (if not in professionalism and dignity) – deep lying, positionally aware, elegant, good passing, calm in possession, but not authentic ‘holding’ players. The idea is that retention of possession – rather than the presence of a destroyer – is what protects the back 4. That was working well for us at the start of the season until Cleverley and Anderson got wiped out. He then switched to Carrick and Scholes basically both playing that role, and hitting on the counter rather than playing ‘proper’ attacking football.

For me Costas its a win win situation for Fergie to rock the boat at Arsenal and tell Wellbeck life goes on without him and we have options should he not sign. Its a ploy to keep a youngster in what we see fit as a wage structure and not allow up and coming stars to dictate the structure at the club. What does it cost Sir Alex all this RvP talk. It shows we can attract names, It speeds up the Wellbeck contract issue, It unsettles a rival by fekkin with their captain. Yeah as long as it’s just transfer gossip, I can see Welbeck feeling less needed by the club so to speak. As long as it’s just transfer gossip though. If Van Persie actually joins us, it could have negative ramifications on Welbeck’s contract negotiations. He might not want to commit if he feels that he will have a harder time breaking into the first team. Because unlike Berbatov, I doubt RVP will be shoved to the side in order for Danny to establish himself. Speaking of which, don’t know if I would agree with your Berba/RVP comparison (on equal fees no doubt who’s better
), but I really wonder why Arsenal haven’t asked for him as part of a swap deal. I am sure he’s better than Gervinho, lol.

That’s the other thing I don’t get about the RVP thing. If Kagawa plays on the wing and we keep playing 4-4-2, then we will need 4 top class strikers. But if we plan to revert to 4-5-1, having Rooney, Danny, Javier and RVP (or Berba for that matter) is a luxury. Think of Yorke in 01-02 after Ruud and Veron arrived.
As for the defence, imo buying a central defender is a quick fix at the moment. Not sure if it’s needed because by early September Evans and Jones should be back. We just have to pray for one thing. That Rio and Vida don’t repeat what happened last year at the Shield and the Hawthorns and don’t get injured at the same game. They have to hold on until September.

I don’t want to force anyone to be best pals with anyone else in here either. My motto is if you can act like someone doesn’t exist, it works a lot better for you. That’s what I suggest. And if someone here has an opinion on football matters that I happen to value, then I have no problem discussing it with him. As for the rest, personal speaking, I try to avoid judging anyone as a human being going by my experience at this blog. I prefer sticking to football debates.
Costas – kagwa signing has sorted the striker situation out, we got cover for rooney, and a potential great system on our hands, with kagwa aboard. We have great central strikers in welbeck and hernandez, so there is great balance in no10′s, and no9′s, so if rooney got injured, kagwa can easily replace rooney. Putting kagwa on the wings is grave grave mistake, play him off rooney or welbeck. Fergie still for me, is forgetting the actual prioretys and needs of the squad, and he is repeating the same mistakes, by signing players we do not need. RVP is also terribly injury prone, did fergie not forget hargreaves, and RVP has peaked for me, so wasting money on a player we may only get at most 3 years is a mistake, we saw the mistake signing berbatov turned out to be formation wise

On equal fees then whos better? I prefer to think of it as what do we need more. Berbatov is a play maker, has no weekness on either foot. Can shoot long range and poach. Is incredibly hard to rid of the ball and can hold up play long enough for wingers and the like to catch up. Berbatovs only fault is his casual manner makes him look lethargic and occassionally in front of goal he will miss a sitter due to concentration. Spending too much time being cool and the champion of the world rather than realising that champions of the world are only there due to the work they put in. Berbatov is also defensive responsible. He’s also one of the few strikers nowadays it seems who are willing to be in the box for a corner at either end.
RvP is faster and has a better work rate than Berbatov, hes not as two footed and is essentially only a left footer. He has a great set piece shot but with Rooney and Nani calling the shots he probably wont be allowed to use it. He isnt as good at holding up play as Berbatov is nor does he have as big a tricks repetoire. Hes a corner taker (a very good one) but whats the use if that means Nani has to be in the middle waiting for the ball especially as Scholes wont be nor will Rooney. What would be the point of a corner taker?

You say that Wellbeck will feel less needed because of the transfer gossip. Im not so sure that players actually give two hoots about the club and are only in it for themselves. They have agents breathing down their necks spending all the time in the world convincing them to do the “right thing” for them. The PFA was set up just for that purpose as in days yonder players were given a bit of a rough ride in regards contracts and the like. Just because Wellbecks a local lad dont think for one minute hes a Paul Scholes. The only real truely genuine footballing gentleman out there besides Booby Charlton. Footballers are thicker skinned than ordinary folk Im sure Wellbecks only thinking of self self self and has so much belief in his abilities he probably believes hes better than Messi and Ronaldo combined anyways.

goatinaunitedshirt – unless united are planning on selling rooney next summer, so signing RVP and Kagwa makes up for that, the RVP signing does not really make much sense, unless the boss really cannot find any good options for defence and midfield to buy, so overload the squad with forwards. Those are my only 2 reasons why RVP is signing, but his injury record does worry me

Couldnt agree more in terms of Wellbeck but in my opinion NOT if it goes against club policy. If Wellbeck is asking too much for what Sir Alex feels is what will benefit United for him being there then hes free to leave. All this is speculation. I have no idea what Wellbecks asked for, contract negotiations often take a long time, your probably just as wise or wiser to the whole situation than I am. By no means do I want to lose a promising player such as Wellbeck BUT no player is bigger than the club.

I honestly think its all a bit of a piss take and to wind up Wenger. If your getting me started about Rooney to ignite the coals under this discussion then you’ve come to someone with a new Zippo. I would have sold Rooney last year. He is a fantastic player dont get me wrong, he ignites the crowd and that in itself wakes up some tired heads out there but I do feel his ball control and passing on the edge of the opposing teams penalty area is not befitting a Manchester United player. Of course you would expect passing stats to fall in such a tight area but I dont think his are even close to the worlds best players. I sometimes feel hes at OT because he sells shirts, the whole media furor around him is more beneficial to keep than get rid of. If he wasnt in the limelight as much (a bit like Berbatov) a quite lad and kept himself to himself and showed such massive flaws to his game then Im sure Fergie would have taken the 50 million and run with it. Just my opinion of course, my willing to part with Rooney is as much to do with his valuation as his faults. 50 million pound players are supposed to be just that.

I realise the tax players payed went drastically up at one point and hence so did wages but it wasnt that long ago Beckham was asking for that type of money and I thought he was a cunt for doing so.
