Powell: I Got Nutmegged On My First Day!

Nick Powell has been training with the first team squad after joining us from Crewe and is in the manager’s plans for the pre-season tour.

He is enjoying life at United so far… despite getting nutmegged on his first day.

“I went straight into working with the first team on some possession work – although I got nutmegged on my first day,” said Powell. “It was much more relaxed at Crewe and you felt in a comfort zone there, but now I’m here I know I have to work hard every day and be at my best. Having that challenge will only help me progress.”

Bit more relaxed at Crewe?! Says it all really! Time to step up Nickster. You are playing with the big boys now.

Hope he develops to rival another Nick in our affections. Big shoes to fill.

    Get in Nick Powell!

  8. CedarsDevil says:

I am glad he got got nutmegged instead of getting a Scholes ‘special’ !!!

    Fletch

Ha ha ha probably right mate

  9. Clint-Iamyourpapii says:

I don’t get the argument that Giggs should not be counted as a centre midfielder…okay so he’s not a natural but thats his position !

Like Macheda who is not striker but is still positionally a striker

You have to remember Giggs was great till the whole Bilbao battering act…so don’t jump on his back. After the olympic games Giggsy will return to old form.

Its funny, exactly 18 months ago Scholes was under heavy criticism to retire because he’s a “liability”, he can’t last 90 minutes, because he “can’t tackle”, because he cost us against City in the FA cup semi final.
Giggs seems to have attracted similar criticism of his ability but I think it’s unfair, Giggs plays an incredible amount of games at his age and half a bad season gets him the boot in the eyes of some. Watch Giggsy return fired up !

When Scholes retired and came back we appreciated him more….Giggs is under-valued at this moment, he’s still got loads to offer.

There is a stupid argument, why are we the only club that plays 37 + 38 year olds?
Its because they are fucking awesome and do more than the likes of De Jong, Sandro, Adam, Diaby,Ramsey, Barry,Huddestone etc.

What we should complain about is the lack of signings in the middle since 2007, not about who we have !

  10. schmadmir says:

    I’m guessing Scholes.

  11. dannysoya LOVES SIAN MASSEY says:

Oh dear Lord whvwrueves into? He got nutmegged? Christ. We’ll be lucky to fnish fifth this year. :D

  12. WillieRedNut says:

If O’Shea was still a United player, I’d have said him.

  13. dannysoya LOVES SIAN MASSEY says:

Oh dear Lord what have we gotten ourselves into? He got nutmegged? Christ. We’ll be lucky to fnish fifth this year. :D

I have always had a strong liking for Cheltenham Town following a brief spell living down there for work. I managed to get to both play off semi finals against Torquay and the Final at Wembley,

The goal he scored at Wembley was a fabulous piece of skill (Scored right in front of me), but what impressed me more was his movement and especially the willingness to have the ball in difficult areas. I’m not sure how many of you guys ever see league 2, but Crewe play the ball on the floor against everyone, in fact, somehting like 8 of the starting 11 at Wembley came through their famous youth set up. It really was a pleasure to watch.

This kid was at the centre of it, I said on here when it was announced that he wouldn’t be going out on loan, with better players he will be very exciting. Also seems like Gradi has ensured his head hasn’t got too big.

    Really excited about this prospect.

u no listenin to fergie tells me that we may not be signing another central midfielder especially as he said young nick is gone pay there and be involved with the 1st team straight away and the fact that he will wait on fletch(correct choice)…would it be a bad thing not to get another central midfielder ?…i don’t really think so as if ando and clev are fit the footy they played at the start of the season was smashing…ppl say ando is shit…he fuckin aint he’s just always injured..hopefully we get fletch back then with scholes also back i think we would be just find….u can tell he wants to sign 2 more but old fergie is probably up to his old tricks trying to scare whoever it is into selling especially if they are already in negotiations..from what I’m led to believe baines will sign, i mentioned last week on a thread that a good friend of mine, his friend is friends with baines(i no friends friends etc)but i could vouch on that and apparently he will sign and it would make sense with fergie lettin fabio go not leaving any cover there…..i also heard that we are in negotiations with modric but so are ac milan and another unnamed club(not madrid or chelsea)…the decision will be down to modric and that spurs will get moutinho with the cash….i heard it from my buddy who’s a spurs fan….dont no were he heard it or if its just gossip among the spurs fans but after listining to AVB about being in talks with several clubs then it could be true!!who knows…and as for berba…all i can say is why let him go if we aint gone replace him as its not like he’s a poor player so i hope he stays if theres no replacement

    Cedars
Me too. The Lad would be in plaster now, although a bit of the Scholes treatment would do him good. Prepare him for the likes of De Jong. :D

  17. CedarsDevil says:

    Jimmy James

Yeah De Jong and Kevin Davies……….Oh wait the latter has been relegated, fucking detest the cunt

  18. james21 says:

    Cedarwood
Yeh I thought of Kevin Davis but then remembered Bolton got relegated. :)

  19. Rd54 says:

    It must be Paul

  20. Marq says:

Sir Alex says 1 or 2 more signings. Probably a left back and a central midfielder?

What are the odds being Baines & Dembele?

  21. Zizou says:

finish 5th? you must be joking.

i think we will prove more than a challange for city.

with vida and cleverly back we have a stronger back line and midfield. which we need as fergi plans to play more attacking football. kagawa does look better than 1/2 our current central midfield options available(youtube) i hope welback can be a lil less wastefull in terms of chances as he’s a year older and not have the second season curse or euro hangover. Rooney looks rather lethargic in recent years. i would rather be realistic and ask fergi not to sign any new player apart from either a good DM but i think carrick and scholesy have it covered this year. Just a striker thats better than 2/3s of others in his position. welback is fast growing up but i still think he needs a season or two, chicha is a lil over hyped, considering he can only score and not play football.

also i aint a poser, i wouldnt want us to change our style of play for anything, nor would i emphasize on buying one of the best players. we are good enough. i just hope we do enough on the field and not on paper.

    In SAF i trust.

    Bebe means business already…

  23. TheCANTONA says:

Cant wait to see the boy in action. Come on Powell! Come on United!

  24. slim says:

most daft idea I’ve heard on here, not getting a midfielder. absolute madness and the gaffer knows it. there is one more signing at least in the works

  25. King Eric says:

Clint – Spot on as usual pal at 15.34

  26. RedDevil4Lyfe says:

I bet he got nutmegged by Fergie – I hear fergie is a fantastic nutmegger

    or maybe Rafael

  27. RedDevil4Lyfe says:

on a different note – who will be the next player to come in – im hoping its moura – i never heard of him be4 til now but from watching youtube clips seems like he has mad skills (yes i know the clip only shows his best stuff and he may ave a lot of fails) but still at 19 that much trickery – watching him play is like watching Fifa Street.. ridiculous

  28. cHodAX says:

The gaffer is being cagey but they are after Lucas Moura, the problem is going to be price and beating off the competition for him. It’s alot of money for someone so young and unproven in Europe, we could get Wesley Sneijder for the same kind of money and get results from day 1.

It’s a tricky time for United, we cannot afford to waste a penny this year.

  29. MUFCJord says:

I have a good feeling about this lad. Extremely bright future ahead!

  30. Pichilote says:

I think we should really be bringing up one our own marbles from the reserves rather than give Nick here a chance his first year. Otherwise we might lose them. Petrucci I think was his name, impressed this year. He is older than Nick too, with more experience I would think. He already knows our style, so why not give him a try!

  31. MarkoWire says:

Does anyone know who nutmegged him??????????????????????

  32. aaronaldo says:

Great if Berbatov stays, he should be converted into midfield and be our Pirlo. He has it all.

  33. gazzer says:

Just saw the video of Lucas Moura. He’s ridiculously good
