In my opinion we have plenty of firepower. Three proven strikers with lots of PL experience in Rooney, Berba and Owen, and two young exciting prospects in Macheda and Welbeck. The two kids will be given more games this season, and with that a chance to prove themselves.

I’m kinda pleased. I was never confident in the people we were touted to move for… Et’o, Benzema, Ribery, Costas and Young.

Young being the only realistic target for me.

Should make for an interesting season

I am NOT convinced by these signings at ALL! I mean I respect Sir Alex but if he thinks this current squad is capable of retaining the prem crown then I think he has lost his mind! I think that behind closed doors we don’t have money for transfers, most of the Ronaldo money was used to SERVICE DEBTS!! Michael Owen is a desperate signing to try to calm the fans down but in reality it is the worst signing of all time. The boy is CROOKED, injury Prone & a Liverpool Reject! Capello dismissed him Rafa Dismissed him and Fergie signed him, WHAT A SHAMBLES! I’m worried now, VERY WORRIED!! to make matters worst, Man city are buying everyone including Tevez and Adebayor! Maybe Fergie wants to assess them preseason to see how much they’re going to figure this season before he gives them a number?

It’s disappointing or either that those who comment is not United fans. They only think of themselves and take the Sir Alex for granted after making the club so successful. I can’t believe United fans say all these. If Sir Alex say it’s good already, don’t doubt him. As i said, he won’t pay over the value for any players. Eto weekly pay 150,000? No way. Man United had a good structure and we can’t let one player destroy the whole club. If you are United fans, stay confident and try to believe the team. If not, i guess you are really a pitiful fans.

Gill report any of such name? personally am half happy if the his claim is true that there are no more signings to be done coz I know now the young lads will get the chance. For all those who doubt: think Schmiechel, Irwin, Solsjaer, Cantona, Sheringham, Ronaldo, Rafael, Vidic, Evra etc
Players plucked from relative obscurity, or those who were deemed not needed at other clubs – Cantona, or getting on a bit – Sheringham.
What exactly do you propose Fergie does? I don’t see another striker on the market right now that I would want at Old Trafford – Aguero perhaps, but money is ridiculous – he’d be available next summer at the same price and that would freeze out the youngsters and maybe push Rooney to the left!
In terms of the midfield – we have a lot of young blood coming up again, and with central options of Carrick, Fletcher, Anderson, Scholes, Gibson, Giggs and Hargreaves when he comes back, I don’t see the point in another signing there.
In terms of the wings – United have signed in the last two seasons Valencia, Obertan, Nani, Tosic and Llijaca. SAF has obviously seen something in these players, and it would be foolish to clamour for more at ridiculous prices (£60mil for an ugly French Bastard who wants to play for Real???). I’m happy enough with the squad – seems fairly balanced, and might just gel nicely. Hoping Owen can rediscover his goal scoring form and maybe Nani can come good.

If it does go tits up, I doubt it is SAF to blame – either he believes in the players he has, or his hands are tied by the Yanks upstairs.

Blanco, to begin if you watch the press conference Sir said “anything is possible”, he didn’t close any doors on transfers. Also, we really shouldn’t have a scatter gun approach to the transfers, signing someone for the sake of it has never been the mandate of Man Utd. Obertan was scouted for years before we decided to plump for him and he cost $3 mil, big money signings will be even more intensely scrutinized. But yes indeed, us Singaporeans love Man Utd too =)

@ kapti14 : I agree on Obertan. Sometimes, there are players who just have that something about them a la Cantona, Berba, Ronaldo at 18, Beckham (anyone remember that goal at Wimbledon? Course ya do!) Just sometimes, no matter the price, a player has raw talent and is worth a gamble. I have a feeling that both Obertan on the left and Valencia on the right will be explosive this season. Big names have nothing to prove. Nani too has had a real kick up his backside. Tosic looked good this summer as well. 3 fresh wingers fighting for the wing spots, all eager, and up for a fight with Park and Wellbeck.

Up front, I admire the faith Fergie has put in the 3 forwards and the 2 kids, and it’s for the best for Wayne but don’t forget that this is Berba’s season to shine too now that he knows the team better.

The defence will be strong, Foster will start as number one (Edwin looks a bit like Peter the Great during his time at the bitters, ps, YouTube peter schmeichel for some amazing memories, brings a tear to my eye).

I reckon Costa will still sign; it’s a bargaining ploy for me. Now or January bargains.

I’m just hoping for maturity from Macheda, Wellbeck, Nani (the super-gifted nuisance who I WANT to love but struggle to), and Anderson, and an injury free season for Foster, Owen, Owen, (anymore injury prone “Owens” coming in?), and Rio.

The youth may not be ready to take us to Madrid for the final. But imagine winning it there, and the 19th title, Michael Owen scoring the deciders. Make’s my mouth water it does…

Fergie will spend again, but I dont think it will be a striker. He has faith in Welbeck and Macheda and they do have the raw talent.They will learn a lot from Owen…

I think SAF will invest in a goal scoring/creative midfielder… Either that or Anderson has to step-up BIG time

We could also probably do with a centre back

Lets be clear here SAF is well known for paying over the odds for players in the past, like Ferdinand, Rooney,Veron and more recently Berbatov, so he is not averse to big spending on the players he feel can improve Man u, even paying over the odds for Carrick and the aforementioned Berbatov, yet recently i have heard SAF proudly saying that Man U have a reputation for not paying silly money on players and he mentioned Ronaldhino and ‘Zidane’, i knew about the Ronaldhino saga but Zidane was the third greatest player of all time after Pele and Maradona, players like that you should push the boat out, fairplay if he said out of our price range, (what i thought at the time) but to say that he wasn’t value for that money is crazy. Ferdinand price even by today market is high and i remember the day it was announced, i was shocked by the cost but he was right and Ferdinand was worth every penny, the same would have been said for Zidane. Aguero has all the ability to scare the crap out of teams, he has shades of Tevez and Ronaldo, very young and the closest thing to Messi but more a team player, i think if his salary is £200K after tax this will never happen but i rather have one player of that ability than 10 players of average ability but that’s just me.

I am not convinced that SAF has all of that 80mil to spend on players, that is my worry, i hope and pray i am wrong but time will tell.

Owen is a proven goalscorer and if he can stay fit he will score goals for us. Valencia is a v good winger, different to ronaldo, and will get fewer goals and more assists. Obertan is somewhat of an unkown, seems to have bags of potential but is struggling to fufill it.

It pisses me off that people who will have never seen obertan play are writing him off already! Why cant people have a little faith.

It would have been nice to have a big name striker, but if we did that it would block the progress of welbeck and macheda, and another central midfielder wouls be nice also, but we are pretty well covered (Carrick,Fletcher,Hargreaves,Anderson,Scholes,Giggs, plus youngsters like gibson, hewsen etc)

So its two out in Ronny/tevez, and three in with owen/valenica/obertan.

I think owen will prove to be just a useful player as tevez was. He may not have the gut busting stamia, but he will score more goals, which will also help start to fill the ronny void. Valencia will not score hatfuls like ronny did, but he will get more assists which will help rooney and berba, who i think will both have great seasons. No more being played out of position, if rooney plays centrally, and recreates his england form for united, then we’ll barely notice that cristiano’s gone! And then anything obertan does will be a bonus, i dont think there is much pressure on him the season just get him settled and give him some chances.

So fingers crossed it’ll turn out that way!! im guessing SAF is thinking somewhere along those lines, and he gets it right a hell of a lot more that he gets it wrong!!

Cheers ronaldo for what you have done for this club, you will always be a legend in my eyes, but now hopefully rooney can start to be recognize more for the work he does, he’s what this club is all about a great grafter with magic skill thrown in…..COME ON UTd!!!!!!!!!!
