Gerard Pique has reflected on his relationship with Sir Alex Ferguson and Manchester United in an interview with The Independent. Pique joins the long list of ex-players who has so many nice things to say about the manager.
“My style suits Barcelona’s style of play,” said Pique. “I came through the system here and the way I play now is the way I was taught to play when I was a kid. But my relationship with Ferguson was always very good. He knew I had the quality to be a good central defender I will always be grateful to him for the way he treated me.”
A year after winning the European Cup with United in 2008, Pique lined up against United in the European Cup final with Barcelona, and went on to win.
“To find myself up against the players who just a year earlier I had shared a piece of history with was very emotional and to see Ferguson again was special. We spoke after the game and he said that we had been worthy winners and that meant a lot to me.”

Man Utd News 24/7

Aren’t they all?
Second!
Ibrahimovic will need some reassurance when he sees that photo.
It’s ok now we have Smalling who if he carries on at this rate will be equally as outstanding as Pique if he isn’ already
Just don’t have a Jonny Evans moment and relapse for whatever x file reason…
i find SAF is always goood in spotting defenders. evra, vidic, smalling, pique, neville or a lot of others to name. he’s superior in converting a nobody-defender to the great one.
ibrahimovic???
TSKKK….Costas joining the 2nd debate………Me i always cum second….:p

Morning mate, been a while
AND he’s got Shakira!!! What a man
It always amuses me that if you ever believed the press then you’d be told that Sir Alex is some kind of ogre, who rules the club with a rod of iron, but the majority of players whom he’s worked with tell a different story.
Evans had a fairly good senior, debut season and then suffered a drop of form in the more recent campaign. Not because he’s “not United standard” or whatever, its simply because he’s young and I think young players sometimes have a tendency to fall into that pit where its more the question of confidence rather than ability.
So its good to see Smalling adapting so quick to the game and making us Reds feeling a little relieved at the prolonged absence or Rio. But I wouldn’t be too quick with the grand expectations, as I’ve seen what happened to Evans.
Hence if Smalling were to have a dip in form (which fuck me I wouldn’t wish to) will the same people who are now calling for Evans head (and glorifying Smalling in contrast) do the same to him ?

Exactly; and, he’s always willing to acknowledge when his team has been “fairly beaten” – as Gerard PIque and others have said – but he is such a competitor that he just goes ballistic when the playing field isn’t level. And, as you wrote, the press and the ABUx then come out in force to depict him as a “bad sportsman”. (James Lawton had a good set of comments about this double standard in last night’s online Independent.)
@RedMegleeker
Ahhhhh, I see…………………….how queer lol. cheers mate
StretfordendOle – That’s why we don’t believe the press mate.
He is great player, and we did a good thing when we sold him. He, just like Ronaldo wanted to play somewhere else (read: Barca), but we should sell him for more money.
