Patrice Evra reckons that Manchester United will play Real Madrid at some point this year in the Champions League, even as early as the next round. With the final at the Bernabéu this season, I know I’m not alone in hoping we play and beat Real Madrid on their own turf.
“I know we will play Real Madrid,” said Evra. “I can’t explain it. It is just a feeling. But I think we will play them, maybe even in the next round.”
This would mean Evra marking former team-mate Cristiano Ronaldo.
“I once played against him in an Under-21 international but remember, I used to face him every day in training,” Evra continued. “He knows it could be very difficult for him. Ronaldo was a close friend and I was sad to see him leave. But you need to accept it. And the thing about Manchester United is, no one player is the star – the club is the star. Sir Alex Ferguson tries to maintain that every year.”

well said.i think most of us feel we will play Real at some point this year.Will be a cracking game.Real are very strong attackwise but we all know that defensively they are still poor and can be beaten both home and away.Similarly with the players they have got they can beat anyone,infact can tear anyone to shreds if all those players get going.
Evra will have a difficult time because ronny is in great form at present and is getting back to his best.But i think Evra is more than capable of handling Ronny and keeping him quiet
Ron might mostly start from the left if Wes is not playing. the best thing is to man mark him with Fletch or Hargo.
I guess we all have the same feeling. I do . And beating them would be great . Would have been greater if heinze had stayed there . And greater if we played them in the next round which will make all the money they paid worthless and they still can”t reach the quarter finals .
Ronaldo will probably play as an out and out forward anyway but I agree with Evra I think we’ll play them this year and I hope we batter em.
Gotta say I agree with Pat, seems almost destiny, no? When I was watching the draw I half expected us to be put in the same group. But yea, save it for the final.

Playing Ron should not be a problem (apart from the free kicks) – Just get a midfielder to help out as soon as he gets the ball – he doesn’t go past anyone anymore. He’d be dangerous on the break but we are not stupid enough to go all out attack anyway

even rio was saying we’ll play real sometime in the CL, perhaps all the utd players discuss how they are going to mark ron if this happens. it’s strange how everyone here is talking about how he will be marked, or to man mark him with hargofletch, when not long ago he was playing for us. how time changes.
I hope we do play them and beat them on their own ground. hopefully ron will also have an off game in the match in favour of us utd fans.
“He knows it could be very difficult for him.” I love how evra said this instead of saying “He knows it will be very difficult for me” as in to mark him. it is not arrogance, but just selfbelief, which is what i admire in him.
We have the best chance to beat them I have a true gut feeling that we will get them , hopefully in the final. That would be sweet winning it on their home ground. And because were so used to Ronnies play it shouldnt be a problem, like someone else said only at free kicks.
But by then we would have a full strengthed squad hopefully hargo will be fit & on form..
