Carlos Tevez has handed in a transfer request to Manchester City after just 18 months at the club. He has claimed it is being homesick that has caused his depression and repeated talk of retirement, but if that was the case, why was he trying to negotiate his contract at City? Despite being the best paid player, he was looking for a pay rise, which the club refused to give him.

A few years ago he was winning league titles and the European Cup. When at United, he talked of his dream to play for years more before returning to Boca Juniors to play. Yet after not even a season and a half at City, Tevez is desperate to leave and the closest he’s come to more silverware is the League Cup semi-final where he was knocked out by United.
