1st!
I hope Sir Alex has signed their keeper before he’s allowed to leave Manchester and can we do a swap deal by sending Nani to Moscow and we’ll have Krasic in return
stretford i agree with you on tha nani situation…i want to hear tha excuses this week…lets jus face it nani is jus not united material eg. forlan…
Does anyone else think obertan is another fergie gem? He looks fearless when runnin at players don’t wanna get carried away or anythin but just his decision makin and his speed reminds me of a early ronnie just hope he can be half the player ronnie was I think he’s gonna be a class act anyway
Obertan won’t be far from ousting Nani. He immediately delivered pace and intelligent exchanges down that left side after the substitution.
Same after he came on against Blackburn. The intent to get at players and turn them inside out is there which is refreshing to see.
Macheda was great today… Lots of great touches, flicks to other players and should’ve scored at least one for himself if not for their keeper being on form. What is it with keepers hitting form when they play United.
Anyways, Obertan looked good when he came on. Did the simple things perfectly and did not run into any brick walls ala Nani. I love the boy Nani but he needs to sort out his form (lack of) really soon.
Defence was inexcusable today, letting in soft goal after soft goal and that won’t bring us any trophies for sure. Good result nevertheless but not a usual United performance that I fell in love with.
“stretford i agree with you on tha nani situation…i want to hear tha excuses this week…lets jus face it nani is jus not united material eg. forlan…”
Eg Forlan? What the guy who won the european golden boot last year? Give me a break, if anything Forlan is proof that we should stick with players even when they are out of form.
Nani wasn’t even bad today, some of the comments on here are just ridiculous. The lads 22 coming on 23, we’ve been spoilt with players like Rooney and Ronaldo peaking early, most players peak at 27-28. Give the guy a chance, he’s clearly got ability, its just his immaturity that gets in the way.
goal conceeded from a setpiece, eh thats a first this season init
Macheda was really good, defense wasn’t, but I don’t think any of those goals would have gone in with Rio and Vidic playing.
glad to get through,
obertan looks mint for his 1st few games, saf will keep his feet on ground and keep him workin hard and should be promising.
also mame birame diouf and lajic to come in january so thats 2 to look forward too without the saf chequebook coming out{which i hope it does!}
good result tho, need to pick up where we left off tonite against the rentboys at scamford bridge,3-1 united would be nice!!!
rooneys face.lmao
also bin dippers to go crashin out of europe
we shuda performed and we could of fucked the scum off out of the league ourselves, but as i tell the vermin , if you race a kid and whoop them they dont want to play, where as make them think they gotta chance and they play and dont whinge!!!!!!! after all
ITS THEIR YEAR, HEY HEY HEY
BULLSHIT
4 IN A ROW
i think the guys are turning a corner here, even b4 nani came off,we werent too bad. Obertan does all the simple things very well indeed,he’s obviously studied our game and seems to be playing the the United way,the defence will probably get aa talking to by SAF, valencia needs to start using his left foot, even if its for the simple lay back pass or back pass. he always seems to pass the ball with a lot of pace even though he doesnt have to.
Bring on the rent boys, i believe
UNITED,UNITED,UNITED,UNITED
macheda was gettin alot of stick in the stands…. i thought red nev was awesome, as was obertan when he came on
Great game. I appreciate we had injuries but we nearly fucked that up tonight. Great resilliance though to get the point and win the group. I love Fabio but the European stage looked a bit too much tonight. It is only when Pat came on that we could get to grips with Krasic, who I thought was superb tonight. Second half Evans was excellent. Personally I thought Macheda had a quiet game as did Valencia. Nothing worked for him tonight. I tell you what was interesting. When the players were warming up Valencia only used his left foot. Has he been told by Fergie? Yes I think he has although once the game got going he never used it! Rooney’s touch again was below par but it will come. If we had the “big guns” on from the start we would have won comfortably. Got to say my patience has run out with Nani. The whole ground just seems to groan everytime another of his passes goes awry or he doesn’t run at players. Why the fuck doesn’t he anyway? He has bags of pace and skill. Obertan looked great when he came on. He wanted to beat players and he hogs the touchline which Nani just doesn’t do. He is constantly drifting in. Obertan also linked up well with Pat and played some great balls across. Only a matter of time before he is a regular. One thing I will say about Nani is that he does track back but for me that is no way near enough to make it at United. Top finish by Michael again.
As for Sunday reckon Fergie will go with Giggs on the left , Ando and Carrick in the middle and Fletch out wide.
The main thing is our home unbeaten stretch is still on. Also got to say Akinfeev was superb.
PS Forgot to mention Fletch. Was unlucky with the penalty decision and he was also unlucky not to score with that 25 yard belter of a shot. Great to have him back. Wasn’t at his destroying best but what do you expect when he ain’t played in weeks? Good for him to get the full game so he can destroy the rentboys on Sunday.
Obertan will be better than Ronaldo.
Akinfeev was absolutely quality, those superb saves.. man we should get this keeper.
I think when Macheda hit the bar, Akinfeev thought it was gonna be out, but he was wrong, he was reluctant on that one.
Then again Obertan, he looks great I fancy him to start against Chelsea ahead of Nani this Sunday. Nani seemed to keep running against the wall.
Fletcher was so unlucky I mean come on why would someone dive when he had a clear chance to score.. doesn’t make any sense to me.
Nani is not as bad as a lot of people are saying…
It was a great touch to set up Owen and a lovely piece of creativity that many players in the squad are not capable of (reminded me of the sort of thing Berba’d try). Fair to say that his final ball isn’t great but that’s all he is really lacking.. once he adds that string to his bow he can go from being totally ineffectual to absolutely devastating.. it’s only a matter of time.
And I don’t think he’s got a bad attitude at all either.. every week he’s booed and criticised but he always comes back, his confidence isn’t diminished and he still tries to beat men and play attacking direct football. Despite his pace Valencia often stops and plays the ball square halting the momentum and directness that has characterised and defined United’s game for years.. this isn’t a criticism I’d level at Nani so much.
He’s no Ronaldo, thats clear, but he does have good attributes and i’m sure he’s capable of delivering a decent cross. I hope he starts against Chelsea (don’t think he will though) and I hope something happens for him that makes United fans ashamed of the constant hatred shown towards him.
A draw was a good result for us tonight. It sees us through to the next round with two games to play. Qualification was the only thing that mattered but the manner of the comeback will also buoy spirits heading in to the weekend. It’s time to get behind the team and will them to victory. Come on United.. Get up for it and lets show the rentboys who are champions and who will be champions again in May!!
I tot nani was decent tonite played owen in twice added an assist (which he almost had last sat just that rooney was offside). l tot the first thing to justify a striker’s effectiveness is the goals scored and a midfielder assist? Plus l’d like to see obertan start a game and see if his performance level will be the same as his cameos (when the defenders are already tired. l’m confident we’ll beat chelski at stamford bridge (l’d like to see who wants to bet against it).
P.S maybe Nani should do an anderson, play a game for the reserves?
Good MU. But, you must fix it.
this game cetainly reminded me of the birth of a certain kanu nwakwo (sorry scott, can’t help it as a Nigerian) in atlanta 1996, on the big stage. the game went exactly the same way scoring at abt th esame time as today’s agme. The pnly difference was nigeria went on to win with the golden goal!!!! Priceless
Got back from OT an hour or so ago – well, what a match! The stadium was over half empty with ten minutes to go, but damn, the sound was electrifying compared to Saturday (Blackburn)! There were a few Russians in the North (2nd Tier) which made it entertaining throughout.
Owen took most of the chances well and started running before others had the chance to think about playing it to him – soon they’ll get exactly on his wavelength and it’ll be magical. Macheda tried a few runs too but the balls weren’t quite right.
Can’t believe how shite Nani was in general, I’m tending to agree with most people now – shop him off in January while he’s worth something. Maybe we’ll regret it later on, but it’s enough and Obertan is an immediate replacement with Tosic and GIggs as rotation. The game-changers soon came on in the form of Rooney and Evra – the latter taking over stupidly well after Fabio’s hesitant start. Fabio has a while to develop but he’s learning and learn he will – from the best! Rooney really ripped the game apart though, his skill is undeniable and a joy to watch all the way through his time on the pitch – the ovations he got just for warming up show how much we appreciate him. Gary (The Red) Neville was on top form, the few mistakes were soon rectified by himself and got some cracking crosses in.
Got a video from the front of the North (Tier 2) coming up in less than an hour with Valencia’s goal in it. Taking on a basic HD camera so it’ll look half decent on the ‘Tube hopefully!
just finished watching the delayed telecast. what a performance from Obertan!!! I am now a very big fan of Gabriel Obertan. His performance was assuring, calculated, calm, skillful and the most important attribute that sets him apart from Nani – quick thinking. He is even better than Valencia! I would say it was because of Obertan’s introduction that we managed to change the game.
I am very deeply disappointed with Nani, have been backing him up for quite some time.. The only, ONLY excuse is he plays in front of Fabio, a young and inexperienced fullback defending against a magnificient Milos Krasic. I could go on very long slagging Nani today, but let’s stop here.
And now I have to agree, Akinfeev is worthy of our no1 shirt. It’s almost to a point that we have to sign him. He stopped Scholes shot like catching a cat..
Lastly, our shambolic defending… I really dont understand how people rate Wes Brown so highly. He is plain, nothing near world class. He was supposed to lead the backline, and not only he wasnt able to do that, he was also giving Evans a hardtime with his unpredictable moves.
Cantona 7, dont slag Wes off on one game! Remember he is just coming back from an injury lay off. I think he is a solid defender when fit. Not enough to merit a starting centre back role, but still solid.
Let’s send CSKA 40 million quid for Akinfeev, Dzagoev and Krasic.
Wes is too slow now and has slow reflexes, his passing is poor. remember the fuckup with VDS last year against bin dippers. Well it will always happen, he is a safer option at fullback. We need another strong central defender.
Nani is now constantly looking for the opportunity to score himself therefore delaying the chance for fast flowing breakouts/passes to others in better positions. Probably convinced himself that spectacular goals are the only thing that will save him.
Obertan will be a sensation.
@ScousersSuck i am not rating him after just one game.. I’ve been watching him for years. He is always prone to miss the crucial headers. His reading of the game is too slow, resulting in poor positioning. Even against Barnsley last week (did you watch that game?), Brown missed several crucial headers but we were just lucky barnsley’s strikers fluffed their chances too.. when i see the goals CSKA scored today, my thought was those are delayed goals. Well, i hope they are advanced goals too, because we are facing Chelsea this weekend.

Quality was much better as a video file – will upload it tomorrow so you can download it if you want.
cantona7, think back to the 07/08 season wes was class, remember the semi at ot, remember the cross for ron’s header, was at barnsley (and was thirsty lol) fort he played pretty well against a team playing their biggest game of their season. tonight was an experiment, we are through. i’d go for wes vida rio/evans evra, definatley rio if fit. roll on sunday.
Van Der Sar didnt show up today.. Cska had four shots on goal and three of them went in…
What was he doing in the first goal? protecting the outer side of the goal?
He was utterly useless today, like the defence infront of him.
I think we should stop this nonesense about which good keeper will be the next Man Utd one.
We are Man Utd we dont settle for good keepers
Bring on Buffon we got the cash, im sure he would like to come and spend the last five years of his carreer at the best club in the world
Tonite again show the beauty of being a United fan. Another roller coaster ride of emotions that ends well!
Defence was soft tonite but musn’t forget this is totally our second choice line-up. It truly shows the depth of our team and it bodes well if we are to have another long season.
Personally i still feel United hasn’t really get into top gear this season but then again we are traditionally slow coming into form.
All in what was importance was qualification. We got that in the bag now so bring on Chelski and the baby rocking celebration!!
Kevin — Behave yourself son
KE — Man maybe its just the fan in me tonight, but I thought Kiko was excellent! I thought he put himself about and was looking to get involved in the play waayyyyy more than Owen, who I thought was quiet.
Wasn’t Fabio’s best game, but it might have been that blonde Serbians best game, so I will give the twin a break on this one. He will improve.
I agree about Kiko, he was really good and I thought Obertan did well too..
It was a really entertaining match and im glad we made it to the final 16 before the game in Germany
now we can keep on playing the fringe players in the last two games in the group
key point, players that needed minutes got that tonight, players due a rest got that, perfect preperation for chelsea, who had all key players on the pitch, i think the travel back from russia showed against liverpool, need a big result sunday. then we go top, can’t believe people still moan!!! think its time we give nani a bit of a break as well, remember a lot of people wantin ronny out the door in in the early days the “no end product arguement” again,
come on luis i believe in you, and will every time sir alex picks you
Slightly off the topic.. Kai Rooney’s first picture … http://www.kickette.com/files/2009/11/nov2wayneandcol.jpg
well nearly….
The main difference between Nani and Obertan is the decision making. I don’t know how smart they are in real life but strangely all of the smart decisions come to the Obertan’s mind.
Maybe i am too ambitious but i wanted a 4-3 win after Valencia scored the 3rd)))
To be fair to Nani _that_ flick to Owen was perfect.
For me this game is as good as forgotten. I hate when we are losing 1-3 at OT to the team from Russia. It’s not good. You may have another opinion on the subject but this was suffering. After the first half when the scoreline was 1-2 i said here that i don’t care about the result but during the final third i was screaming in my room holding a bottle of beer.
@ King Eric
Fabio had an okay game. It’s easy to beat a player when you have the kind of skills Krasic does have. To be fair to him when evra came on Krasic and the whole russian team were struggling physically. The same can be said about Obertan.
Evra isn’t perfect at the back and i don’t know how many times he makes the right decision when he goes forward. I am not exactly his fan and badly want Fabio to challenge him for the place.
Great finish to the game we battered them the last 15 minutes. fergie will be fuming after letting in soft goals. guys i think that we should believe in nani’s ability and that he’ll come good he certainly is’nt the finished product, obertan really exposed nani’s flaws he was brilliant when coming on played simple one two’s with evra and wazza. great goal by owen. hope to see tosic hopefully in some games after the chelski game as i think he won’t feature in europe bcos he was left out of the squad but hope he plays in the two remaining group games. that krasic lad looked very good against an inexperienced fabio, kiko was great and valencia should use his left foot a bit more althoug i’ve been very much impressed with him he is mammoth facing defenders and they have to give him 2 defenders to try and stop him. akinfeev was great my only problem is his height. bring on chelski.
@cantona 7
i think wes when fit at rb he is one of the best in the world and i for one hope he dislodges glen johnson bcos he offers much more.
Evra is god.i wish we had 3 like him.can someone pls clarify,i hear Obertan is related 2 king Eric?a distant cousin so i read.if it’s true then we know how he’ll end up!!VIVA KING OBERTAN!
Got my wish for Kiko to start and think he had a good game, frustrated out on the left but still nearly scored with the header.Rooney was the difference, his passion and drive kicked the team into gear. We got away with using him for a short period. Nice for Valencia to get a bit of luck after he was so hard done by with crashing the bar against Lpool. Dont agree with earlier comment, Fletch was class. I love Obertan’s potential but I don’t think we should rush the kid. Haha no way should he start against Chelsea, it’s a Massive game, anyone who doesn’t realise that shouldn’t really be on this site….Fergie would take a draw right now. The way we are playing compared to them if we leave that shit hole with a point it will be a good result. Well fought back boys, took some guts, but we can’t concede goals like that.
@Hargreaves Curly Hair yeah i agree with that. I just dont really like Wes as CB, but i do rate him as an RB. But if Gary is ok, than i’ll go with Gary at RB. My backline for Chelsea game will be Gary-Evans-Oshea-Evra.
King Eric.
Hi mate.Fletcher wide wont be that good.because Valencia is in good form at the moment and can give cashley cole a hard time with his pace and will be useful on the break.fletch and ando can play in the middle.fletcdh can get stuck in and ando’s energy will help us drive forward unlike at Anfield where we had Carrick and Scholes.ando can also have a few pegs and make some of his cracking solo runs.
i will go for a 4-5-1 because we look poor with 4-4-2 in the big games.keep it tight and hope we can nick a goal from somewhere.if we play 4-4-2 i think chelsea open us up comfortably.Drogba is a different player this season.Although vida had him in his pocket in 2008 CL Final adn last year at OT he is in poor form at the moment and i think drogba will give him adifficult time Anelka is too quick for our centre backs.we will need Fletcher and Carrick to do a good defensive job to stop lampard and Essien bombing forward
My team would be
VDS
O Shea Evans Vidic Evra
Valencia Fletcher Anderson Carrick Giggs
Rooney
@cantona7
gary looked dead tired after the game last night.at 34 we cant expect him to maintain that level of performance on Sunday as well especially because it will be a high tempo game.
With Evans and O Shea as centrebacks we are doomed.Drogba and Anelka will slaughter them. Sir Alex said Vida will be back after last night’s game. That made me feel a lot better
AIG completely agree, if we were playing fluent football I would start Berba and Rooney up front. I think there are some different formations Fergie has in mind, AIG what did you think of Kiko last night after we spoke about him starting? I was celebrating behind the goal when that header looked goal bound!! Valencia’s confidence is up, that’s why he is shooting. I have supported Nani on here as much as I can but am starting to struggle with an arguement.
Team for Sunday.
VDS
O Shea Vidic Evans Pat
Fletcher
Anderson Carrick
Valencia Rooney
Berbatov
any thoughts?
@Stretford Ender
Kiko looked great yesterday.we all know he is a great talent and will improve a lot more.but good to see him doing well and getting chances in Europe at this young age.
Valencia is looking our best player in the last 3 weeks and ahs tos tart on Sunday.
I love Berba but the way we are playing i dont think 2 up front will be a wise decision.incase we go behind we can put owen and berba on
Encouraging performances from Macheda (as the game progressed), Obertan (good cameo) and Nev (where does he get his energy from). Fletch got a useful 90 minutes and Fabio will benefit from the game. I thought Utd looked dodgy from the off though – over-confidence maybe? – however the 2nd half was great.
I hope Fergie keeps an eye on that blonde winger (Krasic?) as he played well in both games and looks a real handful.
“His name is Obertan, he’s better than Zidane”….
My selections for Sunday :
VDS
Brown Vidic Evans Evra
Nani Fletcher Anderson Giggs
Rooney Owen
I’d prefer Nani than Valencia, Valencia is VERY predictable.. Nani is fine, he needs confidence really, i think that’s his only problem.. Owen will be a constant threat to Chelsea unlike Berba… so I strongly think that Owen needs to start, he could easily get 2 goals. With great passers like Ando and Giggsy on the pitch, it will be easier for Roon and Owen to put the ball in the net.. my opinion
Morning
aig – Yeah you are probably spot on with that line up. I just said Fletch out wide because that is how we went against Spurs and hammered them. Interesting that Fergie said the players were “fresh” for Sunday. Reckon he will have had Giggsy wrapped in cotton wool for this game for him to run the midfield again.
Corea – I thought Fabio was poor last night mate. Kept getting caught out of position many times. Still young though. Pat made a hell of a difference when he came on. You really aren’t keen on him are you?
Always be closing – Regarding the Russians in the North Stand. I sit three rows from the back of the top tier and there were russians in one of our Corporate boxes. They actually cheered when their first goal went in only to be met with abuse from United fans . Why the fuck are these corporate cunts taking “away fans” into the boxes? Idiots. The two Russian women in there were fucking stunning though!
I heard the megastore are now selling heart monitor’s, does this club put ya through the mill or wat. Regarding the match, the defence was edgy all game thought wes was poor, better at rb for me. Nani got dogs abuse again the kids diffo lacking confidence at the minute. I agree wiv king eric about fabio the blonde haired guy give em a tough time but he will get better. ps is darren fletcher the most unluckiest guy in football how many times is this going to happen to em
@aig oh thank you mate you just made me a little bit more relieved. I didnt know Vida can play against Chelsea. There is no way i would leave him out if he is available.
Could somebody please tell me exactly what Obertan did so well?
Again, I don’t understand all the plaudits he’s receiving. He didn’t change the game when he came on. He didn’t do anything spectacular.
By all means, inform me as to why you’re all praising him so much for what he did last night.
I thought Nani was solid. He didn’t make any glaring mistakes and his flick to Owen was sublime.
If anything, Fletcher should’ve been removed. I didn’t think he had much of a game.
Valencia was a monster in the first half. Kiko was great. Looked a bit tired later on but he was a constant threat and linked well with Owen .
Again though, Obertan?
Red Devilled Egg – Where to start. If you can’t see what Obertan brought to the game last night then it is beyond me mate. He brought pace, he ran at their full backs, he hogged the touchline and he played simple passes. He played a couple of outstanding one two’s with Pat and Rooney and made two superb reverse passes. He looks assured and has tricks up his sleeve. People aren’t “bigging him up” for the sake of it you know. Not bad for a fifteen minute cameo. As for Fletcher what do you mean? He had a fairly decent game last night but most importantly he regained some match fitness , essential for going to the bridge on Sunday. It is early days but my money is on Gabby beating Nani to that left wing place.
I find it funny that all of you on here can constantly slate Nani for everything he does and then turn around and beak me for questioning the contribution of Obertan et al.
Nani was good last night. I’d much rather have him in the lineup. He’s faster and is always willing to take on defenders. Obertan has yet to do anything better than Nani.
King Eric, if you can’t see what Nani brings to every game then it is beyond me.
Red Deviled Egg – I CAN see what Nani brings to the game. He is skillful and has pace and he works hard tracking back (usually for the ball he has lost) and has a cracking shot BUT he is also the most frustrating player I have had the displeasure to see. That is one of his problems, he doesn’t take defenders on enough. It is almost a cliche now but his final ball and decision making are poor 9 times out of 10. In among all this though he has flashes of brilliance a la the flick for Owen last night.
Has he made THAT much of a marked improvement in 2 and 1/2 seasons? In my opinion no.
p s – Is Nani quicker than Obertan though? I would have to say no he isn’t.
